4-0 out of 5 stars Not a good first impression
What I like about this book is that the ingredients are easy to find, the recipes are not complicated, lots of photos, brief comments about the cookies on some recipes, great tips, and allergy information.

So, today I came across the "Pumpkin Pick-Ups" recipe. The photo looks like a thin, crusty type pumpkin cookie. Now I can hold my own when it comes to sugary sweets, but this was WAAAY too sweet! I threw it out. The consistency was more like pie and not one of the crusty looking pumpkin cookie slice (p. 201). I used un-sweetened rice milk, which is still naturally quite sweet. So adding sugar to that, was yucky sweet. This basically crustless pumpkin pie had just as much sugar as a real pumpkin pie. I did follow the recipe exactly, minus the flax meal. Maybe that was the differnce in texture.

Over-all, that was not a good first impression of the book, but I am willing to try a few more recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lot of allergy friendly options
This book has a lot of allergy friendly recipes. As with any allergy friendly recipes, they are not all great, but it is nice to have a selection.

5-0 out of 5 stars pretty awesome
this book is very easy to follow and everything i have made so far has turned out awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh air!
After making the "Mini-ficent Pancakes" for breakfast this morning, and having my non-allergic husband come in and say, "Which ones are mine?" I was reminded that I had to come and write a review for this book. The pancakes look so appealing, you could not tell the difference between the allergen-free ones and the just add water ones I was also making for the rest of the family.
I have two children with multiple, severe, food allergies, among them wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, and corn, which any allergy mom knows, excludes seemingly all baking ingredients, and many of their usual substitutes.Prior efforts at pancakes and other desserts were so complex (unknown and hard to find long lists of ingredients), time-consuming, and ugly/poor tasting, that it had been a while since I even attempted making any treats for my two "bubble babies" :)
In contrast, this book has simple (few ingredients), easy-to-follow, and tasty recipes that allow you for onces to feel adequate in feeding your kids something they are begging for and able to enjoy. My kids got to see what it was like for their non-allergic sister to be asking for their food/treats, instead of the other way around. At Thanksgiving, they could have sugar cookies (that they helped decorate) and pumpkin pie, rather than having no dessert at all.
If you know the frustration of trying to cook for people with allergies, this book will be a breath of fresh air and renew your hope and energy in trying to make life and food a little more "normal".

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoy Life's Cookies for Everyone!: 150 Delicious Gluten-Free Treats that are Safe for Most Anyone with Food Allergies, Intolera

5-0 out of 5 stars you have to read
this a personal story, non medical, but persornal from a normal man, but you can learn a lot of non conventional idea about your illness, when your doctor fail... this book win.
The autor resolved because found the problem, all doctors say "no more to do"

You have to buy, because you a have to find a solution, this book help you in this hard walk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book!
The correct title is actually Curing Food Allergies and Common (not "Other") Illnesses!

Wonderful theory and makes sound common sesnse. It is a health discovery - the world's first relating to the food allergy condition - that is approached like a detective story.

Its the author's 30-year search for a solution to his illness, which he linked to foods and therefore found himself being tagged a "food allergic" person.

Wonderful stuff; he says that behind MOST chronic illnesses is low body temperature - not just food intolerance (allergies).

He says that the low body temperature attracts parasitic micro-organisms WHICH ARE TEMPERATURE-SENSITIVE!

These parasites lodge in the blood vessels, reducing blood flow at wherever in the body they reside. That causes the symptoms AT THE SITE WHERE THEY LODGE.

As they are temperature-sensitive, and the patient will almost certainly have low body temperature (which equates to ill health anyway), by RAISING the body temperature (through the diet that he gives), the health disorder - and indeed most chronic health conditions - can be overcome!

Excellent and highly original!

Product Description

A revised and updated version of the definitive peanut allergy book.

Since the publication of The Peanut Allergy Answer Book in May 2001, there has been much additional research published in the field of peanut allergy and anaphylaxis in medical literature. This research includes new diagnostic tests, new vaccines and therapies, and new information on the history of peanut allergy. In addition, there has also been a great increase in public awareness of the societal impact of peanut allergy, such as in schools and other child-care facilities, in restaurants, and in the food and restaurant industry. This attention has led to the publication of guidelines for schools in the management of food allergies and anaphylaxis, to legislation such as the Food Allergen Labeling Consumer Protection Act of 2006, and proposed legislation for restaurant guidelines for food-allergic consumers. The incidence of peanut allergy has doubled in the past five years and continues to increase so the impact of this medical problem, particularly in young children, is enormous.

The Peanut Allergy Answer Book, 2nd Edition,. contains 50% of new and revised material, including a new foreword and introduction, as well as new chapters such as, "Why has peanut allergy increased so much in the past 5-10 years?"; "What is the difference between being peanut-sensitive and peanut-allergic?"; "What is the Hygiene Hypothesis?"; and "Can skin contact cause an anaphylactic reaction?"

