Over the course of the 2,165 NHL contests he oversaw, Fraser has shown himself to be an unbiased, courageous, and sometimes controversial judge.

In The Final Call, Fraser provides a highly entertaining, honest, and sometimes hard-hitting look at the game and its many faces and changes over his record-breaking career. Product Description
The 1960 Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley, California, literally introduced winter sports, particularly ice hockey, to the American public through television.During the average minute the Olympics were on the air, 26.1% of homes with sets (black and white only) were tuned in.

Twenty million Americans watched the nationally televised game between the U.S. and Russia on Saturday afternoon, February 27; more than the combined audience of all other programs on the air at the same time.

Squaw Valley Gold tracks the struggle over control of amateur hockey in the United States¡ªfrom the world tournament at the 1920 Olympic Summer Games in Antwerp, Belgium to America's first gold medal in Olympic ice hockey, a largely misunderstood and forgotten period in the country's sports history.

The Squaw Valley Winter Games were known as the Hollywood Olympics.Walt Disney programmed the pageantry and invited his Hollywood friends to the party.Euopeans fretted and fumed over the Disneyland atmosphere, but the athletes (housed together in a private Olympic Village) and spectators had a great time, rubbing elbows with Bing Crosby, Marlene Dietrich, Jayne Mansfield, Roy Rogers, Red Skelton and Danny Kaye.

Product Description
This book is written for young players from 13 to 15 years and 16 to 19 years of age and is an adaptation of my first book by the same title.

It is fundamentally important that kids have fun playing hockey and also have fun in acquiring the fitness levels to play the game to the best of their ability. Most would agree that you get more fun and enjoyment out of a game when you are skilled enough to play the game well. It is our belief that in order to learn many of the skills in hockey, you need to have sufficient fitness to do them well and to practice them regularly. For example, you need leg strength to use your skate edges for speed, to do outside drives, and to change direction. You need flexibility to stick handle or make a great pad save and you need upper body strength to establish position in front of the net, to battle for the puck in the corner, or cycle down low to keep possession of the puck. Good acceleration, braking, and agility are necessary to get open, to capture space, and to be effective in the transistion from offense to defence and vice-versa. And, along with all of this, you need good aerobic fitness for recovery between shifts, between periods, in back-to-back games, and over the long season. Coupled with all of these is the proper nutritional strategies so that you can have the fuel to work and lay hard, the nutrients to bild strength and faster muscles, fluids to replace sweat losses, and the proper balance to keep you healthy.

In my experience with Olympic teams, Canada Cup teams, NHL teams such as the New York Rangers for whom I presently work, and my experience as an educator and coach of young people, I have learned so much from teh coaches, trainers, management, and, especially the players. This book attempts to bring together this knowledge to help young players gain the fitness necessary to be the best they can be and have fun doing it. ... Read more

Product Description
Saskatchewan is well known for its wheat, big skies, and social innovations. It’s also renowned as a hockey hotbed. The NHL would not be the supreme league it is today without the many Saskatchewan pucksters who have skated and scored for all the pro teams. But Saskatchewan hockey is more than a breeding ground for the NHL. Indeed, Saskatchewan has a hockey culture all its own.

Yorkton writer Calvin Daniels has been following Saskatchewan hockey for years. In Guts and Go, he writes about the pervasive hockey culture that thrives in rinks and arenas throughout the vast province. In these entertaining stories, readers will discover not only some of the well-known stars, but also the players and teams that bring excitement and pride to communities.

Here are the true-grit stories of Saskatchewan hockey. Meet Jack McLeod, who won a World Hockey Championship in 1961 with the Trail Smoke Eaters; Fred Saskasmoose, the first Native in the NHL; and Mike Merriman, three-time captain of Canada’s deaf team and twice world gold medallist. Some of the community stories include the Regina Silver Foxes, who made national news headlines when they finally won a game after chalking up the most consecutive loses in the SJHL; the Lloydminster Blazers winning the province’s first Allan Cup in decades; and, of course, Wilcox, home to Notre Dame and its internationally renowned youth hockey program. Stories about Saskatchewan stars include the amazing Haley Wickenheiser, Tiger Williams, Red Berenson, Clark Gillies, and many more.

Guts and Go is written for anyone, young or old, who enjoys hockey and hockey stories. ... Read more

A Wild Look at Life in Hockey...To millions of Canadians, Don "Grapes" Cherry is the irascible co-host of "Molson Hockey Night's Coach's Corner," whose controversial, candid and highly spirited commentary has endeared him to hockey fans throughout the provinces. A larger-than-life figure in the annals of hockey, Cherry has done it all-from minor league player to head coach of the Boston Bruins to gregarious commentator. His is a story that only he could tell-because no one else could do him justice.

BY THE MAN WHO'S SEEN IT ALL! Favorite of the fans, players and press, Cherry takes you battling through the bush leagues, where the stick-swinging defenseman put up with the bus rides and burgers-while the NHL live like kings. You'll relive his glory days in Boston, where he clicked as coach until teh Bruins blew the Stanley Cup-and Cherry got blamed. You'll find out why he had to say :no" to teh dream chance of coaching the Maple leafs. You'll meet players like Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky...the managers and owners who blackballed him...and Blue, the white bull terrier reputedly the brains behind his coaching success. Undoubtedly the most colorful character who ever laced up a pair of skates, Cherry offers a no-holes-barred account of his triumphs, his defeats and his remarkable comeback. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD GOOD READ
DON CHERRY HAS BEEN AROUND HOCKEY FOR YEARS AND HE HAS MANY GOOD STORIES AND INSIGHTS TO PASS ALONG. THIS BOOK CALLED GRAPES HAS ALOT OF GOOD STUFF IN IT. IT JUMPS AROUND BUT THE READER GETS HOOKED ON THE HUMOR AND CONTENT OF THIS MUST READ BOOK. IF YOU LIKE OLD TIME HOCKEY THEN THIS IS FOR YOU.RECOMMENDED.

