5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
have found this book to be a treasure trove of information on astrological rulership of the body and also sign vulnerabilities.
Highly recommended to anyone interested in biochemistry & medical astrology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nutrition for the Soul....
I have to agree with the previous reviewer here...this book is outstanding. I have medical astrology books by Starck, Tyl, Hill etc; but they are'nt user friendly and they leave a lot of questions still hanging in the air... This book is down to earth and reads as clear as a bell.

The author covers a wide variety of nutrients, foods, hormones, etc. which are required to keep the body in top physical working order and his explanation of rulerships is in depth and accurate. It is difficult to put this book down once you pick it up.....his writing is both facinating and educational. He discusses glands, proteins in the diet, carbohydrates, metabolism, vitamins, minerals and cell salts and a dozen more issues related to our physical/mental health.

This book is an Astrological explosion of wisdom and intelligence...I don't know why it took me so long to find it... I have referred this book to everyone in my astrology group and I will do the same for you....This book is extraordinary in its simplicity!!! Order it before they're all gone!!

With much appreciation to the author and his love of Astrology... Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Cheers, Kiwi

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I own multiple books on astrology, probably around 30 from the great authors such as Tyl, Hand, Spiller, Greene, Arroyo, Cunningham, Pond, Parker, etc. I was relatively unfamiliar w/ this author but was interested in the title. Each page of this thin book contains 5 pages of information you'd find in the other books. His writing style is clear and to the point. I found it difficult to put this book down and honestly to fully absorb each page (usually I read a book quickly and still retain information) I did linger on his words. I now wish more of his books were still in print. If you have any interest in health and nutrition,or just astrology in general this book is a gem. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Seller
Book was in condition as described. Shipped promptly and arrived the same day as the delivery estimate. Good seller.

3-0 out of 5 stars Outdated book filled with typos
This book was required for my college class and it was an okay book- it has a lot of typos with simple words that can be easily noticed and edited which was annoying. Some of the information are outdated and irrelevant with such nonsenses. It was published 5 years ago so it made sense why this book is rather outdated... Last of all, this book offers some pros like valuable first aid information for CPR and Helmich, safety and nutrition for infants to preschoolers. I'm giving this book 3 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never Received The Book

Just like humans, dogs require exercise and proper nutritionto keep them in top physical form. While most of us are pretty good atgiving our pets plenty of exercise, we don't have the slightest ideawhat constitutes good nutrition for dogs. Earl Mindell's Nutritionand Health for Dogs is the perfect antidote, providing everythingresponsible dog owners need to know about their dogs' nutritionalneeds.

Mindell, author of Earl Mindell's Herb Bibleand Earl Mindell's VitaminBible, offers a clear, concise, and easy-to-read guide to the dosand don'ts of dog nutrition, beginning with a general overview ofcanine nutritional needs. This covers such topics as water quality, fresh foods, and the inadequacy of most commercial dog food. Thesections on vitamins and minerals feature nicely laid-out chartsexplaining the importance of each element, the foods that contain it,and how to tell if your dog is getting too much or too little. Therest of the book examines more specific aspects of canine health, including your dog's immune system, natural flea control, and commondiseases and their treatments. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great breakdown of vitamin quantity for dog
My dog was diagnosed with cancer. As I grew up with him and love him very much,..I read every book I could find on cancer. It's important for me to strengthen his immune system. With all of my homemade dog food, dog vitamins, shark cartilage, flax seed oil, vitamin C pills,..etc.I found it extremely helpful to have a book that informed me of the correct amounts of vitamins and such for a small dog. This is very important as no other book I found had this for dogs. The main negative I saw in this book was having so much of it dedicated to listing many dog breeds and the health problems that are common to them.Somehow I though this could have been more concise(like a chart with a check next to the breed that corresponded to the ailment),..and my one dog only fit into one breed(and had none of the problems listed for the breed,..though I could see where it could help someone in looking for a new dog, or in planning what to expect and watch for..),..so the weight and cost of the book contained a large percentage(1/2 the book) of what didn't apply to my dog. But, the rest of the book is so valuable.I break down human vitamins into the amounts recommended by him(if you do this be careful of hidden ingredients,.. or vitamin E repeats etc.). Great book to have and follow for any dog owner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nutrition & Health for Dogs
I must have about 20 books on dog care, health, nutrition, etc and this book is one of the most practical so far.I would highly recommend this as a must have for any dog owner. Itcovers nutrition but also vaccinations, fle treatments, common conditions in dogs and nutritional support. This is a concise, easy to read book with information that you can really use whether you feed your pet commerical or homemade diet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative, some flaws
I originally read this book so I could get a recipe to make dog treats. However, I found myself drawn into the other chapters on flea control and nutrition.

