   Extractions: Federal immigration law determines whether a person is an alien, and associated legal rights, duties, and obligations of aliens in the United states. It also provides means by which certain aliens can become naturalized citizens with full rights of citizenship. Immigration law serves as a gatekeeper for the nation's border: it determines who may enter, how long they may stay and when they must leave. The United States has a long history of immigration laws. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, (INA) with some major, and many minor changes, continues to be the basic immigration law of the country. The most significant ammendment to the INA was in 1965 which abolished the natural origin provisions, and established a new quota system. For INA purposes, an "alien" is any person who is not a citizen or a national of the United States. There are different categories of aliens: resident and nonresident, immigrant and nonimmigrant, documented and undocumented ("illegal" ). Congress has total and complete authority over immigration. Power of the President is limited to policies on refugees. Unless the issue concerns the rights of aliens to constitutional protections the courts have rarely intruded.

I survived the Soviet and German occupattion, and WWII. 1949 I joined the Baltic Guards, in Germany, to protect U.S.A. Army installations. 1951 January, I immigrated to the U.S.A., legally, from a DP Camp in Germany. 1951 December the 4th, I enlisted in the USA Army to fight Communism in Korea. I served with the 82nd Air Born and was honorably discharged in 1955. 1967 again I volunteered my life to defend the USA and it's people and joined the Naval Reserve during the Vietnam conflict. To old for the 82nd. My military discharge papers state that I am a naturalized USA citizen. The INS claims the Army makes mistakes. I made my living as a heavy equipment operator and mining supervisor, and also drove commercial trucks across the USA for 30 years, until the injuries I had sustained on the job worsened and forced me to retire. In November, 2000 I was asked to drive and deliver a motor home from Puerto Penasco, Mexico to Tucson AZ. I was offered $2000.00 for my service. However, concealed in the motor home was 357lb of marijuana. 2001, in May I was convicted and sentenced to time served of one year and released in the INS custody to Florence AZ INS Detantion Center. 2002 in April the 2nd I was ordered, by an INS Judge, to be deported to Latvia. My case has been in appeal with the BIA for nearly a year now. I am waiting in jail.
