Product Description

In this era of fad diets, detox programs, and "superfoods," this examination of the relationship between diet and lifestyle looks to the Far East to claim that the simple principles to live by are balance and moderation. By rebuilding the connections between what is put into the body and how it functions, the diet outlined in this book teaches the daily effects that particular food choices will have—on bodyweight, energy, mood, and the quality and duration of life—and that ultimately all foods are good in the right proportion. All major food groups are covered, with additional sections on dietary supplements, lifestyle, and attitude, plus a handful of recipes to demonstrate the principles of the diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Asian Diet
Recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and arthritis, I was looking for alternative ways of preserving my health besides the usual 'pop a pill' syndrome this country offers.I'm aware of the longevity along with productivity that the Asian culture has been blessed with and find this book to be very beneficial in my recovery.Using food as my medicine I'm overcoming what ails me and enjoying the flavors, aromas and textures of cooking the Asian way.It just makes simple sense!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great intro to Asian dietary concepts
I have read the book "The Tao of Healthy Eating," and lost about >30 lbs gradually over the past year following principles of the Asian diet.I am of Asian descent, so it wasn't very difficult. When an assistant at work wanted to know about my diet, I looked for a book that was easy to read and understand for someone who didn't grow up with the Asian diet, and didn't already understand the concepts of hot/cooling foods, damp, qi, etc.I found this book and read it myself before recommending it to her and my patients.I found this book a quick and easy read.It serves as a very nice intro to Asian dietary therapy.I'd suggest reading"The Tao of Healthy Eating" and "Healing with Whole Foods" for more detail.

1-0 out of 5 stars 0 stars, poorly sourced info, not well written, not healthcare practitioner recommended
Perhaps, i was looking for more of an academic approach. This book gives opinions and alludes to information that is poorly sourced, and kind of, well, "duh." It also lacks evidence aside from the "thousands of years of Asian...blah blah blah," which only serves to mystify and fetishize Asian culture--I am reminded of that Calgon commercial from the 70's, you know "How do you get your shirts so clean Mr. Lee? Ancient Chinese secret." The author should really read Said's Orientalism (while it's centered on the mid-east, the concepts still do apply to the far east).

Fortunately, i borrowed it from a colleague to peruse. Not even good bathroom reading. We both rolled our eyes. Not well researched, and full of anecdotes, and written in a "folksy" sort of tone. Amazon's editorial review is written far better than this book.

Probably mediocre at best for a lay person to read, and possibly follow, but most definitely not anything a practitioner would source as a dietary information, or even recommend for as information for a patient/client.

Hopefully the author will eventually learn how to better research, source, and synthesize information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Enlightening!
Jason Bussell obviously knows of what he writes. This book is informative not just for physical health but for spiritual health as well. Though very well researched and documented, it's written in a practical manner that makes it a wonderfully easy, enjoyable, and educational read. I've already bought two more as gifts for friends!

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and informative
This is a great book! Since I've read it I have noticed myself consciously thinking about the level of "processed" of food I'm putting in my mouth and trying to eat healthier proportions of rice, cooked veggies and meat. The index of foods and their properties is interesting. ... Read more

Product Description
An introduction to the healing effects of fasting using just one type of food

• Includes Johanna Brandt’s grape cure with the author’s advice and commentary

• Explains why mono diets are so effective at cleansing and restoring the internal cellular environment

• Shows how to interpret your body’s signals to adapt the diet to your unique needs

The grape cure, the lemon cure, the maple syrup cure, and the apple diet are all variations of mono diets that are based on restricting food intake to one food for a period of time. Using the famous grape cure pioneered by Johanna Brandt as his model (reproduced here in its entirety), Christopher Vasey demonstrates why these restricted diets are all remarkably effective in healing illness and restoring optimum health. Despite their different nutritive approaches and resulting healing benefits, all these diets work the same way: They help the body “burn” the waste products it contains to cleanse the internal cellular environment. They also keep the body’s eliminatory organs open in order to prevent the buildup of toxins. While these cures are responsible for healing people of many serious illnesses, including cancer, their principal use lies in the way they naturally eliminate waste products and prevent the body from absorbing toxins during the process.

The Detox Mono Diet is a practical guide that provides all the information necessary for following a detoxification regimen. To make the application most successful, the author explains how to interpret your body’s reactions in a way that will allow you to adapt the cure to match your specific physiological needs, making your return to optimum health a unique journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and easy to follow
I was not into fasting until I came across "The detox mono-diet, the miracle grape cure and other cleansing diets by Christopher Vasey, and soon my fridge became home to over 15 pounds of organic grapes. Now began a minute scrutiny of the book so that I could find out firsthand what this book and the fasting regimen is all about.

Part I of the book explains the nature of illness and the role of toxins. This is followed by an introduction to the grape cure as perfected by Johanna Brandt. There is a neat summary of the steps involved in the cure, namely, elimination, fasting, role of the grapes, raw diet, and finally, hypo-toxic diet.

The physiology of fasting is explained on the basis of autolysis. When food is withheld completely, the body resorts to autolysis and extracts nutrition from the non-essential reserves like tumors, ulcers, fatty deposits, as well as toxins. Once these resources are depleted, the body will look to digesting the vital tissues and organs, but that is an extreme measure taken only when there is total and prolonged starvation. Fasting is recommended until there is a true need to eat instead of just the desire. The importance of consuming sufficient quantities of water is mentioned clearly.

During fasting autolysis and the regeneration of healthy tissue go on simultaneously. There are recommendations for assisting the various excretory organs with their function, for example, enemas for the digestive system, various herbs for the liver, kidneys and the lungs and sauna / hot baths for the skin. The more accumulated wastes in the body, the more there is a possibility of healing crises like skin rash, oozing pimple, rheumatic pains, eczemas, bronchitis and catarrh that may last from a few hours to a few days but must not be suppressed or feared. The cleansing practices must be continued throughout the fasting and into the next phases.

Now comes the mono-diet in which all foods except grapes are excluded. The physiological process of autolysis, assimilation of nutrients for tissue regeneration and elimination of toxic wastes that have been set in motion during fasting are simply carried on further for the entire period of the grape mono-diet.

In my experience, grapes do satisfy hunger so there are no pathetic dips in energy level and enthusiasm. During a period of one day of fasting followed by five days on grape mono-diet, I was able to carry on with all my usual household chores, shoveling snow, studies requiring sustained mental focus, daily exercise and yoga, plus two hour-long sessions of weight training, all without feeling week, wasted or worried. On the contrary, I felt strong, well, free, full of purpose and accomplishment and had tons of time on my hand.

After a few days on the grape mono-diet (length varies from person to person) it is time to switch to a regimen in which grapes are still the main meal but other fruits, and then milk, buttermilk and cottage cheese are included. Then comes the fourth phase of raw food diet. A chapter gives the benefits and disadvantages of raw food diet as well as a regimen to follow.

A gradual introduction to mixed, hypo-toxic diet makes the fifth and the final phase of this practice. The stress is on eating small quantities of healthy food so that the body is able to maintain the de-toxified state.

The personal experience and observations of Johanna Brandt given in part II of the book are fascinating and they open the reader's eyes to the fact that for health, what you don't eat is as important as what you eat.

Anyone contemplating a grape mono-diet must read the chapter six diligently and learn all the indications / contra-indications for the mono-diet. Johanna Brandt was able to cure herself of cancer using the grape cure and she gives a list of other illnesses that can be treated but the grape mono-diet is a serious therapeutic regimen. Even though the process appears to be simple, for people with any illness, it is best to have clinical supervision from a health practitioner who is familiar with the grape mono-diet.

