Product Description
You may think you’ve heard everything about the modeling industry from Tyra Banks, but Sex, Love, and Fashion is the real behind-the-scenes scoop, from a true insider who is considered one of the top ten male models of all time.

In the glamorous galaxy of modeling, Bruce Hulse was a supernova. Taken under the wing of famed photographer Bruce Weber as a fledgling model, Hulse went on to collaborate with the industry’s biggest names as one of the world’s top male models.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the exciting world of top models was filled with sex, drugs, and countless other indulgences. Bruce Hulse is one of the most recognizable figures of that time; from his iconic Calvin Klein and Levi's ads to his appearance on the cover of GQ, his face defined an era. In Sex, Love, and Fashion, Bruce shares the true stories of his globe-trotting career working with some of the industry’s biggest names–Calvin Klein, Janice Dickinson, Herb Ritts, Elle Macpherson, Andie MacDowell, Paulina Porizkova, and Cindy Crawford among them–and also details the exhilarating successes and painful failures he experienced on his way to the top.

Bruce Hulse pulls back the curtain on the life of an international supermodel and reveals everything the cameras don’t expose. Sex, Love, and Fashion is a dishy, sexy, and honest look at what really happens to beautiful people playing in the often decadent fields of fashion glory. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read
I may be one of the few people to have read the book that had no idea about the fame and success Bruce has achieved in the fashion world. My interest in reading the book was due to our paths crossing at Cornell way before he became a model.
What surprised me was how much I enjoyed the book. Bruce's story is really a universal tale of searching for happiness and peace in our lives. For Bruce, the path took him into a world that many people only fantasize about. Yet in spite of living this fantasy life, there is a common thread that we all share of how without love and peace in our lives, we will never find happiness.
For someone like myself, who has no interest or knowledge of the world of fashion, to enjoy this book makes me believe that almost anybody will also enjoy it. It is very well written and I could easily see this story on the big screen someday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Male-Modeling:Behind the Scenes
Recently I finished Mr. Hulse's book.If you're looking to get into modeling, this isn't a how-to book! You'd probably be wiser to take a few candid photos to an agency.

In my opinion, Mr. Hulse presents an extremely honest view of his life. He's been blessed with an outstanding "look."Yes, luck and timing played well in his success. However, I found that his read was more like having him share his viewpoint with me in a coffeeshop.

His early acceptance of Buddhism seems to have basically given him a balance concerning not only his spiritual well-being, but his work, his personal relationships, his defects of character or shortcomings; and finally, his acceptance and love of his family and his friends.

If you're in need of a positive success story absent of egotism, this work is for you and for right now.

Sit, relax, and I sincerely hope you thoroughly enjoy your getting to know Bruce Hulse!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, simply excellent.
Gorgeous? Check. World traveler? Check. Adventuresome? Check. Spiritual? Check. Male model? Check. Destroying stereotypes? You better believe it.
Bruce Hulse proves to us the models we see are not all vapid pools of materialism and false purveyors of hope, sex, and a better life if we buy what they're selling. His book chronicles not only his rise to fame as a male model but also his amazing journey of self discovery.
Bruce shows us that not all pretty faces are the same. He is very smart and has had some great life experiences that he chronicles well. His retelling of his close friend's death had me in tears and his account of tantric masturbation had me laughing out loud. He is also not ashamed to talk about his fight with depression. No matter who you are, depression can seize you. He shows us that it doesn't matter what we look like, how much money we have, who we love, where we live, or who our friends are--depression can affect everyone.
And while reading of his sexual escapades was thrilling it was even more thrilling for him to find his true love, his balance. What good is great sex when you have no one to share a life with? Bruce clearly took advantage of being surrounded by gorgeous models (and really, who wouldn't) but the emptiness left him searching for something more tangible, something more meaningful.
Sure movies like Zoolander make fun of male models and I myself snickered when I picked up this book but within a few pages I was sucked in, he is a good storyteller and is great at painting the picture of his life. Bruce has had a wonderful life and chronicles his ups and downs well. He also gives us a backstage look into the industry of fashion, especially when it was at it's peak in the 80s and 90s. Simply put, I could not put this book down and highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful trip, a wonderful surprise.
I thought this book was absolutely fantastic!

I initially purchased the book after seeing it featured on a News Magazine Show.I thought that the book would be an entertaining read with a behind the scenes picture of modeling and intimate relationships with many of the women who are now icons in fashion, movies, and television.

And that it was - at the beginning.

As I progressed through in my reading, I found myself really liking the voice of the book, really identifying in my own way with the trials and tribulations he was experiencing: the depression, the new found fame, and the shock that some good and bad things do remain the same after you "make it".

The book became more than two handfuls of chapters about modeling and traveling around the world. It became a story. The growth that the author so wonderfully and honestly portrays is a treat to behold. The bonds with friends and loved ones through work and play, in the book, guide you through some amazing decades of emotion. And as any good story goes, whether fiction or non, the ending is truly special.I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sex, Love, And Fashion
Sex, Love, and Fashion uncovers the Soul that sleeps in glamour.Bruce's book is spiritual literature in disguise. His journey begins with initial realization as he heads towards a career in psychology and philosphy but then life takes a left turn sending him on a trek of bodily delights and temptations.Never losing touch with his own soul, Bruce reaches a higher rung of the spiral in an integration of a deeply embodied spirituality that honors family, beauty, love and life.

