4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Five weeks and I've lost 22 lbs!He makes it easy to think about with the tips and trick. And I learned more about margarine than I ever cared to.Let's just say I haven't touched the stuff since!

5-0 out of 5 stars love it!
Great informative book. Everything from diet to nutrition to exercise information. Even recipes and healthier recommendations when eating out!

3-0 out of 5 stars Way too much food
This program required you to eat 6 meals a day. Calories around 1600. My husband and I were doing this diet together and after one month, we both gained 3 pounds. I cut calories for each day to prevent gaining since I knew that 1600 would be way too much.I fixed the recipes exactly as required, no extra amounts. We couldn't eat all that was required. Then it seemed like all we did all day was try to get menus ready, eat a ton of food and then eat more food. They only require 20 minutes of strength training three times a week along with all this food. That doesn't even help to burn off. I did my treadmill along with that, and still gained. Guess this program just wasn't for me.

I have done almost every program out there. Spark peoples program is free and lets you follow any program that you want. That is where I counted calories, and tracked my exercise. I lost 13 pounds. Can't wait to re-lose it after abs diet program!

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book!
I cannot say enough about how wonderful "The Abs Diet for Women" is. It's not really fair to call it a diet book. This is really a "learn an incredible amount of information about nutrition and learn how to live a healthy life" book. I began eating 5 times a day (three small-medium meals with mid-morning and afternoon snacks) and have already lost 7.5 pounds over the past 2 weeks. The power foods make perfect sense and are very easy to incorporate into every meal. I don't do the smoothies because of food allergies but I was able to take the core principles I learned from this book and am already seeing great success. The exercises are great and I love that the author tailored them to individual body styles. Whether you want to lose weight or simply learn more about nutrition and fitness, this is the book for you!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great all-inclusive Abs Diet Tome for Women
This book brings together the different components of the Abs Diet lifestyle and handily combines them all, serving as a great reference guide.
True to Abs Diet style, inspirational true stories are peppered throughout the book, prompting the "why didn't I find this sooner" thought.
There are several variations on the meal plans that put together real-life examples of how the Abs Diet looks across a couple weeks and highlights how many options there are, never leaving you feeling like you're eating the same stuff all the time.
Also included are specific exercises and plans for women - dealing with menstrual issues, pre- and post- pregnancy, menopause.
If I had one wish, it would be that the exercise pages were glossy coated pages with color photos. However I love that this book is paperback and has a smaller profile, so wouldn't want to give that up. ... Read more

Product Description
According to Rita Hancock, author of The Eden Diet, you can have your cakeand eat it too, even on a reducing diet. When you eat your treat in smallportions, without guilt, and in response to true, physical (not emotional)hunger, a little cake goes a long way to satisfy you. Attuning to yourbody’s hunger signals also helps you respond to its instinctive call forhealthy food to balance out the occasional treats. Dr. Rita’s approach isbased on her Ivy League training in nutrition, physiology, and obesitypsychology, but is reframed in her strongly Christian convictions about howto live the way God intended—physically healthy and free of the culturalobsession with food, eating, dieting, and thinness. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Will earn its place in any culinary library
THE EDEN DIET: YOU CAN EAT TREATS, ENJOY YOUR FOOD, AND LOSE WEIGHT advocates a simple technique - the Apple test - to help decide when it's actually time to eat. The idea is when you are physically hungry you will eat anything - even an apple - and it uses this and other visualization techniques to modify and identify real hunger and need versus habit. A fine behavior modification approach to dieting, this will earn its place in any culinary library.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Weight-Loss Book You'll Buy
"The Eden Diet" is the last weight loss book I'll purchase. In just over 200 easy-to-read pages I've found the answer I've suspected was the truth all along: This weight-loss thing is ALL about GOD and not about the foods I eat.

The foods I ate didn't make me overweight. Eating too many of them made me overweight. I have been in a life-long struggle with bondage to overeating. And, I've only traded that off here and there to end up in bondage to calorie counting, diet foods, specialty nutrition plans that bogged down my day and my heart, and scales. Breaking free from excess pounds only to end up incarcerated in a man-made prison to dieting rules, regulations, and dogma isn't the kind of freedom I've searched for. The freedom I wanted has been this: To just be normal! To no longer obsess over food, to no longer uncontrollably overeat, and just function like a normal, healthy, thin person does! I haven't wanted food to be the center of my life and I haven't wanted a diet to be either. But, I haven't truly made God the center of that desire.

