Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Råbjerg Mile is a migrating coastal dune between Skagen and Frederikshavn, Denmark. It is the largest moving dune in Northern Europe with an area of around 1 km² (0.4 mi²) and a height of 40 m (130 ft). The dune contains a total of 4 million m³ of sand. The wind moves it in a north-easterly direction up to 18 m a year. The dune leaves a low, moist layer of sand behind it, trailing back westwards towards Skagerrak, where the Mile originally formed more than 300 years ago. Over 250,000 people visit the dune every year. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Overview of Ichnofossils and Their Implications

Richard G. Bromley has provided the geologist with a good summary of ichnofossils and their implications. He tells us how trace fossils can better be recognized in the field. A list of references is available for further study.

Bromley describes some trace fossils in significant detail. For example, Zoophycus has branches having diameters that change with distance, and he interprets this as the growth of the organism that constructed this trace fossil.

He discusses several classifications of trace fossils, for example the stratinomic classifications of Seilacher and Martinsson. He always defines the terms he uses (for example, cubichnia for resting traces).

Bromley also puts ichnofossils into a paleoenvironmental context. He repeatedly stresses oxygen in the sediment as a major limiting factor that constrains the burrowing behaviors of benthic organisms. He elaborates on the tiering of ichnofossil assemblages, and also provides an overview of ichnofabric analysis. Finally, he cites some measurements of the rate of reworking of sediment by modern benthic organisms.

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The traditional districts of Denmark differ from the country's administrative subnational units, as their existence and extent are usually not defined by law. Danes will often refer to their traditional districts if asked where they come from, rather than the administrative unit which have been changed several times (last in 2007).Some of these districts are nationally known, others more locally. Some of them may vary in their delimitations, while others are based on ancient hundreds and syssels with fixed borders. Dialect, folklore and local identity will or would often vary from one traditional district to another. The lands of Denmark were the three major parts of the country until the 17th century. ... Excerpt: The Blue Lagoon (Icelandic: "Bláa lónið") geothermal spa is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The steamy waters are part of a lava formation. The warm waters are rich in minerals like silica and sulphur and bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help some people suffering from skin diseases such as psoriasis. The water temperature in the bathing and swimming area of the lagoon averages 40 °C (104 °F). The lagoon is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant Svartsengi. Superheated water is vented from the ground near a lava flow and used to run turbines that generate electricity. After going through the turbines, the steam and hot water passes through a heat exchanger to provide heat for a municipal hot water heating system. Then the water is fed into the lagoon for recreational and medicinal users to bathe in. The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwestern Iceland. Bláa lónið is situated approximately 13 km from the Keflavík International Airport and 39 km from the capital city of Reykjavík. The Blue Lagoon spa and geothermal complex is clearly visible from any of the usual satellite imagery sources at coordinates (63.879, -22.434). Iceland has a strict code of hygiene and guests are required to shower without clothing in the communal shower area before and after bathing. It is claimed that in June 2007 the Blue Lagoon appeared green, bewildering both residents and tourists of Iceland. The Blue Lagoon was used as the pit stop for the first leg of The Amazing Race 6.The Blue Lagoon was used for the thermal spa sc...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=2519487 ... Read more

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Regions of Denmark were created as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform. The five regions replace the former thirteen counties (amter). At the same time, the number of municipalities (kommuner) was cut from 270 to 98. The reform was made effective on 1 January 2007. The names of the regions in English are not uniform. The government often uses the Danish names or directly translated English names (e.g. Greater Copenhagen, Zealand, North Jutland, Southern Denmark, Central Jutland). The regions themselves partially use other names in English, substituting 'Jutland' for 'Denmark', as shown below. ... Read more

Excerpt: The Denmark Strait (Danish: , Icelandic: , the latter meaning Greenland Sound) is a strait between Greenland (northwest) and Iceland (southeast). The Norwegian island of Jan Mayen is located northeast of the strait. It connects the Greenland Sea, an extension of the Arctic Ocean, to the Atlantic Ocean and is 300 miles (480 km) long and 180 miles (290 km) wide at its narrowest. The narrow depth is 625 feet (191 meters) deep. The cold East Greenland Current passes through the strait and carries icebergs south into the north Atlantic Ocean. It hosts important fishing grounds. During World War II, the Battle of the Denmark Strait took place on May 24, 1941. The German battleship Bismarck sank the British battlecruiser HMS Hood, which exploded with great loss of life, and seriously damaged the battleship Prince of Wales. Bismarck succeeded in entering the Atlantic through the Strait, but damage sustained in the battle prevented it from carrying out its intended destruction of British convoys. ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=610358 ... Product Description
Bridge over troubled water? In the summer of 2000, 'TheBridge' - linking Southern Sweden and Denmark across the strait ofØresund - was opened after nearly a century of heated discussions andcontinuously changing plans.

In this book, the excitement surrounding the planning and construction of the bridge is analyzed, and the dreaming and scheming involved in the attempts to create a new transnational region across the water are examined.

The authors, an interdisciplinary team of Danish and Swedish scholars from the areas of Ethnology and Strategic Management Studies, use the Øresund regionalization processes as a case to discuss how transnational cultural, political and economic integration takes place in a world where the global and local as well as pasts and futures meet in novel ways. ...
