3-0 out of 5 stars Okay
I bought this as an accompaniment to the Montessori sandpaper letters, and it doesn't dovetail.I am using it as a way to talk kids through the formation of cursive letters, however, so it's not a complete bust.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
My 11 year old is finishing up with this book and it has taught her well. She understands what to do, and its not just a matter of practice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
We bought this when our 6 year old showed an interest in cursive. She enjoys flipping through and finding a letter to practice.
I like the order in which the author presents the letters as well as the fact that she specifically mentions that each person will develop their own style.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cursive Handwriting
This is a good book, however no better than those found at school stores. Not sure what I was expecting, however - my little lefthander is using it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handwriting program

4-0 out of 5 stars A Handwriting Workbook & Mini Devotional in One
This book isn't very long, 32 pages, but it includes 31 exercises coveringat least 2 letters (small or captial) on each page; then full sentences, numbers, days of the week, months, and bible characters. The featuredletters in the early pages use similar handwriting techniques, and eachstep of the letter is numbered, so a student can see how to do it.Theseletters can then be combined with each other to form words in cursive.Forexample, the first exercise teaches "a" and "d" and howto combine them --so the student should be able to write the word"dad" after doing it. Each page features a bible verse that usesthe letters learned that exercise, as well as a "Try This"exercise to be done by looking something up in the bible and writing itdown. The pages only have a small amount of space for copying beyond thebasic exercise, but the author allows reproduction for home or classroomuse, so this should not be a problem. ... Product Description
In the mid-1800's, the Spencerian form of penmanship became a standard. An elegant handwriting was much prized. Today, in our computer age, a fine, beautiful, and legible handwriting brings a warm personal touch to our correspondence. These books, 5 copybooks and a theory book (available separately or as a set), may be used to introduce cursive writing to second or third graders or to improve the handwriting of older students or adults. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting yet uneffective
The Theory book is fascinating, actually giving you the feeling of taking you back in time, and the copybooks are exactly what you expect. Unfortunately with me they were just unable to do the one thing I wanted them to. My handwriting has not improved at all.

The rules that this script use are very strict, and do not translate well from the large ruled practice book with guide lines to a regular page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like my Great-Grandfather used to write !
I have examples of beautiful Spencerian script, which was the way my Great-Grandfather wrote all of the time. When I stumbled up on this I had to order it.I am not sure I will ever have the time and discipline to master this form of writing, but I am very pleased to have the possibility.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's never too late...
I rub my greedy little teacher's hands together as I look at the booklets before me. Now Iwant a classroom set; now I want every student to have one. Yes, they are 10th graders, but it is never too late to have copperplate handwriting. They would scream in horror - no text-messaging this!!!

Oh, they are lovely little books. I'm going to learn from them, convince my principal that the expense is necessary, buy thirty sets, and inflict this new (yet classically antique and elegant) skill on my students!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fine Way to Learn the Lost Art of 19th Century Penmanship
As a Civil War re-enactor / living historian, this collection of writing books featuring the Spencerian system of penmanship is a valuable body of original books/pamphlets that was originally printed in 1874. Spencerian writing, however, was in practice more than twenty years before and is perfect for one who takes living history and re-enacting seriously. Spencerian penmanship was THE style of the 19th century and chances are, if you have had the opportunity to see original (or copies of original) letters and documents of the time, this is the style of penmanship in which it was probably written.
As "postmaster" of the 21st Michigan Civil War Re-enactors Unit and the Michigan Soldiers Aid Society (MSAS - also Civil War era), I ask that our membership write letters to one another on period replica stationary. Unfortunately, the fact that we are 21st century people living our modern everyday lives reflects in the style in which we write. Now that I have these wonderful guides, I hope my fellow members in both units will take the time to learn to write in an authentic style. The winter months will give us time for practice.
I plan to make photo copies of the pages as to not ruin my originals, and I would suggest to the learner that they do the same.
A very fine collection of guide books to help us learn a lost art.
Excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great to have the originals
This is a reproduction of the original. The guide shows the formation of the letters and the copy books give plenty of practice. This is a no frills method of learning beautiful penmanship. If you want to improve your penmanship and have the drive, this is a great resource and very affordable! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Learning script
I think this is a clear way to learn script. It's not outstanding but it's good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Workbook for a dying art
Handwriting is SO 19th century. Why should anyone bother with it?Many reasons.

Handwriting, especially in a clear cursive hand is an act of communication with style and grace. It can create a positive first impression, or solidify an earlier one (or mitigate a not so positive earlier impression). At an unconscious level, the message is that the scribner possesses a high degree of self-discipline and sophistication. And the message is all the stronger for becoming increasingly rare in the age of texting.Yes, you could argue it is elitist, but it is an element of elitism that almost anyone can master and benefit from.Certainly something a child can benefit from, even if they can't appreciate all the subtleties of the advantage they gain.

School Zone Grades 3-4 Cursive Writing is a great start for a child working on this discipline. The first half is straight penmanship drills, single then joined letters, upper and lower case. The second half is drills, but all answers to basic questions in geography, science, literature, and other questions, to make it a little more interesting.

A great suppliment to a child's education.