Reading "The Eden Diet" was the answer to prayer. It was like God was saying: "I told you - focus on ME! The food isn't the issue! I AM (the issue)." This book will take you to verses you've either paid little attention to when you read them the first 20 times - or take you to verses you remember but haven't seen in the way you will after reading them this time. By the time you're done reading whatever hopelessness you've been feeling is going to turn dim - and you're going to see that all is NOT lost, this CAN BE DONE, and you CAN be FREE of pounds AND diets!!! And, if you've struggled with weight like I have - that statement has to excite you!

If you're a Christian - I ask you to order this book. Let God speak to your heart in this very moment and guide you to make the small investment that will change the way you see this struggle forever. You will NOT look at food or God the same.

The Lord is working through Dr. Rita in this text and using her to get to those of us who haven't been able to get this by ourselves. He works through people to help people - that is Biblical.

As a Christian - if you've struggled your whole life with weight loss just as I have - I also want you to remember this: there's a reason He hasn't let you do this on your own. He wants a relationship with YOU. You'll understand this completely by the time you finish the book.

This book is concise and to-the-point. You'll be able to read it in an evening or two - or over a weekend. Dr. Rita not only addresses the spiritual side of the struggle but also gives you practical ways to manage the things we all deal with (holidays, buffets, etc.). But, most importantly she'll remind you that it is FINE to eat some cake sometimes! It's okay to have some chips! It's all about changing our hearts and minds so we don't eat too much food!!! It's THAT simple! GET THE BOOK!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The answer I was looking for was there all along!
For most of my life I've been chasing after "THIN," desperately trying one diet after another to lose weight. All this quest got me after many years was 100 pounds overweight and a very heavy heart. Who knew that the answer to my weight problem was not DIETING, but EATING!
THE EDEN DIET by Dr. Rita Hancock gives the weary chronic dieter the hope and tools needed to give up dieting and embrace the freedom of eating any food within the parameters of hunger and fullness. To be truthful, this simple-sounding solution to weight control is a challenge, but well worth the journey. Where diets continually focus attention on food, THE EDEN DIET squarely places the focus on changing the heart. Dr. Hancock not only encourages the reader to retrain their eating habits, but also retrain how they THINK and FEEL about food and themselves. When you've wisely decided you've had enough of dieting, this is the book for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a life-changing book
This book has meant so much freedom for me! After reading this book, I truly feel that it is a huge blessing from God. I am 19 years old and have been in bondage to food for a long time, even becoming anorexic a year ago. After trying to "heal" myself from the anorexia, I became a compulsive, emotional, binge eater. I was constantly beating myself up, longing for my thinner anorexic days (even though I was underweight and depressed). However, I feel so much hope, relief, and freedom after reading your book. I realized I don't need to constantly be thinking and analyzing what to eat, when to eat, etc. Just follow my body's signals- and leave my overflowing knowledge of dieting and "good"/"bad" nutrition behind. I have been praying for the past 6 months for God to help me, and I believe that He finally knew I was ready- and lead my mom to the eden diet website last week. I ordered the book and workbook and got it last Thursday. I was so excited after reading the first few chapters I started crying and thanking God for it. It is such truth- and such freedom. I read the book in a couple days and I am still very excited. I don't need to lose much weight- only about 10 pounds. But it really is a new lifestyle of joy and freedom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Freedom from food related issues
This book has offered me incredible insight as to a whole new way of thinking regarding my body, weight, and self esteem. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a life-long approach to food and weight loss. Dr. Rita shows how God intended us to eat from the beginning of time. I love this book, and I love my new approach to food. ... Read more

Product Description

While working with athletes, Mike McInnes discovered that eating fructose-rich foods such as honey helped to burn fat and increase stamina. He also found that the best time to burn fat is while sleeping. Eating honey before bed activates the body’s natural recovery biology, which is fuelled by burning fat. These effects can be maximized by the accompanying 15 minute exercise program that is effective with only three sessions per week. Tested by professional athletes, this dream diet aims at creating a healthier lifestyle and increasing athletic ability rather than just losing weight.

3-0 out of 5 stars Unless you like Honey
This might really work, I personally will never find out. I tried to swallow just honey, then I tried honey in a beverage. Apparently I don't like honey. This might work for others that really like honey but it's not for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Diet of Daniel
This book is easy to read and follow. It has alot of encouaging notes, things to keep you motivated. However my thought on what I have read was the Daniel diet did not include meats, diet drinks, and bouillon and this book does in the Appendix A. It strongle encourages Atkins type diet for weight loss. Not biblically based for Daniel diet. But really enjoyed it anyhow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
This book is very informative and inspirational.I just finish my first read and I am working on the second read.I learned so much about the right kinds of food I should eat.I would highly recommend this book to those who are seeking a spiritual method of weight control and good nutrition.

