Product Description
This up-to-date and comprehensive set of two CD-ROM discs provides a superb collection of official Federal government documents on the subject of viral hemorrhagic fevers, Ebola, Marburg Virus, and Lassa Fever. Viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHFs) are a group of illnesses caused by four families of viruses. These include the Ebola and Marburg viruses and Lassa fever virus. VHFs have common features: they affect many organs, they damage the blood vessels and they affect the body's ability to regulate itself. Some VHFs cause mild disease, but some, like Ebola or Marburg, cause severe disease and death. For patients, practical information is provided in clearly written patient education documents. For medical professionals, doctor reference tools and texts have detailed technical information and clinical background material. There is no other reference that is as fast, convenient, and portable - everything you need to know, from the federal sources you trust. This thoroughly researched collection presents vital information from many authoritative sources: Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the relevant institute for this disease, and others. In addition to the comprehensive disease-specific coverage, this disc set also includes our Medical Encyclopedia, a $19.95 value! The Encyclopedia presents a collection of official documents about a wide range of medical topics, diseases, illnesses, health and wellness. Product Description
Marburg and Ebola virus, the two species within the family Filoviridae, are among the most pathogenic agents causing fulminant hemorrhagic fever in humans and nonhuman primates. The chronology of filovirus epidemics and epizootics proves that these viruses are prototypes of emerging/re-emerging pathogens. Since the discovery of Marburg virus in 1967 until the recent Ebola virus outbreaks in Central and West Africa filoviruses have not only raised the interest of scientists, but have also been a matter of high public concern. With the advent of recombinant DNA technology our knowledge on the genome structure and the replication strategies of these agents has significantly increased. This volumes gives an overview on many aspects of filovirus research and summarizes recent advances in the field. The topics addressed include the molecular biology of filoviruses, pathogenesis, epidemiology, immune response, as well as clinical aspects and diagnostic measures. ... Read more

I read the books, Ebola and The Hot Zone and I thought they were outstanding.I saw the movie Outbreak and ever since then, I have been fascinated with the Ebola virus. The two above books are the only ones I was able to locate, but I saw the TV movie based on Robin Cook's Outbreak, along with reading the book.I just wanted to comment that I am soo caught up in this virus, I recommend any Ebola-related movies, books, etc. to anyone!!I think it is perfect because it is a thriller that is real and really exists. It really makes you stop and wonder ...