While I would not go so far as following a vitamin regime or homeopathic treatment for dogs (I don't even do that for myself!)I foundthe information on the content of "average" dog food, treats andflea control very helpful in making consumer decisions.

I would agreewith a previous review that Mindell does depend heavily on human physiologyfor his nutritional and medical advice for dogs. He also tends to be a bit"preachy" in his commentary on canine health.

However, commonly reported scientific studies on canine nutrition is lacking andnone of the human-based nutrition regimes he presents would hurt a dog(only be a bit more expensive and/or time consuming.)So why not err on thesafe side?

Moreover, I have had regular vets (non-hollistic)recommendsome of the flea treatments he suggests; so something must be working.

When you discover the shocking ingredients in dog food and flea controlyou'll be glad you read the book and were offered some alternatives.

Oh,and my dogs absolutely loved the treats!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good synopsis of canine vitamin/mineral requirements.
Ordinarily I would not provide a review, however, I am aghast at the only review you have on this website that was provided anonymously. It seems that they were not sufficiently confident in their convictions to evenidentify themselves!

This book is not intended to provide herbal remediesfor dogs.It is a simple no nonsense approach to providing the reader abasic understanding of the nutritional needs of dogs.It starts out with agood description of the problems with commercial foods and some goodreasoning for preparing your own dog's meals. It then provides the basicsof what dogs will need in terms of nutrients. It also provides some goodadvice about more natural approaches to combating fleas. He obviouslybelieves in giving dogs the basics for a strong immune system which willhelp to stave away many ailments that might be linked to poor commercialnutrition.

This should not be the only or the first book you buy whenlooking into canine nutrition, but, it is certainly a valuable tool to makepart of your library.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dubious factual content, not particularly useful
Earl Mindell has written several books on herbs and herbal remedies, unfortunately this latest contribution shares many of their faults. The authors do not specify which portion of the plant is used for many remediesand very little research is presented to support their use.Through outthe book I had the sinking feeling that there had not been enough thoughtgiven to how dog physiology differs from human physiology. The skepticalreader may want to check out the quackwatch website for more information onMr. Mindell's other books. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars MOdern Nutriton in Health and Disease
Pretty much what I ordered. It came in a very timely manner, but the binding is in somewhat rough shape. It'll do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Book content fantastic; quality a little disappointing.
This book is a must-have for anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of the biochemical nature of disease processes, & appropriate nutritional/medical interventions. Physiology/pathophysiology is clear & succinct, & covers diseases not often covered in other nutritional texts. Nice to see a US publication using SI rather than Empirical Units! The Appendices are one of the highlights of the book- not just a few tables, but a whole section- very useful & practical. One short-fall in this book is the lack of use of uniform imaging & coloured diagrams, and only 2 pages of colour plates (Part IIe, section 38)?!, which detracts slightly from their welcome abundance. In all, a prized addition to anyone's library who wishes to have a comprehensive resource at their fingertips.

Book quality- This is a well-bound, sturdy publication, with fine paper a necessity to hold over 2000pages of information. I was a little disappointed to find, on unwrapping the book, that it has a whelt (moisture or manufacture?) on the cover along with some scratches, and a few of the front pages were dog-eared. If customers are paying over $100 for a text, they expect better care of the book on your part!

In my efforts to distill pertinent material for the busydoctor from books and scientific articles, I have many reference and textbooks to further consult from. I invariably look to Dr. Ronzio'sEncyclopedia on Nutrition and Good Health for integrity, clarity and depthof understanding in objective and concise terminology. Like the otherreviewers of this enclyclopedia on nutrition and good health, I find it avery valuable and useful source.