Jon Graham has skillfully translated this book from French. It is brief and easy to read. All benefits and pitfalls of the system are brought out quite well. Enough warnings are given so that no one tries a foolhardy experiment. The wise and informative approach of the author is apparent throughout the book. I strongly recommend not only this book but also the system of grape mono-diet to all seekers of health.

Product Description
Eat good food, drink a little wine, lose weight! Sounds too good to be true? Not with The Wine and Food Lover's Diet. Created by a sports doctor with a background in nutrition, this is a diet that combines healthful eating with a love of eating. Imagine a meal of bacon-topped arugula salad, pecan-crusted chicken paired with the perfect glass of wine, and closing with chocolate soufflé or some ice cream and a cup of coffee—and then, even better, looking at the decrease on the scales the next morning. Dr. Phillip Tirman's 28-day plan sheds the pounds and the diet angst. He knows that most diets fail because they're based on restricting the foods everyone loves the most and they're impractical for today's busy lifestyles. So he has developed a lifetime eating plan based on satisfaction, not deprivation. The key to feeling slimmer and healthier? It's the surefire combo that is the foundation of the diet: one protein + two low-glycemic carbs = success. Using this formula, Dr. Tirman has created a menu plan to jump-start weight loss. He clearly and simply describes why high-glycemic carbs promote weight gain, while low-glycemic carbs do the opposite. Included are handy lists of beneficial Savvy Carbs and Super Savvy Carbs, which make it easy to tailor the diet to anyone's tastes—plus 100 really delicious recipes with wine pairing suggestions, illustrated in full color. There's also clear advice for choosing take-out foods, for selecting diet-friendly restaurant dishes, and for using the diet to lose weight or simply to keep off the pounds already lost. The Wine and Food Lover's Diet is the ultimate key to a healthier, fuller, longer, and more satisfying life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Food & Wine Lovers Diet Cookbook
I love this cookbook.Great recipes that are easy to follow plus pictures to tempt me.Ingredients are readily available, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good recipes
Recipes are easy to follow and taste good. Many of them are relatively quick, although they sometimes use less-commonly found ingredients.I've made about 6-7 recipes so far, and would make all except one again.

The scientific information he gives is really interesting and has gotten me thinking about foods and carbs in a new way.

5-0 out of 5 stars My fave low carb cookbook!!!
While this book is labelled as a diet, its the recipes in this book that make it truly shine. I tagged 41 recipes as "must try" on first read!

The diet can be summarised as combining a high protein main with one or two "savvy", low GI carb dishes and a glass of wine with dinner.

The first section (one third of the book) explains the diet, backs it up with science and is an entertaining read. It's followed by a 7 page meal planning section which initially I skipped as I like to pick my own meals. But I reread it and it has useful menu building and wine selection advice.

The second section is what I bought the book for - the recipes. Highlights for me were:
- interesting side dishes. Not difficult but the sort of sides you'd get at a good modern restaurant (like saffron braised leeks)
- well laid out recipes with a nice introduction and good photos (1 page per recipe, with around 1 in 10 having photos)
- techniques you can apply to normal recipes, like removing carbs from souffles and roux's

The only things I dislike about this book is the lack of nutritional info on the recipes and not having photos for all recipes - minor quibbles I can figure out for myself.

This book is unashamedly written for foodies like me. I love it and hope they bring out a second with more recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lady Chef
I absolutely loved this book! And if you love a good recipe to go along with your wine, you will too. This book is full of wonderful recipes that were easy to follow and fun to make. Not to mention healthy and delicious!I love to cook, and my kitchen is already well stocked with the latest cooking gadgets, and my refrigerator full of the fresh ingredients that these recipes call for. However, the biggest bonus is that I lost ten pounds in the first two weeks of following the eating plan. For those who don't know how to cook or dont like to, I suggest you learn how, just to be able to try out these wonderful dishes. The effort will be worth it.

Great eating plan for those that want to melt away the pounds. It is a little hard at times to figure out the menu.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart common sense diet plan.
This book is based on the idea that when we are in low blood sugar we have strong cravings that control us. By eating healthy food in more frequent intervals you can be feeding your cells slowly throughout the day and thus eliminate those uncontrollable cravings for sugar and carbs and high fat food. It makes so much sense and really does work if you can also tackle what Adele Puhn calls "the fat head" which are our individual underlying issues that cause each of us to eat when we're stressed. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cabbage Soup Diet
I think that this diet is one of the best things to ever happen! I loved the book and the diet too! Be careful because the diet is not something that you should continue for a long time. In fact it is more of a cleanse than a diet. But, I happen to have lost 15 lbs on the diet myself... so I am a believer.

Not much has changed from the original diet. You might be able to stay on it for a week and loose some water pounds, but you will not be able to survive on this one. Look for something else if you want to loose weight that will stay off.

One diet does NOT fit all!

    Amazon.com Review
"Losing weight is as easy as finding your body type," asserts Carolyn Mein on the cover of her coffee-table-size diet book. Based on 20 years of research as an applied kinesiologist and bionutritionist, Mein concludes that each human is born with a dominant gland, organ, or system that corresponds to one of 25 specific body types. She also believes each body type manifests itself in unique physical characteristics and psychological traits. Here, Mein attempts to help readers identify their own body type, understand its specific needs (according to her empirical research), and implement a diet tailored to meeting those needs.

Opening and scanning the book proves great fun, especially for those who love delving into parallel studies like astrology or numerology. Trouble is, the task of accurately identifying a body type is easier said than done. As readers peruse hundreds of black-and-white photos of scantily clad adult bodies, "unique" doesn't always look so unique--even with help from the corresponding personality profiles. So, while Mein earnestly strives to offer a solution to the one-diet-fits-all myth, her own theory begs the question: Are we all so predictable and categorical? The flip side, of course, is that anyone who finds a perfect match of physical and psychological traits (for instance, an "Adrenal Female" who has a solid boyish figure, thrives on excitement, is competitive and ever in charge) will receive very specific marching orders from Dr. Mein. To each body type, she dedicates about six pages of notes, including a lengthy personality profile, guidelines for dietary intake, healthy and unhealthy foods, ideal meal scheduling, and a sample one-week menu. --Liane Thomas ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Answer
Different Bodies Different Diets answers ALL the questions regarding the physical and psychological make-up of the body--according to each one's individual body type! It then goes on to put you on the path to not just eating the foods that will help you to lose weight, but also which foods strengthen your specific body type, which foods stress your specific body type, etc. This book is also unique in that it pin-points your individual psychological make-up--at its worst and best--which helps you to see who you are and what makes you tick. The suggested food plans then work in harmony with your psychological make-up to help you to be the best person you can be--feeling good both inside and out! I cannot express how helpful this book is. My entire family is excited about this book. Second only to the Bible, this book helps you to get to know yourself, and make improvements both physically and psychologically! This book PROVES all diets are not for everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
Learning my body type and adapting my eating patterns to Dr. Mein's recommendations had immediate results for me.I found that carbs and proteins at lunch works better for me than salads for instance.Following these kinds of suggestions has given me more consistent energy and mental focus throughout the day, and I feel about 10 years younger.I didn't have to give up things I love, this is not a hard diet plan to follow at all.Another bonus from the book that's not mentioned much is the personality typing.Dr. Mein described my personality to a "t", which helped me understand myself that much better.I strongly recommend this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun in the beginning - frustrated in the end
I like to think out of the box and went for this book because I truly believe that diets or ways of eating (WOE) are unique for different people.I've read books on metabolism types, endormorph, ectomorphs, mesomorphs, and Dr. Abram..Body Type Book, been on different diets yada, yada.

