Product Description
The eating habits in America have changed. Americans eat out more frequently, consume larger portions, and eat more foods that bear little resemblance to their natural form. As a result, more Americans than ever are overweight and struggling to find a weight-loss plan that helps them lose those extra pounds.

Low-Carb Dieting For Dummies can help you get your weight under control. By improving the quality of the carbohydrates you eat and by controlling your daily intake of starchy carbs (like breads, pasta, and starchy vegetables), you’ll lose weight and experience many other healthy benefits, including increased energy, improved mood, and better sleeping. The following are all good reasons to follow this book’s low-carb plan:

  • If your personal health history includes the precursors to diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease
  • If you’re concerned about stabilizing your blood sugar levels
  • If you’re tired of the way convenience foods and prepackaged, sugar-laden foods make you feel
  • If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 30 or above

This is not an “eat-all-the-fat-and-protein-you-can-possibly-consume” diet. Instead, it focuses on enjoying whole or unprocessed foods. For example, a sirloin steak is a whole food; a breaded veal cutlet is not. A baked potato is a whole food; potato chips are not. Don’t worry – with help from Low-Carb Dieting For Dummies, low-carb dieting will become second nature to you quickly. Here’s a look at some of the topics in this easy-to-read guide:

    • Understanding the carbohydrate-sugar connection
    • Examining your current diet and lifestyle
    • Knowing which foods you can eat without thinking twice (apples, grapes, carrots, and more!)
    • Trading off your carb choices for an occasional treat
    • Fueling up with fats: Good fats, bad fats
    • Navigating the supermarket and restaurants
    • Taking supplements when food may not be enough
    • Setting yourself up to succeed

Brimming with tips, practical advice, and more than 75 recipes, Low-Carb Dieting For Dummies can help you achieve a healthier weight without feeling deprived – and without having to count every gram of carbohydrate you consume each day. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Healthy Dieting/Eating Lifestyle
So far I've read the first 5 chapters. This book can help a lot of people lose weight, but I think the emphasis is on developing a healthy eating life-style for the rest of your life. If you want a crash diet, this book isn't for you. The author says that very-low carbohydrate diets are not healthy. She has identified green-light, yellow-light, and red-light foods. A person can eat all of the green-light, 5 portions of the yellow-light and a very restricted amount of the red light foods. If you're careful about what you eat, you won't have to count carbs at all. If you want to understand the relationship between foods and your body, I think you will like this book. I really like it.

1-0 out of 5 stars MisTitled - NOT a low carb plan
The author makes so many mistakes as to make this book laughable!I'm NOT a doctor and I know WAY MORE about low carb eating than she.Following the healthy Atkins diet I've gone from a size 18 to an 8 and am healthier than at any point in my life. Don't waste your money on the misinformation in this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars False Advertizing
People picking up this book are looking for the basic rules of low-carb. This book is false advertising.

That is nice that the author has made up her own fresh-foods diet. She should have sold it under a title that reflected the true nature of the diet, NOT low-carb.

It is apparent that the author has NO UNDERSTANDING of true low-carb. As a matter of fact, she takes every opportunity to undermine low-carb.

Kind of like a company that makes their money polluting calling themselves "fresh air".

Low-carb is NOT steak all day, and it is NOT no carb. It is about detoxing our bodies from the deluge of sugar in our environment, and SLOWLY re-introducing more healthy carbs (vegetables and some fruit) into the diet.

Is her diet lower carb than the diet of someone who eats 3 meals a day at McDonald's? Yes. Does it advocate fresh foods? Yes. That is about all it has going for it.

Everyonebuying this expecting a low-carb book should demand their money back!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best low carb book ever
As everyone is stating, this is not a "never eat a carb and lose 30 pounds in 30 days" book.

In that sense I agree with other reviews that the title is a misnomer.

However, the "Whole Foods" diet the book does cover is indeed heavily focused on controlling carb intake and compared to almost anyone's normal diet, it is very "low carb".

I find it very easy to read. Easy to understand. And more focused on healthy eating than any of the "real" low/no-carb books.

As such I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to live a healthy, low-carb diet which, btw, will help you lose weight.

But I would not recommend this book to anyone looking to drop a ton of weight by eating steak all day.

4-0 out of 5 stars For the dieter
It was not what I expected. It is a healthy diet as opposed to some carb diets. It would take longer to loose the weight this way.But it would be a diet that could very easily become a healthy lifestyle. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Diet Book
This is certainly the best diet book I have ever read. Dieting is never easy, not for me anyway. But having the right tools when you begin is essential to losing weight. This book lays out, in simple terms, the process you will need to go through to be successful. The writing is simple, but detailed and very "readable". Most of us have tried many different diets before, and it is always an ongoing endeavor. But this book will give you a much better chance of being successful this time around. After that, it's up to you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dieting for Dummies
I purchased this book for a friend who is going to have gastric bypass surgery. She has read the book and said it was very helpful to her.

4-0 out of 5 stars What is the best diet? Can dieting be bad for you?
Nowadays, there are a lot of diets that claim to be the be-all and the end-all.This book demystifies many popular diets and explains in simple terms what your body needs for you to be healthy.

When I was told I had to lose 30 pounds, I thought of going to a doctor to avoid damaging my health by cutting necessary nutrients out of my intake. Then my own doctor told me the only way to lose weight is to eat less. That and exercise seem to be the key to fitness and weight loss.Anybody with a serious weight problem should see a specialist. And it has often been said that before you begin a diet and /or exercise plan you should see a doctor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good guide to Dieting
Excellent guide to dieting and what you need to eat to lose weight...a lot to read on the topic; however, there are some very helpful tips in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT A SECRET FORMULA
This information in here is not a secret formula. However, it is important information and it is well grounded information that you should put into effect in your life.

If you've read a million diet books, this one is not going to give you surprise information. However, this book is not about propaganda and getting you to buy the latest whacky gadget to bend you in half and flip you over. This book will tell you how and why diets do and don't work.It will tell you what you need to do to be at your best.

What will you get, really good information on how to live your life healthfully. I refer to this book often and I have purchased it and given it to people who are struggling with getting their lives in order. This book simply makes sense, and there isn't anything in here involving hype and gimmicks. I checked this book out from my library first and decided that I wanted this information on hand and so I bought it. This book also talks about eating disorders, the difference between well known diets, different approaches to weight loss. It is more than worth the read. This book will help you find the sanity in dieting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What A Book!
Was very please with item. Arrived on time. The Waterfall Diet book has so much information. I started the diet Monday October 25th. I losted 7.8 pounds in one week! I'm feel great and have more energy.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Waterfall Diet
This book was not helpful to me in anyway. The diet is very difficult to follow and extremely restrictive. The authors also expect that you eat a number of items that might be difficult to find. This is not a diet book that I would pass on to any of my friends that are looking for ways to keep those extra pounds at bay.