2-0 out of 5 stars Diet of Daniel: a 10 day diet of Blessed Health, Weight loss and Fitness
I was disappointed. I thought it would represent an authentic picture of the Diet of Daniel. I did not like the fact that the author lost weight by the Atkins diet which is an unsafe diet. It did not go with the theme of the book. There were some good references to Dr Weil's guide to Optimal Health. I would not recommend this book.

Product Description
A COMPREHENSIVE INTRODUCTION TO THE NUTRITIONAL AND ECOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES OF A BALANCED, NATURAL WAY OF EATING.

Since its original publication, Macrobiotic Diet has become the bible for people interested in a healthy way of eating centered around whole, grains, fresh vegetables, and other whole, unprocessed foods.

This completely revised and updated edition offers a basic, readable presentation of the nutritional and ecological principles behind the macrobiotic diet. This book explains the foods and cooking techniques that are central to the macrobiotic approach to eating, and it demonstrates how the diet can be used to lose weight, to increase energy levels, to prevent and treat disease as well as to promote psychological health. Specific dietary adjustments and modifications are suggested according to gender, age, and level of activity to help optimize the overall effects of a whole-grain based diet.

This new edition of Macrobiotic Diet is expanded to include information on natural foods that have recently become available; the latest research on cancer and diet; AIDS and diet; the U.S. government's landmark report on Diet and Health; and the China Health Study; as well as a wealth of information on the impact of our dietary choices on the earth's environment. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Macrobiotic
This is an excellent book that tells it like it is. It does an excellent job of relating what you eat to the status of your health.

5-0 out of 5 stars Larger than Life
Macrobiotics first had its roots in America when Michio and his wife,Avelin came to this country in the 1950's with a vision that was"larger than life". Macro-bio-tics is exactly that. And theMacrobiotic Diet, as described in this book (among the many that existtoday) is one that doesn't just center around the do's and don'ts of propereating. It is a lifestyle; it is a way to think about one's body, mind, andsoul. When the macrobiotic principles of balance and nutrition are combinedwith yoga practice and meditation, the result is unity and wholeness. Thecircle is complete. Michio Kushi does not attempt to burden the reader withinstructions on what is good and what is bad. Although some novices to thispractice may run into the mistake of treating his "prescriptions"as limits in themselves, the book is meant to describe additions that canbe made to one's already existing diet, instead of just pointing out thatdairy and meat are "no no's". Though the macrobiotic approach mayintimidate or seem too strict at first, it is actually very flexible andopen. Otherwise, how can one expect to develop an open mind by following adiet that is limiting and rigid? The other critical point I'd like tonote is, however comprehensive the text, passive reading will neversubstitute for the magic and connection of actually PRACTICING macrobioticswith close friends and family members, or other people familiar with theapproach that would be willing to serve as a guide. Never think that youmust walk this road alone. The energy you get from macrobiotic cookingshould be a source of personal freedom and inspiration that carries youforward and brings you closer to people. One of the principle underlyingideas of macrobiotics is that the food you eat partially determines who youare--thus, in offering explanations for some of the ways to observe themacrobiotic diet, Michio talks about the chemistry behind the kinds offoods you would eat and how, depending on how yin or yang they are, thatmay affect your behavior and even personality. Thus, my advise is to usemacrobiotics to heal yourself of any tensions, stresses, or aggressivity(if you feel them) by "linking" yourself with others who followthis practice in hopes of speaking the same language and leading a morepeaceful life.

thank you very much for this opportunity to share, ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars sassy water and mufas - fun to say
Just got the book and can't wait to go shopping for my ingredients for sassy water and mufas. Great guidelines to food shop with - I'm making my plan to get started. The food I like anyhow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fat Belly No More
Love this diet - easy to follow, explanations and diet instructions are easy and recipes are delicious. My husband and I lost 7-8 lbs. each in just 2-1/2 weeks and have lost several inches all over as well. Best diet I have ever been on that really works. You are NEVER hungry and we have no cravings whatsoever. It is a lifestyle eating regimen that we are excited about. My husband has had to cut his blood pressure meds in half already, and I am anxious to see how my cholesterol tests out. We hope to be able to cut out both of them soon. We are not even going overboard on exercising! Oh, and we bought the cookbook and the big book as well. The guidebook is pretty much a summary of the big book, but worth the money.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to eat!
This way of eating has worked great for my husband and for me.My blood glucose numbers are the closest to being controlled that they have been for the past 3 years. My husband's blood pressure readings are great. This pocket guide made everything easy to follow. You can't go wrong!