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This was an excellent book.It gave answers to many of my questions and it gave me the background information I needed to understand my daughter's peanut allergy. Her allergist was very helpful but this book filled in all of the gaps.I would highly recommend it to anyone new to peanut allergies.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Guide Book
My neice has peanut allergies so this book was an eye opening read on the topic. Good information even if it is a little dull as expected.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
Love it! I know a lot about peanut allergies and this book taught me even more. Simple to read and understand...very detailed and great for those who want to learn about peanut allergies. Good for parents, friends or teachers of those who send time with PA people.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!
This book is wonderful in it's descriptions and examples of different reactions.I wish that when my daughter was first diagnosed with her nut allergies that the Dr would have recommended this book because it answered so many questions that he did not.I had searched for information on-line and had read tons but this book has it all in one place. This book is a must read for anyone who cares for a child with peanut allergies.

4-0 out of 5 stars big book, but not for the layman
i got this big and expensive book to add to my collection. it was very scientific, but could be understood by a keen layman. it provided useful information on every area of food intolerance and possible treatments via food. A good book for my collection, but only useful if you want to self treat and your doctor has no clue of this area. Probably cheaper to read this book first then do all those (some bogus) food intolerance tests and blood prick tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great too the point, no pompous drawn out vocabulary
The previous two reviewers did a great job about how great this book is. The book is large, but uses large text & lots of blank space to make it seem less intimidating. Also, there are only a pages of paragraph text on each topic, it's not an exhusting read. The tables for all the foods or also skincare & cooking items is great.
You can easily just flipped through to your possible allergy easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for those looking for lists of foods they can eat
I have this book and would not part with it no matter how high the costs go for this!I purchased this several years ago when my children were dx'd with various food allergies and intolerances, specifically to gluten and casein.I handled that with little help from this book, ONLY becasue I got this after we were on that fully. However, my daughter was more recently dx'd by biopsy with overall disaccharide deficiency (produces no enzymes for breaking down maltase, sucrase, lactase and palatinasa) and not one professional working with her could give me a diet plan for her (not the GI, the Immunologist, or the nutritionist they referred me to, who gave me two pages printed off the internet on the SCD...which was not going to work on this one).
This author has amazing credibility, her book is well written (I love research), and she explains in simple terms each of the various digestive problems and lists specifically which foods one can eat and whch to avoid. The lists are priceless. You'll know more than the doctors or the nutritionists who should have this book already.I suggest this book to anyone who is having or been dx'd with food intolerances or allergies. It's turned into a bible at our house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Food Allergy and Intolerance: An excellent compendium
Dietary Management of Food Allergies & Intolerances by Janice Joneja, PhD, RDN is the most comprehensive book I've read on the topic. The author's credentials as a health care professional are impressive. She isan immunologist, medical microbiologist, and a registered dietitian.Credentials like this, to my knowledge, are very rare.

The book coversevery aspect of food allergy & intolerance. It is written for both thehealth care professional and the lay public. It is well laid out andincludes scientific information at the beginning of each of the 37chapters.

The book contains a comprehensive method to detect culpritfoods. It then details the foods you need to avoid and the ones you areallowed (by food group)for each food sensitivity. In other words, if youare sensitive to certain foods, you are given all the information you needto balance your diet using alternative foods.

The chapters on irritablebowel syndrome (IBS) and pediatric food allergy were of particular interestto me. The IBS recipes in the appendices are very good. The author'sapproach to IBS really works! Her theory is to rest the irritated bowelfirst (no rough foods - let it heal first) and then gradually add foods. You soon know which foods are causing you problems.

The pediatric sectiongives lots of valuable information on how you can help your baby avoiddeveloping food allergy. It is especially useful if either or both parentshave a history of allergy. The author gives a diet for breastfeedingmothers to follow. There is a chart to guide you on which foods to feedyour baby at each stage of life (from birth to 2 years).

There arechapters on specific conditions - such as diets for migraine, Crohn'sdisease, urticaria & angioedima (hives & swelling), attentiondeficit disorder (ADDH), and eczema. Other chapters include specificmethods if you are sensitive to nickel, sulfites, egg, grains, soy, peanut, yeast, molds, milk, lactose, chocolate, fish, shellfish, tyramine, histamine, food coloring agents, salicylates, benzoate, MSG, nitrite, nitrate, and/or butylated hydroxyanisole.

The author advises the readerto consult a physician when using the book.

Dr. Michael Lyon (MD) refersto Dr. Joneja's book in his new book "Healing the HyperactiveBrain" .

I attended an international symposium on SustainableMedicine at Oxford, UK last year. Dr. Jonathon Brostoff who is the firstchair of allergy in a UK medical school and is recognized throughout themedical world as an expert in allergy stated on the lecture podium that Dr.Joneja's book is by far the best ever written on the topic.

Dr. Brostoffhighly recommends it. It deserves to become a standard reference text, according to Dr. Brostoff's colleague, Dr. Michael Radcliffe.

