4-0 out of 5 stars fast2fuse projects only
I admire the creative reviewers who recommended using the handy templates this book contains with other materials, such as construction paper BUT I would be a lot happier with this book if it offered a few no-sew projects that don't require fast2fuse.I work with a very young age group, and there's no way my group of three-year-olds are going to be able to iron their little projects.I wouldn't have purchased this book if I'd realized every project called for fast2fuse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for all ages!
This book has fantastic crafts that my kids love! It is a great way to get the kids interested in fabrics and sewing before they are old enough to use the sewing machine. It's also fun for seasoned veterans to try their hand at using fabrics in ways I hadn't imagined. This book is a great way to foster creativity in everyone from kids to adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for last minute homemade gifts and rainy day projects.
My kids love to browse through this book when they have a birthday party and want to bring something special as a gift--not the same old stuff from Target. My usually rambunctious kids actually settle down when we pick a couple projects from this book. They love to see the progress the others are making and work extra hard to make their own look practically perfect.Lots of fun and easy to follow the directions. Not a big deal to get the supplies for projects either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Ideas
I am an elementary art teacher and I find this book full of great ideas for my students. While the fabric projects are good for at home crafts, I use the patterns and templates with paper instead and the kids love to make things 3-D. For the school Carnival we were able to make some cool new games that are fairly indestructible and very colorful! Lots of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars A little book with lots of great projects
Easy to follow instructions and excellent illustrations make this fabric craft book a real gem. Fabric and fusible interfacing are at the center of the book. However, the kids can use construction paper and glueand then you can get them off and running on their own. The book also includes the template patterns for the projects. How much easier can they make it!This book shares lots of creative ideas and I would recommend it to any crafting family. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The idea is sound
I am an elementary art teacher and I picked up this book at the library in the hopes to find some good projects for my classes. While the ideas are sound and creative the explanations on how to carry them out are not.The instructions are somewhat vague and the lists of supplies are seriously out of the budget for most classes. What teacher can afford to provide rawhide for 25 students so they can make drums? As for sewing projects...my administrator has fits at the very thought of putting needles in the hands of our students. My main problem is with those projects I can find work arounds for supplies but when it comes down to instructions I have found them to be vague and poorly written. There are parts where you read and say but if I do that won't this pouch be sealed up?How am I supposed to open it back up and still maintain the weave? The diagrams are also vague and do not show enough to use them effectively. It's all well and good to say use a whipstitch here but then not to explain a whipstitch in that lesson makes it ineffective. Instead I have to flip back to the glossary four or five times a lesson. This book may be useful for a parent wanting to work with their child but I do not recommend it to teachers.

Product Description

With just a few basic tools, scrap wood, and safety rules outlined in this fun introduction to woodcarving, children will soon be on their way to creating personal keepsakes and hand-carved gifts for their family. Offering an overview of wood and its varieties, this book examines the anatomy of a tree, how to choose the best wood for carving, defects commonly found in wood, and where to find "free" wood in nature. Stressing safety above all else, the guide teaches junior carvers how to correctly size protective gloves, make their own thumb guards, properly handle tools, and how to use wood finishing supplies. Woodcarving tools are covered in depth, with each tool's use explained, illustrated and accompanied by step-by-step, confidence-building exercises. Working from the most basic tools, such as a pocket knife, toward the more advanced, such as a chisel and gouge, carving techniques are taught gradually. Young carvers are taught how to properly open and close a pocket knife, how to make basic woodcarving cuts like the push, pull, stop, incised, score, and chip cut. Kids are then taught when they need to use other tools, like a coping saw for curved cuts, or a clamp for attaching wood to a table. Once youngsters have mastered the tool exercises, they can confidently put their new skills to practice with seven projects for carving a fun wooden whistle, a musical frog, a relief-carved eagle head, a snowman ornament, and more.