4-0 out of 5 stars the waterfall review
i found the book very informative and written in a way that i could understand, not over my head, now i am very aware of what i eat, now it makes sense, thank-you

2-0 out of 5 stars Waterfall diet
I found it hard to understand. It is very much not aimed at American audience and would need some tweaking to be useful.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE BOOK
This book was useless for Americans, all the food in the recipes is unavailable in America or we call it something different. The measurements are in metric and no conversions are provided. There was too much so called medical jargon and nothing to back up their claims. In addition after trying the diet (as close as I could) I actually retained more fluid. Complete waste of money and time to read!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's ok but nothing new
I think this is a very good book for people who have never learned anything at all about calories. It is definitely a good starting point but doesn't share any information that we don't hear every single day about weight loss.

4-0 out of 5 stars VERY low-calorie dieting
The book has excellent information, but I am leary about her plan of 1,000 calories. That is very low. I don't feel anyone should eat any less than 1,200 calories a day. I can see maybe dipping down to 1,000 calories once in a while, but the author wants the reader to do it every day. This could be dangerous. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat Right for your Blood Type
Book came when they said and it was in good shape, i would buy from this person again. The book has a lot a really great info on healthy eating.

4-0 out of 5 stars I really feel that this diet works
I heard about the blood type diet a couple of years ago. My parents let me borrow their copy of Eat Right 4 Your Type and I gave it a try. I am a type O+, pretty common blood type. I cut out a lot of wheat products and grains from my diet, started eating leaner meats and fish and avoided things like pork, corn and lentils.

I feel I had great success with the diet. By cutting these things out (especially the wheat and grain) I had more energy and I trimmed several pounds off my waist. I looked and felt great. Then, I went off the diet for several months. I had an issue with my gall bladder and went on a different diet to cure it. The diet consisted of consuming more lentils and wheat plus a lot of olive oil.

When my gall bladder felt better I stayed off the "eat right for your type wagon", continuing to consume more lentils, beans, wheat and whole grains. Now I have gained several pounds since. I lack energy and I find it's quite a task to shed these pounds I have accumulated. Part of me was skeptical about the diet but now I feel, since going on then back off of it, that it indeed worked for me.

Starting NOW and I going back on my blood type diet. I am throwing away all that whole grain cereal and lentil soup that I have grown to love since my gall bladder problem. Hopefully I have the same results as before.

5-0 out of 5 stars just right for my pocket
Recently got into this and wanted to purchase but couldnnt find for less than $29:99: so. I was ecstatic to find copies available for such a cheap price. It was delivered in 2 days. And condition desecription was so accurate. My mom was so impressed she ordered too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat Right for your type is right on
This book has shed light on what is irritating my blood and I never even knew it. So its been a tremendous help in what I eat eat day and now that I am not going against my body with not eating the things to avoid I feel healthier and I am seeing small changes so far but the main reason I choose this way of eating is to eat as healthy as I can without damaging my body.

5-0 out of 5 stars diet solution book
Fabulous book. The diet is really a life style change. Theory of this plan is easy to understand, makes great sense and has worked for me for years now. I share the book with others because its so workable on a day to day basis. The only "diet" that I think works. ... Read more

    Product Description
Filled with sound advice and effective strategies, a guide to putting the individual in charge of eating and weight--for life--includes recipes and menu plans from leading professionals in the field of carbohydrate addiction. Reissue.Amazon.com Review
If you've been a yo-yo dieter for years or if you can eat apound of pasta at one sitting, this book may very well be an eyeopener. In simple--but never condescending--language, it explains theroots of carbohydrate cravings and teaches you how to normalize yourinsulin levels to prevent future food binges. Regulated insulin levelsin turn help to temper serotonin levels, so food cravings and moodswings are prevented. The authors, both research scientists (one ahealth psychologist, the other a pathologist), have lost and kept offa total of 200 pounds between them. They've based this book on nearlya decade's worth of research, during which they've helped nearly 80percent of their patients lose weight and keep it off for at least ayear.

They explain that carbohydrate addicts most commonly cravepopcorn, breads, bagels, rice, pasta, potatoes, ice cream, chocolate, pie, cookies, crackers, cake, fruit and fruit juice, potato chips, andpretzels. A questionnaire at the beginning of the book determines ifyou're indeed a carbohydrate addict, and if so, to what extent. (Forthose readers whose quiz doesn't indicate addiction, but who arebothered by their food cravings, the authors recommend a doctor'svisit for an explanation.) The book includes a diet plan with dozensof easy recipes, a chart of the carbohydrate content of many commonfoods, and lists of binge triggers to watch for. The most appealingpart of the diet--and one reason that it wins raves from itsfollowers--is its once-a-day reward meal, which allows you to eatanything you want. The authors also offer helpful tips forincorporating the diet away from home, such as at parties andrestaurants. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Carb Addict's Diet Plan
Received the book quickly. Book was in excellent condition. I love this diet plan! I just lost weight on a diet, and was looking for a good maintenance plan...this is it! It's perfect for losing weight & maintaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far.. .wonderful!
I friend recommended this book to me over a year ago. I bought the book, but never got around to reading it until a few weeks ago when she brought it up again. Thinking I had nothing to lose, I read it, and soon felt hope that this could be the eating plan for me. Granted, I've only been on the diet for 5 days, but I already feel better and my cravings are much lower then usual. When I "gave in" one night and decided to have the ice cream at a friend's b-day party (even though I'd already had my reward meal for the day) I didn't have cravings for more sweats or carbs afterward. I'm also able to keep cookies around my room without going nuts because I know I can can a couple as part of my reward meal.

I do miss the ease of being able to go to someplace for lunch, like Subway, and order something without having to ask for this and that. I've had other eating restrictions in the past (I used to avoid all gluten, wheat among other things, and dairy) and I can tell you that it doesn't talk long to get used to asking for your burger wrapped in lettuce instead of on a bun or for for other substitutions to be made.

Personally, I'd say just read the book, take the quiz, and try it if you think you might be a carbohydrate addict. It it a change in the way you probably ate before, but that's the whole point. Some reviews say the diet is too restrictive. To me, saying I can only eat this many calories a day while I battle intense cravings is too restrictive.

Bottom line: the carbohydrate addicts diet has helped me stop thinking about food and what I'm want to eat next all of the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! What a wonderful read
A friend told me I might be INSULIN RESISTANT.The treadmill and I had a daily date for 30 minutes, I was eating a Weight Watchers diet, and still I was gaining weight. What is wrong with this picture? At almost 59, something must change.
As a yo-yo dieter for over 45 years, it is interesting at this point in my life to realize and read thoroughly about what really is wrong with me.I AM A CARBOHYDRATE ADDICT.Tried and true and what a wake-up call!!

Excellent book for us closet compulsive overeaters not ready to admit that there is a big problem.
I loved this diet so much and saw it work within 72 hours (I lost inches before I actually lost any pounds) that I sent my sister, and 2 best friends the book, too.