Product Description
Written by a man who is passionate about nature and all living creatures, this book contains everything readers could want to know about giving their dogs the best nutrition possible. Arguing that the processed dog foods on the market today ignore the health needs of most dogs, author Mark Poveromo--an expert in animal nutrition and owner of a dog and cat food store--provides readers with information on dog-food brands, holistic and raw dog foods, and recipes tailored to dogs with specific health issues, such as cancer or kidney disease.

Don't be surprised if To Your Dog's Health! makes you apologize to Fido or Fifi for all the years you just opened up any old can or bag of food, put it in a bowl, and left it for the day. And then you get upset, maybe even mad, when you got home from work, tired and maybe a little cranky, only to discover your pet hadn't touched its food.

To Your Dog's Health! just might be your wake up call. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars To Your Dog's Health!
I found To Your Dog's Health! to be both helpful and enlightening. This book is a great resource for dog owners.

With chapter titles like All Foods Are Not Created Equal and Be a Top Chef for Your Dog, author Mark Poveromo informs the reader on how to give their dog the best nutrition possible. Formerly a teacher, Mark is now an expert on animal nutrition as well as the owner of a dog and cat food store.

He is a holistic practitioner and has his own dogs on raw food diets as well as cooking for them at home himself. His own chocolate lab lived to be 17 years old.
There are healthy recipes included within the book as well as brands Mark recommends. He gives advice on picky eaters and on how to transition your dog from the food he is currently eating to a different diet.
He discusses several interesting topics including dogs with cancer and what foods help prevent it, as well as what foods they should be eating once, heaven forbid, they are diagnosed with the disease. Mark also tells you what to look for when you are reading labels.
I liked that there is a photo included at the start of each chapter. I thought that was a nice touch.

I will definitely be making sure that I am label reading when purchasing food and treats for my own furbaby, Diego. This book has been an eye opener when it comes to my dog's eating habits and the food that I chose to give him.

4-0 out of 5 stars Valuable information every dog owner should know
Mark does a great job clearly outlining the health needs of dogs (and cats) in this book. He walks through the different types of nutrition such as grocery store kibble, holistic foods, home cooking, and raw. He gives great advice and recipes for home cooked meals, meals for dogs with kidney disease or cancer, and what to look for in kibble.

His one chapter on raw feeding was a bit of a disappointment compared to the amount of time he spent on other subjects. While he went into great detail on kibble, home cooking for your dog, supplements to use, recipes, and things to keep in mind for certain health issues, he spent only one chapter on actual raw feeding and did not discuss how to do it yourself. He mentioned that there are good raw food manufacturers, but did not discuss how to balance your dog's meals if you don't buy a prepackaged raw diet. I would have liked it if he went into more detail in some areas, including this one. I found this lack of information especially odd in light of the last paragraph of the chapter on raw feeding where Mark Poveromo said, "For the record, I have been feeding my pets a raw diet for about seven years now, and have had tremendous success."

However, there was a wealth of information about vitamins, enzymes, carbohydrates, and vegetables, that I still came away learning a lot. Based on this information, I will try changing up our dogs' diet a bit, but I will probably also consult some other raw diet resources before making a final decision.

I was delightfully surprised that he wrote a chapter about vaccines and other treatments. I must say I found his thoughts on that subject well balanced and helpful.

I do recommend this book for a quick, easy to read overview of dog nutrition. In fact, despite my disappointment with the raw food chapter, I found enough good information in the book, that I am keeping it on my shelf to read again. There are various facts in this book that more pet owners, and vets, need to know. One such fact is that the protein in most kibble is from rendering facilities. These facilities take leftover animal pieces (meat, fat, blood, bone, and feather) and render them down to be included in kibble. These are the animal pieces that are not sold in grocery stores because they are not fit for consumption! And because of this poor protein quality, we are seeing increased incidents of health issues in our pets.

Just like humans, our pets are what they eat, and we owe it to them to make sure we give them the best nutrition possible.