There’s a good reason Dilbert and The Office are so popular: today’s most popular sport is mocking life on the job. After all, the average work environment is filled with undesirable people, unpleasant situations, and hours of clock-watching boredom. So what’s a person to do but get this subversively funny gift book? It’s a sanity-salvaging guide for someone on the fast track to burnout. Waiting for the copy machine?
Stuck in a claustrophobic cubicle? Then pillage the supply closet, and make the most of a bad situation by creating projects that range from the ridiculous to the sublime. Relieve cubicle hell with Post-it® note mosaics or a privacy “curtain” made from key rings and ID tags. Deem yourself Employee of the Month, and craft a glittering crown embellished with colored paper clips and highlighters. Help pass the afternoon with a game of “Boss Phrase Bingo.” From beauty pickups (a correction fluid manicure) to novel ways to get even with an evil co-worker, these fabulous activities could be considered brilliant exercises of whimsy…or grounds for termination. 4-0 out of 5 stars Fun at the Office

Extreme Office Crafts: Creative & Devious Ways to Waste Office Supplies & Company Time by Jimmy Knight was a very popular book at work. Everyone that looked though it laughed. And I can't help but look at normal office supplies in a totally different way. If you read this book, I can almost guarantee a run on the supply cabinet.

This book has some of the best uses of office supplies I have ever seen. Are you stuck in a basement, with no windows (like I am)? Make your own "window" with some wooden rulers, a photo of an outdoor scene, a little glue, and a few other supplies. Need some protection while dealing with the office refrigerator? Make your own HazMat suit with bubble wrap. In a pinch for a Halloween costume for the office party? This book has several ideas. All by using common office supplies. But the one that still has me laughing are the Memo Face Clamps. A couple of photos of your boss or co-workers, some binder clips, and glue and you have "a creative way to interact with your fellow employees without actually having to talk to them." Priceless.

This is an excellent book for anyone that works in Cubeville. There are many ideas that won't get you fired, but will provide you with laughs and conversational pieces. But if you do get fired, they have the solution - a false bottom box covered with your poor performance appraisals and negative memos. Perfect for getting more office supplies, and small electronic devices, out of the building.

Every project shows you the finished product and easy step-by-step instructions. And there are hilarious comments peppered throughout. It is a fun, entertaining read that will provide you with hours of crafting at work.

I never knew that the OfficeMax or Staples catalog was filled with such great items. You'll be ordering up a pallet of colored Post-it® Notes in no time.

Just don't let the boss catch you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly funny!
I'm lucky to no longer be in America's corporate culture, but I'd say this book makes a GREAT gift for anyone who is!While I hope your job is meaningful and stimulating for you, the crafty ideas make use of all sorts of office supplies - including the spare time of any cubicle dweller. My favorite:The Computer Cafe:Use an old computer tower, empty it of all its outdated components, fill it with your favorite sugar fixes and stick it under your desk for a well-concealed stash! The book is probably not meant as a craft guide but a rather clever ray of sunshine in your artificially lit day!Enjoy!:-) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars EXCEPTIONAL BOOK!!
I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO MAKES CANDLES. THIS BOOK IS VERY DETAILED AND INFORMATIVE.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY USEFULL SIMPLE BOOK
What I really liked in this book is the beginning, she talks with details the general equipment and supplies, she presented each one with pictures, very nice. The projects are simple but very detailed with pictures step by step, there are nice ideias of different candles, the project Marble Slab is wonderfull, the candles looks like marble, it is amazing the effect she created. In general the book is simple and usefull and perfect to add in your library for more ideas of how making candles. thanks Chery, good job.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too simple for me
1. This small book does not go into detail about anything. I does not describe the candle making process very well.

2. Its what, 16 recipes? Basic high school arts and crafts stuff.. not for someone interested in new ( unique ) techniques.