This diet regulates the insulin released by the body in response to eating carbohydrates. The less insulin released (by eating minimal carbos daily) the better.Cells are able to release fat (energy) and absorb nutrients.Weight loss is the result.
i did not like weighing myself every day if even at all.But it is a must for this program to work for the rest of your life. When I weighed this morning I had gained 3 pounds from yesterday...PANIC set in.
But, on pages 132 to 146 (chapter 7), my panic was appeased in reading that daily fluctuations of weight are normal. That's why you take the average weight from the whole week's weights.Averaging is most scientific and most accurate.Natural past tendencies from other diet crazes such as feeling guilty for eating fun fattening sweet tasty and delicious BAD food are history. This diet lifestyle neutralizes all those BAD foods and compulsive habits.
The Psychological habits are harder to break. It took just one week for my severe sugar cravings to disappear.I actually had to think of other things rather than food (as those food thoughts were really gone).Gone!I physically did not want to snack (but was psychologically so used to reaching out for food that I had to divert my attention to other things-use your imagination). What a wake-up call!!WOW!

Now, after two weeks of eating mostly meat and veggies then a fun (Reward) meal each evening or at lunch, this is something I can truly commit to for the rest of my life. The Reward (of FUN meal as we call it) is the best part of the day.Eat a balanced diet of protein and veggies then enjoy any carbohydrate food you want ...that's right!! ANY CARBO FOOD as long as it all happens within 60-consecutive minutes (one hour).I can now enjoy twinkies, ice cream, chocolate covered raisins, almonds, and pecans, potato chips, rice pudding, baked potato with lots of butter, ranch dressing on salads, and other culinary no-nos on other diets.Once per day for 60 minutes is not a binge it is fun, rewarding, and good for you.
Try this diet as a lifestyle and remember, the next twinkie is only 23 hours away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for dieting!
I saw the book with a friend and decided to order my own. I've been able to lose 11pounds in 3weeks by just eating healthy. I would recommend the book for everyone battling with weight loss.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Misled... Save Your Money!

The authors spend 120 pages explaining their "research" and how this diet works.

They talk about two low-carb meals a day with one "Reward" meal. They lead you to believe that this "Reward" meal can be ANYTHING you want as long as you finish the meal within 60 minutes. They lead you to believe that you can just feast on pizza and beer as long as it's within 60 minutes.

When you get to page 121, the truth will be revealed...
No pizza or other high-carb foods!... The "Reward" meal MUST be a balanced meal with limited carbs.

Well duh!... Without exception, anyone who reduces their "normal" daily carb intake will lose weight!

So don't be misled... If you keep your carb intake low everyday, you will lose weight WITH OR WITHOUT this program. This can be done by simply reading food labels, using a carb counter book for unlabeled foods, and reduce your daily total carb intake (excluding carbs from fiber). In fact, if your going low-carb, you should ingest MORE fiber than the "average" person to avoid constipation and other problems.

Our bodies need SOME carbs to function. So do not go much below 20 grams of carbs per day. But be smart... ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR before making big changes to your diet especially if you are under treatment and taking medications.

    Get Potent and Powerful—
When You Unleash the Power of Instinctual Eating

The Warrior Diet presents a brilliant synthesis of modern scientific research and ancient time-tested secrets for reducing body fat, gaining energy, getting stronger and looking younger.

Our problem, according to Ori Hofmekler, is that we have lost touch with the natural wisdom of our instinctual drives. We have become the slaves of our own creature comforts. The result: ill-advised eating and lifestyle habits that leave us vulnerable to all manner of disease—not to mention unwanted flab, premature wrinkling and a sagging, weak, unattractive body. The first step is to break the chains of our current eating habits. The Warrior Diet proves that humans are at their energetic, physical, mental and passionate best when they "undereat" during the day and "overeat" at night.Once you master this essential eating cycle, a new life of explosive vigor, good looks and vitality will be yours for the taking.

Not just a diet, but a whole way of life, The Warrior Diet encouragesus to seize back the pleasures of being alive—from the most refinedto the wild and raw. The Warrior Diet is practical, tested, and basedin commonsense. Expect results! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good concept...but not too much for women
OK, who don't like to see a buff guy?Who wasn't inspired by the movie 300?I feel the concept, I get the premise.I actually agree, but this book lacked in alot of details for women. It seemed more geared to men, and that's my only beef with it.I truly think it's genius, but it almost seemed like the publishing company was selling the book more than the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it works!
I have been following this way of eating for about 2 years now. I actually bought this book 8 or so years ago, but it wasn't for me at the time. Then I sorta rediscovered the idea and started the diet and now embrace it. I love this way of eating! I hated making breakfast and bringing leftovers to work for lunch.I would much rather snack on fruit and veggies during the day and then eat as much as I want at night.I've lost 90 pounds following this diet and I intend on following this diet for life, it just suites me.All diets work if you follow them, but through all my struggles with dieting throughout my life, the key is finding one that you actually like and can make it your way of life so that you can maintain that weight loss.Maybe this won't be for you, but it sure was for me.I did Atkins in the past, which I loved in a way, but found it hard because I just can't eat meat and eggs for breakfast (yuk personally) and meat and/or salads for lunch (yuk) and I would like to still eat fruit and lose weight, so for me this is the perfect balance - still lower carb but I can enjoy my fruit and yogurt and still lose weight.Typical breakfast: nothing usually, if I'm super hungry maybe a clemintine on the way to work or some blueberries. Morning snack: Stoneyfiled organic yogurt (technically it should be sugar free, but this still works for me).Lunch: some carrots, celery, baby tomatoes with hummus. Then at night I make a lot of lower carb slow cooker stews and eat as much as I want.If I'm hungry I'll grab some almonds or an apple with peanut butter.

5-0 out of 5 stars GUARANTEED TO WORK
ZOINKS!Calm down there "Iron Spazzy"...you're upset because the guy didn't QUANTIFY how much work a hunter/gatherer/Warrior performed on a daily basis???If you really followed the Warrior Diet for a month and had zero results it's for one of two reasons; you were already lean to begin with OR you cheated and are being dishonest with yourself.
I have followed both Diet and Workout Routines from Power lifting and Power eating to Endurance training and dieting AND THIS is my review:
I, along with 6 of my friends (guys and gals), have been on the Warrior Diet for 4 weeks.I'm 6'2'' and started off at a bulky muscular 230 and I have lost 15 pounds of FAT STORES and PADDING!I am more defined than ever before and have NO LOSS OF STRENGTH whatsoever and continue to train hard.My overweight friend, Mike, went from 285 to 240 in a month without any exercise!Every single one of us has become LEANER and MORE DEFINED as a result of this diet plan.I've actually guaranteed a couple of my friends that they will see results within one month or I'll pay for their books and give them an additional $50!!!The truth is...if you are already built like Captain America why the heck are you looking for a diet???!If you aren't and want to be...get this book and GET SOME RESULTS!

1-0 out of 5 stars WHat a load of garbage
This is basically promoting YO-YO dieting which is extremely hard on your body and is a main reason for developing gall stones and digestive disorders. Highly un-recommended!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Where is the Roman Empire now?
I think the author makes a few fundamental Assumptions in this book. These assumptions are as follows:

    1) Everyone comes from a European decent
    2) Everyone is in the Roman army
    3) Everyone can do what Ori does and get the same results as Ori

This is simply wrong and narrow minded. I think the book has no real sense of direction because its simply follows the basis that "what worked for me will work for many."