I highlyrecommend Dietary Management of Food Allergies & Intolerances tophysicians, dietitians, community health nurses, and to people who sufferfrom food sensitivities. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Special Diet Celebrations
Doctor placed me on a gluten-dairy free diet and this book explains way of cooking without these items. The recipes in the publication are simple, tastie and fulfilling. It is well written and easy to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected!
Very informative book, but you'll have to reference the substitutes for certain ingredients in the recipes from the back of the book.Don't know why the author didn't already do this in the original recipes, but all in all, the meals are various and good.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST for anyone with dairy, egg, wheat, & gluten allergies
Our 4 year old son has multiple food allergies. We started cooking dairy, egg and peanut free 10 months ago and we recently had to add wheat and gluten to the list of banned foods. This is the only cookbook that I could find that provided recipes that are wheat, gluten, egg and dairy free.Don't worry, if you can eggs and/or dairy this is still the cookbook for you.The recipes are given with and without eggs and dairy.I have used the dessert section extensively and some of the breads and breakfast recipes.

This book has been a lifesaver for our family.Anyone with a small child knows that they still want bread, pancakes, chocolate chip cookies, birthday cakes, and brownies.Everyone in the family enjoys the food we cook using this book - even our 2-1/2 year old.

The only thing I would caution new users on is to thoroughly read the recipes before starting and you may not want too many little helpers in the kitchen the first time.My first try at pancakes had to be disposed of!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is wonderful!
Since I have checked this book out from our local library about five times, I guess it's time I bought one!I just baked the scones and I could not believe they did not use wheat flour, and I was the one who baked them! This book is wonderful and I honestly don't think I could stay gluten-free without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful recipes and menus for special occasions
This book was a tremendous help to me when I had to cook for weekend guests - since I was gluten intolerant and didn't want to make two different meals, this book contains recipes on how to make "normal" meals that everybody can enjoy, yet be gluten-free.What is especially helpful is the menu plans for special occasions - no more pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to serve. And when my birthday came up, I was thrilled to see all the different cake recipes I can use.The cake and muffin recipes I tried were light, fluffy and scrumptuous. My guests had no idea they were gluten-free.And there are even several cake shapes and decorating ideas that would be especially fun for children.I highly recommend this book for anyone that is gluten-intolerant or has food sensitivities. ... Very simple, to the point, easy to understand. My son is 3 3/4 yrs old.He has had peanut allergy since he was 22 months old.I try to support peanut free writings since they are so few.He sat through reading this, but he seemed bored. That may be him since he is very active and does not like sitting still. It is a great book to add to our library. He is to the point now where I need him to understand how to keep his body safe when playing with other kids.I think my husband needs to read this since he misses the connection of kids eating peanut butter sandwiches and then playing on the playground issue.I am glad I bought this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Allergy &Candida Cooking Made Easy
This is an excellent book and I have been using it during my cleansing
of all foods but veggies and proteins for the past month. I have never
felt starved which is amazing. Along with this way of well-being eating, and supplements, I have not felt lethargy, joint pain and bloatedness for the past three weeks. This is a very helpful book for finding out how food affects our energy and pain symptoms. Along with eating healthy comes a lot of cooking though!! After feeling so good, I now prefer to give up some of my busy life to devote to my health and well-being.

5-0 out of 5 stars Allergy and Candida Cookbook and much more
I would recommend Allergy and Candida Cooking Made Easy to anyone who suffers with food allergies and or candida. This book is so much more than just a cookbook, there's a lot of helpful information that would benefit anyone with these kinds of health issues. I didn't know anything about rotation dieting, this book not only helps set up that kind of food regimen but it has the weekly shopping list to go by as well. I'm sold on this book and highly recommend it to others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Information Overall/Other Good References
This book was useful for a number of things - easy cooking directions, lots of recipes, and information on how to set up a rotational diet.Additionally it includes basic instruction for those of us (me!) who don'tcook.

It did seem to introduce sugar a bit soon to the diet as comparedto other books and it did not incorporate other good nutritional theory asa base (such as food combining, acid/akaline theory, blood type theory,etc.).I used much of the information in this book, but modified it toincorporate things that work for me, such as not combining carbs andprotein in one meal, limiting certain foods like tomatoes, using vegetableglycerin for a sweetener, and etc.

Other very good references are TheBody Ecology Diet (Gates), the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook (Martin),The Candida Control Cookbook by Burton, and The Cure for All Diseases (Dr.Clark).

A tip:Go slow & don't overwhelm yourself with all this newinformation at one time! It's a big change to go from limited time in akitchen to spending most of your free time cooking.I've found it helps tocut out as many social obligations as you can while you rebuild your immunesystem and it really helps to pray for the strength to stick with thechanges you want to make!