3. You can google this information in 10 minutes. Don't waste your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas
I haven't made any candles yet, but this book has beautiful ideas and the instructions are very understandable.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe that no one has written a review for this!!
This book starts out with defining different materials, waxes, molds,coloring/scenting,and wicks. It tells you how to prepare the wick;how to level the bottom of the candle;and how to use containers found in all homes. It has sections on beeswax candles, making tapers at home, making your own molds, painting and applique candles, layering candles, making floating flowers by hand, imbedding, gel candles(small section),making stacked candles, hurricane(shell)candles, stencilling, wrapped candle ideas, stick candles for the yard, marbling candles, and frosted candles. This book includes templates, variations and tips in the sections and all pages are either full colored pictures or have multiple pictures. Many of the crafts are even explained with pictures to show the novice how to make candles.I have bought around 30 books on candles and I still like this very much.It shows you how to make candles from nothing but the wax and your hands.I can't say enough about this book... ... Amazon.com Review
Book Description
For nearly 20 years, home crafters have turned to the pages of Martha Stewart Living for all kinds of crafts projects, each presented in the magazine’s inimitable style. Now, the best of those projects, including step-by-step instructions and full-color photographs, have been collected into a single encyclopedia.

Organized by topic from A to Z, Martha Stewart’s Encyclopedia of Crafts contains complete instructions and brief histories for more than 30 techniques, detailed descriptions of the necessary tools and materials, and easy-to-copy templates. Martha and her team of crafts editors guide readers through each subject, from botanical pressing and decoupage to rubber stamping and wreaths, with characteristic clarity and unparalleled attention to detail.

Crafters of all skill and experience levels will appreciate the many variations presented for each technique. For example, candlemaking presents a comprehensive array of poured, rolled, and cutout candles, including instructions for making your own one-of-a-kind rubber candle molds, floating candles, sand candles, and more. Each craft in the book takes on charming new dimensions with innovations that could come only from the team behind Martha Stewart Living.

In addition, each entry in Martha Stewart’s Encyclopedia of Crafts is chock-full of tips and advice. Handy glossaries in the entries--such as a comprehensive gem glossary, a glitter glossary, and a color glossary for making tinted wax--are valuable references that crafters will refer to again and again. What’s more, the Tools and Materials section outlines the best essential supplies that every crafter needs to have on hand, and the Sources pages clue readers in to the vendors and suppliers that the magazine’s crafts editors rely on most.

Filled with solid technical know-how, and presented with gorgeous color photographs, this handy guide can be read page by page and kept as a lasting reference by crafters and artisans alike.

Sample Project from Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Crafts: Bottle Cap Frames

Metal bottle caps can frame small black-and-white pictures for novel thumbtacks or magnets. Clear resin is poured into the caps to seal the photos and give them an appealing glossy finish. Twist-off caps are better than conventional ones because they don’t bend when they’re removed. For appropriately small images, try cutting details from large photos. Or, if your software has a contact sheet mode, use it to reduce pictures drastically.

Project Supplies

  • ink jet paper

  • 1-inch (2.5cm) circular craft punch

  • white craft glue

  • metal twist-off bottle caps

  • clear casting resin

  • bonding cement

  • small magnets or thumbtacks

How-To

Using the craft punch, cut out pictures. Using white craft glue, attach 1 picture to the inside of each bottle cap. Let it dry. Cover a work surface to protect it from spills, and lay caps on top of it. Following manufacturer’s instructions for clear casting resin, fill each bottle cap to the rim. Let them dry overnight. Using bonding cement, attach magnets or thumbtacks to the backs of the bottle caps. Let them dry overnight before using.

It's fun, it's retro—and it's back in style. Take a fond look back at the kitschy crafts of the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, from crocheted doilies to shell-art nightlights. All these nostalgic creations appear in appropriately fashioned period settings that will captivate browsers, and come with instructions for those who just can’t resist creating their own string-art pictures, pink flamingo items, far-out tie dyes, kooky candles, macramé plant hangers, and the one-time must-have on every coffee table: a resin-cast grape cluster. And, of course, who can live without the hottest toy of all? The Sock Monkey Doll. Everyone will have a blast poring over these—even those who have never made a craft in their lives.

3-0 out of 5 stars YEP, they were Kitschy...
So, the picture on the front, the reason I bought the book, those instructions, not in there.
Great if you are interested in what kitsch used to look like, not if you want to know how they used to do it.
Great pictures.
If anyone know what the base of the craft on the front cover is made of, PLEASE tell me.