So the story begins where Ori takes a look at the Diet of the average Roman soldier. They ate beans, they were hungry during the day and ate at night. Before that our ancestors where hunter scavengers so if WE live in THEIR lifestyle in OUR modern age surely we would get the same results, no?

Sorry Ori, times have changed. We no longer have all the nutritious foods, good water, good air that THEY used to have and WE can no longer TRY to live like a caveman in the modern age. Heck, we can't even maintain to eat half the foods he recommends the readers to eat! I bet Roman soldier's did have Miso soup, wait, what? Miso soup??? Hmmmm, its a nice balanced soup that has some important stuff thats good for your body in it so you should eat it too. This is as if to say that "Oh, btw, the Asians eat this stuff and I think its beneficial."

Since not EVERYONE reading the book comes from the same background in all respects (social, genetically, physical, career, etc) not everyone is made the same and not everyone can follow a "Warrior Diet." Why? Well... There are teachers who teach, politicians who do politics, philosophers (like Aristotle) who philosophize all day, artists who paint, musicians to play music, etc. What kind of stuff do they eat? Does the Author want them to ALL eat the SAME things? If that happens the Agricultural economy would be offset and we'd have bunch of Warriors running the society and less thinkers... I think the book's revised name should be something like: "Surely you must be joking, Mr.Holtzberg!" (After the famous Feynman book, of course).

What I found funny was that he suggests the reader to "read while biking as to optimize time." Then I read in other books on exercise that "One should focus all of one's mind on the present activity to pay attention to the muscle groups involved in the exercises to really get to most out of each training session." Some famous man said the following: "Give to Cesar what is Cesar's and give to God what is God's." (Perhaps something from the book of Mathew). The key here is FOCUS. You should never taint the activity of reading with Biking because thats multitasking and the worst of both worlds.

There isn't much on cleansing and fasting in this book either which is important to any real "Warrior." No mention of any Qi-gong or anything of that sort since I guess that sort of stuff isn't for the Manly-man warrior, no, thats probably for those weakly Eastern wimps that came to Europe on Horseback and almost dominant the entire Continent.

Like someone else said on the numerous reviews here, this book is simply not going to work for a whole body-mind approach on Health. But! If you want to look lean and mean to get those beach babes go right ahead and be a knuckle head "Warrior." I am sure when Mr.Holtzberg comes out with another book those "Warriors" can relinquish their money to the fake-Warrior to support his overly-romantic philosophy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How can u rate a book/program without trying it????
My friend had recommended this to me. I took the product and the book AND all of the research that I had done on this to my doctor.I was told that it was safe to do and she wanted to see me once a week to monitor my levels.I went in once a week.At the end of two weeks I had lost 18 pounds and my cholesteral levels had went back to normal. I was at the top of the range for it. Very scary at 34 years old. This is not a quick fix program. You need to be very motivated and self disiplined. If you can make it through the first day you will be fine.It was the only day that I was hungry. The broth helped a lot. There are actually health food stores in my area that sell this product, but it is more expensive than what you can buy it for on the web.TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT IS TO SELL THE PRODUCT, YOU ARE MISTAKEN. BUY IT AND TRY IT.THEN TELL ME IF IT IS JUST A GIMMICK TO SELL PRODUCTS.

3-0 out of 5 stars FULLY READ THE INSTRUCTION SLIP THAT COMES IN THE CAN OF ALMASED!!!
I had noticed ALMASED advertised in some health & nutrition magazines I read. I liked what I read about the product.I finally decided to try it.I just started using it a couple days ago.I was put off by the price and only 10 servings in a can but then I figured it came to roughly 2-3 dollars per serving (meal). I'd be hard pressed to buy or cook a meal for that.I've only started trying out ALMASED and I really like it thus far.I plan to buy the TURBO DIET BOOK, however, I want to remind everyone who posted here, you will find an instruction slip of paper inside the ALMASED can.People should read it completely. They plainly post "WARNING: The Turbo Protein Diet by Dr. Markert."Almased does not recommend the program unless done under the supervision of a doctor. In reading the reviews of this book and those people who "got sick" attempting the TURBO DIET obviously did not read this clear warning by the ALMASED CORPORATION. Those who have difficulty might consider the Almased Bikini plan which is one complete week of Almased meal replacement 3 times a day along with unlimited homemade vegetable broth.
The second week replaces breakfast and dinner with Almasad and a lunch of vegetable, lean meat or fish and salad.I think this plan would be the more intelligent plan to try first and then see how one's results are.It appears to me that only people who know they are in good health and who have had a recent complete physical and who have discussed the TURBO DIET with their MD, should consider doing the TURBO plan. Since I've not yet read the book I am giving it 3 stars. After reading it, I may give it more or less.

3-0 out of 5 stars Works for Some, Not So Good for Others
My parents went on this and it worked great for them. They lost the weight and have kept it off. When I tried it, however, on the second day I was throwing up and couldn't stop even after I had the protein drink, drank some broth. I finally stopped after I had eaten a popsicle. The only thing I can think of is that I am hypoglycemic, and this drink has very low sugar. I hope this helps some people thinking about the diet. Like every type of diet it works great on some, and not so great on others. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A lifestyle diet which is realistic!
I am so glad that I bought this book. After a fast food diet of KFC and Big Macs and with the extra pounds packing on this was just what I needed!

After just one week and I see results: I have lost some weight and I do not feel deprived at all. This diet should be used by everyone who is interested in not only their weight management but also those are interested in living a healthy lifestyle where processed food is a thing of the past. The food can be a bit pricey but if you use your common sense substitutes are easily found.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat like you live in Greece or the Mediteranean
I loved this book.Surprised to not really hear much about it.I found it one day while playing on Amazon and reading reviews. After I read the reviews I immediately bought the book.It is an easy read.Simple and to the point.I have been trying the simple recipies day to day for the past two weeks and love most every one of them.I feel like a gourmet chef but it is so easy.My kids are still a little stand offish about trying radically new stuff but I know in time they will get more and more used to it.I love having a glass of wine now and then and I do find that I simply enjoy the taste and freshness of the food.I highly recommed. We should all shake up our diets and make them tastier and healthier.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a Gem.
The Saint-Tropez is an excellent diet book, or better yet, a way of life.
It's very easy to follow, once you read the book.
The recipes are out of this world! Who thought of cooking spinach with pine nuts and raisins ?There are no rare ingredients, everything is at your grocery store.
This diet combines two nutrients in every meal, omega-3 and foods rich in beta carotene.
Some of the recipes have two parts like "Marinated grilled vegetables", The marinade part for this recipe could be used also as a salad dressing.
Also the recipes are not complicated, they are simple, but different.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healthy and Delicious, too!
I liked this book so much that I purchased extras as gifts for my health-concious foody friends.

