Product Description
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.
Western literary study flows out of eighteenth-century works by Alexander Pope, Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Frances Burney, Denis Diderot, Johann Gottfried Herder, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and others. Experience the birth of the modern novel, or compare the development of language using dictionaries and grammar discourses.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book with history & a listing of clubs in the USA
Before I review the book, I must say a few words about the author. I first met Eileen last fall at my favorite club, Nashville's in Timonium, Maryland after corresponding with her via CompuServe. In addition to being a writer, she is an excellent dancer! Before we parted company, she signed a copy of her book for me, which I read cover to cover. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! It covers everything a person would need to know before venturing out on the dance floor. She talks about the history of honky- tonks, how to dress, and how to act on and off the dance floor. Then she gives a detailed listing by state of clubs that have been around the longest, and finally a listing of newer clubs throughout the U.S. I can't wait to read Eileen's next book and dance the El Paso with her again on the dance floor! Peace!

5-0 out of 5 stars A very informative book for country dance fans
The book tells novices how to dress, act and proper ways of getting around the honky tonk scene. If you knew nothing about honky tonks and dancing this book tells you the ins and outs of the club life. She speaks from personal experience which adds to the text and makes you feel ready to face the action.I recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about the dance scene. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Historical dancing
If you are interested in 17th century english dancing or historical dancing this book is a must. It introduces you to all Playford dances which are from 17th century. It deosn't only give you instruction for dancing, but it also gives you notes to played with violin.

Well Playford has it's downsides also. He is very precise to not say which foot starts or which hand. Directions are sometimes left to the readers imagination to fill in. But you have to think it this way. This is only dancebook from that time. If you don't get this book there is no else. So that way this book is must. And that's why I give it two thumbs up. ...
