5-0 out of 5 stars SOMETHING TO OFFEND EVERYONE!
I'm not exactly sure what to make out of Shane Ryan Staley's "Corrosion" but all I know is that I liked it.I wouldn't seek to diminish it by referring to it as a horror anthology. These musings are the product of a rather depraved, and thoroughly non-politically correct mind.I love him!Staley saves no one from his cynical, biting skewerings and there's something to offend just about everyone.I Really Love Him!Many of the stories are semi-autobiographical, and then twisted beyond belief.

In "Ground Hog's Day" Shane goes after this utterly stupid and pointless tradition with an anonymous Midwestern town and a groundhog named Rat-F***!But the real stars here are the rednecks.Stupidity knows no bounds.

Muslims and Christians both get a back-handed slap in "A Conversation with the Prophet Muhammad".Over a meal at a fast food restaurant, Muhammad sets the world straight on a variety of subjects including those rioting over the "blasphemous" cartoons in a recent European newspaper."Camels have higher IQ's" he says.He also shares his feelings on Osama Bin Laden which are not printable, and the whole legend about virgins in the afterlife for terrorists.

In "A Letter to Al Gore" regarding Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth, Staley makes it clear that we Midwesterners would love for it to be a little warmer in the winter and if that means a flooded Canada then he's willing to live with that.Hilarious!

God writes his own "Blog" in this story and if you're name is pat Robertson or Tom Cruise, or if you follow any organized religion, then look the hell out!

Staley also shares with readers "Why Winter Sucks" and why people with annoying cell phone ring tones should be put to death.

Purposefully over the top, Corrosion is a blast.Never has offensive been so darkly humorous.Check it out!

Excerpt: Abbreviator, plural Abbreviators in English or Abbreviatores in Latin, also called Breviators, were a body of writers in the papal chancery, whose business was to sketch out and prepare in due form the pope's bulls, briefs and consistorial decrees before these are written out in extenso by the scriptores. They are first mentioned in the papal bulls Extravagantes of Pope John XXII and of Pope Benedict XII. After the protonotaries left the sketching of the minutes to the abbreviators, those de Parco majori, who ranked as prelates, were the most important officers of the apostolic chancery. By the time of Pope Martin V their signature was made essential to the validity of the acts of the chancery; and they obtained in course of time many important privileges. Abbreviators are those who make an abridgment or abstract of a long writing or discourse by contracting the parts, i.e. the words and sentences; an abbreviated form of writing common among the Romans. Abbreviations were of two kinds: the use of a single letter for a single word, the use of a sign, note, or mark for a word or phrase. The Emperor Justinian forbade the use of abbreviations in the compilation of the "Digest" and afterwards extended his prohibition to all other writings. This prohibition was not universally obeyed. The abbreviators found it to their own convenience and interest to use the abbreviated form, and especially was this the case at Rome. The early Christians practised the abbreviated mode, no doubt as an easy and safe way of communicating with one another and safeguarding their secrets from enemies and false brethren. Product Description
... Read more

Product Description
American Ballet Theatre is proud to announce the publication of The Healthy Dancer - ABT Guidelines for Dancer Health. This comprehensive, easy-to-follow manual provides sound advice for dance teachers, parents and students, addressing the needs of young dancers and athletes, both pre-professional and recreational. Compiled by medical professionals from the fields of sports medicine, nutrition, physical therapy and orthopedics, the focus is on ballet training, but the advice is applicable to all types of dance and sports.American Ballet Theatre assembled a Medical Advisory Board to assist with writing health guidelines for the ABT National Training Curriculum. After receiving great feedback from teachers and dance advocates about the larger importance of this portion of the curriculum, it became apparent that wider distribution and publication was important for the health of young dancers across the United States and beyond.Part 1 presents an overview of anatomy and kinesiology with a particular focus on injury prevention and recovery. There are clear diagrams that relate anatomy to dance and illustrate common dance injuries. Turnout and introduction of pointe work is also discussed.Part 2 offers advice specific to the development and health of the young dancer, addressing phases of development, the role of the teacher and parent for each stage, psychological and emotional factors of dance training, nutrition and recommendations for healthy strength and flexibility training.Part 3 focuses on risk management and recommendations for teachers to create a healthy training environment, outlining recommended safety policies and practices for dance studios.Order your copy today! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not What We Were Expecting
I purchased this for my daughter on a recommendation I had read another a ballet board online. We had thought it would be a book with useful information for the dancer, but I think it is more appropriate for a ballet instructor.

The book is only 119 pages and divided up into three parts: Anatomy and Injuries, Development and Health, and Risk-Management, Medical, and Facility Guidelines. The first section in Part One contains a section on anatomy which includes pictures of the various parts of the body used in ballet. Each picture is accompanied by a small blurb about the function and description. This section would be advantageous to the person wanting to go into sports medicine, but not especially helpful to the younger ballet dancer. The next two chapters are about dance-related injuries, common medical problems, and injury prevention. Everything that could possibly happen to a dancer is listed from dislocations to broken teeth. Most of the information is common sense and written more towards the ballet instructor in terms of what to look for as far as possible problems with their students. The chapter finished up with a discussion of what proper turnout is, assessing turnout, introducing pointe work, screening for professionals, and a glossary of dance medical terms. This is all useful information, but is geared more towards the dancer instructor.

The second part in this book covers motor control and learning and discusses the phases of development from pre-school to maturing adolscence. As it is written, the information is helpful for the dance instructor. Chapter ten covers the psychological and emotional factors of dance training and is one the main reasons for our purchase of this book. Unfortunately, each subject has such a short description that is mainly common sense, that we didn't really gain any useful information. Most of what is mentioned could be found easily on the Internet. Also in this part are chapters on creating a healthy training environment (for the instructor/studio owner) and nutrition. The nutritional section is so basic, for example explaining what a vitamin is, that you don't come away with any new knowledge.

The final part in this book covers risk-management, medical and facility guidelines. Subjects covered in this section range from how to do background checks to how to clean the facilities.

Overall, the book does contain some beautiful photos, but I feel it is geared more towards someone wanting to open their own studio and not a dancer which we were lead to believe with the other review. ... Read more

I already had a copy of this book given to me by my beloved cousin, L. D. Cox, of Comanche, Texas, a survivor of the USS Indianapolis. The copy I ordered from Amazon was placed in the McClung Historical Collection of the Knox County Public Library in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The book is a factual, living account of the survivors, whose voices need to be heard by all Americans. They are an important part of "The Greatest Generation:!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Indianapolis Account Yet
As a Survivors Son and owner of all the Indianapolis Books that I know of may I recommend this book to any one with an interest in the lives and deaths of these brave men. This book is unique among the others because it consists entirely of the accounts of the survivors. Many eyes saw and experienced the same event and related it each in their own words. So very touching and moving it is indeed a fitting memorial to those who served on this great ship as well as those who took part in the rescue. My heart felt thanks to everyone who had part in creation of this account. ...