The overall philosophy is sound and not extreme, and the recipes I've tried so far are delicious.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reason for lack of appeal to the general public...
... this book is so poorly written, redundant and convoluted. It was an effort to finish it.However a lot of it makes sense and I will follow it's precepts for a while and get back to you as to my results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Lower your cholesterol, triglycerides and lose weight.Great book, teaches you how to eat.Simple easy shopping and cooking.

4-0 out of 5 stars sound science, effective diet
As a physician and also having earned a degree in nutrition in college, I would say this is a promising book. The diet is effective, as me and acquaintances I've refered to this book can attest. The science is very sound, and I suspect it will take about ten years before the nutritional concepts are understood and embraced by the medical profession, although as the author points out, there are many forces working against a successful diet, possibly explaining the little interest from the press in this guide.

The reviewer from Singapore in many ways reflects the confusion over dieting, specifically in defining the value of a 'calorie', which is really a concept derived from physical chemistry, not biophysiology. The author attempts to explain that a 'calorie' in physics (defined by how much heat a food creates upon burning) is quite different from a 'calorie' in nutrition (i.e. how likely it is to store fat).Understandably, this is complex biochemistry not readily accessilbe to laypeople, such as the other reviewer.

What I find intriguing is the similarity in biophysiology to the Atkins diet. Both are effective via the same means:normalization of blood glucose levels and regulation of glucose swings. Both diets attain this process through vastly different means, and both are effective if followed closely (the number one mistake of dieters who fail). That said, this diet is more likely to endure a person's lifelong dietary habits, as eating an Atkins diet becomes very monotanous and restrictive (and constipating).

My weight certainly has a tendency to swing, and this diet is as hard as any in the sense that once you neglect its basic principles you'll gain weight again. Its foundation, however, is really not that difficult to adhere to.

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Make Sense
Different foods convert different percentages of calories into fat.Foods create blood sugar, and for overweight people (only! why?) excess blood sugar turns to fat.Good Calorie foods have a low glycaemic index (they create less blood sugar) and low-to-moderate fat content.Bad Calorie foods have a high glycaemic index.Firstly, why does this only happen to fat people?Apparently fat people's bodies create more fat from the same amount of calories than do thin people's bodies, because of the Starvation Response - when you go on a diet and eat less, the body thinks you're starving, so it turns food into fat for storage in anticipation of no food in the future. What about fat people who *don't* diet?Apparently they eat diets of protein and fat - which is what our Ice Age ancestors ate, when they hunted and had uncertain eating patterns (days of no eating, then killing an animal and feasting on fat/protein) - again making the body think we're in need of more food, thus bulking up on fat.But it's been a few million years, hasn't it?Wouldn't the body have evolved by now?And of course, there's always the `genetic susceptibility' answer.

The second problem for me is - if you eat a lot of food, even GC food, it has to go somewhere. If you eat more than your body needs, the excess *will* be stored as fat ... won't it?While it's definitely true that some foods have more fat calories (think cheesecake :P), in general eating more of any food means putting on more calories. So when Lipetz says that you can eat three times as much lentils as French bread for the same amount of blood sugar created - and thus, he says, fat put on - where do all the calories in the lentils go??

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed My Life
I have to agree with others on their review of this book, it's too bad it doesn't have a better following. This diet changed my life.I lost about 50 pounds three years ago and have had no trouble keeping it off.Cravingsand hunger are a thing of the past.I only wish Mr. Lipetz' web site wascreated as he mentions--I'd like to learn about more foods that have a lowglycemic index.I've also read Naturally Slim and Powerful and TheGlycuose Revolution.Mr. Lipetz' Good Calorie Diet was the best. ... Detox diets are making news as the quickest, easiest way to shed pounds, boost your energy, and get yourself on a wellness track. Popular in the 1970s, cleansing fasts are again all the rage among celebrities like Gisele Bundchen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney, and Madonna.

One of the key advocates of the health benefits of cleansing detoxes is Roni DeLuz, ND, a licensed naturopathic and health practitioner at Martha′s Vineyard Holistic Retreat, part of the renowned Martha′s Vineyard Inn. The idea behind DeLuz′s new detox plan is the belief that the foods we eat (along with the coffee, tea, and alcohol we drink and the air we breathe) contain harmful and toxic substances that accumulate in our bodies and need to be removed in some way. In 21 Pounds in 21 Days, DeLuz offers three different detox programs, including the original and most effective 21-day "MasterFast," which promises a 21-pound weight loss in just three weeks and focuses on detoxification through antioxidants, fasting, stress reduction, and lifestyle changes. Also included in the book are:

    ∗maintenance plans

    ∗dozens of easy, delicious recipes

    ∗real-life tips

    ∗an extensive glossary of terms

    ∗a guide to supplements

Meals consist of supplement-laden drinks, herbal teas, thick, delicious vegetable purees, and "live" juices, along with nutritional supplements, vitamins, and enzymes designed to keep the body′s systems stable and its cells nourished while harmful toxins are flushed out. 21 Pounds in 21 Days isn′t just for those looking to lose weight; everyone can benefit from this revolutionary detox diet that results in a clean, refreshed system that functions at its best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diet is not enough
I'm watching my wife looking at herself in the mirror with contempt. She says she hates her thighs and so on and so she's torturing herself with this diet - which she says is the one that is going to work. Looking at her hating her body made me realize how important it is to love yourself before any diet can actually work. Ok this is not my original thought, I actually stole it from a book I recently read that has nothing to do with my wife: Read Me - I Am Magical: Open Me and I Will Reveal 12 Secrets to Love, Happiness & Personal Power. As You Leaf Through Me See How Remarkable You Feel which says that the body and mind are inextricably linked - that I knew of course - but I never linked this to my wife's dieting obsession. All I want to say is, ladies (and guys), you have to love yourself first the way you are and then your body can feel this love and cooperate in the diet. Find ways to love yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good service

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of wisdom in this cleanse
I am ever grateful to Roni DeLuz for her wisdom, expertise and generosity of spirit.I am on the 20th day of the cleanse, and am extremely pleased that I stumbled across her work.

I have discovered that I do, in fact, have willpower.I thought it had faded with my youth.I have tried for seven years to lose the weight I gained after two children, and I finally did it.I am down 15 pounds, and feel great.I not only lost weight, but also learned a lot in the process about my health and well being.

The cleanse was a good challenge for me.It was difficult at times, and I contemplated quitting on several occasions, but am so glad I have stuck with it.I am an extremely busy person, I teach full time, have 3 school age kids, and have a husband who works full time as well.I found that I had a lot of energy the first four days, and then crashed on days five and six. They were tough. But I muscled my way through.I did have vegan protein shakes on about one third of the days; they helped me feel better on my low days.I also took vegan DHA/EPA and GABA to keep my mood up throughout the cleanse.I did invest in the colonics, and did the coffee enemas, skin brushing, and Epsom salt baths.I had cravings at times, they were intense at first, and then came and went throughout the cleanse. Most of the time they were not too bad.