I wanted to pinpoint what exactly my body type was but was quickly frustrated as my body fit 6 or 7 types and my personality is a compondent of about 6 types. My husband agrees.I've ordered the "detailed" questionaire and the booklet on muscle testing after sending 2 emails for help - but no answer after waiting 3 days.I hope I'm not in for another disappointment.I've also registered for the website message board but I am the only member it's showing and I can't read the threads from 2007 which is the latest.

Throwing good money after bad... I hope not.If I get direction as to what TYPE I am and I use the diet and it works, I'll be back for a better review. So far, all I can say is that it's interesting and fun in the beginning but it's frustating when you come to a brick wall and the descriptions of where you gain weight fits 6 body types and the personality descriptions fit 7 body types.I think you've got the idea.

3-0 out of 5 stars Complicated
As with others I found this book difficult to follow and much prefer Dr. Abravanel's "Body Type Diet" in which one only deals with 4 distinct body types and a lot more guidance in the diet/exercise sections. However, having decided my body type through Abravanel, I found Mein's book to be great supplemental reading. And I am a firm believer that most of us are combinations of types - dominant and subdominant...............so that one needs to really get to know oneself to categorize and sort out what will work best.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont bother
Very confusing book. Found it difficult to find my "type". None of the types matched me and the personality traits were not me at all if the body type remotely fit me. I couldnt decide what type i was at all. The menus were somewhat constrictive unless you can live on nuts and beans for some. Basically if you follow a healthy eating plan with excersize you will lose weight no matter what "type" you may be. WELL, duh. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FInally something that makes sense
when you think about the fact that the diet industry pulls in around $60 billion a year world wide, do you really think they want us to achieve life long weight loss?no, or they'd be out of business.diets don't work because when we stop dieting, we go back to eating incorrectly, and we re-gain the weight (usually plus some), and diets will screw up the metabolism compounding the problem.Diets teach our bodies to store fat more efficiently. It has nothing to do with what we eat, and everything to do with how and when we eat.as this book, and others like it explains.if we eat when our body has not signaled that it needs food/fuel, it will store it as fat.whether its pizza, or an apple.diets put a temporary band-aid on the symptom, they DO NOT treat the disease.this book teaches how to eat correctly, by listening to our bodies.and it works.I'm living proof.

5-0 out of 5 stars Original fan and believer
I took Bob's all day seminar on Diet's Don't Work back in the early 80's, and was also fortunate to be in one of the first followup classes he offered weekly for 3 months afterward, which was invaluable. I am still a firm believer to this day after almost 20 years have past, of Bob's approach. While I will admit, I have yet to achieve my weight goals, the one VERY important life alteringpiece that I experienced and has made a huge difference for me, is the RELIEF OF GUILT. Guilt is so counter- productive and I believe as damaging to our weight gain/loss as any food we consume. I strongly recommend this book to ALL before ever embarking on a diet again, THEY DON'T WORK!!!!!!! To this day, I still tell people about my experience and recommend Bob's teachings even if they should still believe dieting is their answer, you owe it to yourself to expose his approach and information as well. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and am currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Amazingly, in my experience thus far, the chemo not only has changed my appetite, but in doing so has renewed my bodies basic food needs. It is 100% true that your body not only knows what it needs, but especially during this time tells you loud and clear. While I do not wish my circumstances on anyone, it certainly has reminded me and brought me back to Bob's teachings. I lent my original book out many years ago to friend, of whom never returned it, so am repurchasing again to renew & refresh myself once again to all it offers.

    3-0 out of 5 stars A start
I got this book when it came out in the middle 80's (at 24 yrs. of age) and even paid a lot of money to go through the training that they did at the time and I did have a breakthrough during it: I stayed heavy partly because I did not want to look better then my mother. I worked through that by talking to her about it.I had other various insights in the book. Get it if you are new to all this and need to learn the basics. Also Geneen Roth's books are good for this. But with this book and the training sessions, I was stuck. It didn't help me in the moment and I did not loose weight.Soon after, I picked up a book about "breaking habits" (I don't even know if it is in print still) and it spoke of keeping a log to help IN THE MOMENT to see what's going on in your head and make you aware of the habit (whether is was fingernail biting or eating or smoking).I made up my own log, using the stuff in this book and Geneen's, with headings such as "eating while seated?", "conscious?", "put fork down?". I also gave myself points for each "yes" answer and a "reward" planned for a certain number of points.Three months later I had taken off 40 lbs. and have always been in a 5 to 12 lbs. range from there (until recently - middle age is slowing my metabolism way down). I had always been a naturally thin eater as a child, all the way until High School. My mother never talked about her weight or dieted (even though she was about 5 to 10 lbs. overweight), for which I am very grateful. Then I went on diets with friends (I put on a very necessary 5 lbs. at menstration) and that did it - more and more weight gain with each diet.I had always planned on writing about my experience.God helped me a lot in ways that are mindblowing and I will always be thankful to Him. I have found a book that is the closest to what I would have written if I had the time to do it - it is called NORMAL EATING FOR NORMAL WEIGHT and is here on Amazon. It explains it all step by step on how to do it, eat like a thin person, IN THE MOMENT, and most importantly - stop emotional overeating. I'm going to do a review for it also. This book is good to get you out of the "diet mindset" with lots of humor and commom sense, then move on to NORMAL EATING FOR NORMAL WEIGHT.

3-0 out of 5 stars good concepts but insubstantial
This book was recommended to me after I practically memorized "Intuitive Eating" by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. I agree strongly with the premise of this book, that restrictive dieting will wreck your body and life, but the book itself is half full of lined pages (for doing the journal exercises) and not very much substantial argument / explanation. The exercises might be helpful to you if this is your first exposure to the idea of non-dieting, but the style of the book is very unsophisticated, gimmicky self-help; "naturally thin" is italicized wherever it appears in the text.I found it very off-putting.I really recommend reading Intuitive Eating instead of Diets Don't Work -- much longer and much better discussion, much more helpful.

I was truly disappointed with this book.I have read a stack of other books on this subject, by a number of authors. It seemed to me that this book had regurgitated the contents and general information from other books/sources.It didn't tell me anything new or interesting, the content seemed vague and watered down, and was not scientific at all (I am more interested in this).I think that there are much better choices out there on this subject. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars More tea, please!
This diet really does work.I'm not sure if it's because of the tea or that it moves your obsession from "what am I going to eat next"to "what tea am I going to drink next".If, like me, you constantly think about food, this diet will change your fixation to tea instead.
That said, I'm a tea drinker already so it was easy for me to follow his advice to fill the pot with loose tea and just add new water when needed. At the end of the day, the caffeine is all drawn out and you can still enjoy the tea.I'd never thought of that and it IS nice to sit down at the end of the day when everyone else is asleep and have a nice cuppa.
There are lots and lots of recipes and I'm planning on trying quite a few of them, rubs for meats especially. They sound yummy.
I crave salty snacks and his tip on tea for my craving really works!I just bought the tea in the grocery store, there really isn't the need to buy on the web unless you're curious about Dr. Teas teas. There are plenty of options that are easily available.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thoughts of a frequent dieter
I'm a frequent dieter. After 8 years of doing Atkins, Slimfast, Nutrifast, Medifast, South Beach, Jenny Craig and Sugarbusters, I was determined to find something new to lose a bit of weight before summer.Just to make it clear - I've already reached my goal weight with Jenny, but I've packed on 5 unnecessary pounds because I've been writing my thesis.Because I'm short (5"2),and relatively light, the 5 lbs do not come off quickly.