5-0 out of 5 stars Living the fast life and needed a guide to eating right this works
I work in Washington DC. I confess to being a blackberry junky because of job demands. I'd order food to go back to my desk. I was picking the wrong foods to eat. I never really planned to eat, I just ate when I was starving grabbing something quick. I did not have time in my day to eat and did not want to think about what I should eat. When I had to go to the WOMAN's side of the department store to find a suit to wear - I knew I had to do something.I wanted it to be a long term solution to eating right.I don't like canned tuna or turkey and I can do this diet using the substituion.I did the jump start and stuck more or less to the 28 day plan concentrating on the restaurant guide to selecting 400 calorie meals and sticking to the rule to not go 4 hours without eating. This diet worked for me, so well folks would stop me in the hall tell me how great I was looking and what did I do?

Well, I got a pedometer, loaded my MP3 player with some Audible books and music and this book.I walk 10,000 steps a day, I try to work in a bicycle ride on one of our beautiful trails in DC or a Zumba class which, even here can be found for $5 a class and I use a 75 cm balance ball to do some admominal exercises for 10 minutes twice a day at home.I have given my book to 3 people and I am now buying my 4th copy.MUFAs and the better eating help me have energy to live life after working long hard days. Once my exercise was my commutewhich is still good for a few thousand steps and then walking from one meeting to another. I now fit in one walk around the Capitol Mall or downtown during the week. The size I am now is not yet my target size, Still I look in good in spandex for my size and that is a great start.Definitely consider this eating guide.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Travels well
I bought this little gem for my husband who travels a great deal. The price was right, the size is perfect, and he says he can use it really easily even though he sometimes doesn't have lots of time for meal planning. The book has great selections for fast food places, as well as grab-and-go snack bars.Shopping lists and pre-planned menus are real time savers for busy working folks or travelers. ... Product Description
This toothsome classic takes on the combined challenges of discovering the meaning of the universe and eliminating fat at the same time. Its topic sentence contains a promise that should sell millions: "In this book, I tell how to take weight off and keep it off." He doesn't stop there, but continues, "The book also embodies a philosophy of life. The weight program is the content of the book, the philosophy of life is its form." If Descartes had sat down to write a treatise on losing weight as a metaphor for maintaining discipline amidst life's vicissitudes, it would have read much like this.

Clearly, Mr. Watson has not written a low-fat, new-age, easy-fix solution for the weight challenged. After all, losing weight is hard work. But for our money, it is the most erudite, fascinating, and eccentric book ever written on the subject of weight control, a combination of common sense (driven by human experience), Cartesian philosophy, and the presumption that understanding the mysteries of weight loss and the universe are somehow compatible, even sympathetic, ambitions.

The author is (of course) a professional philosopher, and this extraordinary exegesis is at once a moral manifesto, a philosophical discourse, and a practical manual (although the chapter on "How to Live" and "How to Die" take it a few steps beyond the ordinary). We love this book for its humor, its iconoclasm, and its weird and wacky mixture of high seriousness and low humor. Read it. Even if you're not overweight, it's a book to treasure. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting to the gut of the problem
I think this is a profound book. It tries to address the fundamental issue behind changing who we are. It is not your traditional weigh-loss guide, even though it does a great job at that too, rather it transcends all such quests for self-improvement with witty, powerful and real insights. Read it for your own sake.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Philosopher's Diet
This book was the biggest waste of time. I didn't expect a traditional weight-loss book, but I did expect some insight into weight loss or philosophical principles.I found neither.Maybe it was over my head, but I found a lack of wit.It was a total bore! The title seemed self-explanatory, but I felt robbed, not so much of my money, but more importantly, of my time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ahhh-the muffins!
I first read this several years ago, and instantly liked its unabashed quirkiness.Yes, 900 calories a day is probably not healthy, but the message to eat less and move more is right on!I started making the muffins way back then, and though I have tweaked the recipe somewhat over the years, it is all that flavor and grand fiber that I love, and I start every day with one of these gems. Thanks to Richard Watson, I think I look pretty good for an old lady!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a fun book.......more helpful than most diet books!!
What an enjoyable book. This may be helpful to both lighthearted (myself) dieters as well as those more serious ones. Thanks to Mr. Watson, counting calories doesn't seem so boring or even restrictive anymore. It may be my newest noble pursuit to build my character and along with exercise I will strengthen my spirit and eventually my cause...to change the world.
Loved this book. And by the way, 900 calories is just a number. I think most readers can make the leap that depending on your age, activity level, muscle mass, metabolism, ect., one may need more calories per day. I mean, the author is a philosopher for goodness sake!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Philosophy of Personal Change
Do not buy this book expecting a regular diet/nutrition book!Rather buy this book if you are interested in an intelligent writer's musings on personal change interspersed with amusing and moving thoughts and anecdotes.I enjoyed this book very much and got some great new insights into an approach to personal change which just might include some dieting as well. ... This is the best self help book I have ever read.It helps you understand why you binge eat so you can address the underlying cause.Because of the painful stuff that can come up, this is not for the faint of heart, this is for anyone who is serious about healing from the core.