I bought my products at GNC/Whole Foods/my local coop. On one of the previous Amazon reviews, some kind soul offered a link to a Google group where I found a good shopping list.I suggest using the updated daily schedule from Dr. Roni's website. I did not order any products from her website, so was very grateful when she took the time to email me back with the answer to a question I had.

I highly recommend the book if you are serious about completing an effective cleanse. The poor reviews of this book were written by people who did not try the cleanse, and could not get past the fact that the book could have used some further editing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative but needs for recipes
I purchased this book to help me jump start my cleanse and diet. While it was easy reading (I read it in an afternoon) and very informative I felt it lacked in some areas as well.

This book is informative in that it really teaches you about our foods, how they affect our body and the toxins that we never even knew were there. It also gives you a basis for the Martha's Vineyard diet.

Where it could improve, the book talks about juicing and soups but gives you very limited recipes. No juice recipes and only 2 soups.

I would recommend this book for educational purposes and as a base for anyone to design their own cleanse/diet.

1-0 out of 5 stars (1) colonic per week, NO THANK YOU !!
READ PAGE 163 BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THIS BOOK.
The average person CAN NOT do this detox diet at home.
I would NEVER have purchased this book if I had been given a clue to how complicated and HARD it would be to follow the instructions.
According to page 163, the 21 day detox requires three (3) "colonics", one per week.I quote "Unlike enemas, which you can administer to yourself at home, colonics are administered by professionally trained colon hydrotherapists (colon therapists).

According to author Loren Cordain, modern health and diet problems didn't start with the advent of packaged snack food, but much earlier--back at the dawn of the agricultural age many thousands of years ago. As humans became less nomadic and more dependent on high-carbohydrate diets, we left behind the diet we had evolved with, which is based on low-fat proteins and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Sugars, fats, and carbs were rare, if they were present at all, and survival required a steady, if low-key, level of activity.

Cordain's book The Paleo Diet blends medical research with a healthy sprinkle of individual anecdotes, practical tips, and recipes designed to make his suggestions into a sustainable lifestyle, rather than a simple month-long diet; he even includes cooking recommendations and nationwide sources for wild game.

Claims of improving diseases from diabetes to acne to polycystic ovary disease may be a little overstated, but in general the advice seems sound. Can any of us really go wrong by adding lots more vegetables and fruits to our daily regimen? One recommendation on safe tanning with a gradual reduction in sunscreen is surprising and not much detail is provided for safety issues that can accompany increased sun exposure. Still, Cordain's assertions have helped many people, and could provide exactly the changes you've been looking for to improve your health. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wow! abundant information. i lost 5 lbs in 3 days!
what a great book, the paleo diet has a lot of valuable information. overall the book is worth its price. this book is NOT A DIET! ITS A LIFE CHANGE, and it requires a lot of discipline to avoid the foods you once ate (pizza for me).

1-0 out of 5 stars 30 year lifespan?
Honestly! Yeah, you too can live a whopping THIRTY YEARS if you turn your body into a graveyard by eating dead animals. LOL. Come on! People today are like little kids who just refuse to eat their vegetables and wanna dream up all kinds of excuses not to. Just go vegan and be done with it. Eat veggies and not fake meats and cheeses. Then you most likely will live to be a fit, trim, healthy ONE HUNDRED! Now doesn't that seem like a better deal?

5-0 out of 5 stars Tired of diets? Change your eating habits!
We all are trying to better ourselves and it always seems to come down to diet and exercise. The Paleo Diet is a great way to look at how and what you eat.It is time to forget the last 20 years of fad diets and focus on what your body really needs and how it manages what you eat.Read this book and learn how to change your eating habits.Processed foods are killing all of us.Let's get back to the basics. Fresh produce, fruits, and lean protein. You will be amazed at how much better you feel and the weight loss that occurs naturally.A great read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best "diet" book I ever read
    I HAD been a vegetarian/vegan for 31 years.
After having a major health crisis in the first half of this year, I went through allergy testing. With a CRP of 17.2, my holisic physician wanted me to start eliminating all foods that I reacted to. The testing showed an allergy to most grains, dairy, yeasts, soy and other legumes, nightshades, some nuts, and cabbage. Not much left for a veg to eat, especially protein. I knew I had to change my whole way of eating. I did an extensive search online, and the Paleo diet came up, so thought I would give it a read. This book made so much sense to me. After 2 months following the plan, My CRP is down to 11, and my cholesterol levels have remained perfect.
This plan works! The book is easy to read and everything is explained in laymans terms. This is the best place to start if you are ready to change your way of eating. I will be sharing this book with everyone I know.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life!
After being diagnosed with high blood pressure and dangerously high cholesterol a direct result of being on a mostly Vegan diet I was given the recommendation to read this book. After reading the material I attempted a three month test of the guidelines in order to see if I could prevent taking medication for my new illness and found that every blood level test and blood pressure returned to normal levels. In addition to the lack of illness I lost most of my allergies to grass and hay-fever causing irritants. I also experienced a dramatic change in body composition (body fat loss and muscle gain) and quicker recovery after intense workouts.

    Being Vegan

    Height 6'4"
    Weight 235lbs
    Body Fat 23%

    Being Paleo for 1 year

    Weight 220lbs
    Body Fat 13%

After being on the diet for more than two years now I can happily report that all blood levels are the best they have ever been and that I am playing sports with a renewed vigor that I have not seen since I was a teenager.

Worth the read and a life experiment on the tenets in the book. Also check on out Robb Wolf's book the Paleo Solution just release Sep 2010.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reviewer confusion
I haven't read the book, just want to comment on Reviewer's misunderstanding of phytoestrogens. They bind estrogen receptors and turn them on, but at a much lower rate than the body's estrogen. Since they bind competitively, they in effect turn the estrogen signal down if a woman is high in estrogen. If a woman is menopausal and low in estrogen, they give a little estrogen boost. That's why they are helpful both in PMS and menopause.

