4-0 out of 5 stars Too Comprehensive?
This is an excellent comprehensive and beautifully illustrated pediatric dermatology tome. As such, it should be particularly useful to specialists in this area. As for value to the primary care provider, it may be a bit much. I like to maintain a library of various pediatric subspecialty texts in addition to the standard Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics. Given so many areas to cover, I like to keep these in a price range not much north of $100, and preferably under that. So, while this is a superb text, my preference as a primary care provider is for Weston's Color Textbook of Pediatric Dermatology. It is organized well, illustrated nicely, and priced better. It is also sufficient for all primary care needs. If it's not in there, it merits a dermatology referral.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hurwitz Textbook of Clinical Dermatology
This edition far supercedes prior editions including pictorials & access to the web.I have always been a fan of Sid Hurwitz and had the great fortune to meet him and hear him lecture.I am sure if Dr. Hurwitz were here with us now he would be very proud of this work.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Advanced Look at Veterinary Dermatology
This book contains all the information a practitioner would need to practice high quality veterinary dermatology. However, it may be too advanced for many general practitioners who may want to look at more clinically minded books. This book is well referenced and the use of the references is accurate. When the experience of the authors is used it is clear to the reader. The most problamatic chapters have to do with the structure and function of skin, where the author tends to shift subjects and alternates the detail to which the subject is covered - sometimes in the same sentance! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Dermatology basics
The book gives very brief info on common dermatological findings. good for learning the basics, but not much else than that. not a bad book, but i certainly don't think it's worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr.Azeem Alam Khan.M.B.,B.S.,(QAU),M.Sc(UK),FACP(USA).
I have read this wonderful book for my exams. It is an excellent book.It has beautiful pictures, illustrations and slides.I do not agree with the author that it is only for "Primary -care practitioner" as a dermatologist I really enjoyed reading it.I find it quite useful and different from other dermatology books.
I recommend this book to all dermatologists, trainee dermatologist and general practitioners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Quick-Reference
Frankel's Field Guide to Clinical Dermatology is a convenient pocket-sized daily working manual for the recognition and treatment of the most commonly encountered dermatological conditions in the clinic, at the bedside, and in examinations. As such it is particularly suitable for medical undergraduate students and health care specialists. The text is written in a concise and user-friendly manner and is clearly integrated with abundant high quality colour clinical photographs. The contents are presented in a unique and informal format, which reflect the author's desire to provide readers with better accessibility to the facts and facilitate greater ease in the identification and interpretation of various skin lesions. For example, rashes are described under the easy to understand headings "rashes that itch a lot", "red rashes on the face", "red rashes (not on face)" and "scaling rashes". Other areas covered in a similar fashion include blisters, bumps, spots, leg ulcers, nails and folds, hair loss and procedures and supplies. Perhaps one of the best features of this text is the inclusion of a useful section on differential diagnosis and how to make the diagnosis for each dermatological disorder-necessary and helpful information for the uninitiated or inexperienced eye. With the emphasis throughout on simplicity and accessibility, there is less focus on pathogenesis and aetiology. However, this field guide is not essentially a picture book. Indeed, the author provides more than sufficient detail on symptoms and signs, treatment options and prognostic information to compensate for less direct mechanistic content. Overall, Frankel's Field Guide to Clinical Dermatology is an invaluablequick-reference/revision dermatological text which successfully combines qualities of a very good diagnostic atlas with its incorporation ofnumerous colour illustrations as well as also providing all the essential details on the common or classical skin disorders. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars just ok
This book is great if you are going into dermatology and you want to read it cover to cover. If you are a medical student rotating in dermatology but going into something else this book is not as good.During your rotation you will see a condition and then look it up in your handy book. This book is written to give overview on general concepts but is not as good if you want to know everything about one subject.Several times I have looked up a condition in the index only to find that it is either not in the book at all, or it is talked about in 5 different chapters without one central entry on the condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Best Buy
I am more than satisfied after I received the book and actually took a read. The book is well made and organized, containing super rich content in a compact size. I also found those photos in good quality.
Along with the book you also get the access to the Student Consult online which I think still needs improvement. The software took a lot of time to synchronize with my PDA and it generates many un-coded letters.
But anyhow, this book itself is worth the price. A must read for new dermatologists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr.Azeem Alam Khan.MBBS (QAU),M.Sc (UK),FACP (USA).
I bought this book a month ago, read it thoroughly and find it quite intersting and informative. It is different from the books usually written on dermatology. All questions asked are very common, informative and the one which are usually asked in the ward rounds and clinical meetings.
I recommend this book to all the dermatologists !