However, after a week with this diet, this is what I've accomplished so far:
    - gave up coffee addiction (used to need 3 cups a day)
    - lost 2 lbs ( and I haven't even followed the meal plan due to lack of time - I just ate what I normally ate and skipped dessert. It could be water weight, but I think if I keep this up I'll actually lose fat)
    - noticeably lost inches around my waist
    - incorporated 5 cups of tea (instead of the suggested 8, just because I'm out all day working and that's really hard)into my day
    - fought snacking urges by drinking tea instead

I thought that drinking tea would make me unable to sleep. When I drank coffee, I couldn't have any past 4pm because I'd end up staying up all night. But I could have green tea at 11pm and still sleep. It's because the ingredients in tea counteract the negative effects of caffeine.

I gave the book 4 stars because I did not like the meal plan too much. The recipes are quite hard for people who do not have much time.I work, study, and have language courses in the evening - I don't have time to create a marinade out of tea leaves. For many of the desserts, you need tea from Dr. Tea's catalogue. I'm living all the way in Europe and it's harder to find those dessert teas in normal supermarkets.

I'll check back in a month and update on my progress.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tea does help!
I have been a tea drinker now for many years.I still LOVE coffee, but not the way it treats me - it is too harsh for my system to drink on a daily basis.I love to have tea throughout the day and this book validates it for me!I have found that I can substitute some food by drinking tea, but growing up, I always had tea with a snack, so that is something I am getting over.

One thing that is important that I have taken away from this book is that you can re-brew the same tea (whole or partial leaves) all day long and only the first brewing has caffeine!

There is a lot of helpful and fun info. in this book. It's an easy read.I think I read it in two nights before bed.I would recommend this to anyone trying to make the switch to tea.

Green Tea and Weight Loss - Losing Weight the Natural Way!
    ===============================================

Green tea weight loss has become a hot topic of discussion in the weight loss and medical circles. The documented positive effects of green tea on losing weight has caused more and more people looking to lose weight to seek out this ancient brew.

However does green tea actually help you to lose weight? Is this all simply hype or is there something real and factual to the stories? Well here are some interesting facts about drinking green tea and weight loss.

Advantages of Drinking Green Tea for Weight Loss

Green tea and boosting your metabolism - Recently the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported its findings on the effect of drinking green tea and weight loss. Researchers found that green tea extract actually increased the metabolism of green tea drinkers dramatically. So much so that in a 24 hour period the average metabolic rate of the green tea drinkers in the studies increased by over 4%. Green tea possesses extremely high levels of catechin polyphenols. These substances actually aid your body in increasing its ability to oxidize fat and speeds up thermo-genesis which is how quickly your body burns off excess fat and calories. This is a critical factor of drinking green tea and weight loss.

Researchers also found that green tea regulates glucose leevels. Green tea helps to keep your blood levels stable after each meal and prevents spikes in insulin. This means less fat is stored after each meal while drinking green tea. This is directly tied to the active ingredients called catechins found in high levels in green tea.

Green tea also reduces your cravings and appetite - In a recent study it was found that green tea extracts caused rats to lose up to 21 percent of their body weight after a week of being injected with green tea extract. These rats were injected daily with the green tea extract. As a result the rats consumed up to 60 percent less food after a week. It's believed that this is tied directly to green tea's ability to regulate blood sugar levels.

Green Tea and Weight Loss - The Bottom Line

Green tea helps you lose weight by increasing your metabolic rate boosting your body's ability to burn excess calories and stored fat. Green tea also regulates your blood sugar levels and suppresses your appetite. Green tea is also a far superior choice to drinking coffee each day. So overall the stories are indeed true in regards to the power of drinking green tea and weight loss.

How to Brew Green Tea ?
    ==================
Although it's not hard to do, there are a few things to be considered when brewing green tea

    Water quality...
Good quality water is essential for making a good cup of green tea. Make sure you're using good water.

    Water temperature...
This is where most mistakes are made. Brew your green tea too hot, and your tea will become bitter. The correct temperature does vary depending on the green tea, but for most it is around 165-170 degrees F (73-76 C.)

Proportion of green tea to water...
Most of our green teas are brewed at 1 heaping teaspoon (5 grams) per 8 ounces of water, but this can vary depending on the tea.

    Brew time...
Generally, two minutes is all it takes Any longer, and the taste may becomes too bitter. Also, it's very important to NOT stir, shake, or mix the tea.

Allowing the tea room to expand...
This is rather important. Chinese green tea is compact - it needs room to expand. Tea balls do not work well at all. You'll be much better off using a Japanese teapot that was designed with green tea in mind. It is a one time investment of between $30-$100, and will make your life so much easier.

Take a good look at the inside of this green tea teapot to the left, made in Japan. The infuser screen goes all the way around the inside of the teapot, allowing the tea leaves to expand fully. This is the best kind to use. These teapots are rather small, about the size of a grapefruit, and usually hold 8-13 ounces or so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome guide for weight loss and lifestyle change
My daughter and I both have all of the classic symptoms of insulin resistance. Her doctor suggested weight loss, and I decided this could be something we could do together. This book is an excellent guide to understanding and implementing a life style change in eating with simple, easy to follow directions.Anyone facing a health crisis due to weight issues due to belly fat should read this book. I have been a carbo-alholic for many years, and suffer with hypoglycemic issues.I have suffered with depression, exhaustion, and light-headedness where I had to lie down just to get over it.I feel so much better, I have more energy, I can get through a day without dizzy spells and constant carb cravings.....and my cloths are getting looser, and I feel so much better about myself without feeling like I am depriving myself of food...because you eat a lot of times during the course of the day. This is the easiest food plan I have ever followed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally I can eat and loose weight!!!
After trying every diet book outhere, I finally came accross "The Insulin Resistance Diet" recommended by my friend. At first I was kind of skeptical, but gave it a shot anyways. I can happily comment that it actually works !!!! It teaches you to eat healthy, and how the body reacts to certain types of foods.

5-0 out of 5 stars common sense in a book!
This book is worth it weight in gold.During the first week of Link and Balance I lost 4 lbs without starving, craving or feeling deprived.I have recommended this book to over a dozen people!Stop wondering what you can do to feel better, lose weight & get your insulin resistence under control. Spend the $12 and find out in 2 chapters!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Changed My Life... Literally!
I've been following the eating plan outlined in this book for 2 months now- and I'm down 18 pounds!I lost SIX pounds in the first week, and I've lost roughly 2 pounds each week since then.I still have about 20 pounds to go until I'm at my goal weight- but I haven't been this close in YEARS.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16, and started struggling with my weight around the same time.I was never obese, but I was always overweight, even though I was active.Over the years, I've tried EVERYTHING.For 4 months earlier this year, I did a vegan diet, and stuck to a 1,600 calorie diet.I did "Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga" 6 days a week, and I walked 3 days a week.In those 4 months, I GAINED ten pounds.I was working my BUTT off- but my butt was getting bigger. ;)

I did this "diet"- the Insulin Resistance diet- and I've NEVER felt better.I have energy to spare!I have the motivation to walk- and I walk 6-10 hours a week.People who I know can't believe how different I look- they tell me all the time. But the most important difference to me is the way I FEEL.If I "fall off the wagon", I get cramps and bloating- it's not worth it to eat junk anymore.I don't have cravings for junk anymore- the cravings I used to have to FIGHT.They're gone!