I recently found by default that I am suffering from Candida Overgrowth and set out to find all the information on it that I could.I found a lot of books that told me what I needed to do and eat; however, I had troublewith finding any that had recipes of the kinds of meals or foods that Ilike to eat. Then I found this cookbook! It explained about Candida andgave a list of possible symptoms, and then it gave a list of what a Candidasufferer should and should not eat, and gave some information on some ofthe ingredients that it uses in the recipes. It explained the connectionbetween Allergies and Candida, as well.I hadn't really made theconnection.I love this cookbook. Now, I can watch what ingredients gointo the meals that I eat and I can really enjoy eating them (instead ofchoking them down) when they have been prepared!I waste less food andfewer ingredients! It contains recipes that are free of Sugar, Yeast,Wheat, Corn, Dairy and Egg. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CookBook for those with Severe Food Allergies
I bought this book after it was obvious that my children and I had severe food allergies. It has been most informative and helpful. It introduces foods you can probably eat because they are different, recipes for them, a sample rotation menu for 4 days, and sources for these alternative foods. Alternative natural sweeteners are also included, as are alternatives to baking powder, which usually contains corn starch or potato starch. There's something for everything, including multiple salad dressings, even if you can't have vinegar. I have referred to it repeatedly since buying it 9 months ago. I take issue with the negative reviews. Yes, the recipes are a little bland because they are so simple. They have to be simple to avoid too much borrowing from different food families. And she does warn readers not to be too fussy about the recipes & to just be grateful for what you can eat. She does have a recipe chapter for special occasions, including Christmas and Thanksgiving. She has gluten-containing recipes for those who can eat gluten. You can choose to avoid gluten, as we have. There are gluten-free recipes in this book. Unfortunately, there's not many, but that's not her fault. There's not much you can do with gluten-free grains unless you combine them all, which then defeats your rotation diet! In addition, if you're gluten sensitive, but not egg sensitive, try coconut flour. Coconut flour is gluten-free and makes delicious cakes BUT requires several eggs, no matter what you make with it. Coconut also has lots of healthy fats and fiber. There is a coconut flour cookbook for sale on the web, and Amazon may have it as well.
As for having spelt, gluten and goat milk recipes in the book, some can tolerate spelt, just as my son tolerates goat milk. That is why they are listed. You don't have to eat them if you're allergic. If you have to carry an epi-pen, or have had trouble breathing after consuming a food, DON'T eat anything related to that food! If you're only mildly allergic (i.e. skin rash, etc.) ask your doctor about trying other foods in that family. Her food family charts are great - you can look things up by name or by family number. I have added foreign foods to the charts in my book so I'll remember which family they're in.
Lastly, she talks about the importance of probiotics in treating food allergies and important tests you might want to have if you have severe health problems related to your food allergies. I had some of the tests done and they were real eye-openers for me!
Her personal story is included in the book and it is inspiring. When I get upset about not being able to eat a food, I read her story - she was allergic to everything, but has recovered her good health. Her son was severely food allergic, but can now eat everything after receiving EPD (enzyme potentiated desensitization) and then LDA (low dose allergen) treatments. This has given me great hope & she has more info on her website. Her other books are also well-written, so check them out as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Use it as an allergy guide -- not necessarily a cookbook
If you are looking for a guide to the many alternative foods available and how to rotate your food items, then buy this book.My mistake was getting it as a cookbook for my gluten-free, dairy-free, lamb-free, etc-free diet. The recipes I tried just didn't turn out as tasty as recipes from several other books, especially the baked items.

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible guidance on rotation diets
This book presents a rotation diet.Rotation diets are meant to preventnew food intolerances.Rotating foods means that if you eat a food on one day, you don't eat that food again or anything that might cross react with it until 4 days later.
I probably have celiac disease, and I developed reactions to all the foods I had been eating often, except for lettuce, radishes and vanilla beans. And I do have to rotate my foods, because I've developed new intolerances to foods I wasn't carefully rotating, even on a gluten-free diet. And no new intolerances to foods I *was* carefully rotating.Celiac disease causes mast cell overgrowth and that might be why I have the food reactions.
However, I haven't followed Ms. Dumke's guidance on how to rotate foods, I don't think it makes sense. There's good info on cross-reactions at the end of Brostoff and Gamlin's "Food Allergies and Food Intolerance", and it's consistent with my experience of food reactions. For example, he says that if you have an intolerance to soy you probably have an intolerance to all legumes.I've tried 5-6 different legumes and they've all made me sick. And everytime a food has made me sick and I've tried a food in the same genus, it's also made me sick.
Food cross-reactions are good guidance for a rotation diet:if you eat a food on one day, don't eat a food that's likely to cross-react with it until 4 days later. When I've done this with foods, it has prevented intolerances to them.
Dr. Brostoff says that rotating foods by family, which is what Dumke mostly does, is often overly restrictive and sometimes too un-restrictive.For example, people who react to one kind of fish usually can't eat any kind of fish, even if it's not in the same family. For many foods all you have to do is avoid foods in the same genus. For example I can't eat buckwheat (very allergenic stuff!).But I can eat rhubarb, which is in the same family. So you'll save yourself a lot of inconvenience and protect your health better by following his advice.
Also, her rotation diet has a gluten grain on almost ever day!The gluten grains - wheat, rye, barley and oats - are part of a single plant subfamily. No other food is treated this way, and it is very unhealthy to do this with gluten.According to Enterolab, an online lab which tests for gluten sensitivity, about 30-40% of people are somewhat gluten sensitive!Gluten may be the root cause of many food intolerances, perhaps by causing mast cell overgrowth, and an autoimmune reaction that damages the small intestine.People who have food intolerances perhaps should be on a gluten-free diet, even if they haven't noticed problems with gluten, because eating gluten may just perpetuate the problem.Little is known about how food intolerances work, at least my kind which make me groggy-sick for about four days, with sometimes back pain, frequent urination, irritability, increased appetite.Until it's better understood, it seems like a good precaution *not* to eat gluten, because much *is* known about the problems caused by gluten.
She believes in yogurt and the idea that food intolerances might be caused by imbalances in the microorganisms in the gut - which shouldn't be taken as gospel by people reading it, because it's an unproven idea.
Her book is very misleading. She does give many recipes for unusual kinds of yogurt or bread or pizza, yeast substitutes, etc.It could help people survive with their food intolerances.
My food reactions have gotten less severe in the 6 years that I've been gluten free and rotating my foods.Six years ago I would have to lie down when I had a food reaction, I sometimes felt like I wanted to throw up. I would go into rages, not realizing it was a food reaction.A few years ago I was severely sick in bed for a couple of months with food reactions.I had back pain so bad I couldn't sit up for more than a few seconds.Recently when I've had food reactions I've gone out shopping the following day.I tend to stand around and stare groggily in the grocery store, but I'm out there. And I feel maybe a bit irritable and keyed up.So, I believe the reactions are fading and in a few years I'll be free of that enormous burden of living on exotic foods.I seem to be healing on a gluten-free diet.
My guess about the reactions being from mast cell overgrowth is from a website by thefooddoc.Celiac disease is known to cause mast cell overgrowth in the small intestine.Dr. Lewey, thefooddoc, is an osteopathic gastroenterologist. He believes mast cell overgrowth causes multiple food intolerances. It has been shown to be associated with diarrhea. He doesn't mention rotation diets as treatment, but he does suggest that some antihistamines, probiotics and cromolyn sodium help.

