Cute "Little" Baby
Nicely designed and written look at a baby Asian elephant named Noorie. Illustrations are photos of Noorie in a simple, painted background. The text is large and each two page spread has about two to four sentences.For example, "Look at Noorie's long trunk. She uses it to drink. Noorie sucks water into her trunk. When Jeremy, a young boy, spends a rainy day sifting through boxes of toys and books his mother plans to give away, he becomes interested in elephants after finding a fascinating book about them. To satisfy his urge to see real elephants, Jeremy’s parents take him to the zoo and then to the circus. Seeing these amazing creatures in captivity leaves Jeremy feeling very disappointed. As the boy grows older, he saves money and learns all he can about elephants. His goal is to one day find them in the wild.

When the day comes for Jeremy to leave on this mission, he begins an emotional journey. In Asia, he discovers there are no wild elephants left; only captive ones survive. Wild elephants can only be found now in Africa, he is told, so he makes the Dark Continent his next destination. In Kenya, near Kilimanjaro, Jeremy finds a guide who takes him on a safari to see the wild creatures he has devoted his life to helping. His heart sinks, however, when he is told by the guide that only one bull elephant remains in the wild.