This book literally changed my life, and I am SOOOO grateful "Dr. Google" found it for me!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazed by how good and simple this is
I was reluctant to give it a try since i tried so many times to lose weight on normal diets and they didn't work, of course now I know why ! Low carb also is a no-no for me, since I am hypoglycemic thanks to insulin resistance :-) Anyway, I lost a bit of weight, but then I discovered that all the yogurt I was eating to balance the carbs was making my body mad, with pimples and all ! That's how I discovered I am lactose intolerant. I replaced the milk based protein with pure egg protein, i bought it on ebay but I am sure it can be found in normal countries, not like mine :-p That's my advice to lactose intolerant people who want to be on this diet. The egg white protein is tasteless, when drank alone it tastes like water with a bit of salt, with food it's neutral and tasteless. Give it a try ! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Negative reviews get hung up on religion instead sound nutritional advice
This book gives proven sound nutritional advice regardless of your religious views. The top two negative reviews posted focus on the theological aspect and try to discredit the author for selling products. Many alternative health professionals and practices do this in order to supply quality products which promote health and the body healing. The reviewers fail to mention that in their presentations, Hallelujah Acres, will tell their audience of comparable products they can purchase if they choose.

From my experience and research in the arena of the diet and lifestyle to promote the body healing, Hallelujah Acres is right on par with many of the cutting edge alternative organizations, secular and religious. Their prices are on the lower end. You may not agree with their religious philosophies but their nutritional advice and results is in agreement with a lot of other natural health professionals, many from medical backgrounds, around the world. And the evidence is growing.

If Hallelujah Acres were one of a few organizations making the claims they do without the proof It would be one thing. Their diet and lifestyle and healing testimonies are consistent with the alternative health community.

I'm not trying to deny the reviewers feelings but I think their reviews were not just about the book but of the Hallelujah Acres as a whole and it gave an inaccurate picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ AND APPLY.
AMAZING BOOK, FULL OF TRUTHS THAT I HAVE MYSELF PUT INTO PRACTICE WITH GREAT RESULTS.
I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND READING THE CHINA STUDY, AND RAW FOOD LIFE TO REALLY DRIVE ALL INFORMATION HOME.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I received my products in a timely fashion and in excellent condition...I would certainly recommend this seller to others...Thank you and may God bless and prosper you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Neither Biblically nor scientifically sound
I bought this book because someone dear to me said she was on a new diet that cures cancer. She said this diet is based on science and Bible teachings, but then talked about eating almost all raw foods and cutting out all meat and animal products. Having done extensive studies of the Bible, health, and nutrition myself, I immediately wanted to know upon what evidence this diet is based. It is mostly testimonials. I found no peer reviewed journal articles, and little other scientific data listed in the endnotes.Often Reverend Malkus used videos made by his own corporation to back up what he says in the book.

One can demonstrate that this diet is neither Biblically sound, nor scientifically backed up.

First, it is Biblical? Malkus quotes Genesis 1:29 only. He then restricts people to raw vegetables, fruits, sprouted grains, nuts, products called BarleyMax, CarrotjuiceMax, BeetMax (that the Hallelujah Acres Corporation sells), and once in awhile a few cooked beans or grains (pages 142, 143).

Rev. Malkus ignores the many, many other references to food, diet, and healthy living in the Bible. For instance, he ignores Genesis 3:19; "by the sweat of your brow shall you eat bread." Bread is mentioned 361 times in the Bible. Jesus himself fed the twelve disciples bread and wine at the last supper. He said, "I am the bread of life,"( John 6:7), and he taught us to pray, "give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11). Bread is a cooked food that has always been the staff of life, but Dr. Malkus wants people to eat mainly uncooked sprouted grains.

He also advocates heavy use of vegetable juice made with a juicer or blender. How many people throughout history have had access to electric juice extractors? Yet he says this diet is "natural" and Biblical.

Then he makes the wildly unsubstantiated claim:
"... almost everyone who adopts it [The Hallelujah Diet] gets well from almost every physical problem they have been experiencing, and then stays well" (p. 66).

As for cutting out all meat, fish and dairy products-- Rev. Malkus explains away Genesis 9:1-3 where God blesses Noah and gives him the beasts of the air and the fish of the sea to eat.He says nothing about the dietary laws given to the Israelites where God tells them they can eat clean meats, poultry, and fish-- just not the fat on the meat, nor unclean meats (scavenger animals, prone to infectious diseases), Leviticus 11-12.

Malkus completely ignores that Jesus himself fed fish and bread to his five thousand followers, in a miraculous act of love. Throughout Jesus' ministry He healed people, which is why he is called the Great Physician. Would the Great Physician feed something harmful to his followers? Jesus also ate fish, bread, and drank wine. Rev. Malkus advocates cutting out all alcohol, all coffee, and all tea, except herb teas. He bases it on his theory of "acidity," for which I can find no scientific support.

If you want to know more about principles of health from the Bible, a much better book is by Rex Russell, MD.What the Bible Says About Healthy Living. Dr. Russell has done a much more thorough study of the Bible, is a Christian medical doctor who backs up what he says with sound science, and is not trying to sell you products like BarleyMaxor CarrotjuiceMax.

As far as science is concerned, the unsubstantiated claims that Rev. Malkus makes in the "Hallelujah" book are nothing short of outrageous, bordering on dangerous. For instance: "All drugs are toxic. There isn't a safe drug on the planet earth."(p. 86).

It is shocking that any M.D. would endorse his book, as Rev. Malkus would deny people the benefits of antibiotics, pain-killers, anesthesia, thyroid replacement, seizure controlling drugs, and so many other medicines, making it seem immoral to ever go to medical doctors. In his system, the only moral thing to do is go on his extremely restrictive diet.If there are no safe drugs on the planet, you couldn't go to the dentist either, because the dentist might use a local anesthetic when repairing your teeth.

    Here is another bizarre claim:

"There is a similarly fine line between life and death regarding the temperature of foods we eat. At 107 degrees F, the enzymes--the life force within the food--start to break down and die. By 122 degrees F, all enzymatic activity is gone--the food is dead..." (there are no footnotes that document where he gets this information). How does Malkus know when the "life force within" the food "dies"? Enzymes are simply proteins that, in the stomach for instance, help to digest foods. What in the heck is he talking about?

Conclusion: Yes, it is good to increase one's intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and other whole foods. Yes, Americans eat too much red meat, refined sugars, and saturated fats. But Malkus' Hallelejah diet is an extreme, needless, and potentially harmful gimmick, in opposition to what Jesus taught about foods.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Has Truth In It That Will Change Your Health And Change Your life - I Know - It Did mine!!!
This is an EXCELLENT book! I highly recommend it. You will learn so much in this book and it will help change your life. Are you tired of being sick? Tired of going to Doctors and paying large sums of money and they are just as sick as you are? Nobody seems to have the answers UNTIL you read this and other informative books from Hallelujah Acres. These people truely care about others and want people who are seeking the TRUTH a place where they can go and find it. Forget the negative reviews or else you will never find out for yourself the truth. It changed my life and my entire city has seen the difference that this diet and lifestyle can do, even my father who found out he had prostate cancer now has a dopted this diet and has some very amazing recovery already in 6 months and has lost a ton of weight. This book helped me to learn about foods! I later learned about the Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle and changed my diet. I now look and feel 20years younger and my arthritis is gone! I used to weigh 215 lbs and now I weigh 167 lbs. I have been on the Hallelujah Diet for almost 4 yrs now and LOVE it. In fact as of this year (2009) I eat all RAW living foods and I can see even more difference. I highly recommend the HA diet and RE-learning about foods, what you eat may be causing your problems! It is not so important what you eat...AS COMPARED TO...What You DON'T EAT!!! After almost 4 years of changing my diet and lifestyle I have impacted my communtiy and several people now have learned about the HA diet and eating more raw living foods and understanding what food is and what food is NOT. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is killing us slowly in the wonderful country many have helped to build. The Love of money, greed and lack of understanding about what we put into our mouths everyday is the cause of up to 90% of all of phyical problems. I hope you will begin to learn and change, it worked for me and many others. Read as many books as you can and learn for yourself, and again I highly recommend the Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle. It took years of learning and struggling to find this out, but it completely changed every area of my life in a very positive and healthy way! It's only a Book.... But the truth in it CAN change your life! ... Read more

I bought the book as we were both flirting with the idea of the Adkins low carb diet but weren't actually sure if the info we were reading on the Net was correct. After reading about Dr. Adkins research the detailed diet and nutrition plan in the original book we decided to go withit. The cookbook has such delicious recipes you aren't aware you're dieting and the pounds just melt away. We are both within 30 pounds of our goal! And we've never felt better.

