5-0 out of 5 stars Just Call Me Juice-Head!
I bought this book along with a juicer, because I figured I'd get tired of making the same old juice day after day. This book is great!Apple juice, Orange juice, even carrot juice - most of us get that. But this book provides some great combinations, and gives you ideas on how to create even more.Whenever I have fruit or vegetables that need to be used quick, I turn to this book and always find a recipe to use them.Definitely a must if you're a new juicer owner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Juicin'
Product rec'd in good shape, however it took a long time to get it, nearly a month.
The book gives you lots of information, and I'm sure I will use it, but I don't think I am into juicing as much as I thought I would be.Am not sure I would select this seller as first choice if I were ordering again, just because it took so long to receive the product.Otherwise, they were fine.

3-0 out of 5 stars One Step Closer to Fuller Nutrition
This book provides guidance and suggestions for anyone desiring to ingest more fresh juices. The most helpful segment is the recipe section that allows the reader to pick and choose what appeals to them, knowing that just the addition of a fresh juice each day contributes to a healthier stamina overall. The book presents a clever format and does not become preachy nor does it claim to be the answer for all juicing conserations. Just a sincere desire to share the joy of fresh produce in an easier-to-assimilate juice form and how to produce those delicious drinks.
No, it is not the end all reference for juicing but that is not its intent. It shares the joy of taking this step toward a healthier dietary regimen without surrendering the enjoyment of taste, ease of preparation and choice.

The chapters are as follows:
-Health Benefits of Juicing
-The Perfect Produce
-Selecting a Juicer
-Back to Basics
-Power Juices for Your Health
-Excitement in a Glass
-Shaken, but Not Stirred(for those who
desire alcoholic drinks)
-Garnishes with a Twist

The author shares their delight and enjoyment of creating tasty, healthier drinks for the reader while guiding them through some basic preparatory steps such as produce selection, selecting a juicer and recipe nutritional content.
Quick read, enjoyable, with some added fun recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars simple & easy
being new to the "juicing" world can be overwhelming, however, THIS book makes it a breeze!...a lot of healthy, delicious, simple and easy fruit, veggie then fruit AND veggie combos...i like the nutritional box at the end of each recipe showing the calories, calories from fat, total fats, etc...makes the entire "juicing" concept easy...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Creative Recipes Yet!
"...when you eat a fresh carrot, many of the important nutrients become trapped in the fiber so that you only assimilate approximately 1 percent of the vegetable's available beta-carotene. But when you juice a carrot and remove the fiber, almost 100 percent of the beta-carotene is absorbable." ~ pg. 2

Since you can get a good juicer for around forty dollars, almost everyone can now afford to increase their health with fresh fruit and vegetable juices.

"Ultimate Juicing" is truly one of the most creative books on juicing I've yet to see in my short time looking for juicing books. While I occasionally borrow books from the library to see how good they might be, this is one I bought without reading it first. I'd recommend you buy this book as soon as humanly possible because it will take your juicing to new heights.

The two juices I've tried so far have been spectacular. The recipe called "First Mango on the Moon" (which I'm drinking as I type) is an icy delight. It combines the flavor of mango and pineapple with lime. Then it is blended in a blender with ice and mineral water. This would be perfect to make for summer parties. If you don't want to use the sugar the recipe calls for you can use one packet of stevia instead. I also didn't use an entire lime - more like a quarter of a lime. I love this recipe because mangoes and pineapple are usually sitting out on the counter and they taste better cold.

The second recipe I tried was the Apple and Tangerine juice. Since I wanted more tangerine flavor I used double the tangerines and one less apple. The author says to feel free to experiment, which is easier if you know which fruits and vegetables go together well. You may also want to try:

Like Ginseng in the Rain
The Lime of Your Life
The Age of Asparagus
Peaches in Seattle
Cool Hand Cuke

Another reason I love "Ultimate Juicing" is because it begins with a brief introduction to all the fruits and vegetables you will be using in the recipes. Here you will find out things like how broccoli is a good source of calcium and cabbage is an excellent source of vitamin C. The author didn't mention Braeburn apples but I'd highly recommend them. They juice especially well and are full of flavor unlike some of the other apple varieties I've tried.

The only issue I have with this book is the author's advice to put sugar into the fruit juices. Why ruin a good thing? When making the cranberry juice just add a packet of stevia. You won't be able to tell the difference between sugar and stevia, it is that good.

If you are looking for a juicer I can recommend: Black & Decker Juice Extractor. Other juicing books I've tried recently include: Juicing for Health and The Juice Lady's Juicing for High Level Wellness and Vibrant Good Looks. If I had to choose between the three I'd select Ultimate Juicing! I'm also about to try recipes from The Juicing Bible which looks incredible just after looking through it once.