3-0 out of 5 stars Not so happy
I BOUGHT THE 7TH EDITION AND VERY UNHAPPY RIGHT NOW AS IT IS NOT SO USER FRIENDLY.I BOUGHT THIS BOOK FROM INDIA AND HAD A TOUGH TIME GETTING THE E-EDITION DOWNLOADED.IT IS DIFFICULT TO GO THROUGH THE BOOK AND COMPUTER AT THE SAME TIME.THE BOOK LOOKS SLIM AND HANDY BUT PROBABLY THE 6TH EDITION WAS BETTER.THE ETIOPATHOGENESIS IN CERTAIN TOPIC GOES TOO DEEP UNNECESSARILY.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not up to the standards set by earlier versions
I agree with the criticism of the "new" seventh edition. In reading the posted material the compliments are specifically for the sixth edition. The standards set by the previous versions of Fitzpatrick's Dermatology in General Medicine have not been sustained. The wealth of authoritative information and references have been removed from the printed version making it exceedingly difficult for library patrons to access the material.Missing from this version are the wonderful wealth of photographs, electron micrographs and other authoritative source material. This version leaves me looking for a better textbook or continuing to use the more authoritative sixth edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and practical
I am a resident of dermatology, for my tests i have to read the hole book. when i saw this new edition i was very pleased.
Compared to others editions it has more comparative tables so is easier to make diferences between diseases that are alike, also brings new algorithms that makes easier to understand the evolution and what do you spect to find.
the chapter of embiogenesis and the part of inmunology in some chapters are also illustrated (the last one does not bring those illustrations.
Its true, it cames in three collums, but the letter is big enough for read it, also i prefer that that three o 4 volumes.
in comparison of the bologna, this one brings more diseases.

1-0 out of 5 stars Most user-unfriendly book in a long time
I had been looking forward to the new edition of Fitzpatrick after the announcements of new, updated format, improved web-content, etc. What a disappointment! Only part of the text is actually in the book, additional content only to be found on the web-version, which is both cumbersome to use (PDF version of the book rather than html with hyperlinks) and appears to deliver only part of what was promised (i.e. there is no way to copy the figures and paste into powerpoint). As a bonus, the entire text is littered with "e" symbols indicating additional e-only text, which makes for quite annoying reading and is just plain ugly.

The general unattractiveness of the layout is compounded by the 3-column design, which means that practically every word longer than 10 letters (i.e. most of derm nomenclature) is hyphenated at least once (often twice). Not the way forward for residents and practicioners alike, methinks. Figure quality is definitely below the Bolognia standard and after reviewing several chapters it is obvious that a lot of the material is duplicated throughout both volumes (amazingly, the same picture that looks fine in volume I will be off-color in volume II and vice versa, which is quite annoying in a field like dermatology, which relies heavily on visual clues).

If this is the future of textbooks, then I hope I will be able to get on without using any. In the meantime, I shall return my copy of Fitz and go with the new edition of Bolognia.