Yummy recipes! The Atkins protein bars (peanut butter) are not bad either. Those you can get at any health food store.

1-0 out of 5 stars To Good To Be True
The Adkins diet works because decreasing your carb intake decreases your calorie intake and it also works by your body loosing significant fluids secondary to increased urine excretions of ketones (from fat burning) and nitrogen (from use of protein for energy rather than the body's first choice of glucose from carbs).

Problems related to this diet include:

    * increased protein diets heavily burden the kidneys to excrete exessive amounts of nitrogen which has been shown to lead to loss of renal (kidney) function with aging.

*Inadequate carb intake compromises glycogen storage in liver and muscles (the body's 1st choice for energy source) risking fatigue and poor performance

*Protein in excess of need is used for energy (but if you are fatigued from lack of carbs you wont use the energy), the other protein is converted to fat, and its a well known health risk to have an increased body fat %

    * Also, high protein is associated with increased urinary excretion of calcium, and may therefore contribute to osteoporosis.

    * High intake of animal proteins are linked to atherosclerosis (related to saturated fat and cholesterol content) and to colon and prostate cancers.

Honestly this diet is not healthy for you at all. Eating a well balanced diet and regularly getting excercise will help you stay healthy and can remove you from the burden and cost that all of these fad diets offer. No matter how Mr. Adkins died doesn't matter... what matters is that you have a choice to make good decisions about your health and realize that sometimes these fad diets are too good to be true and we could be putting ourselves at risk by believing they are the answer to our problems. ... This review is for the book: Living Heart Diet
by Dr. William Debakey, et al.

This is an excellent book for those who have had heart problems and for those who do not want to develop heart problems. Poor diet (high fat/cholesterol) is one of the main risk factors for heart disease -- excess cholesterol lays a foundation of plaque in your arteries that can eventually cause heart attacks and/or necessitate heart surgery. This book was developed to help us all eat right and help avoide disease. This book contains recipes, education about heart disease, and nutrition and sodium tables for most of the foods you eat. This is an excellent resource! Use it in good health!

"Dr. Pescatore's The Hamptons Diet takes the Diet Revolution to the next level--a healthy, sensible diet and lifestyle plan that will make us all thinner, happier, and healthier."
--Fran Gare, N.D., Southampton, author of Anti-Aging Diet EvolutionAmazon.com Review
"Indulge yourself and be fabulous because of it" is the motto of The Hamptons--a 40-mile oceanfront stretch of Long Island where New York City's rich and famous frolic--and of Pescatore's diet. Former medical director of the Atkins Center, Pescatore incorporates what he believes to be the best of both low-carb and Mediterranean diets. The Hamptons Diet eliminates "unhealthful foods that your body does not metabolize well," Pescatore explains. His diet is high in monounsaturated fats (especially macadamia nut oil), vegetables, fish, lean meats, nuts, whole grains, and low-sugar fruits: "real food"--unprocessed, unrefined, mostly organic. Pescatore tells anecdotes about his rich and famous clients (first names only) who achieved health and weight loss with his program. His writing is peppy and easy to follow, though he falls into self-praise a bit much. He explains his concepts clearly, although you might want to skim some of his 21 pages about the properties of32 different oils. About half the book consists of a 30-day menu plan and recipes that certainly don't shout "I'm dieting": quiche, pancakes, hot dogs, burgers stuffed with blue cheese, steak salad, ham, casserole, meatballs (with veal, pork, chuck, and cheese), and pork chops, for example. --Joan Price ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This diet is a bucket load of hogwash.
I didn't want to believe it.I wanted it to be the diet that finally works for me.Foolishly I ignored the reviews here before I purchased it thinking the reviews were so much sour grapes.I was dead wrong. The only purpose of this book is to line the author's pockets so he can afford to live in the Hamptons.

Another reviewer mentioned that all of the postive reviews must be from employees or plants to trick us into buying the book. That reviewer was right. There are several positive reviews, but in my humble opinion they simply don't have a ring of truth about them.

This book is worthless.Dont' waste your money.

    1-0 out of 5 stars don't bother
Saw on a news article that this is the newest diet craze and I bought this book to see what the hype is. Having lost over 100 lbs., I pretty much figured it out not to have sugar and stay away from white flours, grains, etc. Common sense is better than this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Diet ... A Winner
I have tried every diet under the sun and this is truly the best.Weight comes off fast, no hunger pangs, and plenty of energy. This is a life-style change diet that I can be on the rest of my life. The benefits are that the whole foods and nutrition shoul also reduce my risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. The focus on good fats is outstanding!

1-0 out of 5 stars A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
This was hardly a diet book, rather it is an infomercial posing as literature.Every other sentence seems to be about the virtues not of the diet but of a specific product.Macademia Nut Oil, and not just any generic macadamia nut oil but instead only one specific brand. Not too surprisingly other reviewers have indicated that the good doctor apparently is the owner of the company.I can't believe the positive reviews here, they had to be posted by someone in the author's employment. This book was such an insult to anyone with intelligence.Another reviewer refered to the author as a SNAKE OIL salesman and I highly agree. Please save your time and money and don't buy this book.

I'm a tried and true veteran dieter (just ask my husband). This diet is effortless because the recipes are so wonderful. This way of eating can easily become one's lfestyle. Concerning the price of MacNut Oil: Yes it is expensive, but I only use a 1-2 tablespoons/day and it is delicious. I pick the recipes that are affordable for our family. Many of the food such as ground chuck, chicken breast, and eggs are foods we normally eat. What's wonderful about this book is that the recipes make these foods taste amazing. I love this book. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and to the point !
The book is written simply and easy to understand.I really am learning a lot from the analyses and comparisons contained throughout.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still not easy.
While this book is interesting and well-written, I found, upon finishing it, that I was unconvinced that the Hay Diet offers any more benefit than any other sensible eating plan, nor that it could ever be described as "easy." Still, if you ARE convinced, this is definitely a great book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good and Easy
The Hay Diet Made Easy was very informative and easy to read and understand how to combine your foods. There is so much information about food combining in this book.I liked the book. I can't express enough how easy it was to understand the way to combine your foods.

4-0 out of 5 stars good book
this is a good introductory book about food combining. i read it before reading kathryn marsden's one and that is my fave. if you want to dabble in combining this is great. some aspects are confusing and you just have to draw your own conclusions. and its british, so its fun to read the little idiomatic expressions. i walk around calling it an 'avocado pear' now and my husband thinks i'm crazy-in a good way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sensible Eating
When I first heard of the Hay Diet, I thought it provided the ultimate answers to all the questions I had asked over many years of experience in practical eating but had never found elsewhere.
As a student of experimental science at various levels over a quarter of a century it always amazed me that we ordinary mortals daily shove virtually anything down ourthroats and never seem to worry if the items involved are compatible with one another or if combining them is conducive to good health.
Jackie Habgood's book recognises the sensible reality that all foods are not friendlyto all others and she explains the basic theory of keeping proteins and carbohydrates apart and of the probable undesirable effects of notfacing the facts.
But her book is a gem in turning the theory into an easily digestible programme for daily eating. A great book and a great buy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Naturally Honest
I love the Real Housewives; espescially Bethenny. And who doesnt want to lose a little weight? So for me buying this book was a no brainer. But i was actually surprised by the content. Bethenny littered the book with deliciouse, healthy, and easy to make recipes. Her way of explaining how to be "naturually thin" made sense and sounds totally realistic and healthy. Take it from me ive worked at a gym for some time now and Bethenny was right on point. Moderation is key to success, and limiting your food options is one of the easiest ways to fall off the wagon. Bethenny offers tips and strategies that work, and most of all will change your relationship with food. Now this book isnt for everyone some of us just dont have the self control to only have half of that steak, or just three bites of cake. But then again you may surprise yourself so give it a try!

