This study guide is garbage
This book has awful examples of what to expect on the exam. Random history facts make up a 1/6th of the book yet none of them were on the exam. The only part of the book that came close to resembling the type of question asked on the exam was the written part. This book didn't offer any advice on the verbal/speaking portion.

IMO save your money. See if your local library has this book if you doubt this negative review. Unless you are fluent, you will likely not perform well on this exam.

Don't waste your money!
This book was a disappointment to me.There were typos throughout, and the practice questions were not at all like those on the test.The reading comprehension passages were too long (one was 6 pages), and the questions were too easy.There was no CD provided to practice the listening comprehension.The sample writing and oral questions were completely different than those asked on the real test.Don't waste your money!

Somewhat Helpful
I used this guide to prepare for the GACE in Georgia.It was somewhat helpful because it covered all the skills covered by the GACE.It was very annoying to see questions about Florida rules, and the many grammar and spelling mistakes in a book that was about $60.There are no sample questions for the constructed response questions on the GACE.Reading Information Power will help with the essay questions, I recently took the test and the essay questions all dealt with the Standards covered in Information Power, so you should really get that book to prepare. Use this study guide as a supplement to IP and any other Media Specialist book about Administration and Managment of the LMC.

This study guide will not help prepare you for the test
I only wish that the other review had been posted a couple of months ago when I ordered this study guide.The information was out-of-date and pertained to Florida guidelines.There were also countless typos.Additionally, the practice questions were nothing like the true test questions.This "study guide" is a complete waste of time and money.If you need a title to help you prepare for this test, buy Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning

I would not recommend this study guide to anyone.Supposedly meant to be a guide for the Georgia Media Specialist exam, the sample test has at least eight questions covering Florida statutes and Florida guidelines (no mention of Georgia anywhere).There is no mention of the constructed response (short essay) questions on the GACE.Of the resources listed, the most recent was from 1995.While the text includes some updates for awards like the Caldecott and Newbery (although they misspelled it as "Newberry" several times), there was too much outdated information for a book with 2007 publication date.You're better off just downloading the "Test design and framework" off the GACE website. ... GACE for Middle Grade Language Arts
This book was very helpful for preparing for the GACE exam.The test is extremely rigorous, so I highly recommend purchasing the study manual before attempting to take such a difficult test.

Should it be a concern that a book on Language Arts contains grammatical errors?
Although the book addresses each competency and skill outlined in GACE's Test Design and Framework, it appears to have been published in haste and is in desperate need of editing and proofreading. Some areas were covered better than others; the right ones did not always receive the most attention (recognizing that tests and people vary). The included practice test suffices as a review; however, the phrasing of questions is dissimilar to those that appear on the actual exam. It would also be helpful if the book contained an index. Overall, I answered more questions correctly on the test with the book than I would have without it.

Only moderately helpful
While the book was well written, it was not really set up as a study guide and contained alot of useless information.I will say that there were some sections with relevant, helpful information.And to be fair, since I pulled from several sources while studying,it is hard to gauge just how helpful the information in this book was; but I doubt it was helpful enough to justify the money I spent on it. ... Not an accurate representation
I bought this book in hopes of getting prepared for the Science exam and found out on the day of the test that this GACE book did not prepare me at all.Not only are there numerous gramatical errors in this book, the types of questions in the samples test are nothing like the actual questions on the actual exam.In the sample test, there isn't one question where you need to actually use a calculator, whereas in the actual exam, there were over 15 questions.The content was even way off.I recommend this book to no one.They need to come up with a better study guide.
