5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the New Professional Organizer
As a new professional organizer, this book has provided great inspiration. I read this book with a highlighter in hand and plan to review it often to benefit from her wealth of experiences, organizing tips and "decide to decide" attitude.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cut to the Chase, Please
If you enjoy reading cute inspirational stories you may enjoy this book.If you just want to know what the nine strategies are, and how to apply them, you will find this book incredibly fustrating. The Source referred to is the reason or reasons why people can't get organized. It has nothing to do with giving you information on supplies, storage items or helpful websites. It does contain a list of organizing books, most of which you could probably find by doing a simple search on Amazon. My copy is going to the Salvation Army tomorrow, and I hope someone else will find it useful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Let Down
Not real source. You are the source. Not much here that can help us.
Here are some other ideas I hope you find helpful.
First I have been working diligently on de cluttering my personal and business life. I have read so many simplifying and de-cluttering and efficiency books I almost have a clutter problem with all the books on the subject. (Cured that recently too with the Kindle 2.)
I run three business. One brick and morter and two online. I was getting over four hundred emails a day and was drowning in mail and spam. So I utilized ideas / suggestions from several sources to cure my problems. From the Four Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss we started using detailed faq's lists on our websites and an auto-responder that answered many questions so we would no longer have to reply to as many emails. For the ones we do answer the questions are predictable and we saved the answers as email drafts that way we just cut and paste and all done.
For the Spam we ran our eight email accounts into one google mail as they have the best spam filters and you can reply from the email address to which the mail was sent so they dont know that anything is happening. And suggestions from the life hacker Upgrade Your Life: The Lifehacker Guide to Working Smarter, Faster, Better by Gina Tripani has some interesting ideas for sure.
Keeping your inbox empty we use suggestions from Stress Less and Zen to Done by Leo Babauta and you would not believe how much better you feel when things are under control. But it is you who must Work the system or you will be overwhelmed again.
A much more detailed program is used in Getting Things Done David Allen book, but the above is kind of the simplified version that I currently prefer.
And for just getting rid of all the clutter in your life any of the books from Peter Walsh, How to Organize (Just About) Everything, and Enough Already, are great even though they tend to recover some of the material from his other books somewhat but thats not a big deal since the info is worth repeating. Another good author but she covers pretty much the same thing is Julie Morgenstern. The books by Koch on the 80/20 principle are also worth looking into. For the paper clutter in my life I have a digital sender scanner and have scanned over four full file cabinets into Adobe PDF computer files. I have done this with pictures too as you can also save them info Jpeg and Jiff files. While there are tons more books out there and I seem to have most of them, these are the best to get things under control and to get you the time to do the things that matter to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simplicity for the overwhelmed
If you are serious about getting and staying organized, this book is for you. If you want someone to just give you a system to try that does all the organzing for you, then don't get this book. I really liked this book because of the simple steps Kathy Waddill breaks things down in. I now look at little things in my house and think, is there a better place for that, do I use that, is that in a place that will create a problem later? I have a husband that has to have a lot of stuff for his job and this has helped me to be able to keep his things organized, too. I do not like to have to use a lot of steps and complicated systems where I won't know how to keep things clean because it won't fit the system. This book is not like that at all. Great resource for those who want help with things they need to keep or get rid of.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strategies Crucial To Organizing Success
Kathy has done a great job defining 9 strategies import to organizing. She begins with understanding your environment and the challenges currently in your life and then teaches the steps necessary for thining out your belongs, setting your environment up to be successful, and the strategies to maintain it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not real impressed...
I am on a huge de-clutter and organizing whim right now so I was super excited to get this book for organizing tips. The book came today and I tore the box open, sat down, and began to flip through the pages..Didn't see much that looked too exciting so I started reading through each page, hoping the goodies were hidden in the words...still not much. There may be one or two things in there that I may find useful, but it mostly looks like a handy-man's guide to hanging shelves. As for the organizational part of the book, it shows a lot of "organizing" items that you can purchase, all things that I have seen before.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Useful
Sandra has made a believer out of me. With her guidance I am kicking the stuff habit and making room for LIFE.

This is a practical step by step guide to making your home more organized.

I needed it and I can think of quite a few other people in my life who will recieve this book as a gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sandra Munson Makes It Happen
I like to let my home organization ideas marinate in my imagination -- for years -- before trying them. Sandra Munson, on the other hand, is the queen of "It's not that hard - I'll show you how."If you're a marinator like me, then she wrote this book for both of us!

