2-0 out of 5 stars Health Science Library Editor's Recommendation
This is an excellent text however we recommend Physical Signs in Medicine & Surgery: An Atlas of Rare, Lost and Forgotten Physical Signs as it is the most comprehensive resource available for practitioners and students in the clinical fields.Whether you are studying medicine, dentistry, nursing, or veterinary science the answers to even the most difficult diagnosis are in this Atlas. After you begin to use it, it can replace a half dozen books that cover physical signs. This awesome clinical text and a scut monkey house manual are all you will need for even the toughest residency and you will continue to reference it for years into the future. It is the - Must Have Book - for learning differential diagnosis.

5-0 out of 5 stars a solid foundation to dermatology
This is a must read for aspiring dermatologists. Although I bought my copy in 2003, I find something new every time I read it and it helps sharpen clinical acumen. Probably the most valued book in my collection of dermatology books. It reminds me of Hutchinson's Clinical Methods I used as a medical student. I often check Amazon.com if a new edition has beenpublished. Can't wait for one. As a matter of fact that's how I reached this page in the first place!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for Derm residents!
This book is an excellent collection of beautiful color photographs of both rare and common skin lesions. It describes physical signs useful in diagnosing skin diseases. It is a favorite among the residents in my derm program. It would also be helpful to medical students interested in derm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Physical signs in dermatology
This is a beautiful and very excellent textbbook on physical signs of the skin written by Clifford M Lawrence from Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne and Neil H Cox from Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, both experienced dermatologists.
The book has chapters with more than 700 full-color photographs of excellent quality and very instructive, informative tables and diagnostic tips and pitfalls in each chapter. The chapters are not divided according to diseases, but rather a logic and informative way to experience dermatology through the clinical features, like shape and pattern of lesions, colours, regional distribution and much more. The index is also very useful.
The chapters are detailed with such high quality illustrations that you feel the patient in front of you.
This is a very important book that should be found as a companion for every dermatologist, but the family physician, pediatrician and internist will also need it in their daily clinical work. Any medical library should not be without this book....

3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of info, but pictures often too small
This is a small manual, 4" x 6", which appears to be mainly designed to carry in your pocket as you see patients. It has quite a lot of information on some 200 different skin disorders.

I returned this item because there were a couple of things I didn't like about the manual:

1) A number of the pictures are too small to see the details of the skin problem well.

2) All of the authors are family practitioners. For a dermatology reference, I'd like at least one author to be a dermatologist. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great for primary care
I am a family medicine resident. My derm prof at UCSF recommended this when i was a student. It is a great intro to how to think about skin and guides you through a systematic approach to come up with a diagnosis, and then treatment is included too. Each chapter is based on the main morphological findings (erythematous rash vs. scaling vs. papules vs. pigmented lesions etc) to help you learn to THINK derm instead of just pattern recognition, which is what a derm atlas does. This is NOTa derm atlas (it is better), and once you master the concepts here a derm atlas is a good second text to have.good luck, derm is my nemesis but this book makes it easier in primary care --

4-0 out of 5 stars good entry level
Good over all but not indepth enough for what I really wanted, however for the boards it has all of the necessary info.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basics for the Beginner
Today I finished the 2nd week of a four week rotation in derm, and I have read about 2/3 of the book. Our derm dept lends the book to us during the rotation, and recommends that we buy it for our own referrence afterwards. In my opinion the book is a well written overview of the common presenting derm complaints. The format is clear, and well thought out.The presentation of each condition includes brief sections on incidence, PE, DDx, Tx, and pathology. The pictures are good. The one weakness is that it could have more pictures.I am very happy with the text, and I am hard to please.I don't give it five stars because I never give anything five stars. It is a great book for med students rotating thru derm, and is even a good reference text for gen'l practitioners. Not sure if I'll shell out the bucks for the book though at this point--I still have to figure out how to pay for tuition, which was just raised by 5% for next (my final!)year. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I aced my derm rotation with this book
I went to med school in a really cut-throat environment and honored the rotation largely from reading this book! The program director even asked me to apply in derm because she liked me so much - can't say I knew that much but this book really has the important info that everyone asks you daily in clinic and the hospital.

4-0 out of 5 stars Blueprints Dermatology Review
This is a great book for a Derm rotation (or any rotation for that matter). It conveniently fits in your coat pocket and has concise and relevant information. Most importantly, it has fantastic pictures to help you identify what you may confront in practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr.Azeem Alam Khan,Consultant Dermatologist,Dammam KSA
It's a cute, small, precise dermatology book I have ever seen. It's front cover is really beautiful.Author has prcisely discussed most of the dermatological disorders. All the photographs are clear and bright.
It is a very practical book, easy to understand and easy to read! I recommend this book to all undergraduates and students preparing for USMLE Step I & II and to all the dermatologists and health practitioners.

2-0 out of 5 stars High price, low yield
I bought this book for my derm rotations, and I can't say the relatively high price is justified. It represents your typical blueprints book...very general info, nothing specific, leaves you wanting more.It fits in your coat pocket, but I can go days without pulling it out to use it.Some of the pictures are good, but there aren't nearly enough, with the vast majority of the conditions going pictureless.

My advice is to pay a little more and purchase the baby Fitzpatrick's color atlas & synopsis of dermatology. It packs a greater punch, has as much (or more) information and way more conditions. ... Read more
