Product Description
When it comes to the planning, design, construction, and management of engineering systems, risk and uncertainty are unavoidable. The consideration of the risk involved in any situation, project, or plan becomes an integral part of the decision-making process. Risk and Reliability Analysis: A Handbook for Civil and Environmental Engineers presents key concepts of risk and reliability that apply to a wide array of problems in civil and environmental engineering. The authors begin with an overview of the art of making decisions in the presence of uncertainty and then explain the fundamentals of probability that will be applied throughout the book. In the second part of the book, the authors discuss various techniques used in probability distributions and parameter estimation. A third section of the book considers different aspects of uncertainty analysis, especially risk analysis and risk management, providing instructive examples. The final group of chapters addresses reliability analysis and design, focusing particularly on the important area of water distribution networks.Ample illustrations and detailed real-life examples make Risk and Reliability Analysis essential reading for present and future engineers in the fields of civil, environmental, biological, and agricultural engineering, as well as the watershed sciences. ... Product Description

Environmental microbiology is an essential component of most senior undergraduate courses taught in environmental engineering, and to some extent civil engineering. However, there are not many textbooks available and most of the ones that are, assume basic biology knowledge. Microbiology for Civil and Environmental Engineers is an ideal text for civil and environmental senior undergraduate and graduate students. It is specifically targeted at environmental engineers with little to no biology training, and provides a thoroughly up-to-date introduction to these rapidly expanding subject areas. Each chapter includes quizzes and tutorials with instructor’s solutions available in a separate solutions manual with qualifying course adoption.

Product Description
Water and wastewater engineering is one of the world's biggest and most interdisciplinary industries, employing chemists, microbiologists, botanists, zoologists as well as engineers, computer specialists and a range of different management professionals.

This accessible student textbook provides a broad overview of the sector, introducing the reader to the key concepts of water technology by explaining the fundamentals of hydrobiology, aquatic ecosystems, water and supply and wastewater treatment.

In 2000 the Water Framework Directive came into force - this is the most substantial piece of EC water legislation to date. Professor Gray uses the Water Framework Directive as the unifying theme of this new edition taking into account the implications of compliance and practice, as well as discussing the topical issue of sustainable principles in water management.

. Covers water quality and regulation
. Deals with water quality assessment, management and treatment
. Includes a new chapter on sustainability within water technology ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A well-written introductory text
This interesting introduction to water technology is suitable for self-study, for use as a text, or for reference. It has an international flavor (EU/US), and its references reflect a goodbalance between North America and Europe. It provides clear, concise, and accurate explanations, and is broad in its coverage.U.S. college/university audiences will find it a viable alternative to standard textbooks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Water technology and the useless students
I was a useless final year engineering student, too much beer and late nights l suppose. This book saved my life...its clear, simply written and covers the area of water technology really well.

4-0 out of 5 stars A student engineers's view
This book is clear and concise easy to read, and informative. As a student of civil engineering I found it interesting and useful, as an overall text book and also for reference. It is one of those books that I shall still be refering to in years to come. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars ( not only ) For Europan readers ..
As an introduction book, this book is success to aim the mission.Part one contain aspects to get an environmental design, and the author seems to play tactically. Mention the aspects, then give an explanation briefly in aproportional matter ! There will be no long tiring explanation here, andits disccusion is good enough to open our mind. It's an introduction book, isn't it ?

One IMPORTANT thing. This book is written by UK engineerieringconsultant. Means that most of resources data given here is only valid forEuropa / northern hemisphere region. For example,"...buildingorientation should face south to take advantage of the sun'senergy..."( ch. 4 ). Heating aspects, insulation, heat losses and many'cold climate zone' aspects can also found.

On my opinion, despite ofEuropan point of view, this book is still useful but we must have fewknowledge about the aspect to modify the contents for our own purposes.Part two this book contains case studies, all is Europan building.Interesting topic, you will find aspects from part one is apliedhere.

After all, it's good introduction book to start learn aboutenvironmental design, with the best using for Europan / northern hemisphereregion readers. ... Read more

Product Description
This book contains 29 select papers spanning over 40 years that deal with urban water resources. For the past four decades, members of the ASCE Urban Water Resources Research Council (UWRRC) have made extraordinary contributions to the field of urban water resources planning, design, and management. They have collaborated to prepare reports, technical memoranda, conference proceedings, and other documents on wide-ranging subjects. This book documents these four decades of unique contributions by the UWRRC, with papers that are as timely and provocative today as when they were first published. Readers will be struck by the foresight and perspectives of the Council members from decades ago on such subjects as: drainage and flood control, stormwater quality management, water supply planning, risk assessment, public involvement and participation, and the role of the water engineer in society. This book presents the evolution and primary underpinnings of urban stormwater management, and will be beneficial to all stormwater management professionals. ... Read more

Product Description
This proceedings is a collection of thirty-two papers, addressing the current state and the advancement of the integrated management of surface and ground water systems. With the population growth and increase in land development, comprehensive management of sustainable water resources related to water supply, water quality, wetlands, and recreational issues becomes increasingly important. In order to address these issues, an integrated approach (combining planning and rule making with technological development) to manage the water resources is more critical than ever before. These papers explore the integration of the ground water and surface water systems into water resources management plans to solve problems in the areas of aquifer storage and recovery systems, artificial recharge, stormwater management systems, water quality studies, watershed planning and management, wetlands, and modeling. Topics covered include aquifer recharge and water supply; conjunctive use; modeling and case studies; planning, management, and permitting; and wetland, water quality, and best management practices. ... Product Description
Environmental engineering is a unique discipline of engineering that deals with the specific issues of emissions, waste disposal, water & soils
engineering. Engineers in practice are increasingly held liable for increasing constraints placed upon them by environmental laws and standards. What industrial, chemical, plant, and process engineers need to
know is how do they meet the requirements of enforcement agencies (such as the EPA) standards and justify the expense to operations and finance departments.

This guidebook shows practicing engineers in the industry how to implement systems that will achieve manufacturing, business efficiency and
environmental compliance at the same time. Here is a guide to the actual technology at the disposal of plant designers, specifiers, engineers, and managers that will give them the answers to the questions that other
sources simply do not address.

The text of this book has been kept extremely user-friendly despite the extent of its contents. An engineer who has to interface with non-engineering personnel, including members of the public will find the
book will do the talking for him. This is particularly valuable in a rapidly emerging field that is misunderstood. Professors of environmental
faculties will find the book useful for capstone courses and for general reading.

Broad enough to be suitable for anyone with interest in the environment
Covers environmental engineering and economics in one book
Takes an optimistic perspective on the future situation of the environment ... Read more