4-0 out of 5 stars always check with your allergist
This is a good book for people with food allergies to read. However, people with very severe food allergies should check with an allergic before trying anything new. This book provides good ideas and information but some people will have to be careful. My son has a severe, life-threatening allergy to cow milk protein. Very small amounts of cow milk protein can kill him. The protein in goat's milk is very similar to the protein in cow's milk. I gave my son some goat's milk many years ago and it almost killed him. His allergist would never have advised me to give him goat's milk. Many people have food allergys but people vary with regard to how allergic they are. If you have to carry an epi-pen because of a food allergy, that is a sign to be very careful. That said, I still think this book will help people with known food allergies or with illnesses that may be related to eating food(s) that causes an adverse reaction within the body. A book will not replace having an allergist that knows how to test for food allergies. Complete removal of all traces of all types of milk protein from my son's diet has been the only way I've found to keep him safe so far. People suffering from food allergies may want to also read about adding enzymes from live food to their diet as another way to reduce the problems associated with food allergies. I have been studying food allergies for 11 years and there is always more to learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars being clear about allergies and foods
i must respond to the negative review posted.

goat's milk does NOT contain the same allergen as cow's, and IS often tolerated by many.the same holds true for spelt - it is an ancient, and therefore non hybridised, grain, and hence often less likely to provoke reaction.

therefore, TRYING new alternatives is always worthwhile, in order to maintain a broader range of foods in one's diet.to try a food, caution is always in order, and special safer procedures can and should be used.

i write this, because i feel the book in question needs to be seriously considered by all allergy sufferers.there is not enough written on the subject - and the suffering of those who have such profound difficulty with foods is immense.

please do not be put off by one review - such a wealth of information is worth serious consideration.every body is different, every allergy condition varies.just proceed with any changes with caution, and move slowly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just another allergen-free cookbook
I have several allergen free cookbooks. This is the best for baked goods I have found.
I am able to find all the ingredients at Market of Choice, some where available at Fred Meyer, others (but not all) were available at WINCO. These are all large grocery chains in the Pacific Northwest. I know I can get the ingredients through Azure Standard, which is a food co-op that delivers orders once a month from (last I looked) Montana to the Pacific coast through Nevada and into CA.
That said, my daughter has been baking muffins, cupcakes, and scones. We eat vegan with baked goods because of food allergies. All were light, baked high and had a lovely spongey texture. The scones were dense but light.
I recommend coconut oil and coconut milk as substitutions. There is a flavor (it is amazing in the Chocolate chunk cookies). I used coconut milk and safflower oil (I do not like canola) in a cornbread recipe (not Pascal's cornstick recipe) and it came out perfect. The coconut milk added sweetness and moisture, but the flavor was not noticeable. Awareness of flavors when making substitutions is helpful.

We checked this book out from the library before buying. I am planning to buy it. The recipes are not going to be exactly like recipes made with wheat flour and eggs, but they are the most flavorful, pleasing textured, airy goods we have come across so far. Be sure and read the tips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for all
Our family has been on Gluten -Free diet for the last 4 months and I was very excited to learn more about baking breads, cakes and cookies for my children. I have tried a few recipes so far and they all have turned out nicely. I am not a baker at all but have learned a great deal about gluten-free flours, substitutes and many new ingredients. I love that fact that it's very simple to read and follow directions, and best of all, my kids are loving them. It's helped us to explore and enjoy gluten free baking and eating!