I bought a set of these books in the early 1960's. They had a 'boxed' cover. I still have these books and I just love them. I probably use the Salad book the most. The 3 Bean salad recipe and ashredded carrot salad recipe are my favorites. If you are looking for a recipe 'like mom made', you will probably find it here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding ... Healthy ... Full of flavour ... Easy recipes
This cookbook was a gift, and I've made over 50% of the recipes. The theme is "Eating for Great Taste and Good Health - Easy Recipes Abundant with Fruits and Vegetables", and that pretty well sums it up! I particularly recommend the Carrot-Butternut Soup with Fresh Coriander, the Papaya and Shrimp Thai Salad and the Hot Pepper Bouillabaisse. The cookbook is full of great hints on how to prepare and store a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. It is also very helpful in explaining which fruits and veggies are particularly good sources of various vitamins and nutrients. Even has a section for recipes that kids will love. I highly recommend this one! ... Read more

Product Description

From the authors of the groundbreaking, hugely popular Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day comes a new cookbook filled with quick and easy recipes for healthy bread

Their first book was called “stupendous,” “genius,” and “the holy grail of bread making.”  Now, in their much-anticipated second book, Jeff Hertzberg, M.D., and Zoë François have taken their super-fast method and adapted it for the health-conscious baker, focusing on whole grains and other healthier ingredients.

The method is still quick and simple, producing professional-quality results with each warm, fragrant, hearty loaf.  In just five minutes a day of active preparation time, you can create delectable, healthy treats such as 100% Whole Wheat Bread, Whole Grain Garlic Knots with Olive Oil and Parsley, Black-and-White Braided Pumpernickel and Rye Loaf, Black Pepper Focaccia, Pumpkin Pie Brioche, Chocolate Tangerine Bars, and a variety of gluten-free breads.  About a dozen of the recipes are 100% whole grain.

Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day will show you that there is time enough for home-baked bread, and that it can be part of a healthy diet.  Calling all bread lovers: Whether you are looking for more whole grains, watching your weight, trying to reduce your cholesterol, or just care about what goes into your body, this book is a must-have.  Visit www.HealthyBreadInFive.com for more information.

Jeff Hertzberg and Zoë François met while taking care of their toddlers at a kids’ music class, and co-authored their first book, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking in 2007.  The book became a bestseller, with rave reviews in the New York Times, Associated Press, the Arizona Republic, and other media all over the United States, Canada, and Europe.  They’ve demonstrated their revolutionary stored-dough method on television in San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Tampa, and Phoenix.

Amazon.com Review
With over 100,000 copies in print, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day has proven that people want to bake their own bread provided they can do it easily and quickly. Knowing that people are changing the way they eat and bake because of health concerns or lifestyle choices, the authors took their established method and applied it to breads rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. That is where Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day comes in. Health-conscious bread eaters need homemade options more than anyone else. They want delicious bread, but they can't find the healthy ingredients they'd like to use in traditional bakeries, or in traditional recipes. Whether you are looking for more whole grains, whether you're vegan, gluten-free, training for a triathlon, trying to reduced your cholesterol, or just care about what goes into your body, this book delivers.

For all who discovered artisan bread through the first book and for health-conscious breadlovers everywhere, this book is a must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rise to the occasion
Before I found this book I struggled with bread making. Now I feel like a real baker.Almost any of these recipes can be used as a pizza crust, and in our family we now make pizza every Friday night. When my father discovered that he was gluten intolerant, this book again came to the rescue.I was a real hero when I made cinnamon rolls!

The recipes are so easy, you too can feel like a real baker!

3-0 out of 5 stars VWG FYI
Most of the bread recipes rely on the addition of vital wheat gluten. If this doesn't appeal to you you may want to skim through a copy of the book before you spend you money - I wish I had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day
I also own Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day, but I have some preference for Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day. Honestly, the healthy bread tastes just as great, but it's good for you, too. For anyone who thinks that healthy is synonymous with bad taste, I highly recommend that you find "white whole wheat flour". It's whole grain, and it's just as healthy as ordinary red whole wheat flour, but it tastes normal rather than "healthy". I would also recommend starting with the sandwich dough or the challah dough, since many people seem to prefer soft crusts to crispy ones.

Unlike some other books out there, these books focus on practicality. The authors aren't scared to occasionally introduce an unfamiliar ingredient or two, but they understand that it's not always better to make a recipe 10 times as hard for an incremental improvement. But if you have a lot of extra time, there is plenty to try. Not only are there a large number of dough recipes, the book includes enough variety that it's easy to figure out how to tweak them.

My only complaint is that the recipes don't include weight equivalents. Using a digital scale is much more convenient and accurate than using cups. The book does include a conversion table for the most common ingredients, but flipping back and forth in inconvenient, and some ingredients are missing from the list. In any case, it's better than nothing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Most Recipes NOT 100% Whole Grain
I was really excited to get my book in the mail. I couldn't wait to try out all the healthy recipes and take my ordinary baking DAY and turn it into baking just minutes each time I needed a loaf of bread.Unfortunately, I thought that "Healthy & Whole Grains" in the title implied that all the recipes would use 100% Whole Grains. This isn't true and I am sadly disappointed. The whole reason I choose to make my bread at home is so that I can avoid all the preservatives, refined grains and high cost of supermarket breads. At home, I can grind my own 100% whole grain organic flour. I can add healthy extras like Flaxseed, sunflower seeds...etc. I can use natural sweeteners like honey or sucanat.

Although there are a few 100% whole grain recipes in the book (which are very good btw), the majority of the recipes use at least 3 cups of all purpose flour.I haven't tried the recipes with the all purpose flour yet, so I can't say if they are good or not.Though they do like like they will be delicious!

So be for-warned... if you are looking for a book filled with 100% whole grain bread recipes, keep looking.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's so easy