I received this book free from The Online Publicist. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Information
I have one dog with food issues/allergies and another who is getting older and has to watch his weight. I found the book to be very helpful in knowing what to look for in dog food and to make an educated decision on what to feed my dogs. Mark takes a more holistic approach to feeding and we have found that is what works for our guys here too. There is information on what to look for in a dog food, feeding a raw diet, feeding a dog with cancer or kidney disease and some information on vaccines and supplements. Each chapter in the book also has a cute paw print with a tip inside it. It is a very interesting book to read especially after all the pet food recalls in recent years. The book was easy to read and understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars My dogs have never looked so good
I had just gotten a new boxer puppy to be a companion for my 10 year old boxer, and if it weren't for Mark and his book I wouldn't have been able to start the puppy off the right way. When I first got the puppy he was undernurished [the breeder had the puppy weened off the mother's milk at four weeks old and started him on dry commercial food], and after talking to Mark and reading his book, he's gained four pounds. Even our ten year old has slimmed down and doesn't have breathing problems any more [no more snoring!], all because of the raw diet. I would absolutely recommend Mark's book to anyone whether they're first starting out with a pup [or a kitten] or if they have a senior; Mark's advice covers all ages.

1-0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate Information
I was very disappointed with this book in general. I am a veterinary technician by profession and have read books and scientific literature on the topic of canine and feline nutrition and this one met very few of my expectations. None of his information was substantiated and he gave faulty information on some things other than nutrition. For example: He discusses on page 33 the 'medical community's' suggestion of the effectiveness of the Lyme Vaccine and compared it to the spirochetal bacterium syphiis and notes how no cure yet exists for syphilis. Last I checked, a shot of Pen G took care of that, even the writers of the TV show House know that. How can I trust the rest of his information which he has no research or proof of if he can't get facts like that straight? Also, he discussed the raw diet and compared the pros and the cons. He very blatantly states his support of the raw diet (which is fine) but does a very poor job of discussing the cons of the diet. What you get out of it, there are good dog foods and not so good dogs foods. You can read that on someone's blog for free. I do not recommend reading this book. ... Read more

I am a life skills instructor for adults with Developmental Disabilities in Illinois. My organization has been using this curriculum for over 5 years to teach health promotion classes to the individual we serve.I am so excited to have this new edition!
The curriculum was developed specifically for persons with DD, so as an instructor I have to make very few modifications to meet the cognitive needs of my class participants. The curriculum is broken up into 36 interactive, user-friendly modules, each with a specific lesson about living healthy lifestyles.

Product Description
In this second, expanded edition of the best-selling The Brain Diet, Dr. Alan C. Logan incorporates the latest research on the connection between nutrition, mental health, and intelligence.

Most people today know that good nutrition and good health are related and that poor nutrition frequently leads to cardiovascular disease and cancer. Unfortunately, few people realize that it also is an underlying factor in other medical conditions, such as depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, migraine headaches, ADHD, and much more. This is startling when one realizes that researchers have found that today more than 50 percent of the vegetables in most people's diets consists of the trimmings on a hamburger and a side of fries.

The Brain Diet explains the connection between diet and mental health, as well as its importance for realizing the full potential of our intelligence. It shows how poor nutrition hinders the development of our children's intelligence and how it adversely affects mental health and success.

Despite being just 2 percent of total adult weight, the human brain demands an enormous amount of energy. An ample flow of blood is required for us to think, to reason, to create art and music, to develop technology, and to perform complex work. As The Brain Diet explains the science behind how our brains function, it also provides suggestions for a healthy diet.

Included are the basics of a brain-healthy diet, brain-healthy recipes, helpful charts, and food supplements that enhance our mental function (and how those supplements work). This revolutionary new way of looking at mental health and intelligence gives new meaning to the adage "You are what you eat." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!! Definitely Worth Reading
I have had the privilege of reading several books on the subject and I have to say that The Brian Diet is the best book in its category. This book is extremely rich in useful and relevant data that will shock readers. There is such a link between diet, lifestyle, and stress on one's health and the brain and Dr. Logan's advice is spot on. There are some great recipes and supplementation recommendations. I have made two recipes over the last week from this book and each came out delicious with easy preparation. It is clear that Dr. Logan spent hours on researching for this book. Although one reviewer stated that the research had been hand-picked, I must disagree. I have read many books on the topic and Dr. Logan's research is exactly what I have seen quoted from the most prestigious medical journals. The best part is that this book cuts to the chase and applies the information well. Overall a great read, you will not be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well written!
Great book for anyone of any age! A must read for those interested in taking care of their health on a deeper level than just pill popping!