1-0 out of 5 stars The crafts you never missed.
So you know all of those patterns and projects that everyone has been into lately? The Vintage Retro cute stuff? These are all of the OTHER ones. The vintage retro ones that were so ugly during their day that people have been trying to forget them for decades...
Except the sock monkey. There is a sock monkey, and he is great, as all sock monkeys are.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hey That's My House!
I was at a Half Price book store in Dallas just minding my own business thumbing through old magazines and craft books when I picked up Kitschy Crafts: A Celebration of Overlooked 20th-Century Crafts by by Jo Packham and Matt Shay. My first thoughts were wow what cute old graphics and secondly this is a lot like Leah Kramer's The Craftster Guide to Nifty, Thrifty, and Kitschy Crafts: Fifty Fabulous Projects from the Fifties and Sixties. Both have adorable re-do's of old vintage craft projects like toilet paper covers and macaroni art. So anyway there I am flipping through and all the sudden I land on page 95 where a doll in a crocheted dress and a pink plastic elephant were staring back at me and I did a double take. I went though a range of emotions quickly from: "wow they're cute" to "hmmm that looks vaguely familiar" to looking on the next page and shouting out loud in the book store "Hey that's my bathroom". I mean you can even see my tooth paste, prescription bottles, framed pictures of husbands and more. Most importantly you can see the amazing custom mosaic my mother Fredda Perkins author of Wall Pockets of the Past: Collector's Identification and Value Guide did for my bathroom.

Further flipage resulted in discovering my living room on page 78-79.My living room shares the page with a fun project on making a paper collage. The project actually looks really easy and fun.I am partial to the home décor pictures inside but the projects are the main focus and they are really cute.I have to say I am partial to the safety pin necklace.Maybe I will make something with safety pins for The Naughty Secretary Club: The Working Girl's Guide to Handmade Jewelry part 2!

4-0 out of 5 stars Chris Craft Essentials
This is a very good book for someone who wants to look up information on most any Chris Craft boat.It is unfortunate that the pictures are black and white and not in color. It is also somewhat disjointed in the layout. It goes from years to types of boats to years and I feel would be better representated if it went by year.
Thanks,

"Chris Craft, The Essential Guide" consists of single page descriptions of each Chris Craft model from the 1920s through the 1970s.Each page features a photo plus basic specifications (Hull Numbers, Number Built, Length, Beam, Draft, Height, Weight, Fuel Capacity, Fresh Water Capacity, Hull Material, Colors, Upholstery, & Engines Offered).I wish that there had been some further elaboration on some of these parameters. For instance, is the height measured from the waterline to the top of the light mast, which is the relevant parameter for navigating under a bridge, or is the height measured from the keel to the top of the deck house, which is the relevant parameter for trailering the boat on a highway where the disassembly of a light mast might be acceptable.Comparing the dimensions to the information on old sales brochures, my impression is that the height is not measured in a consistent manner. One other gripe is that the 315 Commander is not included. The first boat of that model may have appeared shortly after the 1977 cutoff date for the models that are described. These gripes are minor.I have found the book very useful and I consult it frequently.

2-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not what I was looking for.
This appears to be a comprehensive guide to all boats manufactured by Chris Craft, however it did not provide the history or details that I was looking for.Simply provides a one page sheet for each craft detailing basic specifications.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic information