5-0 out of 5 stars LIKE NO OTHER DIET BOOK
This is a psychological approach to weight and eating. It is differnt than any other Diet Book because it focuses on emotions and why you eat and more importantly about the issues that cause you to eat.If you can deal with the issues and emotions on your own then this book will deffinetly work for you.I am a great advocate of Doreen Virtue and her work and loved this book.I believe that it has given me the tools I need to stop eating when I am stressed.Thank you Doreen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Would love to rate it but I can't!
I ordered this product from some pathetic third party. My money was taken from my account immediately.About two weeks later I was told that they didn't have it - sorry.I was also told that my money would be refunded in about a month.I tried to contact the third party but the e-mails wouldn't go through.I contacted Amazon and told them a month was unacceptable. They told me there was nothing they could do.I received my money back in one month and will never use Amazon again.Do yourself a favor.Don't order this book or any other from Amazon.com.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tasty, easy to follow & Brit Friendly
A great follow-on to his previous diet books and these recipes are no less tasty. When tasting some of the dishes you have to ask yourself if you're REALLY on a diet.
The recipes are very easy to follow and cover all meals from breakfast through to dinner and even snacks
British users will find it a breeze as all the units are `Brit Friendly' and practically all the ingredients can be found in UK stores.
The downside is the lack of pictures to know what the meal should look like- that's always helpful.
Many of the menus have flour and or other high carb ingredients although often in small quantities so they may not be suitable for very low carb regimes such as Atkins induction diets.
Vegetarians will be disappointed too as the selection is somewhat limited.
Overall though, this is an excellent book and one to be highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to stop the diet yoyo and be normal
If Not Dieting Then What?I have a compulsive addictive personality and have yoyo dieted for 50 years. I lost 6 stone then gradually over 20 years put most of it back on. Recently I have lost 17 Kg but put 5 kg back on doing weights at gym. I sought my doctors help and he recommended a local psychologist and dietician which I then attended in my local community centre and they both recommended this book. On their recommendation I have stopped weighing myself and resigned from the local TOWN (take off weight naturally) club after 2 years. My psychologist said that while I was obsessing about getting weighed every week and obsessing about "good and bad" food I would never come to terms with my overeating (which I mostly do in response to emotional issues). Also that I would never experience normal eating. They were both right and for the past three months I eat what I want when I want and have remained the same weight over this period of time. (I weighed myself so I could pass this on to you). I want to lose about another 15Kg but if it happens Good - if it does not that is OK too as my body is telling me what weight I need to be at present. I feel free of the oppression of dieting and have never been so content and happy inside. I feel I deal with emotional issues better than ever before.
I attend gym twice a week, do water aerobics once a week and play lawn bowls at least twice a week. I am 69 and retired 2 years ago.

Product Description
In their breakthrough book, The New American Diet, the Connors developed a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet that dramatically reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and high blood pressure. Now, the overwhelming amount of products and information about cholesterol can be confusing.

The New American Diet System takes us to the next step, providing a unique system that simplifies food choices for people with high cholesterol. Since both saturated fat and cholesterol in foods increase cholesterol in the blood, the Connors developed the CSI -- the Cholesterol-Saturated Fat Index -- the only complete measure of the true heart-healthiness of foods.

This indispensable reference:
-- makes food choices as simple as choosing from 1 to 10 (the lower the CSI, the better)
-- provides easy-to-read charts rating hundreds of foods -- including many brand-name products
-- eliminates confusion about high-fat, low-cholesterol foods (such as tropical oils) and low-fat, high-cholesterol foods (like shellfish)
-- offers more than 300 recipes for tasty, low-CSI versions of your favorite dishes as well as suggested menus
-- helps you compute your own CSI so you can set new dietary goals.

