5-0 out of 5 stars "Be Crafty and Make an Easy Craft Project With Your Dad or Mom, or Your Sibling!"
Here we are "in the middle of summer", some of us very busy caring for our new pet, others of us, playing outdoors, and still others of us, writing book reviews as we comb our way through a collection of books, craft materials, and photos.

I continue to be on this "house-cleaning" project; it mushrooms into all kinds of directions and that is fine.Sorting books, photos, craft materials, and the usual household items is the daily agenda, and just when I think I've gotten a bit farther in my project, I stop to read one of the zillions of books in my collection.

I really like this book of 750 projects with instructions, patterns, and ideas for creating something similar. The catch is that the projects need to be done with one or more persons, "together".While all the projects don't appeal to any one of us, we can come up with projects that two or more of us will enjoy, as well as learn how to better get along with one another.

Chapter 2 will be a favorite for you pet lovers out there; there are plates and dishes to decorate, place mats to make, paw-print plaques, dishes, key chains, treat jars, decorative jars, pet cards, and even a pillow for your pooch.

You will love the other chapters, so I won't spoil the fun by telling you what they are about.Better yet, I will be happy to pass along this book of 750 craft ideas to the first person who calls my attention to reading this.It might be you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fairy Crafts
I am very pleased with this book and plan to use many of the ideas in my church group of kindergarten age girls. This book has so many good ideas with easy to follow and pictured instructions.I would recommend this book to anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect craft book for any little girl
I love this book. My daughter loves to look at all the beautiful things and pick out what she wants to make first. The directions are easy to follow and pictured. The crafts are wonderful and useful. I would recommend this book to anyone with a little girl. Theres everything from dress up crafts to party stuff to decorations for her room. Wonderful!

4-0 out of 5 stars Crafts are for older children
This book had a lot of really wonderful ideas, however, most of the crafts are for older children and my party was for 6 year olds and younger.I made the fairy braclets for the girls myself as it was a little time consuming. For kids 8+ this is a wonderful book with some really cute ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool book.
for all who love fairies or crafts, this is a perfect book.Great ideas, wonderful processes and beautiful products!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book
I bought this book, along with Sweet Pea's Garden: Special Things to Make and Do ~ A Flower Fairies Friends Book & How to Host a Flower Fairy Tea Party, to help me with my daughter's fairy birthday party. The crafts are exquisite as well as resonably easy to do. Most items can be easily found around the house or your nearest craft store. I love the crafts in both this and Sweet Pea's Garden. Both books are easy to do although I think Sweet Pea works best for our smaller fairies while this book would be perfect for an upscale girls tea party. I loved the little stories and the illustrations that were woven through the book. The only thing that dissapointed me was that there weren't any recipes. If there had been three or four little recipes that would have rounded out the book perfectly. I fell in love with the little cake in the picture of the table setting at the beginning of chapter three. The crafts included invitations, bookmarks, wings, skirts, fairy dolls with a fairy land playground, jewelry, etc. My favorite crafts were the playground and the blooming tableware. Both were made to decorate my daughters table and they were absolutely beautiful. This made for a magical day. Oh, and there are instructions for a Violet Choker by Heidi Boyd at the DIY website. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A fun book with lots of ideas!
Nice craft book with easy to follow directions.Projects range from simple to sophisticated, with variations suggested.
I'm glad I bought the book.A good reference for How To's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for creative crafters!
I just love this book! I love all the Day of the Dead themed crafts and this book shows how to recreate all of them at home! Very straightforward steps and even outlines and patterns in the back of the book to help you along...
I will have to get more copies for the young people in my life as I know they would have as much fun as me creating these skulls, skeletons, shrines and all the rest!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent crafting ideas
The projects in this book are for the most part exceptional--very inspiring. The jewelry projects are the weakest, but they do serve as good starting points.I anticipate making several of these projects before the next Dia de Muertos.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great how-to book of fun crafts
This book has lots of good photos of Day of the Dead art and crafts. The how-to instructions are simple and easy to follow, but still allow for individual creativity. There is also good background information on the Day of the Dead and different ways in which it is celebrated.I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful projects and ideas
I purchased this book for my daughter and I. It was her choice.
It contains a bit of history about Dia de los Muertos and a lot of full color projects and pictures of wonderful art for inspiration.
It's better for crafters with some experience, most of the projects aren't step by step to make exactly what's pictured but rather guidelines for allowing your own creativity to flourish.
The section on calaveras was a favorite. It explains how to make them out of polymer clay and gives lots of ideas for other mediums including paper, wood and my personal favorite, the idea of embroidering skeleton features on a rag doll. That one doesn't have a pattern, but the idea is great and I think that's the sort my daughter will want to make.
There are instructions for making paper mache skulls or skull masks using a purchased plain face mask and a balloon that I know will be a family project this year.
The jewelry section has some great projects in it. My favorite are the different charms. I have some plastic skull beads and one charm was a very nice colorful wire and bead skeleton. The painted pearl earrings were lovely as well.
Very recommended for the variety of crafting mediums and the gorgeous photographs.