2-0 out of 5 stars This Book is Sometimes Confusing and Misleading
I recently lost weight by following a lower carbohydrate diet and
an aerobic exercise program. I then hit a plateau and believed that a diet designed for my specific body type (gynaeoid) would get me back on track to losing weight, however, this book was one big dissapointment and had me hurrying back to "The Protein Power Plan".Dr. Cabot's recommendations for the gynaeoid body type are just too high in carbohydrates and too low in protein. On the one hand she says that the gynaeoid body type is "estrogen dominant" but goes on to advise us to eat soy beans (which are high in phytoestrogens). In one chapter she advises to eat rice, pasta, corn, potatoes (all foods very high in starch) but advises against eating bread!!!I can only comment on the section dealing with my body type, perhaps the diet has worked for others. But what I know for certain is that if I were to follow Dr. Cabot's advice for my body type - it would trigger such a sugar binge that I'd end up where I was several months ago. I simply wasted my money on this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent eating plan -
I chose this book not to lose weight, but to try to get control of uncomfortable bloating and menstrual pain associated with endometriosis and gynecoid body type. I experienced great relief from these symptoms afterabout 3 months on the diet; however, I noticed an increase in energy andstamina, especially during exercise, almost immediately. I am savvy enoughto realize that this may have been due to my increased attention to diet -and not the specific foods I was eating - but the overall experience wasterrific.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for all women.
I was very impressed with her ideas.I am a Thyroid type person and learned that I could help myself feel less stressed by avoiding sugar. Her information is very helpful, but it is difficult to put together the information you need because of how the book is structured. It is worth the work if you are serious about finding a better way. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A bit heavy-handed for me
This book is a reference manual for Tosca Reno's philosophy of life.Like some others, I was a bit put off by all the photos of her, particularly as I started reading the front end of the book.I tried to read the book, but I found it to be a very complicated Users Manual. My family is already on the leading edge of overall health and fitness. We eat very "clean", fresh and colorful, and we all train extensively (swim, bike, run, weights). But one thing I firmly believe is that in order to be truly changed, you must adopt a lifestyle that you can live with for the rest of your life. And I found Tosca's lifestyle to be too demanding, too detailed and too "unusual" - meaning that things aren't readily available in my local grocery or health store. And that statement is coming from someone, as I said, who has already adopted a very very healthy lifestyle. So for me, the book was just too heavy-handed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!
Although eating clean isn't a concept that Reno invented herself, she presents it in very informative easy to follow and read magazine like book. The section of take with you for the day cooler plans are amazing, because most people can't find healthy inexpensive food after you leave to work/school for the day. She also gives you not one but several meal plans and grocery list, including one for families who like mine who are never excited to eat Mom's diet food and Vegetarian options. If you ask any trainer and or nutritionist which I have both, they will tell you that it is in fact true that getting into great shape or maintaining is 80% diet and 20% exercise. Maybe Tosca Reno is over exposed but this is the best all in one fitness book out there. And even better it's no gimmick, it works!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Clean eating
The book has thick colorful pages like a Martha Stewart magazine. The only thing I would have liked better was more pages of info and fewer pages of recipes.Over all, great book with lots of good information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative and Inspirational
If you're just getting informed about eating right...Great book! The lay-out reads alot like a magazinge and the way Tosca writes is super inspirational backed by great information. There are real life applications to the eat-clean diet and plenty of testimonys. She breaks down the eat-clean diet into an easy to understand plan and realistic way of life. There are also options for vegetarians! Definitely a great reference book; also has a section of easy to prep recipes. The one thing, if any, that I would have liked more of was the cellulite section. There wasn't that much info on how to get rid of the "giggily bits" but then again there is no cure all for it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple but transforming
I read the eat clean book last January, I was tired of being sick all the time and knew something needed to change. This book was transforming. My husband and I have followed this simple "diet" actually life style change. I have lost 30lbs and am off my bp medications, my husband has lose 15 lbs. It has changed our lives. It is simple just eat food in its natural state, eat troughout the day, and encorporate exercise, and see the amazing results. Thanks Tosca for a simple but imformative book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars What have you got to lose.
This book is the juice. Robb Wolf is hilarious and rational. Check out his podcast on itunes. Also very dope.
Honestly, why bother criticizing this book? Don't eat grains, legumes, dairy.....eat good meats and up your servings of vegetables. Who is going to argue with that?

Anyways, I suggest doing some research on the paleo diet before reading this book, and maybe familiarize yourself with an episode or two of the podcast to prep yourself for Robb's writing style. Otherwise this book is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Robb Wolf for President
The Paleo Solution is a true work of art.Robb Wolf is extremely knowledgable and shares his information in a funny way. If everyone ate Paleo, there would be no health care crisis, nor diabetic or autoimmune epidemics. Must Read if you want to improve the way you look, feel and perform.

5-0 out of 5 stars a must read!!!
If you will read one book this year make it this one. It will change the way you look and feel. The paleo lifestyle is the best way to live.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's "Heroin," not "Heroine"

    Proofreading
    An index
    Better organization
A better discussion of the non-dangers of saturated fat from whole foods
A better, more nuanced discussion of dairy (dairy products can be good OR bad for health, depending) and alcohol
Either expansion of, or elimination of, the section on exercise

    Product Description

In The Kind Diet, actress, activist, and committed conservationist Alicia Silverstone shares the insights that encouraged her to swear off meat and dairy forever, and outlines the spectacular benefits of adopting a plant-based diet, from effortless weight loss to clear skin, off-the-chart energy, and smooth digestion. She explains how meat, fish, milk, and cheese—the very foods we’ve been taught to regard as the cornerstone of good nutrition—are actually the culprits behind escalating rates of disease and the cause of dire, potentially permanent damage to our ecology.

Yet going meat- and dairy-free doesn’t mean suffering deprivation; to the contrary, The Kind Diet introduces irresistibly delicious food that satisfies on every level—it even includes amazing desserts to keep the most stubborn sweet tooth happy. Alicia also addresses the nutritional concerns faced by many who are new to a plant-based diet, and shows how to cover every nutritional base, from protein to calcium and beyond.

Alicia knows that changing life-long dietary habits is a process, and that each person progresses at a different pace. For that reason, The Kind Diet encompasses 3 separate levels, from Flirting to Superhero. Flirts learn to dip a toe into the vegan pool, reducing their meat-eating and swapping out a few key foods for plant-based substitutes to see quickly how even small changes can reap big results. Vegans get to experience the life-altering effects of forgoing animal-products entirely, while still enjoying many convenience foods and meat substitutes in addition to the wonderful grains, vegetables and fruits that form the core of that diet. True enlightenment comes with the Superhero program, based on the principles of macrobiotics and built on a foundation of whole grains, vegetables, and other yummy foods that Alicia describes in detail.

Whether your goal is to drop a few pounds, boost your energy and metabolism, or simply save the world, Alicia provides the encouragement, the information, and the tools you need to make the transition to a plant-based diet deliciously empowering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of The Kind Diet
Alicia's book is a must read for anyone who cares about him/herself and the planet.I first fell in love with this style of living when I read The Greatest Diet On Earth by Karen Curinga The Greatest Diet on Earth. It is great to see that another equally inspiring book is out there for those of us who care and want to take control of our health and lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Alicia
After I read my library copy, I ordered The Kind Diet for my 22-year old daughter.Alicia has a way of reaching out to young and old without being preachy.I've tried a number of her recipes and was amazed by how much I enjoyed them.If you're flirting with changing your food choices, this book will give you the reasons and the recipes to make it happen.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Kind Diet"
Having recently adopted a primarily, "plant-based diet", I am interested in finding cookbooks that support and inspire me. "The Kind Diet" has been very instrumental in helping me on this journey. I have found many recipes and hints that have made my transition very exciting and enjoyable!

There is one recipe that I question, and I wonder if there might be an error. The brownies definitely had too much leavening agent and I had to toss them - I will likely try them again with a modified amount of baking powder. I like most of the recommendations and appreciate the recommended brands for certain items - like cheese.

