Now look at us. Europe hates us, OPEC is raping us, and every third world nation is vying to steal our technolgy and take our money. We're having power outages all over the place, China is becoming the next Soviet Union, and our foreign policy has been shot to hell. Domestic policy isn't that much better. We're having crises all over the place: energy, health, military, education, etc. What the fuck is going on? There are plenty of places to point the finger of blame, and many unique reasons for each problem do exist, but what I'm going to talk about here is one specific aspect that has done more harm than most other things: fucked up political parties. Third parties haven't been a strong political force since the nineteenth century, and the only real impact they've had lately is altering the balance of power between the Republicans and Democrats. In 1992 Ross Perot fucked over the Republicans, and in 2000 Ralph Nadar fucked over the Democrats. Yet whether it be the Green Party or the Reform Party, both of them suck because they are not inclusive but narrow-minded. Neither of these parties will ever have a chance at capturing a national election. They are merely wild cards. All those other parties, i.e. Comminist, Libertarian, Socialist, etc., are just fucking pathetic. They're all a bunch of Neo-Nazi's who want to overthrow our capitalistic society and form their own utopia. We all know that kind of policy is bull shit. That crap never works out and the biggest consequence is that the people are the ones who get screwed. Nothing will ever change that.

Never mind the thrill of competition, the excitement of being part of a movement for change, and the comradeship with fellow political allies. Besides, New Democrats like to party. Politics is also about power, winning it and using it. Changing things for the better. The only way to make politics decent is to elect decent people and to have a diverse group of people working with them. That's where you come in. Being involved in a political party means that you can have a say in who runs for political office in your area, and on a larger scale you can help shape the policy of the party.

Talmadge Sharp stepped down from the Harris County Democratic Executive Committee. For more than five decades, the 76-year-old Sharp has been a key player in Democratic Party politics, especially inside the African-American community. At one time, Sharp led his voting precinct the legendary Precinct 259 in Pleasantville to the highest voter turnout in Texas.
