In some circles "Snack Attack" is touted as a good reference "snack" cookbook for diabetics and while there are some quaint ideas for good snacks, the book is only moderately useable for diabetics.Peruse the margins for the nutritional information and you may soon realize that these "Guilt-free Treats" may only be relatively healthy depending on your current diet.But for diabetics... be very careful: too much sugar and too many carbohydrates per meal, per serving.

4 qt. popped popcorn
1/2 C. butter

I tend to buy a lot of unhealthy snacks at the supermarket, but after buying this cookbook, I have started making a lot of my own snacks and found the joy in creating healthy but really tasty snacks for my whole family. A lot of these snacks are easy and fun to whip up and it's a great way to get the kids involved in making their own favorite foods. I highly recommend it for somebody who wants to eat healthier but does not want to go on a restrictive diet. You'll naturally start gravitating towards healthier but still very flavorful food choices!

I love this book!
Laura Trice presents a whole philosophy of how to eat simple, delicious goodies, and her introduction and tone throughout the book are accessible and enjoyable.
My favorite recipe is the almond energy muffins. The recipe replaces flour (I don't eat wheat) with almond meal, which is high in protein and good fats. I don't tend to have agave nectar around the house, but I've made it with over-ripe bananas, or molasses, or maple syrup, and they always come out great!

This is a terrific book for anyone trying to eat healthy foods and serve healthy foods to loved ones. How great, to be able to make treats like ice cream, cookies, cakes and pies with all natural ingredients! Laura's recipes are easy to follow, and the ingredients are readily available at Whole Foods or other natural foods stores. I've made many of the recipes in the book already and my family has raved about them. A must-have addition to the cookbook collection of anyone who cooks for a family.

Finally! A "healthy snack" cookbook that offers us more than celery sticks with peanut butter, cookies that taste like sand, and baked apples! Too many of the current cookbook offerings in the good nutrition arena are full of recipes that few adults would find enjoyable, let alone children. Dr. Laura's cookbook is chock-full of easy to make, palatable sweets and snacks that, like the Bite-lettes and other foods she retails, can be enjoyed by everyone. Dr. Laura even shares the recipes for the cookies that you can find on the shelves of "W.F." and other markets.Now, that's integrity!

Though the book's cover shows some enticing-looking sweets, there are also plenty of savory options--cucumber snacks and mini-pizzas, for example, that will satisfy those without a sweet tooth. I, personally, love the recipes for smoothies, sparklers, and other drinks such as the refreshing spa water and a banana shake that is much less threatening than the thousand-calorie catastrophe they sell at "J.J."

Don't overlook the first few chapters on ingredients, reading labels, and nutrition. You may think you know all about it, but Dr. Laura explains it all in a way that is sensible and memorable without being preachy. I tend to skip over these things, too, but was glad I took the time to read through these important chapters. I'd read about trans fats, corn syrup, and white flour and sugar before, but honestly, this was the first time I actually retained the information.

Thank you, Dr. Laura, for making chocolate chip cookies, lemonade, and cherry pie accessible to all of us without forcing us to eat carob, artificial sweeteners, and goopy pie filling from a can!

This cookbook is a dream come true for me.I love baking, and I love eating things I have baked, and I have a serious sweet tooth -- but I'm also very conscious of my health and eating habits.These interests are obviously often in conflict, but the Wholesome Junk Food Cookbook has gone a long way towards resolving the conflict.As other reviewers have mentioned, it is really wonderful that this cookbook is not just a collection of recipes, but also a primer on healthy ingredients and healthy baking techniques.It was a lot of fun to go out and buy a bunch of new ingredients to re-stock my baking cupboard with things that would be way less harmful to my body.The recipes themselves are awesome too.I am a particularly big muffin fan, and the muffin section is a goldmine.Definitely try the golden pineapple carrot muffins; they are every bit as good (and nourishing!) as they sound. ... Seems this chick jumped on the RawFood bandwagon only to advertise the multi level marketing scam KrystalSalt and KlamathLake bluegreen algae along with a plug for her pal Daniel Barron leader of the cult EBE
Can anybody with more experience in rawfood recomend a starter book for me? I live by myself in an efficiency apartment and have extremely limited resources. So I'm looking for super simple without the need for elaborate gadgets.

I disagree with this other review.Vegans can choose not have to used raw eggs or goat cheese--these are simply an option offered by the author as a way to get vitamin B12 content in a "useable form that is hard to get from other sources."She certainly doesn't push it on people, as the egg yolk is optional the few recipes that list it as an ingredient.

You need to weigh rare risks against the health benefits that a raw food can provide.If you know the conditions that your produce and even eggs come from, you'll have a slim chance at risking a bacterial infection, especially compared to mass produced foods from a big distributor.

I found the recipes I've made in the book so far to be great.The book is about healthy recipes that are quick and easy to make--it's not about the fanciest recipe you can make from raw food.I definitely recommend this book to people who don't want to spend hours in the kitchen and who still want to eat raw and healthy
