Product Description
This textbook provides a complete course in

quantum mechanics for students of

semiconductor device physics and electrical

engineering. It provides the necessary

background to quantum theory for those starting

work on micro- and nanoelectronic structures and

is particularly useful for those going on to work

with semiconductors and lasers.

This book was developed from a course the

author has taught for many years with a style and

order of presentation of material specifically

designed for this audience. It introduces the main

concepts of quantum mechanics which are

important in everyday solid-state physics and

electronics. Each topic includes examples which

have been carefully chosen to draw upon relevant

experimental research. It also includes problems

with solutions to test understanding of theory. For

the second edition significant new material has

been added to each chapter, providing updated

connections with relevant experiments and device

concepts. New references and new problems are

included. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Anyone Who Wants to Read About Electicity

Benjamin Garver Lamme was George Westinghouse's chief electrical engineer and his efforts perfected the harnessing and utilization of electrical power as it was thereafter practiced in the USA and throughout the world.

He was a modest and retiring man, an Ohio State graduate, who took a remarkable genius and focused it on the problems of making electrical energy practical.

If you remember the Great White City that was the Columbian Exposition of 1893 or the St. Louis Fair that Judy Garland sings about in the old musical film, well...none of that could have happened with out Benjamin Garver Lamme's contributions to the world of energy.

A little known sidelight is the story of his sister, Bertha, who was the first-ever woman electrical engineer and whose work alongside her brother helped make the night skies shine.Lamme refers to her and to his close kit family, as well as to Bertha's future husband, who was also part of the Westinghouse team, but a good bio just waiting to be written is Bertha's unique story.

Wind energy is safe and non-polluting and in windy countries it can claim to be the cheapest method of generating electricity that can be installed. It is only environmental problems that stand in the way of a massive expansion of wind power on a commercial basis. This volume presents the proceedings of a European Wind Energy Association Workshop dealing with the environmental issues that are being faced. It describes the progress that is being made in planning, safety, noise, TV interference, visual and other amenities, legal and institutional matters, effects on wild-life and other topics including the option of off-shore siting. ... When you are wracking your brains, trying to solve a complex, seemingly unsolvable problem, sometimes you just have to go back to the basics. To find a solution, you start at the very beginning and review the mathematical rules, laws, and formulas that that are at the root of every electrical engineering problem. This is when you reach for the Mathematical Handbook for Electrical Engineers. Whether reviewing basic algebra and geometry or delving into differential operators in curved coordinates, the handbook always gives you how-to examples that you can readily apply. These examples are taken from a wide variety of electrical engineering disciplines, including circuits, devices and systems, antennas and propagation, waveforms and signal processing, and stochastic radio engineering. The appendices allow you to quickly reference major mathematical formulas and equations frequently used in electrical engineering, including stochastic simulation algorithms that are typically scattered over numerous books and papers. The next time you need to get back to the basic math of any problem, turn to this handbook -- your single source for applied mathematics in electrical engineering. ... Read more