5-0 out of 5 stars Blown Away

Alan Logan has given us a book that is smart, highly educational, andvery practical..His style of writing is sincere and intelligent and left me very motivated to follow his clear and excellent directives. I highly recommend this book, it's a LIFE CHANGER and a MUST READ item.. We need more books like this...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Answer For Me
This book was what I have been searching for.It gives great and simple advice in a professional detailed way.

Anyone suffering from depression, anxiety or other neurological issues, I highly recommend this book.I have read everything out there on the subject of diets that help mood, and this is by far the most scientific and on target book out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
To me, this book is all about positive realism. It doesn't make any oulandish claims about some super supplement that will boost your IQ by fifty points. It presents health in a understandable but intelligent way, with no shameless promotion of any products, and makes suggestions that one could_possibly_undertake.This book can best be described as integrative: it shows once again that the body is one and connected.Although it's called"the brain diet," this book is more of a lifestyle plan--so much more than just a diet.I encourage everyone to pick this up if you are willing to take a step to improve your health and your childrens'. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite book!
I bought this book almost 5 years ago. It was easy to read and very informative. Perfect for someone looking for information on food and what it does to the human body. I still refer to it occationally.

After reading this book we totally changed the foods we eat. When you know it's easy to choose. We have lost weight, feel better and wouldn't go back the our old style of eating for anything.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Information
A book with lots of information but the delivery of the information is rather boring. So I give it a 4 instead of a 5 for that reason.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Book
Have this book at home on your reference shelf.Gary Null covers every condition with thoughtful references to vitamin deficiencies.A must for those who want more than just a pill to cover up the symptoms.

2-0 out of 5 stars His agenda is clear, but it wasn't mine.
The book opens with horror stories about cows and how they are given[chemicals] to fatten them up and keep them healthly. Then it moves on the chickens and the horrible conditions they are raised in. The third story is about a vegetarian and how much better his diet is.I already knew that cows and chickens were not the best and were given [chemicals] I don't want in my body, I didn't need the graphic descriptions.Much of the information was wonderful, the explanation about protein and simple vs. complete protein was very interesting. I am an avid reader, but I found this hard to follow, and didn't retain the information.Having to trudge through the chapters made each new page harder to face.I couldn't force myself to continue to read.A book isn't a good resource when you can't recall this inforation or dread having to slog through half of the book to find the one paragraph you need. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A basic little book on how to attain wellness
This book constitutes a summary of Null's basic "teachings" concerning how to attain wellness.

He has devoted a chapter to each step, i.e. 1) beginning 2) elimination of disease-causing agents 3) cleansing and detoxifying 4) eating well 5) exercise 6) destressing and 7) taking charge of your perfect health.

I keep reverting to Chapter 3, which deals with cleansing and detoxifying - there is much useful information here about juicing. The whole concept of juicing is an eye-opener to me. I feel it is a major key to attaining full health. The chapter also comprises, among other things, a list of herbs, herb teas and nutrients for detoxification purposes.

A short, easily read, valuable book for those interested in regaining perfect health!

1-0 out of 5 stars Bonehead advice from an armchair nutritionist
I like Gary Null, really. But this book is a WASTE of your money!
Filled with inaccurate information (like "wine contains pro-antistatins" Does he mean proanthocyanidins? Also, "Take liquid acidophilus to increase your intake of fiber to 50 grams per day." Acidophilus contains NO fiber! Did anyone edit this book before publishing??) and misspellings ("Benign prosthetic hypoplasia" instead of the correct benign prostatic hyperplasia; "propellus", which should be propolis, and many, oh so VERY many more), this book does more harm than good. Particularly as, since his name carries so much weight, people will go with his recommendations (like taking 100 mg of echinacea for immune support, or red clover for curcuminoids) over those of someone who may be less well known, but more intelligent.

Dont buy this book. If you do buy it, dont read it. Dont even give it away to someone else. Just toss it in the recycle bin, where it belongs.
