Description:
This paper examines the relationship between small and medium sized tourism accommodation enterprises and European tour operators. Leisure ''packaged'' mass tourism and the Mediterranean basin are the main product and geographical contexts of reference. However, the potential applicability of the outcomes to other similar tourism products and areas is not excluded. Focusing primarily on SMTEs the study draws extensively from secondary research, while it also employs the outcomes of personal interviews of SMTEs' owners/managers on the Greek island of Corfu. The paper portrays the current status of the co-operation between SMTEs and TOs by illustrating the advantages and the problems faced by SMTEs' owners/managers when dealing with TOs. Finally, the study concludes by proposing actions and policies that could be incorporated in SMTEs' strategies in order to strengthen their negotiating position with large tour operating consortiums and ameliorate their evident over-reliance on tourism intermediaries. ... Excerpt: Myrtos Beach ( ) is situated in the region of Pylaros, in the north-west of Kefalonia, Greece. The beach is situated between the feet of two mountains, Agia Dynati and Kalon Oros (901m) . This can be seen in Google Maps Myrtos is world-famous for the magical colours of the water (from sky-blue to dark blue, green-blue and turquoise) contrasting with the bright white of the smooth marble pebbles from which it is formed. In the evening when the sun is on the horizon, the water is tinted by magnificent colours, (red, yellow, purple, orange), as the sun disappears. The location of the beach, with steep mountains and tall cliffs behind, is imposing and magical. For all these reasons Myrtos has previously been voted 12 times the best Greek beach and has been quoted in one or more of the published top-ten beaches of the world lists (There are many such lists and Myrtos is not cited in the majority of lists which originate outside Europe, but is included in more of the lists that originate in Europe). It is cited as No 36 in the world in one widely used travel website . Myrtos Beach was also identified as as a priority destination in a SEPT 2008 review in the Telegraph Newspaper(UK) When walking around, some footwear such as flip-flops is advised because of the pebbles. There is a steep drop-off at the shore which, at times, can be associated with a significant undertow that can be disconcerting to someone who is not a strong swimmer. Most adults become out of their depth within about ten feet of the shoreline. The surrounding sediment at Myrtos Beach is generally made up of marble, a metamorphosed limestone. Editorial Review

Product Description
A large loose leaf portfolio of 25 illustrated poems and black and white drawings by John Ratekin. The following biography is excepted from the Mykonostour.com website:"The legendary John Ratekin, an American artist, came to Mykonos to live in 1966, when gays began discovering the island. He is famous for his stark, dramatic black and white sketches of landmarks on the island, such as the Mykonos Bar and the windmills, and also for his poetry, some of which he wrote on walls. He befriended the fishermen and they him and he wrote their names on their boats.Ratekin was part of the group that first assembled at Piero"s Bar, one of the first on the island to willingly accept gay patrons. Soon artists from all over the world assembled on the island to paint the unique landscape, the cobble-stone pathways, and charming homes. But Ratekin was among the best of the lot and he stayed the longest and created exciting black and white sketches that he sold to tourists. He is also responsible for the first "Tourist Guide to Mykonos," which featured his art work. His sketches are a historical record of the evolution of modern day Mykonos seen through the eyes of an artist. Many of his poems, paintings, and sketches can be found in the Municipal Library and were originally housed in his gallery, called "the Dreammaker"s House," located in Alefkandra where the Veranda Café now stands.