4-0 out of 5 stars Grapes Book Gift
I haven't read the book...it was a gift but by their reaction...it must be pretty good if you're a Bruins fan!!:)

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as a shorty
Love him or hate him, (and there's no other choice with Grapes!), Don Cherry is a part of every hockey fan's life at one point or another, whether via CBC's Coach's Corner or his playoff appearances on American networks every spring. Inevitably the question is asked: Who is this guy, and why do we have to listen to him?!? This book is the answer.

While it's no War and Peace, it's much meatier than most of the glorified pamphlets that athletes put out and call books. Written in a semi-linear stream of counsciousness style that would cause Hunter Thompson to give a knowing nod, "Grapes" gives just the right amount of dry fact, combined with juicy conjecture, to merit turning the page and find out what happens next. Priceless stories about minor league hockey abound, many of them about Eddie Shore, a name recognizable to anyone who's ever paid attention while watching the movie "Slap Shot". This book is a primer for any hockey fan who wants to understand our game from the ground up. There are of course Bobby Orr stories as well, but the post-Bruins days provide story fodder as well. I never gave a thought to the day-to-day operations of most hockey teams, let alone the late, lamented Colorado Rockies, but this book made it interesting, laughable, and ultimately pathetic.

"Grapes" was written before Mr. Cherry became an icon, when he was just a glimmer in the eye of the CDC production staff. It's nice to see that his attitude as displayed on Hockey Night in Canada is not a manufactured affectation, but that he's always been exactly who he is. Mr. Cherry comes off as opinionated, stubborn, gruff, irritating, and loveable all at once, exactly as he still does every Saturday night during hockey season.

I would recommend this book for any sports fan, let alone anyone with an interest in hockey.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good book and I like Don Cherry very much, but...
I get the feeling it could have been better.
It was nice when it came out, as it was nee-
ded but an updated version is badly needed.
Didn't Red Auerbach, Celtics great write books
up into his eighties? Well, 'Grapes' is "only"
73. Come on, Grapes, write another one about
your Hockey dominated life, pls. And get Ron
MacLean's help. I wanna hear about those Ladas
in Montreal as cabs at the airport!

4-0 out of 5 stars Don rules, but I've read better books
For a hockey read, this is pretty good. However, for a truly 5-star book, "Thin Ice - A Season in Hell with the New York Rangers" truly puts this one to shame.Although I love Don Cherry, after reading this book, I have to admit that when I was finished with it, I came to the conclusion that alot of the problems that he's incurred in his life seem to be self-inflicted. . yet he seems to want to possibly deflect them off as being always the blame of someone else.In alot of the cases that's true, but in some instances, I cant agree.I will say this though, after reading his book, I can understand Don's devotion to his past wife Rose; she truly must have been a wonderful person. ... Product Description
As the title suggests, this book, Doug Magwood's first, relates the story of the Toronto Maple Leafs as they progress through the 2001-2002 NHL season towards their ultimate objective, returning the Stanley Cup to Toronto. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

This book takes the form of a journal. It begins in early September 2001, as the players assemble for training camp, and concludes in the Spring of 2002, when the Leaf season comes to an end. Whether the players succeed, or fall short of their main objective, the book depicts a day-by-day chronicle of the struggle to attain professional hockey supremacy.

The author has been a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs since the 1950s. His book is written from a fan's perspective. He does not profess to have any means of acquiring "inside information" about the team. The opinions that are expressed in the book are his own. He also brings to this journal more than 40 years of devotion to the Maple Leafs. This work started out as a mere retirement pastime, but as it developed, the author began to envision a more ambitious and potentially useful outcome.

For more than a year, the author has been a dialysis patient at this fine hospital. He has come to admire the skill and dedication of the doctors, nurses, and technicians who provide more than 700 life-sustaining treatments each week to people like himself who require kidney dialysis. He wants to help them.

ALL author proceeds from sales will be donated directly to the Renal Department at the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario

In its final form, Heart and Spirit - The Toronto Maple Leafs of 2001-2002 - A Fan's Journal contains:

* a prologue written and contributed by a former Toronto Maple Leaf player
* testimonials contributed by personalities from the world of NHL hockey
* player profiles
* role descriptions of team management and support staff personnel
* team and individual player objective setting and evaluations
* recognition of the "Top 25 Leafs of All Time"
* game-by-Game progress charts and summaries
* 2002 Winter Olympic Games Achievements
* triumphs and trials of an NHL season
* the drama of playoff action
* glimpses of Leaf opponents throughout the NHL

This book is an accurate account of the regular season and playoffs as experienced by the Toronto Maple Leafs. It is an historical document, embellished by the views and opinions of a long-time fan. The author does not claim to be any kind of an expert in the game of hockey, but he tries to portray an appreciation of both the game and the Toronto Maple Leaf hockey organization... one of the 'original six' in the NHL.

It was the author's hope that, in the final analysis, the Leafs would win the Stanley Cup in 2002, thereby returning it to Toronto for the first time in 35 years. Though the hope wasn't filled, this book tells the story of the successes and disappointments which invariably have to be dealt with by every professional sports franchise on the planet... not just the Leafs.

Doug Magwood has tried to make this book easy to read, interesting, and a volume that will be a keepsake for Maple Leaf fans everywhere. ... Read more
