Extractions: The Speech Department faculty recognizes that a well-rounded educational experience should include participation in extra-curricular activities. Some of the special activities and organizations available to speech students include the following: Forensics In addition to the play productions, Northwestern's Speech and Drama Department offers students the opportunity to participate on the Forensics team. We participate in NEDA debate (team and Lincoln-Douglas), as well as all 11 AFA individual events. Several tournaments also offer Reader's Theatre and the state tournament offers a Radio Broadcasting event. We try to participate in three to four local tournaments (Oklahoma and Kansas) each semester. We are competitive, but Northwestern is primarily concerned with the educational value of forensics and thus places an emphasis on learning and growth. In addition to learning, many new friendships are forged and fellowship is enjoyed. We also provide students with the opportunity to participate in Speech and Debate at the administrative level as we host a high school invitational tournament in the fall and a high school regional tournament in the spring.

The speakers are John Hoff , Deputy Assistant Secretary for Disability, Aging, and Long-Term Care Policy with the Department of Health and Human Services; Lucian Leape, MD , Adjunct Professor of Health Policy in Harvard University's Department of Health Policy and Management; and Tom Mayo , chair of AHLA's Public Interest Committee.
