It has some recipes that are nice but I was hoping for more exciting ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great South Beach Recipes!
So great to have this!I have all kinds of great recipes for the holidays, without breaking South Beach!

3-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced at Amazon....available elsewhere for much less!
I thought I was getting a hard copy of the book and was willing to pay the price at Amazon ($16.50) for it.When it came, it was a paperback!I had already seen the paperback at The Christmas Tree Shop in Cherry Hill, NJ, for $3.99!!I should have bought the cookbook there!!It would have been easier and much cheaper!Had it been the other way around, it would have much easier to return as well!

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
This is a pretty good book for party recipes. However, I was disappointed that there weren't as many as I thought there would be; and some look almost repeated from earlier books in series, or else reproduced in later books. I don't know if they were or not. But they seem to be.

a rock during the holiday season--you are probably going to have to be involved in some kind of festivities.Whether the whole family shindig or the mandatory office potluck, let's face it we all have to grow up and face the music sometime.Sometimes that music is "Jingle Bells" and we're stuck. This book of the series I really like when I am too tired during the season. It has good "mixes" that can be created, packaged and make lovely hostess or office pal presents. It has a lot of good beverage ideas in general that are easy.Sometimes if you just break down and buy that 30 cup coffee maker for $, you can be the king/queen of the holiday potlucks with the delicious Wassail and hot beverages recipes
located here. This is the kind of book even old Scrooge should have for backup during the mandatory holidays at the end of the year.

Product Description
Joan Nathan's knowledge, enthusiasm, and experience have made her prize-winning books on Jewish cooking a staple in every Jewish kitchen. Now, drawing upon the recipes, stories, and secrets of a baker's dozen of bakers from around the world, she captures the art of Jewish baking.

Here are fifty original recipes for the traditional baked goods associated with the major holidays -- challah for Shabbat, hamantashen for Purim, macaroons and matzah for Passover, jelly doughnuts for Chanukah -- as well as delicious and exotic alternatives from around the world: Yemenite kubbanah, Turkish boyos, German schnecken, Russian babka, Hungarian strudel, Parisian pletzel, Mexican banana cake, Syrian ka'ak. But why wait for the holidays? Along with challah, bialys, and bagels, you will want to bake and enjoy all of these cakes and breads with your family and friends throughout the year.

The bakers who have perfected these recipes represent the breadth of Jewish history and geography: they come from America, Israel, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Syria, and Egypt. Their personal stories offer a fascinating window into the Jewish experience of this century.

With step-by-step instructions on kneading, rising, braiding, rolling, and folding dough, as well as tips on how to make baking a rewarding and even relaxing part of the busiest lifestyle, The Jewish Holiday Baker will turn any novice into a baker, and give any expert a command of the sweetness and craft of Jewish baking.Amazon.com Review

5-0 out of 5 stars Hadassah Jewish Holiday Cookbook
One of the most beautiful and complete Jewish & Kosher cookbooks I ever seen.Since my first purchase, I have ordered several more as gifts for family and friends. This is a "must have" for any cookbook enthusiast!

3-0 out of 5 stars don't know yet
We bought this book to be the prize in a drawing for our Chanukah party on the 28th of Dec.My husband peeked in the book and loves most of the recipes, but (obviously) we haven't made any yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite cookbooks
This cookbook will never reach your bookshelf. It will remain close by for reading, education, and cooking purposes. It is SO delightful, and each recipe I have tried has been delicious. Our favorites are Pineapple-Ricotta Kugel (to live for), Ukrainian Borscht (please try it, you'll like it), Crockpot Cholent (this shouldn't be legal, it is so good), Haroset from Suriname (no complaints from anyone on this - delicious), and Chicken Marrakesh (great for company - feeds 10-12).

All of the Hadassah cookbooks that you can get your hands on are worth having. There is a real community of people who love good food behind them. I have over 1,000 cookbooks in my collection, and this "Jewish Holiday Hadassah Cookbook is in the top 5 of all of them.

Amazon.com Review
If December finds visions of sugar plums dancing in your head, chances are this book is for you.Stuffed like a stocking full ofunique decorating ideas, it's a helpful guide to creating a bright andcheerful home for your holidays. And with its overriding theme ofproviding "projects that are simple to do and that use materials thatare familiar and easy to find," you don't have to be a journeymancarpenter to pull these designs off.

Granted, the book is presentedwith a decidedly American Christmas slant, but with separate chaptersaddressing door and window treatments, mantel pieces, table settings, tree decorations, and holiday desserts, there are several elegantdecorations which could be suitable for just about any festive,non-denominational atmosphere. While there is a general lack ofdiagrams to guide you through the steps, each project does includessimple directions, a helpful list of required materials, and lovelyphotographs giving a full-color example of each finishedpiece. --George Laney ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I adore this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars medieval
A nice little book covering a multitude of subjects. Was more interested in recipes and costumes, but found the other information fascinating. the costume side of things was good.

Pity its so hard to order from overseas

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
This book is full of great ideas, recipes, clothing, dances and more.I used this as a guide to plan a medieval birthday party and it was fantastic! I would highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Planning a medieval Party?
If you are planning a Medieval Celebration of any kind this is a great book to buy. My Fiancee and I have been looking for medieval books to plan our wedding by and I stumbled across this one its been very helpful and I'm sure it will get alot of use. It has many tradations recipes and lots of fun games a must have.

3-0 out of 5 stars So-So Information for Event Planning
My fiance and I purchased this book as we are planning a medieval wedding. The title and description of this book implied that we would find lots of valuable information on that topic. Well, we found lots of valuable information for feast planning, or putting on a re-enactment (a la Society for Creative Anachronism), and very little concerning period wedding traditions. The most interesting parts were the recipes/redactions and the instructions for medieval dance steps. There are also several pages that contain sheet music for period songs. If you are looking to put on a reenactment or feast, this is the book for you. If you are looking for anything else, I suggest you look elsewhere. ... Read more
