Extractions: As is the case with any epic human struggle, the storylines of the Games were plentiful and deep. Among those who tugged at our heartstrings was Croatia's Janica Kostelic. Once a dominating force on the alpine World Cup circuit, she came into the Games as a "what might have been" thanks to three knee surgeries within the last year. But the human spirit should never be underestimated. At times it can even convince a battered body that all is well. Skiing with abandon, Kostelic became the darling of the alpine competition, winning a record four medals three of them gold. There were also moments that will forever be frozen in time. At Salt Lake, such a snapshot certainly would include a picture of Norway's Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. The stoic Bjoerndalen transcended his sport of biathlon with a steady hand, lightning-fast skis and a gracious smile. He won four gold medals the most in one Games by a biathlete and for good measure even took sixth in the 30km cross-country event.

Releases Sport Camps Kid's Club SASSO Jackie Barto, the first head coach of the Ohio State womens ice hockey team, is entering her fourth season with the Buckeyes. The first recruits in the history of the program will graduate this year and Barto will do all she can to ensure they leave the program on a high note. In three seasons at OSU, Barto has posted a 44-57-10 record. She has obtained a career record of 114-110-20 in eight years. In March 2001, Bartos young Buckeye squad took center stage at the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Championship. No. 5-seeded Ohio State had bulldozed past No. 4 St. Cloud State, and blanked No. 1 Minnesota to advance to the championship final but fell to eventual national champion Minnesota-Duluth. The Buckeyes dramatic run for a postseason title was a fitting end to their second campaign, which saw them skate to an 18-16-3 overall record (11-10-3 in the WCHA) and finish No. 8 in the national polls. Barto guided the program through a difficult first half of the 2000-01 season before engineering an impressive turnaround at the midway point of the year. The Buckeyes were 12-5-1 in their last 18 contests (after Jan. 1, 2001) and finished 7-1-0 at home after the December hiatus, with their only loss at the OSU Ice Arena coming against Minnesota. They ended the season on a six-game winning streak (including five shutouts) before falling to UMD in the WCHA Championship. Five Buckeyes nabbed postseason honors: senior center Corinne Rosen and goaltender April Stojak were named to the all-tournament team and Stojak, Carrie Gill, Lindsey Ogren and Lindsey Steblen represented Ohio State on the WCHA All-Academic Team with at least a 3.0 grade point average.

Extractions: Santa Rosa, CA 95403 The Redwood Empire Ice Arena is truly the most beautiful Ice Arena in the world. The Arena opened on April 28th, 1969 with a gala event starring the 1968 Olympic Gold Medallist Peggy Fleming and the The Vince Guaraldi trio. Just as with this opening ceremony so it has been for its entire history, the Redwood Empire Ice Arena has stood for quality. Its one-of-a-kind owner, the creator of Snoopy, Charles M. Schulz, only makes this one-of-a-kind facility possible. Mr. Schulz paid great attention to the design of the Arena which resembles a Swiss chalet. Inside, photo murals of the Swiss countryside line the walls along with finely crafted replicas of Swiss houses in relief, and life size trees. A uniquely hung ceiling of fiberglass sections, and thousands of lights provide a canopy for the brilliant 85' x 185' ice surface. In a matter of hours the building can be converted into a concert theater, seating 3,000 patrons. The arena has produced a myriad of events from concerts starring Liberace, Bill Cosby, Crystal Gayle, Helen Reddy, Bob Newhart, Beatlemania, and many others, to symphonic presentations, by the Santa Rosa Symphony, and the San Francisco Symphony. The arena's production story only begins with the concert list. There were also special events like the Senior Ladies Tennis Tournaments starring: Billie Jean King, and Rosie Casals; special Gala Dinner Dances; Regional and Sectional Figure Skating Championships; the annual Crystalline Classic Competition; the annual Snoopy's Senior World Hockey Tournament which yearly brings in 64 teams from around the world; and the arena's own annual professional Holiday Ice Show.

Montana Winter be traced to 1960, when the United States hockey in Big Sky Countrywon its firstOlympic Gold Medal when the US team created the Miracle on ice at Lake http://wintermt.com/other/hockey.htm
Extractions: Hockey in Montana Hockey History Montana Hockey Hockey History The national sport of Canada has also built a loyal following in America over the years. Perhaps the first big growth spurt can be traced to 1960, when the United States won its first Olympic Gold Medal in Squaw Valley, California. The second boom, of course, came in 1980, when the U.S. team created the "Miracle on Ice" at Lake Placid en route to beating the Soviet team for Gold. Even though women's hockey only became an Olympic sport in 1998, it's been an organized sport nearly as long as men's hockey. Women were playing in leagues as early as 1916. Today, Olympic dreams (and NHL dreams) fuel the fantasies of many youngsters across the U.S., and the ranks of amateur hockey give them the opportunity to hone their skills. Montana Ice Hockey All across Montana, hockey is a favorite winter sport. The Montana Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) sanctions programs in Billings, Butte, Bozeman, Glasgow, Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Miles City, Missoula, Helena and Whitefish. Each of these cities offer hockey for boys and girls according to age, much like little league baseball. Divisions include Tykes, Mites, Squirts, PeeWee, Bantam, Midget and Girls. In addition, Montana is home to five teams in the America West Junior "A" Hockey League: the Billings Bulls, the Bozeman Ice Dogs, the Butte Irish, the Great Falls Americans and the Helena Ice Pirates. Teams are well-supported in their communities, with some of the highest attendance among Junior "A" clubs in the nation. In addition, Montana teams have represented the America West league at the National Championships the past four years. (The city of Billings hosted those championships in 1998.) If you're looking for a way to chase off evening boredom, the puck stops here; catch a hockey game.