This book contains information on every Chris Craft built. whith a picture and model info. It does not provide in depth information just a page of specs on each boat. Overall a great reference guide to early Chris Crafts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, a true "guide" book
Very few missing pictures, most are original promotion pics, some artists renderings.Very complete data, when available.A must have for buying from classifieds or ID your finds in the boatyards.I found my 1965 Challenger 36' in it.It is very popular at the marina too, every one wants to look at it to find their first Chris Craft.Does not cover the modern line of vessels. ... Product Description
Kids love to make their own toys and games, gifts and ornaments. It encourages them to give full rein to their creative flair - and if they can use component parts that are adapted or recycled, so much the better for them and the planet! None of the projects in this book use any special materials. Instead, they all rely on ingredients that you are likely to have in the cupboard or items that can be found around the house or garden, or out on walks in the park or at the beach. Recipes for salt dough are included, as well as methods for easy felting, together with step-by-step instructions on what to make, such as pretend sweets, boxes and masks. Old gift wrapping paper, old clothes and odd buttons and beads can all be used in an imaginative way, as can pine cones, tree bark, shells and other fascinating natural bits and bobs. Gifts for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends are here, together with games and toys that can be made and then played with again and again. From painted stones and a friendship bracelet to a simple dolls' house and a driftwood boat, children will love the projects in this engaging book. In fact, kids need never be bored again. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
I was disappointed with this book. There are not many craft ideas that I would attempt with children, especially a group of children.I originally bought this thinking I could use some ideas for our Bible School classes or for one of our Girl Scout outings.I was hoping for some ideas that were a little easier. Most of these you have to stay with your child and do it with them.Today parents have to do so much homework with children that it would be nice if they could have a few craft projects that they could do by themselves or with a friend after school for pleasure. There are some ideas here but I am going to use only 4 of the projects. If you like to sit and do this with your child and in most cases, do this for your child because it is too hard, then buy the book.I found much more fun ideas by searching Google for popsicle crafts.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great children's author and teacher....
Kelly loves children, Kelly knows writing, and it shows in her latest work. The craft ideas featured here are creative, and the wording of the book will appeal to younger children. It'd be a good idea to jump on this book now, as I genuinely believe Kelly Milner Halls is going to end up being nationally recognized as one of the most gifted children's authors around. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Marraige of Industry and Design
This book was published as a catalogue for a 1991 show at the American Craft Museum. The show's purpose was to look at Craft in the United States from 1920-1945.This was an exciting period when American industrial designers took many of the emerging ideas of European Modernism and gave these new theories a unique American character. This age known variously as Depression Modern, Streamline, Art Moderne and Art Deco.

What makes this book interesting is that it focuses on craft. There are chapters on wood working, metal working, glass blowing, ceramics and textiles. As would be expected, this book covers the iconic works of the masters such as Teague, Deskey, Rhode and Wright. But there are also a number of less well known craftmen of the period. It is these more obscure figures that make this book compelling.Their contributions illustrate that fact that this was a movement as oppossed to the exceptional works of a few remarkable craftsmen.

"Craft in the Machine Age" is filled with numerous photographs and has chapters on the different crafts written by museum curators and academics. As you would expect, it is a well made professional catalogue of a major art exhibition. This book is a must purchase for enthusiasts of American material culture in the years between the two World Wars.Highly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Craft Corps
Vicki Howell has placed the love people have for knitting and crochet in one big book. This will explain why people knit/crochet, why they design, how they got started, etc. It's almost like being at a knitting/crochet convention without actually being there.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Crafters
For anyone who loves to craft, this is the book that documents what current crafters--professionals and amateurs--are doing and enjoying. What I love is that it shows all the different crafts out there and where everyone is from. It's inspiring to read everyone's stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's a Craft Corps in all of us.
The interviews in this book are all very inspirational. The individual biographies ring true for all crafters I know.We have all been affected by craft and design at different times in our lives. We have all made pictures with beans and paste in kindergarten, some of us made numerous crafts in girl scouts, been taught by our mothers and fathers (woodworking is a craft too!), created in wood or metal shop in high school, continued crafting at various times in our lives.Reading these craftographies takes me back to my childhood wherememories live of glue, wood and beans.I highly recommend this book for anyone who crafts but more so for anyone thinking of taking on a crafty life:P

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration & Hope

I'm am truly honored to be one of the artists included. Each story is inspiring and though-provoking thanks to Vickie's keen interviewing skills. If you want a book to get you motivated to carve your own niche in the art and craft world, this is it. Each and every one of us are card-carrying members of Craft Corps!!! 2-0 out of 5 stars cute and simple but for youngsters only
This is a cute book but it is definitely a kids only craft book.I know it says ages 9-12 in the description but I still hoped there would be something of use for older kids and young adults but there really wasn't.It's also very thin-- it's 48 pages and doesn't have that many projects in it.For a book that costs more than $20, I was disappointed. It's a nice book... just not worth the price, I thought.