Trying to purchase this two volume set through AMAZON was a DISASTER!The order was shipped and only one of the two volumes arrived.I returned the one volume and AMAZON reshipped the order.Again, only volume two arrived. I finally had to cancel the order with AMAZON and ordered it directly from the publisher ~ McGraw Hill Medical.AMAZON has not explained the basis for the problem, but McGraw Hill ships the two volumes together in shrink wrap.Somehow, the two volumes (which look identical except for the volume number) were removed from the shrink wrap and, in each case, only volume 2 was shipped by AMAZON. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Lacking photos
Disappointed in the lack of photos. Each time I look up an index item and refer to the page there isn't a photo, even for actinic keratosis. Regret purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
This is a must have for all dermatologists. This book is small in size, but massive in content.I have always said, "If it ain't in Andrews', it ain't worth knowing." and this is still true of this version. This edition has great color pictures (although I always thought that the B&W photos in the previous editions were so terrific that you could still "see" the color in them.).This is another book that you really shouldn't be without whether you are a resident or practicing dermatologist.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Dermatology Text
This is a must have book for non-dermatologists and dermatologists alike. This text has replaced Habif as the traditional textbook for non-dermatologists, because of its concise straightforward approach to dermatology, making it easily understood by the non-dermatologist.For the dermatologist, it is simple to read, but not lacking in depth, such that it can serve as the main textbook for refreshing the information learned during residency without getting bogged down with useless minutia.I use this as the textbook of choice on a daily basis.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT NEW EDITION
Forget the hype about Bolognia, this is the best book on clinical dermatology out there today. Written by three of the top clinical dermatologists in the country, there is a unity of writing and approach and and a consistent high quality level that you don't get with texts with hundreds of co-authors (many of whom are in training themselves). There is also a refreshing aspect that this book is written for practicing dermatologists and avoids much of the incomprehensibility of so-called academic dermatology texts. Andrews is much improved over the last edition with color photos and the input from Dirk Elston, one of the most prolific dermatogists in the country. This is the one book EVERY dermatologist should have on his desk.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best pediatric derm book for pediatricians
I love this book. I consider it the best pediatric derm book for pediatricians. Hurwitz is more comprehensive and is probably better for dermatologists, but this is more accessible for pediatric primary care and the price is more palatable. For family physicians, the new edition of Habif may be better for its nice combination of adult and pediatric dermatology.

4-0 out of 5 stars Peds Derm Text
Nice collection of clear photos and helpful in the office. Good to have on the shelf for reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quintessential Pediatric Derm Book
This book is a solid addition to a Pediatrician, Dermatologist or aspiring medical student's library. The pictures are detailed, and the accompanying text is nicely organized. The CD-ROM is a pleasant addition, as it has "slide-show" capabilities where you pick certain images to show.I use this function to teach residents and medical students.Overall, a great purchase! ... I bought this book a month ago.I think it was the biggest mistake of my life! It's completely boring. It's just like reading a Pharmocopia or Drug Index (Even they are better!!!).
There are no illustrations, writing is very small, abbreviations are allot and difficult to follow.Above all it's quite expensive.
I don't recommend this book to any dermatologist or health practitioner.
Sorry!!

    Product Description
Dermatology is a field for which traditional Chinese medicine is rightly respected. Proficiency in this field, however, requires specialized knowledge that is neither taught at most schools in the West, nor readily accessible to English- speaking practitioners. Manual of Dermatology in Chinese Medicine provides the practitioner with the information needed to properly treat skin diseases. Introductory chapters discuss the history of dermatology in traditional Chinese medicine, as well as aspects of diagnostics, differentiation and treatment that are peculiar to this field. The remaining 17 chapters provide detailed discussion of the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of specific skin conditions, including those most commonly seen in the clinic. Skin diseases are organized by biomedical categories, which will enable practitioners to easily reference available color atlases of dermatology to aid in diagnosis. The focus of this book is on treatment, especially herbal, but also acupuncture. Among its features is a comparision of the advantages and disadvantages of TCM and biomedical treatments for each of the conditions described. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Chinese Medicine
The book arrived in pristene condition and on time. I practice acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and have been looking for help with dermatologic conditions, this book more than fills the bill.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for TCM practitioner
Good book to have as an additional source of information for dermatology cases, which has both: Herbal and acupunture/moxibustion treatment suggestions. It was my first book in dermatology in Chinese Medicine and served it's prupose, altough I still go back from time to time to compare with another, more expensive and way more thorough "Dermatology in TCM" by Xu Yihou. I put 4 stars because it is lacking more detailed explanation, compare to the other one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Written for those with Western and Eastern Medical Background
The book is divided up by western medicine diagnoses of skin diseases with herbal formulas and short commentary by TCM diagnosis. The dosages and individual herbs still need some adjustment for individual patients, but the formulas that are compiled are effective in my experience.I would recommend purchasing an illustrated manual of dermatological diseases to accompany this book, as well as reading CDC/state guidelines on infectious/communicable diseases. Skin diseases that are contagious and difficult to kill are often misdiagnosed. ... Read more