A straightforward, comprehensive resource for anyone with high cholesterol, or anyone concerned about dietary fat, The New American Diet System is an essential part of every cholesterol-conscious kitchen. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Love-hate relationship
I purchased this book on the advice of a dietitian, with the goal of lowering my husband's cholesterol. It has lots of minuses and a few pluses. I am constantly scribbling my own comments on the recipes, because they do not appear to be carefully tested or thoughtfully written. For example, some recipes say simply to put the ingredients in a baking dish, without specifying that you lightly oil it or use a nonstick one, and then at serving time the food sticks disastrously to the dish. With other recipes, after several tries -- first following the recipe verbatim, then adding my own variations to punch it up -- I have crossed them out as hopelessly dull. Another problem I have with this book is the binding, as many of the pages detached themselves in a short time. Finally, I have to nail them for listing as separate recipes "Skinny Burgers" and "Very Skinny Burgers," when the only difference is the amount of ground beef used. (Hello? Editors? Anybody there?) That said, there are some lovely recipes that even my fussy husband enjoys (e.g., curried chicken and peanut salad, homemade ramen, and oysters in crusty French bread), even though he often threatens to burn the book or throw it in the garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Commendation for the Connors
This book was/is extremely helpful to me as an individual recently diagnosed with idiopathic cardiomyopathy.I do have a degree in Biology, but I think this book would be just a readable if I did not.Not only doesthe extensive list of foods and their CSI numbers help me on a daily basis, but also the recipes which designate the fat content, fiber, calories, salt, CSI number, and number of servings and/or serving size.I am amember of Weight Watchers because I recognize that even being overweight alittle adds extra capillaries to be pumped through to feed that fat, putting additional work on the heart. The calories, fat content, fiber, and serving size are needed in Weight Watchers to use their point system. I'm also on a salt-restricted diet ...another content number given.Ioriginally checked this book out at the public library.I am now orderingit on Amazon.com.I've researched a number of books via the library butonly ordered a few. That should tell you how valuable this book is to me. Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and authoritative, guide to control of high lipids.
Dr. and Mrs Connor are, respectively, a world-class lipidologist who teaches at the Oregon Health Sciences University, and an amazingly competent dietician who cooks each recipe in this book 5-6 times herself. The Connors devised a method by which you may determine, by means of a single number, to what extent a particular food is good or bad for your arteries (foods ranging from fruits to Big Macs) - it is called the CSI or Cholesterol Saturated Fatty Acid Index. You use the book as a reference or as a cookbook: pages of foods are listed by category, with their CSI, and number of grams of fat; the recipes are well-written and tasty. The index is complete and easy to access. I use this book constantly for the education of my patients with hyperlipidemia. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
What a great book very informative.Things that this world needs to learn now. Things regular Medical Doctors are not taught in school. Thank you. Very quick shipment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Greatbook, but lifestyle is too expensive
I received the book within a week of purchase and that was great.I was so excited because My Husband, and I as well as my brother in-law were going to start eating the makers diet way, but the only problem is that when I went shopping, I found that all the vitamin and supplements way too expensive, and organic food prices are through the roof.We are Christians and believe in what Jordan speaks of in the book, but the truth is the diet is way to expensive for the common every person to follow.

4-0 out of 5 stars As seen on Crossmap.com
Wow. This book is definitely not for dieting sissies. The Makers Diet for Weight Loss offers readers an "extreme makeover" from the inside and out. Rubin begins his book by making the case for eating only organic, non-processed, whole foods--and then goes on to spell out a well-planned, easily-understandable 16 week strategy for losing weight and cleansing the toxins from your body. The Makers Diet is over 300 pages long, and bursting with information about everything from good and bad foods, to overall health facts, to a quiz on "What's Your Nutritional Type?" (I'm a "meat type" in case you're interested). I will say that I found some of Rubin's ideas extreme, but for the person interested in a radical change in the way they think about, shop for, prepare, and eat food--this is the book for you. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not very many healthy options...
I have to say I'm really disappointed in this book. I haven't read any of the other Abs Diet books but I picked this one up looking for a convenient meal plan and recipe ideas. In the meal plan, they recommend a smoothie a day and almost every single one of them has ice cream and/or chocolate syrup in the ingredients. If you're looking to adopt a healthy lifestyle, a 50-grams sugar, artificial meal plan is not the way to do it. I would not recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should have this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected

5-0 out of 5 stars Variety
Lots of delicious recipes I would never have found or tried on my own.Losing weight and feeling energetic or feeling sated don't often go together- With this program, you have it all!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars The Rice Diet Renewal
The books suggests a general low-fat diet, which includes rice and other grains, lean meat and vegetables. I expected to learn more about the benefits of whole grain rice and veggies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Need to read the others first

I think this is a good book if you have read the
original diet as it does not go into a lot of detail
about the diet, but it does cover all the aspects of
trying to lose weight.I really watch my sodium after
going through this book and it does help lower my
appetite and with out caffeine I do sleep better.
It seems like a good diet as it lets you have bread,
lots of fruit and veggies, but very little meat.
I think it is a diet someone could stick to for a long
time.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth the price
I was somewhat annoyed that the price of the kindle version of this book was so much---I mean, it costs virtually nothing to produce.Still, I wanted the e book and so I paid for it.I would do it again, it was worth it to me---but I know a lot of kindle readers will be put off by the price.