5-0 out of 5 stars not a diet, its new way of life
i have read so many negative reviews comparing this book to a "guideline to anorexia". that is simply not true. totally misunderstood. this book is about changing you mentality to lose weight and keeping it off. when Betheny says she eats 3 bites of steak, she doesnt mean she eats ONLY 3 bites of steak literally!! she eats anything she is in the mood for. for example, she will eat fast food, she is simply saying it's ok, just eat small poritions of it. an example for me would be to order a kids meal. so far using her methods, i have lost 2 lbs in one week. i have not deprived myself. i ate a slice of cheesecake yesterday. this book is not about dieting. for me diets dont work. my problem was that i love food and i love to eat. this book changed my ways of thinking about food. now i dont obsesse about what im having for lunch or dinner. now i just go with the flow and when the time comes when im hungry, then i decide what im in the mood for. i would recommend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars More DIET Misery...
I have given a lot of thought to the review of this book. It's hard to write such a negative review, because I think Bethenny Frankel is well-intentioned, and seems like the type of woman I could really get along with. However, she has a blind spot the size of a monster truck regarding her very neurotic, disordered eating habits, that most definitly border on anorexia. If you are thinking about buying this book, hit a bookstore and skim it back to front. If you do this, you'll first be treated to her 3 week food journal. It is so crazy that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! Certainly, this book blows the cover on how the famous are thin! They hardly eat at all! Two bites of this, one sip of that, couple noodles, salad, salad, salad. Oh my!
Then, there's the "little" problem with Part 2 of the book. It spells out a DIET! By the way, her "this is in no way a diet" has now benn titled the "Naturally Thin Program"; mmmhmmm, I see, we'll call it a program, and keep denying that it is a diet every other sentence, and that will make it so. No dice. The second part of the book, goes into detail about being allowed two sweets a day. Ofcourse, allowed is not the term used, they are "guidelines", yeah whatever. At this point, all the red flags that had popped up for me in the first part of the book, were now full-blown sirens! Can she really write this stuff and deny that it is a diet with a straight face? I felt like the book was bi-polar! So, you should know that sugar in your coffee, or even fruit and alcohol counts towards your 2 sweets a day. And then there's all the calculating you have to do about carbs/proteins and not eating the same kind of meal twice in a day, etc. Hello, can we say contradictory?! Nothing is off-limits, except soda and fast-food drive-throughs, which the author passionately labels as disgusting. When you pay attention to what she's really saying, it becomes evident that you'll be eating veggies almost ALL the time, with 3 bites of someone else's steak and 2 bites of chocolate cake, once in awhile. Wow, I just can't wait to eat like this! No hunger, or deprivation? Compared to what, full on anorexia?
I cannot figure out how come there are so many 5 star reviews here. My theory is that most of them were written by women with as many disordered, neurotic (if not more so) eating behaviors. So, by comparison, Frankel's book seems sane. It might be that Bethenny's own past with food is extremely obsessive. Maybe her denial of her undereating, and undernourishment is all relative to her.
In closing, while there are important common sense principles to be found in Part 1 of this book, (which are found everywhere these days), overall, this way of eating is worrisome. I don't know how Bethenny has the energy to stand upright.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Advice For Remaining Thin, but Great Advice For Becoming and Anorexic
You do not need this book ladies.Portion control has been around forever, but if you need something try Weight Watchers.Bethenny's Naturally Thin is fantastic for yo-yo dieters. Her advice drink and never finish a meal, Wow!Yes, it is in the book if anyone cares to dispute it I can get page numbers for you.She loves to drink and it is in most lunch and dinner menus and she loves to taste, but never finish, which is a calling card for ANOREXIA!

Please buy for yourself, mothers and dauthers we need to have more people in the US with severe body problems because they are either malnurished or obese!!! Three cheers for that! NOT!

Seriously if you follow the advice in this book you need to see a physician to monitor your dietary needs.

    Terrible book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for all body types
This book is a fun narrative easy read.I say it works for all body types because I am not someone that had a ton of weight to lose (only about 5 lbs) but it is those last 5 that never want to come off!Since reading the book one month ago I have lost 1.5 lbs.I think it is what Bethenny said and about "unleashing your skinny girl".I have always been fit and healthy but that also consisted of counting calories all day.I felt like my head was an abacus or I was always writing in a food journal. This may be good for someone just starting so they can see what they really put into their body, but it can get exhausting. Now I just balance my daily diet as Bethenny recommended. It is so much more "life friendly".The biggest thing I took away from Bethenny was not feeling guilty when I have slip ups.You let it go and adjust the next day.If you "taste everything, eat nothing"....meaning have a small piece of dessert, you are likely not to go overboard and feel guilty.Instead you just enjoyed your small piece of dessert (or whatever) and feel happy about your choice.Overall, I think each person will find one or two of her mantras that they can apply to their lives and for each person it will be different. Most important - stay healthy and happy. ... Product Description
In this second, expanded edition of the best-selling The Brain Diet, Dr. Alan C. Logan incorporates the latest research on the connection between nutrition, mental health, and intelligence.

Most people today know that good nutrition and good health are related and that poor nutrition frequently leads to cardiovascular disease and cancer. Unfortunately, few people realize that it also is an underlying factor in other medical conditions, such as depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, migraine headaches, ADHD, and much more. This is startling when one realizes that researchers have found that today more than 50 percent of the vegetables in most people's diets consists of the trimmings on a hamburger and a side of fries.

The Brain Diet explains the connection between diet and mental health, as well as its importance for realizing the full potential of our intelligence. It shows how poor nutrition hinders the development of our children's intelligence and how it adversely affects mental health and success.

Despite being just 2 percent of total adult weight, the human brain demands an enormous amount of energy. An ample flow of blood is required for us to think, to reason, to create art and music, to develop technology, and to perform complex work. As The Brain Diet explains the science behind how our brains function, it also provides suggestions for a healthy diet.

Included are the basics of a brain-healthy diet, brain-healthy recipes, helpful charts, and food supplements that enhance our mental function (and how those supplements work). This revolutionary new way of looking at mental health and intelligence gives new meaning to the adage "You are what you eat." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!! Definitely Worth Reading
I have had the privilege of reading several books on the subject and I have to say that The Brian Diet is the best book in its category. This book is extremely rich in useful and relevant data that will shock readers. There is such a link between diet, lifestyle, and stress on one's health and the brain and Dr. Logan's advice is spot on. There are some great recipes and supplementation recommendations. I have made two recipes over the last week from this book and each came out delicious with easy preparation. It is clear that Dr. Logan spent hours on researching for this book. Although one reviewer stated that the research had been hand-picked, I must disagree. I have read many books on the topic and Dr. Logan's research is exactly what I have seen quoted from the most prestigious medical journals. The best part is that this book cuts to the chase and applies the information well. Overall a great read, you will not be disappointed!