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointed, ideas not kid friendly
School, at home, where ever, paper bags and plates are two of the most commonly found item laying around. I thought the projects could have been more colorful and kid friendly. There are too many adult steps. I'd recommend "Look what you can make with Paper Plates." The projects are really cute, quick, and are more easily done by a child.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of ideas for projects....
I found this book very helpful when planning preschool art classes with plenty of paper bags available.Paper bags are cheap and recycle-friendly, which makes them ideal for class projects. This book has lots of fun ideas for making art and crafts projects, such as maraccas and wreaths.I think the ideas can be adapted for children of almost any age, 2 and up (for 2-year-olds, an adult can form the base, such as a wreath, from a paper bag and let the child decorate it with glued on things or paint...)I have picked it up from the library more than once and am considering buying a copy for my refernce shelf. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Very basic information and not much more.
This bulletin is one in a series of pamphlets that touches on aspects of country living.
If you have no experience with craft shows, and I mean not even ever attending one, this book may hold some value. However, I can't imagine a situation where you would be considering selling at a craft show when you haven't ever been to one.
This bulletin covers some very generic and basic concepts of being a seller at craft shows. The recommendations for a certain amount of introspection is well done since a commitment to creating a craft, committing to a show and then running your booth are things you need to consider before you just jump in and do it.
I wish this book had gone into a few more pages of detail. Just as the reader is saying, "Hmmm, good point, let's explore that a little more deeply." the pamphlet ends. The writing is friendly and not overly complicated so the few ideas presented here are relayed well.
If the idea of selling at a craft show just popped into your head and you need some basic info, go ahead and get this bulletin, the cost is minimal. If you've been to a few and set up a booth once or twice, you already know 90% of the facts in this bulletin. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Weekend Crafter: Gourd Crafts
This is an excellent book for the slightly experienced gourd crafter: someone who has already collected some tools and has an understanding of the risks of working with gourds (dust and mold). The ideas are advanced for the novice gourd crafter and might scare them off.Crafters who have had some experience will find this book rich with ideas, great color photographs, clear instructions and projects to use as "goals".

Product Description
Kids are naturally creative, so most easy craft ideas for children are almost always a hit. But it can be downright difficult for catechists, teachers, and parents to help kids make a concrete connection between a fun craft and their faith. Crafting Faith solves that problem by offering 101 easy craft ideas for children that are explicitly connected to Scripture, liturgical events, and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

In addition to clear and concise directions, a listing of the time required to complete the project, and the craft's general theme (e.g., Resurrection, Jesus, etc.), each easy craft idea for children in the book includes a Faith Connection, specific Bible verses or a faith-sharing opportunity that encourages kids to think spiritually while they cut, color, and glue. Paper boats, fish mobiles, and prayer butterflies may one day be forgotten and even discarded, but the faith lessons learned while implementing these easy craft ideas for children are bound to stick with them throughout their lifetime. ... First, the Techniques section guides readers through Sewing, Appliqué, Embroidery, Quilting, Dyeing, and Printing. Following that, the Projects A to Z section features more than 150 clever ideas (including many no-sew projects), all illustrated and explained with the clear, detailed instructions that have become a signature of Martha Stewart’s  magazines, books, and television shows.

An enclosed CD includes full-size clothing patterns as well as templates that can be easily produced on a home printer. Fabric, thread, and tool glossaries identify the properties, workability, and best uses of common sewing materials. And, perhaps best of all, when you need it most, Martha and her talented team of crafts editors offer you the reassurance that you really can make it yourself.

The projects are as delightful as they are imaginative, and include classic Roman shades, hand-drawn stuffed animals, an easy upholstered blanket chest, a quilted crib bumper, French knot-embellished pillowcases and sheets, and Japanese-embroidered table linens, among many others. With gorgeous color photographs as well as expert instruction, this handy guide will surely encourage beginners and keep sewers and crafters of all experience levels wonderfully busy for many years to come. ... She bought it for herself, and suggested I get my niece one as a wedding gift! I am buying this copy today for her as a wedding gift. I think it is a perfect gift for a new bribe and homemaker! 2-0 out of 5 stars Way over my head!
This book didn't peak my interest in Shade making.....I was hoping to find a simple wood plan and all the ones I liked seemed way over my skill level.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful surprise!
I work in both wood and metals and was expecting a basic volume of metalsmithing techniques. To my surprise, this book can be used in metalsmithing (example: dimensional layout drawings awayla), but it focuses on the use of colored paper (instead of mica or stained glass) and cardboard (instead of metals) Although it explores a medium I ordinarily use to design and make mock-ups, the drawings can easily be used in the metal shop using solder or riviting as a fastener instead of glue and tape and mica or glass in the place of paper.