2-0 out of 5 stars Aliergen-free Baker's handbook
The book is too technical and uses items that are not easily obtained and surely are not available in my store of kitchen items. There is a lot of good information about celiac disease but that is all that is worth having and I already have that from other sources. The foods are not the everyday foods that are used by most individuals.I would have to buy an entire new list of ingredients to keep just for the cook book to be useful to me and my needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars heaven sent!
This book has been SO helpful! My family is allergic to gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, and almonds and I was always struggling with making delicious, good textured, high quality baked goods and this book has laid it all out for me. Very helpful and informative as well. I would recommend it to all families!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Family Loves This Book!
This cookbook is fantastic.I can't rave about it enough. Both my son and I are gluten and dairy intolerant. As anyone who lives a GFCF lifestyle knows, it's not easy to make delicious allergy free cakes, cookies, muffins, etc. that don't come out all gummy and flavorless. Thankfully, Cybele Pascal has painstakingly created these easy to execute and yummy recipes that everyone can enjoy -- whether GFCF or not!Even my husband, who has never baked before in his life, has made cookies and muffins from the book with relative ease.Thank you, Cybele, from our entire family! ... Product Description
Food allergies are one of the most common chronic medical conditions. Dr. Ellen Cutler, a chiropractor and naturopath, has spent ten years studying enzyme therapy and nutrition and their relationship to allergies, asthma, immune disorders, and chronic diseases. Using methods derived from many disciplines -- including chiropractic, Eastern medicine, immunology, environmental medicine, genetics, and Western physiology and physics -- Dr. Cutler has found a way to combat allergies at their root: the immune response. Her system of techniques, called BioSET?, combines muscle testing, detoxification, enzyme and diet therapy, and chiropractic manipulation to desensitize people permanently to every kind of allergy, not only those caused
by foods.

To understand how Dr. Cutler's techniques work, it's helpful to think of the body as an electromagnetic organism in which energy flows along invisible pathways called meridians, or channels. Essentially, an allergic response is caused when these pathways are blocked by the immune response to an allergen. Dr. Cutler's techniques actually unblock these pathways, thus stopping the body's violent immune response. The Food Allergy Cure teaches you how to test yourself to determine the allergies you have and gives you simple techniques you can perform on yourself or your children to begin to lead an allergy-free life. In addition, there are helpful lists of foods and enzymes to correct digestive disorders such as lactose intolerance, chronic heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome, and constipation. Dr. Cutler also recommends foods that support the immune system's functioning and work to alleviate such disorders as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, fibromyalgia, colitis, herpes, and candida. This blending of Eastern and Western medicine is so easy to implement and will be hailed as a new paradigm of twenty-first-century medicine.

For the ninety million people who experience food allergies and haven't found relief in the usual approaches, The Food Allergy Cure offers a revolutionary program that allows sufferers to identify and alleviate specific food sensitivities immediately!

* Learn quick and easy methods to identify your allergies.
* Discover how to detoxify your body.
* Find the most effective means of eliminating food sensitivities.
* Take a self-diagnostic questionnaire to determine which specific enzymes will contribute to your optimum health.
Amazon.com Review
Since she was a young child, Ellen Cutler suffered from constipation, bloating, irritability, cravings, and fatigue from food allergies. Shelater studied chiropractic with an emphasis on nutrition. Through studyinga number of alternative therapies, she developed BioSET--a protocol totreat food allergies and conditions that may be caused by food allergies, such as asthma, headaches, ADHD, and many other disorders.

Cutler's theories, conclusions, and treatments may elicit raised eyebrowsfrom M.D. allergy specialists, although they are commonly used by naturopaths. She diagnoses allergies by means of muscle testing: the patient holds aglass vial of the allergen in one hand while the health professionalpresses down on the other arm, with weakness indicating allergy. Part ofher process uses acupressure to stimulate points on the spine to activateenergy blocks and reprogram the brain to stop identifying the substance asan allergen. Her treatment includes enzyme therapy.

Much of The Food Allergy Cure is a discussion of allergies, theirsymptoms (which can be just about any ailment, complaint, or condition),causes, and food triggers, with plentiful case studies of Cutler's successwith patients. There is very little actual self-help information here.Usually Cutler discusses a condition and its roots in food allergies, andthen describes how successful she is in treating patients with thiscondition using her BioSET system. The only at-home treatments described inthe book are muscle testing, acupressure technique, an introduction todetoxifying activities, and a number of dietary suggestions and recipes.Other than that, she advises you to consult a BioSET practitioner (you'redirected to the author's Web site for a referral list) and/or order theproducts she promotes. --Joan Price ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You have to read this book!
If you are a sufferer of any chronic condition, it is well worth checking out what this book and Dr. Cutler's other books such as Micromiracles have to offer. I'd highly recommend Dr. Cutler's books, and her BioSET technique, to anyone who is looking for a simple, safe, and effective treatment for food sensitivities and other allergies. As someone who has experienced and witnessed the results of this kind of treatment, and as a doctor who has listened to Dr. Cutler speak about it, I can say that she is a truly amazing woman who is just plain dedicated to helping people. She has both a Chiropractic and Medical Doctor's education, has done tons of research into the fields of nutrition, allergies, and chronic disease, and knows what she's talking about.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete and Total Garbage.
This book should double as an IQ test, because anyone with some basic critical thinking should be able to sauce through such amazingly obvious rhetorical chicanery. Here's the 'secret' of the book in a nutshell:

