2020 Vision: Imagining An Enlightened and Sustainable Future
a book by Derek Joe Tennant

America, and everyone on Earth today, faces many difficult challenges. Dwindling resources, climate change, pollution, overpopulation, and a growing feeling of disconnection from God or religion are but some of the issues that must be solved if Man will retain society and culture, as we know it.
In my book “2020 Vision”, I examine 4 broad topics, and identify at least 2 paradigm shifts that will enable us to not only survive the coming storms, but also thrive and develop as well. Here are the 4 topics and some of the accompanying shifts I propose:

AMERICAN ECONOMY
1) Change from the Federal Reserve System to a system similar to the Greenbacks used during the Civil War. The US government can and should issue its own currency, not borrow money from a for-profit central bank.
2) Americans must understand the impact of globalization, ‘borrowing to buy stuff’ and our use of the bulk of the Earth’s resources
POLITICS
1) We must end war as practiced today, identify the root causes of war and find ways we can meet everyone’s needs without resorting to violence
2) I propose several changes to the American democracy; using the improved and expanded communications of the 21st century to increase the involvement of citizens in their government and to increase the transparency of that government, and to open up campaigns to third parties by using fusion voting in all elections
ENVIRONMENT
1) We must set as goals the elimination of coal as a fuel for generating electricity within 10 years, and the use of fossil fuels to power vehicles within 15 years. ‘No More Oil’ is our rallying cry.
2) Not only must we trim our use of resources, but also we must tackle new approaches to recycling the resources we do use.
SPIRITUALITY
1) I don’t claim to have the only way for anyone to relate to religion or spirituality, but I do ask that whatever your particular beliefs, you increasingly put them into practice, that you ‘walk the talk’.
2) I also look at the emerging ‘evolutionary enlightenment’ movement. People appear to be ‘waking up’ to Man’s place in the Universe, and are finding that ‘enlightenment’ is but another step along our path. Following the first Big Bang that created our Universe, the second Big Bang that created life, and the third, Man’s blossoming creativity, we stand on the cusp of the fourth, conscious awareness. In this section we explore some of what that may mean and how you can join in this adventure.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3 stars for Kindle, 4 stars for content
What first compelled me to review this book was the opportunity to complain about the hastily created Kindle edition full of typos, run-ons and bad punctuation. The first chapter reminded me of English class exercises on grading classmates' papers. The overall feel of the content was like reluctantly reading a persuasive essay in high school, on a subject I agreed with, but wouldn't support because it was presented so poorly. After downloading from Amazon, I found this book available in .pdf format for free on [...]. Save yourself from the Kindle version and get this book from them.
Beyond all that, I found an inspiring wake-up call to all American citizens to confront key social issues including: the Federal Reserve monetary system, our current voting system, and global warming. Tennat challenges his reader to take a good, hard, and often uncomfortable introspective look into the self and asks to find similiar behaviors in society as a whole. He highlights destructive beliefs, the circumstances surrounding them and encourages understanding as the prerequisite to problem solving. He writes with great compassion and offers very possible solutions to current and future issues. Despite the typos and punctuation, Tennant's message is powerful and clear. I would recommend this book to everyone. ... Read more
