Product Description
The Hungarians and the Finns have had very few direct contacts in the historical past. These people have, however, shared a similar position in that they have both belonged to a group of small and medium-sized nations lying in a zone between East and West, which has sometimes been called "Europe Between". Despite the considerable differences between the two societies, it may be instructive to compare them. This was the basis for a dialogue between Hungarian and Finnish historians which began in the early 1980s, and it has provided the starting point for a number of conferences held in both countries. The present work is based on papers given at a conference arranged in Helsinki in 1998. The articles, written by Hungarian and Finnish historians, offer fresh perspectives both on the political history of the inter-war period especially with regard to parties and ideologies, which are examined from a comparitive standpoint, and on the position of the two countries during the Cold War. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Austria-Hungary," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Austria-Hungary in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Austria-Hungary when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Austria-Hungary, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
During the first decade after the turn towards democracy and market economy, Hungary's society experienced profound changes. The book analyses related political, legal, institutional and socio-economic structures and processes in order to contribute to a further understanding of Hungary's ongoing transformation processes and its current situation as one of the leading candidates for EU membership. The topics include constitutive elements of a modern market economy as well as education, income structures, the poverty situation, post-communist voting behaviour, regional and urban development and Hungary's cross-border co-operations. Product Description
Austria: Society and Regions is the first geographic work on Austria to appear since the 1920s. It presents the results of research in the fields of history, politics, regional planning, economics, sociology, and the earth sciences. It furnishes a representative introduction to the country and serves as an information base for the sophisticated general reader, with a wealth of maps and statistical data covering a variety of topics. In addition, it informs the international scientific community about Austrian problems of European relevance, for example the three-dimensional superimposition of the international leisure society upon the local society in high mountain environments, the impact of international migration on segregation in urban and rural areas, and the development of new regional disparities through the internationalization of the real estate market.