- The population experiences 'common' maladies like headaches, asthma, fatigue, depression, etc. ad infinitum. (IX, introduction)

- Around 90% of these 'common' maladies come from undiagnosed food 'allergies'. (Page 31)

- Every symptom that cannot be connected to a specific disease, from runny noses to depression to death, is based in food 'allergies'. (page 7)

- These 'allergies' aren't recognized as real allergies by immunologists and allergists because they only recognize 'authentic' allergies that result in immunoglobulin type E reactions, which produce histamines (among other things) and typical symptoms (watery eyes, runny nose, vomiting, throat constriction, etc.) (Pages 22-23)

-Cutler changes the definition of 'allergy' so that it is so wide, anything can fit."In this book, I will take a wider view of an allergy, as any negative or abnormal response in the immune system." (page 24)So, anything that causes ANY response in the immune system that is 'abnormal' (makes you feel poorly) is an 'allergy' (though if you read on, this need not be the case as 'allergic' responses can be immediate, delayed, hidden or only manifesting when stimulated by heat, cold, darkness or light. You may be reacting and not even know it!YIKES!)(Page 27)

- These food 'allergies' can discovered by applying George Goodheart's manual muscle test, where the tester pushes down on the arm of the testee while the testee attempts to resist, while holding the test substance (like white flour, or basically anything). If the testee's resistance is strong, they're not allergic to whatever is in the hand.If their resistance is weak, they are allergic. (page 9, chapters 6 and 7)

- Any 'typical' allergies, especially anything involving anaphylaxis, cannot be cured by Cutler's cure...though it is guaranteed to work on anything that SHE defines as an allergic reaction.

"An anaphylactic allergy is beyond the scope of this book and any home clearing, so seek out a professional if you experience that response." (Page 70)

Amazingly, if one cooks food, it's bad (page 3)

If one doesn't chew food enough, it's bad (page 3-4)

- People are likely allergic to any food that has undergone ANY genetic manipulation (page 38-39), contains additives or preservatives (pages 40-41) or been exposed to pesticides (pages 42-43).

- In a stroke of genius, Cutler recommends that people get tested for any of the MILLIONS of things that they might be allergic to.The list goes from pages 45 to 76 and includes calcium, any number of vitamins, iron, magnesium, zinc, sugar, sodium, any "chemicals found in foods" (Page 61. How general can you get?), amino acids, enzymes, meat, dairy, soy, grain, fruits, vegetables, water, etc.

Her recommended treatments, apart from buying her book?

- Try chewing your food at least 30 times (page 4), fasting (page 185), a different diet (page 187), exercise (page 192), Massage (page 195), drinking lots of water (unless you're allergic to it...page 198), changing your breathing (page 198.No kidding.),dry skin brushing (page 199), taking baths (page 200), taking coffee enemas (page 202.Mr. Kellogg's influence still is around a 100+ years later!), getting counseling or psychotherapy (page 207), living far away from high voltage wires (page 207), staying away from electromagnetic fields (page 207), etc.

And, of course, buying some of the wonderful products that she recommends.

So, in a nutshell, here's the books message:

Almost ANYTHING in the world, including water and any form of protein, can cause an allergic reaction.Using a simple form of divination (manual muscle testing is a straight up divination tool), you can talk directly with your atman (inner life force) and allow it to tell your mind, via the body, what is wrong with you and what your body needs. Then, try ANYTHING different in your life until something works and remember that the credit goes to Dr. Ellen Cutler and her BioSET methodology, not the actual life changes you make.

This book is a cacophony of misunderstood terminology, corrupted eastern mysticism, mind-numbingly bad logic and medical quackery that barely attempts to conceal itself.(On page 7, on a list of symptoms that indicate an 'energy imbalance', she includes death. She insinuates, though does not directly say, that she can 'cure' death.)Like most books I've ever read that promote alternative medicine, this book portrays 'established medicine' as an evil corporate entity that basically is aware of the answers but hides them from people, instead profiteering from sickness and hiding the secrets to life, perfect health and immortality.

I don't know about you, but if I was an evil medical doctor and had the 'cure' for all disease, I'd sell it on monthly installments!I'd NEVER write a book and simply sell the 'cure' for a piddly $10.85 on Amazon.

As far as useful information on health, allergies, etc.,this book ranks behind "Plain Facts for Old and Young", written in 1881 by John Harvey Kellogg...No kidding.

Save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!
There is a section in the middle of the book that begins at the bottom of page 172. Now it may be different with others, but I've found that after you put the allergin in the vial and test positive, I only need to follow either the first allergy elimination procedure on the following page. or if I don't have anyone to help me, the second procedure! Multiple cycles or repeats neccesary depending on the severity of the allergy, but just these simple procedures produce immense results! So at least try the procedure even if the other stuff to do with blood and organs and devices seems too daunting (or costly!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book if you have food allergies!
One of Dr. Cutler's better books in that it helps people understand that their health problems most likely are food allergy related and there IS something that can be done about it besides avoidance. It offers hope to those people who have suffered for so long.