Please note: These are vintage lighting designs put together by Popular Mechanics during the Arts & Crafts era and I would recommend it to anyone interested in this period of design and technique. Although some of the designs are a little 'dumpy', it would take little time or effort to change them to your liking. This book is a steal!

3-0 out of 5 stars good book if you have a base in wood working
I like this book as reference for lamps in the arts and craft style however if you are looking for lots of step by step instructions you are out of luck.if you are looking for a good reference book and can visualise a project based on a few black and white drawing and some instruction then this book is for you.

This book is an inspiration.I just love making these Waldorf dolls and the instructions in this book are very simple and easy to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wholesome and satisfying
The designs in this book are easy to follow, and fun to make. Great pictures, nice format, and inspiring ideas for the beginning to expert crafter. Also recommended is "Feltcraft", which displays a wide array of other felt toys and crafts.

I am totally satisfied with this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars You need a Gnome in your home!
This would be a terrific book for a grandmother or older sister to use with little kids, particularly if the kids like stories about elves or gnomes.

The book has instructions and patterns for a variety of gnomes in several different sizes and styles. Most are made of felt with the addition of nuts, beads, pipecleaners and other easily found craft supplies.

Many of the projects could be completed by a 6-7 year old with some help from an adult or teen. Younger kids could help by finding feathers, nuts, seeds, etc to be used to trim the gnomes somebody else makes.

This book will enable Children to produce really nice projects to use for decorations or gifts. Turn off the TV and the computer and spend an evening making gnomes. You will find that it is truely magic! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Spirituality
Beautiful, vivid photos that definitely make the book. Gorgeous full color shots of all of the crafts, as well as zen photos randomly scattered through the book. I loved the quotes scattered throughout as well. The projects within are designed to bring a calm and peace to your daily life. The instructions are easy to follow for anyone making these crafts as well as easily adaptable if your needs differ. They vary from easy, such as the Healing Meditation Candle and the Receptivity Salts or can be quite involved such as the Star Light with Nine Points and the Doors of Perception Curtain. I have already made the Travel Altar, Smudge Pot, the Witness Mirror which I use for a small shrine, and of course the Low-Fire Kiln. I was very pleased to see the instructions for that included since I didn't really want to find try and find a local kiln that I could use. I have also used the kiln to make a Simple Earthen Chalice found in Witch Crafts by Willow Polson. I have a list of items that I wish to do soon, such as the Dream Decanter, the Amulet Bag, the Zafu and the Belly Belt. LOL. I have other projects to finish first or my husband won't let me buy the items needed for new stuff. I have 4 dresses cut and ready to sew for my daughters that have been sitting by the sewing machine for almost a month. :D I find this book invaluable no matter what Path you may be on.

5-0 out of 5 stars A New Age
For those of us who are new age it is a wonderful book. Finally a book that gives you sights and scents that are really easy to make to put in your meditation area. And while you are making the art maybe put on some Yanni or David Arkenstone in your cd player to set just the right mood.Everyone needs a place where they can go and have some personal quiet time. This book gives you what you need to make it all that more relaxing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surround yourself with spiritual beauty
When I discovered this book I was filled with delight. The vivid photographs which are bursting with color depict each project in absolute detail. The instructions for making the crafts are easy to follow and the cost of gathering the necessary supplies is minimal when compared with purchasing something at a shop. I was especialy taken with the dream decanter, the retablo, and the hope vessel. Even if your not going to make any of the crafts, the photographs and pictures alone are worth having as a coffee table book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice book if you have the resources...
This is a beautiful book that will inspire you to create. The only problem is that it seems like you need to have a lot of materials to create these projects. There are really only TWO of these that I would find myself making: The travel altar and the chakra bracelet. These are two of the simplest ones.I would love to make the smudge pots, but you have to build your own kiln if you don't have one available. Then a few of the other projects you need a sewing machine for. Then on a few of the other ones you have to use a saw, drills and some lumber. This may appeal to some, but for those of us on budgets and looking for some simple projects, you won't really find it here!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Invitation to the Spiritual
This is such an amazing book of projects and crafts which truly do enhance your spiritual life. Each and every project from the low fire kiln to the dream decanter is a wonderfull idea. My personal favorite however was the portable altar. Everyopne can benefit in some way from reading this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating projects
I have not made anything from this book yet, but it has some fascinating projects.I would not have a child do any of them, though, unless careful hands-on supervision by an adult. The projects involve things like making jewelry from stones (involves drilling holes with high-power drills), making cement tiles with stone decorations, and constructing stick furniture. One of the easiest involves painting delicate pictures in black and white paint on rocks, and the results are stunning, though perhaps beyond the capabilities of many crafters.Nevertheless I find the book very inspirational and quite charming. ...