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING FIND!
I originally bought this book for my sister (thinking I didn't need it) and WOW! So many great ideas that now I need to get her another one because I dogeared all the pages and made notes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Step by step helps
I have tried to install some projects on my own, but the instructions were not clear.I liked having the step by step instructions in this book, which makes the project much easier. Also, I enjoyed the little jokes - it was actually fun to read about organizing! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Waste of Time
I don't believe I've ever read such an unhelpful organizing book.Much of the book is spent on describing the assumed state of the problem, rather than on offering solutions to the problem.(Do I really need half a chapter to tell me that my kitchen is disorganized? If I didn't already know that, why was I reading the kitchen chapter?)The remainder of the "stuff" organization chapters (as opposed to the time management chapters in the first section of the book) consists of lists of tips.Unfortunately, the vast majority of these tips are things that most of us could have figured out on our own."Write down what you're running out of BEFORE you run out of it." We don't necessarily all DO this, but I don't think we needed help coming up with the concept. Moreover, most of the methods the author recommends will only work well for a small segment of the population - that is, those who don't actually struggle with disorganization but who have simply not gotten around to getting organized before. For example, the method given for organizing a room is to dump EVERYTHING into the middle of the room, from all of the drawers, shelves, etc., and start from there. For some people, this may work great. For many of us, it would result in being immediately overwhelmed, crashing and burning when barely into the project, ending up with a much larger mess than what we started with, and, possibly, giving up on any further attempts to get organized.

Besides the lack of helpful instruction offered, I did not care for the author's tone/attitude.The entire thing - especially the first section - made me feel as though I was constantly being beaten over the head. The author continually railed against the "excuses" I was supposedly making for not getting organized and why I needed to just suck it up and do it.Well, contrary to the author's perception, I had every intent of "sucking it up" and doing the job - that's why I bought the book and was reading it.She also operates on the assumption that everyone has loads of disposable cash lying around and that everyone's lifestyle is - or should be - like hers.("When have you ever used more than one paper bag in a month?"How about when we had the newspaper delivered every day and we used paper bags for holding the newspapers and taking them to the recycling point?Does the author truly believe that NOBODY, ANYWHERE has a use for more than one paper bag per month?)She recommends paying someone else to do nearly every imaginable task, and her not-so-creative solutions to most organizing problems are to just "buy such-and-such a gizmo."If I HAD plenty of money to buy every organizing gizmo on the market, I WOULD NOT BE DISORGANIZED in the first place.

Finally, she routinely discourages respect for the other people in our lives. If someone is late for dinner, she says don't heat up his dinner, because his own poor time management is not your problem. So if my hard-working husband is late for dinner because a job took longer than anticipated I should leave him to fend for himself because it's technically "not my problem"?

I would skip this book, in favor of others whose authors are a little more knowledgeable AND gracious.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fluffy
This author has some great ideas, but the author includes too much fluf. Whenever a person writes a book, they have to include fluf, but I find myself uninterested in the fluf.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very little helpful advice
If you want to be told that you are a procrastinator and that you need to make a schedule to find the time to get organized than this book is for you. But if you are truly disorganized, sitting down and making a schedule is the last thing you will find the motivation to do. The author tells you,"don't procrastinate and get organized, set goals and make a schedule," but she doesn't offer any real techniques to help, and she attributes laziness to messiness. I recommend
you read, "The New Messies Manual," by Sandra Felton. She takes the time to explain why you are disorganized, and HOW to get organized. She explains how to change your thinking to help you change your habits. Unfortunately, I expected more of that from this book. It is a waste of money and very dissapointing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book
I pastor a church, sit on a management committee for a ranching operation, coach soccer, raise four kids with my wife, and I felt buried underneath the load. Before this, I was president of a bank for nearly eight years. I never got organized.I had become completely unproductive and couldn'tget out of the trap. Now, I have established goals and projects withdeadlines and I'm meeting the deadlines!!The office is ORGANIZED for thefirst time in my life.I'm out of the trap!!Thanks Stephanie.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone who has no time, energy, or free time
This book is well written, easy to understand and right on target.I am a person who works with computers on a day to day basis, and it is exactly what i have been looking for.If you have no time, no energy, no cleanarea in your home, have a ton of things to do, and are about overwhelmed byeverything that you need to do, and everything that you want to do.GETTHIS BOOK!!!!!!!It will definately help. The hardest part is picking itup, after that you will be on your way.. :-) ... Don't think spring is the only time you have to do your cleaning. This book will show you how to divide up the work by season.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Queen for All Seasons:By Linda Cobb
I think this book was very helpful to me in planning the different cleaning chores for all seasons. In stead of feeling like everything has to be done in the Spring of the year she shows you how to spread it out over the 12 months to accomplish the same results a clean house.I have tried may of her recipes for mixing up natural cleaning products and all I've tried have worked.I feel that Linda is really doing our planet some good by encouraging everyone to go back to using natural products and save our children, pets, planet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Uh hello?
For those of you who hire a cleaning service - this is obviously not the book for you.If I hired a company to paint my house, I wouldn't buy a book on how to paint.Common sense, don't you think?

I for one, don't care for fly fishing. But the last thing I would do is look up a book on fly fishing - and write a review telling everyone how boring it is to fish!

