Angelic Organics is a 1000 member Biodynamic Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) vegetable and herb farm located in north-central Illinoisbetween Chicago and Madison. We are entering our 13th year growing organically and our 10th year as a CSA. We manage 80 acres, 25 of which grow vegetables and herbs that feed over 1000 families in the Chicago area. Our on-farm community generally consists of 4 managers, 3 support staff, 3-5 interns, and 3-5 field workers. The assistant field manager (with field manager) is responsible for all aspects of planning, growing, and harvesting the vegetables, managing a 6-12 member field crew and managing an intern program. Requirements: at least 2 years of growing experience crew leadership experience interest in Biodynamics computer literacy willingness to learn field Spanish a minimum 3 year commitment U.S. citizen or, if not, must be authorized to work in this country for at least 3 years into the future. (We cannot do this for you and will only consider applications from those who are already eligible to work long term in the U.S.)

Over time, we have placed increasingly greater weight on agricultural economics rather than farm management, but agricultural economics has continued to be a major field in our department. Some aspects we emphasize include: Agriculture is going through processes of a transition. Its share of the GNP has been declining, yet it has become part of a large agribusiness sector that includes input suppliers, major distributors, and manufacturers of value-added food and fiber products. ARE is expanding and developing a program on agribusiness that emphasizes: Two research approaches in Agriculture being taken: Advance the state of knowledge on general research issues and use agriculture as a case study to apply our general approaches. For example, ARE faculty have made important contributions over the years to general economic theory regarding decision making under uncertainty, industrialization, market power, contracts, marketing and other areas, and have applied these new theories it to problems of agriculture in California and around the world.

Being "developmentally progressive," it has a history of constantly pushing the envelope of what is economically feasible or even possible. While failures are an integral part of the experimental process, The Farm's successes are numerous and dramatic. We recognize that there are many paths toward realizing personal ideals and that people have a wide range of individual social values, but as a group, we do not accept the use of violence, anger or intimidation for solving problems. The conference featured presentations from international farmers as well as researchers, agronomists and farmers from across Canada in over fifty sessions focused on the latest in technology, environment, agronomy, and management. There was tremendous response to the Friday Super-Panels, and the "Farmers Helping Farmers" workshops, as well, the agricultural showcase was sold out one month prior to the conference. Over 95% of the delegates who completed a conference evaluation indicated that they received good value for their registration dollar, and that they are planning to attend the conference again next year.