I have all the rice diet books.I have done the rice diet off and on for a long time.I don't know why it makes me feel so good, but it does. However, staying on it very long is rough.I always enjoy the books because I love to read about the truly miraculous recoveries in them---and the people running this program are not quacks---they are at Duke and are doctors or well-educated professionals.I have said and will say again, it should be called something else because it sounds like foolishness---like the banana diet or the tomato diet. And, the research behind the rice diet is just so phenomenal. It works.

I am only into chapter 3 but I ran across a story in chapter 2 (I think) that was worth the price of the book.A woman had left the rice diet program and returned and was even in better shape. And when Kitty asked her what she was doing, she said she had a weekly rice day. Now, I can manage a weekly day.I have something I love which I call Christmas rice and it's just organic brown rice (which you can buy cooked and frozen) and cherry tomatoes and avocado.I love it and I only eat it when I am on the rice diet because that way I look forward to it.So, doing the one day a week is a great idea---she describes it as a detox day---but in the past weeks of doing it, I find it is more of a focus day.By that, I mean that when I do the rice day, I also rest and find relaxing things to do.I pray and bathe and listen to music and read---just sort of re-energize.As she points out and we all know, the mind and emotions are so interrelated with our eating and having a relaxing day just sort of helps me regroup.

Getting back to the story, this woman with the one day commitment said she always had a breakthrough on her rice days.So I have begun looking for breakthroughs on my Christmas rice days---and you know, she was right.I have had more than one each time.I have started looking forward to my CR days, just to see what sort of revelation I am going to have.I don't just eat Christmas rice, BTW, I also have fruit and juice if I get hungry between meals. And I can start the day feeling resentful and not wanting to do it, like yesterday, and by the end of the day, I feel so good and I remember just how much I love the way the rice diet makes me feel.

I have read for years that sugar and salt are bad for you, but until you actually experience the absence of these things in your body, you really don't know if it's true or just some new theory. If you have never read one of the rice diet books and you have a health problem, you really should make an effort to look into it.It is pretty much what it says, you eat rice and fruit. You also have to make sure you get some sodium or you will get very light-headed---I know this for a fact. And, as I said, they have the medical research and proof that it can heal your body of so many things. The medical accounts are worth the price of each of the books.I wouldn't start with this book, I'd start with the Rice Diet book if this is new to you, because from what I can tell (I have only read part of this one), it really is not going to tell you all the things in the original book.

I love books and I always think it's a way of attending a seminar without the airline fare, the cabs, the hotel, and sitting in some hotel conference room eating icky food squashed in with a lot of people. So, I love books---even if it's an e-book that cost almost nothing to produce. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review
Miracle cure stories abound when it comes to natural healing. A super nutrient reverses cancer after chemotherapy has failed. A Chinese herb lowers high blood pressure in a patient with heart disease after being dismissed as quackery by doctors. Jordan S. Rubin’s account of returning from the medical abyss, however, includes an original twist. After several years of battling Crohn’s Disease, which included a small fortune spent on both conventional and alternative treatments, as well as trips abroad in search of help, Rubin weighed only 111 pounds and, at just age 21, thought his life was over. At the urging of his father, a naturopath, he contacted an obscure nutritionist in California promoting a diet based on the teachings of the Bible. Yes, we’re talking what Jesus ate: kefir, lamb, sprouted breads, eggs and meat from free-range chickens, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Rubin also started to pray and added a new powder supplement containing homeostatic soil organisms (HSOs) to his diet. Four months later he weighed 170 lbs and was on the road back to his former athletic and healthy self. Inspired by his experience, and now with advanced degrees in nutrition and naturopathic medicine, Rubin has crafted The Maker’s Diet. While the faithful will surely find the book of interest, Rubin’s command of the scientific issues underpinning his recommendations may also appeal to those more accustomed to studying food labels in search of what to eat than ancient religious texts.--Patrick Jennings ... 1-0 out of 5 stars God's food?
I have not read the book cover to cover.I was enjoying this book until I read the section on microwaving.Jordan says that he and his wife chose not to have a microwave in their house and then went on to say that they never had trouble heating up infant formula.HUH?Infant formula? For a man that says he wants his family to eat close to God's plan he sure is far off by feeding his own infants engineered food with chemical additives.A woman may have a choice to feed her baby human milk, but if he is going to make money on a book telling America to eat that way, then he sure better be feeding his own children as God intended. The nonchalant way he addressed it was very irritating to me. I have stopped reading the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST health resources out there
An amazing resource that draws together God's design for the optimal health of our bodies and current research about how we can best take care of ourselves.Jordan Rubin compiles key scriptures from God's Word about how the CREATOR of our bodies designed them to function. He expands on that information to explain why the Lord's way is the always BEST.It is absolutely remarkable how our diets consisting of processed foods (and other ingredients we were never meant to consume) are linked so closely with sickness, disease, and early death. We can actually ELIMINATE illnesses like cancer and heart disease if we care for our bodies the way they were meant to be cared for!Read this book if you want to learn how to eat to live and feel what healthy really feels like!

