Product Description
Engineering ethics is the field of ? applied ethics which examines and sets standards for engineers' obligations to the ? public, their clients, employers and the profession. This article addresses the subject for both professional engineers and other engineers. Engineering does not have a single uniform system, or standard, of ethical conduct across the entire profession. Ethical approaches vary somewhat by discipline and jurisdiction, but are most influenced by whether the engineers are independently providing professional services to clients, or the public if employed in government service; or if they are employees of an enterprise creating products for sale. In the United States the first are usually ? licensed Professional engineers, are governed by statute, and have generally consistent codes of professional ethics. From the supplier: Corporate culture plays a big role in fostering ethical business practices. As a rule, companies that institutionalize their commitment to good business ethics are the ones more likely to develop high standards of business conduct. Institutionalization, in this case, usually comes in the form of a declaration of the company's ethical responsibilities. This declaration of commitment is typically upheld through such mechanisms as corporate structuring, credos, ethical codes, training programs, ethics committees and social audits.

From the supplier: Businesses can thrive without severely damaging the environment. Such is the guiding principle that led to the McDonald's-Environmental Defense Fund partnership. With its waste reduction policy, McDonald's Corp has reduced its use of materials and has used recycled materials. Furthermore, it has introduced into its corporate culture a new business ethic that enhances the growing environmental concern. With the positive consumer reception that the program has generated, other companies may soon follow McDonald's example.