I recommend this book for anyone embarking upon a plant-based diet. And, I recommend a plant-based diet !!! I have had a fun-filled adventure! I have lost weight and cut my weekly grocery bill by 2/3's! I haven't had my blood work yet, but I anticipate that my blood stats have improved. I can now afford to buy mostly organic fruits and vegetables. I believe that I am protecting my body from many unhealthy chemicals with this diet - that includes GMOs, hormones, pesticides, additives, etc. !!! This diet is great for the planet, too !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
I ordered this book thinking I could just use some healthy recipes mixed in with my usual recipes I use.I was surprised to find that the book actually changed the way I think about eating.I love how she includes research and doctors that have hard evidence what our food is doing to our bodies.I had no clue what was going on with the food I buy at the grocery store.I have been on the Kind Diet for two weeks now and I've never felt more alive in my life.I was surprised that I was able to lose weight fast in the process. At first my body was acting weird and I was kinda worried, but then I got to a chapter in her book that addressed the body detoxing and what happens during then.I'm amazed about all the information she had provided. To be honest.....her recipes weren't too appealing to me, but thanks to the internet I was able to find all sorts of amazing recipes.I think the first half of the book and all the information it has is worth buying the book.

Thank you Alicia.....you have changed my life!

2-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
My doctor recommended this book in a vain hope of getting me to change my eating habits. Not a good investment. It takes 5 chapters to get to the central idea which is - only eat when you are hungry. The rest of the book simply restates this bit of wisdom in different ways over and over again. So here is my recommendation - "Don't eat when you are not hungry". There I saved you 10 dollars!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Freedom from the diet roller coaster!
In this book "Diets Still Don't Work" Bob Schwartz, PHD
teaches you why diets dont work, what the diet mentality is, why you
may not be able to keep weight off and more. You complete a number of
written exercises. These are designed to help you realize the reasons
you have excess weight and your attitudes towards eating. As you
progress through the book you learn the habits of naturally slim
people and how you can mimic these behaviors so they become second
nature and you too will be naturally slim! By the end of the book you
have a list of goals to accomplish other than focusing on weight, know
how to naturally lose weight and keep it off and decide if you are
ready to make the commitment. This book published in 1990 is the
sequel to Bob's original book "Diets Don't Work".Bob has
since updated and revised the "Diet's Don't Work" book
(published 1996). Both books cover essentially the same information
with only slight variation. I recommend reading one or the other to
help you get off the diet roller coaster!

Book Review: The Inside Out Diet by Cathy Wong, ND, CNS

Dr. Cathy Wong, naturopathic doctor and nutritionist with ten years of research, clinical, and research experience in alternative medicine, has written The Inside Out Diet. She also is a featured contributor in Woman's Day, Woman's World, Body+Soul, and other publications. Notably, Dr. Wong is the guide to Alternative Medicine at About.com where her weekly newsletter is read by almost 100,000 readers.

Why begin on the inside? Dr. Wong's diet starts with her own experience. As a university student, she ate poorly, eating quick foods and gaining weight. At age 24 she was informed that her cholesterol was borderline high; the following day she began her liver-cleansing diet. Her health and energy rejuvenated quickly. Dr. Wong improved her life from the inside-out, beginning with her liver.

Why the liver? The liver is a prominent organ that performs several functions. Dr. Wong states that it regulates blood sugar, makes and burns fat, helps you absorb omega fatty acids, regulates cholesterol, balances key weight-loss hormones, helps maintain muscle tone, and gets rid of fattening toxins. A healthy, clean liver is essential to natural weight loss, total body health, and radiance.

Four weeks are taken in three components: the first is a simple gentle detoxification of the liver, the second involves tackling ongoing weight loss, the third strides onward with maintenance of an established weight.

Highlights from The Inside Out Diet:

"Helps you lose weight safely, continuously, and permanently
Improves liver function and decreases fatty liver
    Restores insulin and leptin sensitivity
    Improves cholesterol and triglyceride levels
    Eliminates unhealthy cravings
Decreases risk factors for heart disease
    Re-establishes hormonal balance
    Improves overall health"

Dr. Wong also addresses supplements, exercise, relaxation, sleep, a healthy home, cleansing the colon, checking for food intolerances, and the risks and hazards of diets. It is a realistic approach that works with the American diet.

The recipes, more than fifty, were provided by celebrity chef Sabra Ricci, who is known for her delicious menus and clientele. She too has been a contributor to Woman's Day, Self, and Spa magazines. Her monthly column appears at AOL Living. The recipes range from breakfast to dessert and are very appetizing, samples--Southwestern Egg Cups, Lamb Curry, Lemon Cream with Raspberries, Blueberry Granola Crisp.

The Inside Out Diet, with a beautiful green cover and orchid photo, is well worth reading. Dr. Wong doesn't just tell the reader to lose weight, but explains how and why. Most importantly, she's focused on the liver, defining its necessity for weight loss and health.
Open up the book and read it from the inside out.

It's not what I thought it would be.I just didn't like it.But others may.

1-0 out of 5 stars Finally, it's here!
I ordered this book 4 days ago, and tracked my order yesterday. It said I was suppose to get it tomorrow, then I checked it again today and now it says I will be getting it in 9-13 days. I called Amazon and they are telling me I will be getting it on 9/10/08, that is 13 days excluding weekends and holidays.

I have ordered other products before and have gotten them on time or earlier on the date that they had on the tracking info. This is the first time they will take twice as long. Disappointed! I pray that it comes sooner.

The customer service people are from India and because I am hard-of-hearing, it was EXTREMELY difficult and frustrating for me to understand them. They started shouting and I cannot understand people shouting. I sense they were mocking me and I know they were not. They do not understand deaf or hard-of-hearing people because their comprehension and enunciation was very poor. It took twice as long to understand each other.

Today (9/5/08) I checked my mail and called USPS about my package, it is still SITTING in Coffeyville, KS they do not have a clue why it is. I did call Amazon to notify them. I did worked for USPS (20 years, retired now) and I am embarrassed by them that they could not give me a better explanation.I also told them that UPS(United Parcel Service)have given good delivery services using the FREE Super Saver Shipping, my packages were delivered on time or earlier. Why did they change delivery services for the FREE Super Saver Shipping? I am stupefied. USPS has always been slow moving. Amazon is telling me to use the paid services (UPS) to deliver faster. What! (fake) Hahahaha!

I want to rate the book with 4 STARS.After several weeks of waiting for the book to finally arrive. (October 11, 2008) I started reading the book immediately, it's pretty much the lifestyle I adopted to due to some medical conditions I have.I like the recipes very much and I tried the menu plans, too.I started using the recipes and they are good. There are a few ingredients that were hard to find, I found them at Whole Foods market here in Arizona.

My health has improved a lot.I was able to decrease one of my diabetes medications and my blood sugars have been completely under control 24/7.In fact, I might have to drop one or two soon.My RA also has changed, even though I haven't really had pain but occasionally, I don't experience pain anymore. The fatigue from RA is a lot less, I may have it once a week instead of every day.And I'm losing weight healthfully and normally slow (2-3 lbs/wk).
