Some districts were just single schools or even one teacher. Traditionally school districts in British Columbia were either municipal, which were named after the municipality such as Vancouver or Victoria, or rural and given a regional name. Many districts' names are a legacy of this pattern. In 1946, the Ministry of Education rearranged the province into 79 school districts, giving each a number and a name. It is located in Oak Bay, British Columbia, Canada. Roughly 1275 students attend in grades 9 to 12 in both regular and French immersion programs in two buildings, called East and West. The first high school in Oak Bay was opened in 1915 where the Oak Bay Municipal Hall now stands. However this school was quickly over crowded and replaced by what is now the East Building at the school's present location on Cranmore Road in 1929. A junior high school was constructed on the other side of the school yard opening in 1958. The two schools were joined in the late 1970s.