Anyone suffering from depression, anxiety or other neurological issues, I highly recommend this book.I have read everything out there on the subject of diets that help mood, and this is by far the most scientific and on target book out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
To me, this book is all about positive realism. It doesn't make any oulandish claims about some super supplement that will boost your IQ by fifty points. It presents health in a understandable but intelligent way, with no shameless promotion of any products, and makes suggestions that one could_possibly_undertake.This book can best be described as integrative: it shows once again that the body is one and connected.Although it's called"the brain diet," this book is more of a lifestyle plan--so much more than just a diet.I encourage everyone to pick this up if you are willing to take a step to improve your health and your childrens'. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Type 2 Diabetes Diet Plan
I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was floundering trying to find what I should/should not eat.I even went to a dietician, who was telling me I could eat Cheerios - which would've given me a blood glucose shock.I bought about 6 books. This is by far the best book out there. It gives you a very easy way to measure the size of your daily portions of proteins, fruits & veggies, and snacks - yes you can have snacks. This book changed my life for the better. At first I was overwhelmed with trying to test my blood glucose levels, taking meds, dieting, exercising, and figuring out what I have to stop eating. My glucose levels were very high - and I was scared to death. After 5 weeks I've lost 20 pounds and this book has given me the confidence to know that I am eating things that won't spike my glucose levels.I'm feeling better then I have in a long time.Largely due to getting this book. And it doesn't cost you a lot of money either. The funny part of this is - now that my friends have seen how good I'm looking - they all want to go on this diet too - and none of them are diabetic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
Is a small book very nice to put in your purse to follow the food list when you go to buy groceries or eat out. Don't have a list of fast food just you need to do your best judge. Is explained very simple easy to understand the concept. You don't need to measure anything just divide your plate and use your palm like a guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book in excellent condition
I received this book in a timely manner and it was in excellent condition.I am very satisfied with my purchase.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Easy GL diet handbook
Please be aware of the word "handbook".This "book" was small--about 5x7 size.In searching for a reference to assist me in recording in my food diary, I thought this would do so.The foods are listed in five columns--the "food", the "GI value", the "amount of food in grams containing 50 grams of carbohydrates", then "carbohydrate per 100 grams of food" and then the "GL" column--not "one apple" or "1/3 c of rice", etc.So it was not much help to me.Most text's that I have viewed so far have GI/GL information for a food serving but it is very limited but this booklet's listed servings were indescript and not adaptable to everyday life. The booklet itself was in great condition and it was promptly delivered. ... Read more

    Product Description

Loren Cordain, Ph.D., follows his success of The Paleo Diet with the first book ever to detail the exercise-enhancing effects of a diet similar to that of our Stone Age ancestors.

When The Paleo Diet was published, advocating a return to the diet of our ancestors (high protein, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables), the book received brilliant reviews from the medical and nutritional communities. Jennie Brand-Miller, coauthor of the bestselling Glucose Revolution, called it "without a doubt the most nutritious diet on the planet." Doctors Michael and Mary Dan Eades, authors of Protein Power, said, "We can't recommend The Paleo Diet highly enough."

Now Dr. Cordain joins with USA triathlon and cycling elite coach Joe Friel to adapt the Paleo Diet to the needs of athletes. The authors show:
o Why the typical athletic diet (top-heavy with grains, starches, and refined sugars) is detrimental to recovery, performance, and health
o How the glycemic load and acid-base balance impact performance
o Why consumption of starches and simple sugars is only beneficial in the immediate post-exercise period

At every level of competition, The Paleo Diet for Athletes can maximize performance in a range of endurance sports.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taking Paleo to the next level.
If you have read "The Paleo Diet" and are a serious athlete this book is a must read.I have learned an amazing amount of information about how what we eat effects our body and the best practices for repair after heavy workouts.I currently do a couple of sprint triathlons yearly and after reading this book have increased my ability both in strength and recovery. This book gave me the tools to take my competition to the next level which is an Olympic Triathlon double my normal distance. The basics of this book are easy to understand and are designed for serious athletes. If you are new to the Paleo concept I would recommend reading "The Paleo Diet" first. If I can pass on one thing from this reading it would be "Stop eating processed foods immediately!".Your body and mind will thank you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Really Paleo
I purchased the book because I was particularly interested in learning some a-little-less-than-laymen explanation of what happens physiologically in the body of the Paleo runner. But this book stayed very, very on the surface (a whole section on how to hydrate? Hey, that's filler!) and sophistication-wise, was a far cry from Gary Taubes (or, really, any competent blog on the subject, of which there are a few).

Most disappointingly, thisbook is standard high-carb advice for runners. A majority of its content is indistinguishable from any other guide to endurance nutrition. So, basically, you are advised to eat x grams of low glycemic carbs x hours before a race, and x grams of higher glycemic carbs as you approach race time. In fact, there is little in this book with regard to true paleo diet metabolism or low carb/high fat fueling and how that diet effects running. Perhaps the argument there is that one cannot be an endurance athlete while truly paleo. Touche. But don't write a book called "The Paleo Diet for Athletes."

But here is where my real beef is, and what really made this book a waste of time. Where the authors do seem to describe the Paleo diet, they get it pretty wrong. For instance, they push lean fats (not fatty animal ones) and warn of cholesterol and "bad" saturated fats, while encouraging vegetable oil consumption, issues at the very core of Paleolithic nutrition that have been specifically and comprehensively studied and debated, to the opposite conclusions that these authors come to. In fact, these authors are, by definition, not paleo at all, maybe just picky about which carbs and how many.

At the very least, if these writers had meant to promote neolithic nutrition, and totally diverge from paleo, I really wish they would've explained why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dieting that makes sense
This version of the book is designed specifically for athletes, but the concepts are important for everyone.

The authors are realistic and flexible in their diet advice.Whether you follow this advice or not, the book will give you plenty to think about.(This may be difficult for you if you are a vegan).

I learned some interesting nutritional facts, and have made some minor changes to the way I eat.The information about fruits and vegetables was very interesting to me, as were the ideas about when to eat different kinds of food and why.

I have been running for more than 50 years and recently completed a 184 mile, non-stop Ragnar relay from Woodstock, NY to Dobbs Ferry, NY.If I had read this book before the race I would have eaten differently.

4-0 out of 5 stars Same Book, Different Cover
If you didn't buy the 1st Paleo Diet Book, then this book is great. It goes over why our body doesn't function correctly by eating processed foods like the first book. There are certain elements and key points the author goes over that should be part of an athlete's diet. I felt many points were mentioned in the 1st book and the Paleo Diet for Athletes book. The Athlete book was just a regurgitation. There are so many foods that are listed that aren't good for our bodies. I now hesitate to eat anything off the supermarket shelves. I stick to the fruit and vegetable aisles though not every kind of "fresh fruit and vegetables" are good for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Paleo Schmaleo
What a fizzer. It took Cordain 300 pages to rehash his original book, and has added nothing new. Expecting some leading edge athlete nutritional advice?Dont look here - its the same old/same old, been there/done that in the Paleo Diet book. Cordain might be trying to squeeze out some mileage ( and some more bucks) from his original book methinks.
In fact, there is nothing 'paleo' about it. If you take Cordain's advice, you're eating meat and veges, then carb cylcling with 'certain nonoptimal foods' (page 163) meaning all the stuff he previously decries as 'non-paleo' (Bad) foods: 'cereal, dairy, salty foods, high fat meats and refined sugars' ( page 163).
And, hey, this fab new sports nutrition advice reminds me of the Body Opus book, the TNT Diet book etc, written years previous to this.Been there, done that. Copy cat.