As a mother of 2 young children who is looking to better organize my daily activities and my household - I loved the book.I can't wait to read more of her work.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not all of us are SAHM's with nothing better to do...
than read about cleaning!Wake up!This is reality. Most women work. Most men work. Not all of us working people have kids to stay at home with. Some of us work for a living, which leaves little free time.Reality is that I happily pay a cleaning service to clean my home, do my laundry, etc...once a week. This enables us to enjoy what little free time we have with each other rather than spend it on the drudgery which is housework. You've no room to call the other reader a snob.

5-0 out of 5 stars A reader and real world person from ohio
First to the "snooty" I'll give mine away.. A reader from USA,
Since you received this for a shower gift, I can see why you were blinded with bliss. Has the real world set in yet? Well when it does, BUY the book, you'll need all the help it provides.
As for the millions of people who live in the real world this book is helpful, practical, and most importantly fun to read. Keep it as a reference when you are finished. QoC provides enjoyable reading and useful information for everyone, in each of her books. GREAT WORK!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's About More Than Your Stuff
The writing style in Stop Throwing Money Away reminds me of the kind of conversation you would have over coffee with a good friend, someone who would listen without judgment. The book is fun to read, gives lots of great tips, and provides a wonderful resource for how to make some money 'letting go' of your stuff.

Beyond that, the book describes sound ecological principles and in the mind of the reader it brings about an awareness of how much our desire for stuff has an impact on the planet.

But most importantly, the author gently prods us to question what our stuff means at the deepest level. What are we really hanging on to when we hang on to our stuff? Or continually accumulate more? For those who want to explore the answer to that question, Stop Throwing Money Away is a great place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's about your life!
This book is not just about stuff and clutter, it is about your life! With bright new ideas that are explained clearly and create a lot of "ah-ha" moments, Jamie helps us see the value of having the courage to look at how we view our "things". Written with humor in a fun, non-judgmental and easy to read way, this book can help by not only saving us money, but helping us understand the motivations behind why we are doing things the way we are doing them. Clear solutions are offered to make the changes that will improve our environment, our relationships, and ourselves. As a person that can be organizationally challenged at times I found this book delightful!

I was surprised by each new organizing tip that I had never before considered! And, most importantly she inspires you to take ACTION! In between sections, I found myself putting the book down and ripping the contents out of closets and cupboards using her invaluable techniques. Jamie Novak's method works!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Stop what your doing and get this book!
Jamie goes way beyond the "shop your closet" idea. She has great examples that help you get organized and recoup your cash. All the while helping the planet by reuse, repurpose, and recycling your clutter.

Everyone needs to read this book and keep it close for references. I know I am keeping mine next to my computer!

Inspirational!

5-0 out of 5 stars Organizing Tips
As a professional organizer I find this book both useful and insightful. The author has her information in a very easy to read manor. She also writes on a level of experience working with an organizing client. I would recommend this book to any one interested in organizing their own homes and also for anyone organizing others.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you want the bare-bones approach, this is it
All Stephanie Winston books have sold well, primarily to a corporate market. Winston's forte is ORGANIZING, which can aid readers in achieving; however, organization per se is not synonymous with simplicity (IRS forms are organized and hopelessly complex!) More-over, she rarely touches on the cerebral aspects of simplicity. The books tends to be dry and matter-of-fact -- perfect for gung-ho career-achiever types.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Little Disappointed
I was a little disappointed with this audio book.I am really looking to get things whipped into shape and organized, but I didn't find this very helpful. There are a lot of ideas, but they all seemed kind-of obvious and nothing really jumped out at me as a "great new idea".I thought she spent WAY too much time on explaining how to organize files, and not enough time on around the house organization ideas.I'm sure it is a good audio book, but it just wasn't what I personally was looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful tips for getting organized at work and home
There are lots of tips on this tape.I haven't had time to try them all out, but the ones I have tried work! I feel more organized already. It's a tape you'll want to listen to more than once.It helps that Stephanie hasa very pleasant voice. ... Read more

Product Description
Released on the first day of spring—just in time for spring cleaning—The Seeds of Clutter presents seventeen new habits, plus dozens of tips, for controlling common household clutter at its source.

“From little acorns mighty oaks do grow”
-Proverb

Just as most plants start as a seed, many piles of clutter can begin with a single misplaced item. These ‘clutter seeds’ often attract others, which take root and grow into new piles, changing an area of your home from clutter-free to clutter-prone. Allow this to happen often, and before you know it, you are knee deep in clutter.

Using a garden analogy, The Seeds of Clutter offers creative advice on how to:
- Break through the roadblocks preventing you from taking control
- Make the most efficient use of your available space and time
- Recognize and correct common mistakes that result in clutter
- Adjust the habits that generate clutter seeds
- Identify the attitudes that plant these seeds and nourish their growth

Learn to manage the stuff you already own, while preventing new things from becoming clutter.