Bruce's unexpected and extraordinary life speaks to everyone because in Big it reflects the journey we have all signed on to make.

2-0 out of 5 stars too obvious
this book contains nothing new.just stuff you can find surfing in the internet for a few hours.not worth reading it-the things are too obvious.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not many secrets revealed
The author tries to cover many subjects (skin, hair, body, cellulite, exercise, makeup, style, clothes, stress, spirituality...) in a small book (little over 150 pages). So, she doesn't go into any depth - you probably know almost everything written here. But, scattered throughout the book, there are some useful tips and product recommendations. Unfortunately, I am not sure if they are worth the 10 bucks. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that special...
i wasn't very impressed.i bought the book for an airplane ride and was very disappointed to find how often the author wrote (these are examples) "you can find great ones online" or "skin care tips online" or "list of top best photogs worldwide online."i didn't have a computer and i wanted to know what they were talking about.if you don't have access to a computer 24/7 this book is not for you.EVEN if you have access to a computer 24/7 this book is not for you cause than you CAN look it all up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Model & Talent 2001
I think this book can help me a lot for what i want to do in my career because i had always wanted to be a model. People always say that i should be a model because of my body and beauty i really want to get into a school of modeling but i dont know which one i cant find one right now i'm 16 yrs old and i want to start now. So i wish to order that book to know whats up in modeling.

1-0 out of 5 stars Runway, Runway, Runway
This book concentrates both in text and photographs, on runway modeling. Generally, runway models (outside small towns) are models who have already 'made it' in print modeling (editorial and advertising). This book is sorely lacking in the fundamentals of modeling -- like finding out where you fit and where your potential lies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Modeling Career
Because I am in New york I have a lot of chances to get into the modeling world. Finally I have a good guide to help me get started. I especially love the runway photos which are exciting and very well done. This is agreat book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Really Recommend this book.Excellent!
For someone who lives in a country outside the United States,it is a good thing to find a book like this one which emphasizes theuse of the Internet to find out about the modeling business. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about becoming a model but does not know where to start. There is so much info in it, that having used only a tenth of it, and I'm already happy with my investment. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Try calling or mailing the agencies listed in this book
You'll find a lot of incorrect or outdated information and a number of agencies that are not particularly well thought of in the industry. If only Ms. Matheson had researched things a bit more carefully, this book mighthave been a useful tool.

Lips, brows, frown lines--they’re all in motion in an expressive face. Stop Staring analyzes facial structures and movements and shows animators how to enliven the faces of their characters. The author, whose own handsome head (in modeled form) graces the cover, is an experienced animator currently working on The Sims.

He writes with a dry wit and a confidence born from experience. The book is friendly but also loaded with content and precise in its directions. "I am by no means God’s gift to animation, but I do pretty well at making a talking head look like a living one, not just a set of gums flapping." This is not a how-to manual, but a richly detailed guide to achieving the right movements for a given situation and emotion. The companion CD includes all the pieces readers will need in order to work along with the text: models (both realistic and stylized ’toon characters), lip-synching samples, finished Quicktime movies, and even a copy of Maya Personal LE. (More info and some movies can be found at jasonosipa.com.)

Readers move from "Getting to Know the Face," to synching audio, working on the mouth, eyes, and brows, and rigging. Osipa has created a methodology for facial animation that gets results and makes the process fun. The book can be used as a step-by-step guide for learning new skills or finessing techniques, or as a reference book for troubleshooting specific expressions (for example, "happy eyes," "frustration," and "sneers" are all in the index). Although the projects are presented using Maya, the concepts involved pertain to animation in general.

There are lots of production tips and, in Chapter 13, case studies using five scripted scenes. Readers can even begin with this last chapter, watching the movies (they’re funny!) and enjoying Osipa’s debates as he works through animating his face telling a lame bartender joke or a sassy ‘toon gal weighing the pros and cons of pink and blue bows. This hip writer knows what he’s talking about, even when it’s his own animated mug that’s doing the talking! --Angelynn Grant ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Late is better than never
I purchased this book ages ago now... but I thought I should give it a quick review...

This book completely changed they way I look at head modeling, facial animation, and lip sync.

I highly recommend this book to anyone even slightly interested in learning more about any of these topics and looking to create an edge in their skill set... I consider this book a 'killer app' of sorts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
An advanced crash course in facial modeling an animation.Of course there is a million ways to do one thing.
This book gives you a great balance of technique and tried and truly production tested solutions for limp syncing and animation.

I recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Information
This book gives you a new way of working around lipsync. If you have been syncing for sometime and its the part of animation you have trouble with, or if it takes a large portion of your time this book is something you should consider. I previously was going about animation of lipsync in a way, that wasn't particularly wrong, but was much slower, and less efficent, and all and all produced poorer results. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Reference
I didn't know such a detailed book exist. Jason coveredin detail every part of the elements that make facial expressions. Now my characters can express feelings. I stongly recommend this book to beginners, intermediate or advanced users. ... Read more
