From the supplier: The unabated escalation of crimes is compelling property managers to turn to neighborhood watches and other community-based programs. Although crime prevention has always been an inextricable part of property management since time immemorial, newer types of crimes, such as gang activity, drugs and advanced car-theft networks, require a new kind of prevention approach. For most managers, a community watch program provides the solution. Such type of initiative usually involves the cooperation of the community's citizens as well as the police force. Experts believe that this type of community effort is particularly valuable in residential and commercial properties beset with gang and drug problems because the perpetrators of the crime are based in the community.

Among the rampant crimes committed at the office park area off Interstate 85 are vandalism, car-theft and smash-grab robberies. Through the efforts of Scientific-Atlanta Inc, the landlord and the Gwinnett County police, security lessons touching on such topics as frauds, scams and gang awareness helped more people be aware and report crimes to the authorities.

From the supplier: David Erlich organized the Spenard Community Patrol in Spenard, Alaska, in 1992 to fight the spread of drug dealing, prostitution, after-hours drinking and gambling in the community. The group uses computers to digitize video recordings of suspect individuals. Erlich edits the video recordings to get close-up images, which are sent to community business owners and the police to help build criminal cases against suspects. Erlich's sophisticated methods have helped reduce crime and other illegal activities in Spenard.

Product Description
From the early 1980s in England, community policing has been held up as a newcommitment to the ideals of service and the rejection of coercive policingstyles. The idea was to encourage a partnership between the public and thepolice in which community needs would be met by officers on localbeats.

Today, British government ministers and senior police officersdepict Neighbourhood Watch, the centerpiece of the scheme, as a great success. However, Watching Police, Watching Communities reveals thatmost schemes are dormant or dead. The authors trace the causes of scheme failureto the lack of commitment to community policing by police forces. Mostimportantly, they find a police rank-and-file culture which celebratesaggression, machismo and the assertion of authority especially in areas whereethnic minorities and other disadvantaged groups reside.