5-0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC!
I love this book and lifestyle. It is embedded in ancient truth and modern science. I don't necessarily buy his "magic dirt" thing. That seems like it may be more marketing. However, this theory resonates with me, and the diet works with my body. Great practical application!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read!!!
Love this book! Jordan Rubin wrote this well! I'm sharing it with all my family members even the skeptics!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Maker's Diet
I liked the information in the book. Rubin is a bit long winded for me, but I believe his story is intriguing. The diet is excellent! He uses Biblical references throughout the book and provides good information that is usable. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointing,I am returning it.
Here is what I liked about it:

1.Showed how to use different spices, spice combining and gave descriptions of each spice.

Here is what I don't like:

1.Recipes don't start until page 74 of 185.
2.Many recipes have ingredients not allowed on P2!The author should have at least divided up sections for
P2 and P3 recipes.
3.No portions listed in recipes! When you are on a diet that is this restrictive it seems negligent to
list recipes in multiple portions leaving the dieter to figure this all out on their own.
4.Veggie combining?!Many recipes list multiple vegetables which anyone who does this diet knows is a
no-no on P2.I guess you can refer back to my #2 above.

Very disappointing overall and this book was 24.99 retail. I will be returning it and looking for something that more accurately and easily helps someone on the HCG diet.

I really liked the info in the book on all the foods I was allowed to eat on the HCG diet, it was very helpful, thank you

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST HCG cookbook EVER!
I love this book.I especially enjoyed reading about the different foods. Some of them I had never heard about and I liked learning about them. And the recipes are excellent. My family loves what I cook for them and they are not even on the diet!I just wish there were twice as many recipes. This book along with the HCG diet is really helping me reach my desired weight.

1-0 out of 5 stars This was a waste of money!
I bought this book to help me with my hcg diet protocol.I wanted recipes to make my endeavor a more enjoyabe one, with meals that would be tasty and satisfying. This is not what you'll get with this book.

First off, the book is in very LARGE print, I think to help add pages to the book itself. And to aid in adding pages, one page is devoted to a vegetable, fruit, spice, recipe, etc., (get what I mean?)

Up to page 73, a page is devoted to telling of a fruit or vegetable, I'm serious, unbelievable!

The actual recipes start on PAGE 74!Page 74 for example is: STEAK.The recipe: Steak, Kosher Salt, and Freshly ground Black Pepper. That's it!The recipes are also mixing vegetables which is not allowed on the protocol.

I don't want to bother you with more, but trust me, avoid buying this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This cookbook has been a LIFESAVER!
I received my cookbook two weeks ago and it has made the HCG diet SO much more manageable. My friends and I who are all doing HCG got together for a "cooking party" and made 10 of the recipes. The Bangladesh Beef Curry is to die for, the Spinach and Chard Meatloaf is so good I would serve it at a dinner party, also loved the unique flavor of the Chicken Apple Chard.YUM!

The recipes are easy and the print is big which is NICE.As far as serving sizes and how to count the dishes in the HCG program, I just measured out the 100 grams of meat (or a little less because it's the cooked weight) after cooking. If the recipe called for a lot of veggies in the dish I just estimated the calories (just use common sense and overestimate if unsure).

Let's be honest...you've got to do this plan for either 23 or 43 days so you've got to learn to eyeball things (along with weighing of course).I've been eating from this cookbook for 13 days and am down 10.5 pounds so far!

If you are tired of trying to figure out ways to spice up chicken, shrimp, beef, to make it palatable you NEED this cookbook!