1-0 out of 5 stars Skip this book and go to the source...
Dr. Cutler barely mentions the acupuncurist from whom she learned her methods, but it was probably Dr. Devi Nambudripad or someone trained by her. So skip the copier and get your information from the woman who discovered a way to truly eliminate all allergies, not just food sensitivities. Her book, Say Goodbye To Illness, is packed full of testimonials, some which include phone numbers and email addresses, which are truly miraculous. She also has a research foundation which has verified the effectiveness of her method, which is called NAET. Nambudripad's materials are much more comprehensive, and there are a lot more NAET practitioners around the country than there are BioSet practitioners. Dr. Cutler does talk more about diet and enzymes than NAET does, but it is also old info you could get in any natural healing book. I am disappointed I wasted my time on this book and will stick withNAET. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so sure!
I have read the book and followed all the advice as far as what to eat and what not to eat in this book, some information may be valid, but as far as what the author is saying, basicaly, eliminate all wheat based food... well maybe it works for some people but for me, I HAVE NOT LOST A POUND since on this diet...I have been on this diet since a month + so when the author is saying that one aquaintance lost 5 lbs the first week i am wondering if this book is for real or is it just plain fiction ?!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sound reasoning for a healthy weight loss
I've just finished Lose Wheat, Lose Weight, and I found it a very well reasoned approach to weight loss. Once the authors make the reader aware of how much wheat pervades our daily diets, and how wheat is a top allergen, it seems only logical for those suffering from the symptoms of wheat intolerance to give going wheat-free a try. I found the nutritional information section of the book to be one of the best diet approaches I've ever read, and it certainly is a healthy one.
The only drawback of this book, for US readers, was that the recipe section was clearly written with a British audience in mind. The types of fish, which are recommended often throughout the menu suggestions, are those varieties more commonly found in Britain than in the US.However, substitutions can easily be made, and it is not imperative to follow the menus once you understand the concepts of the diet.
I whole heartedly recommend this book, and am planning on giving copies to some of my family members who could benefit from this information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book is a surprising winner!
While the first chapter or two is off to a slow start and were not very elegantly written, the further I got into the book the better it got.The title of the book intrigued me because several people I know have gone wheat-free with great success, including weight loss, but I didn't understand the science behind it.I don't know if I am or am not wheat resistant, but the author pointed out how much wheat is in the average American diet. It's hard to have a balanced diet if we have wheat for breakfast (toast, bagels, pancakes), wheat for lunch (a sandwich or pizza), and wheat for dinner (pasta). In addition to reducing or eliminating wheat in the diet, the author then goes on to include much excellent weight-loss and nutritional advice.Based on the science presented, I'm definitely motivated to try the suggestion of going 4 months wheat-free before reintroducing wheat. There is a lot of helpful information here that I have not found elsewhere, including which highly nutritional foods to eat when feeling depressed rather than sugar-rich junk food. No one book is going to present everything there is to know about nutrition or losing weight successfully -- I also recommend "The 2001 Multi-Diet: Taming the Food Beast" and the "Real Age Diet" -- but this presents additional information I needed that I did not find in other books. It's not so hard to lose weight when one doesn't have food cravings and when one is eating a highly nutritious, satisfying diet! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Loving this book
I just got this book last week and have made 5 recipes. So far, all have been winners.Love that I don't have to make any subs - unless I choose to solely for taste preference. That being said, these recipes easily stand on their own. They are simple, fast and very tasty for kids and adults alike.Yay!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite allergy free cookbook
So far, this is the best allergy friendly cookbook I've bought. We have two allergic boys ages 5 and 2.This book provides different types of main dishes, breads, treats, etc. and it is all stuff that kids like!I can't wait to try more!

3-0 out of 5 stars Meh.
Truthfully, if you have more than one child with more than one food allergy or sensitivity, you really have to take what you can get in the way of cookbooks. This one is okay. There are some good ideas for dinners in it, and some interesting solutions to snack foods. My biggest complaint is the baked goods.Ugh.No matter how pretty and fluffy they looked in the picture, they have so far all turned out to be gummy, gritty bricks. If you know your way around gluten-free baking, it is possible to adapt the recipes and make them more appetizing.I would definitely not recommend this one to people who are trying gluten-free baking for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Easy, SAFE Recipes
I recently got the cookbook b/c my daughter has multiple food allergies as well as some feeding issues. The first recipe we made was incredible. The food is so easy to make and the recipes are simple.Yes there are some ingredients that are uncommon, but its easy to leave them out.I found it nice to be able to modify the recipes without scarficing taste. This book is becoming a staple in our house.

Some of the other reviews argue that it relies on rice flour alot and yes it does. However, it also uses alot of other flours, as well as giving substitution ideas in the recipe itself and the forward. In my opinion, people need to realize that if you are going to be cooking completely allergy friendly, you will be using a variety on non-mainstreamed ingredients.

Happy Cooking!!!
