Elementary education is a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences major leading to either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. The secondary education programs combine a specific liberal arts and sciences academic major with teacher preparation course work leading to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. The college also provides numerous specialized elementary (including early childhood) and secondary teaching endorsement programs. Preparation for special education teaching is offered primarily at the graduate level. In addition, a new undergraduate multicategorical resource program is available for elementary education students admitted to this program. A limited number of undergraduate special education courses are open to all students who are interested in this area, to those from other teacher education programs, and to those planning to pursue graduate degrees in special education. Undergraduate students admitted to a teacher education program (TEP) must complete all College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education requirements for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. The quantitative or formal reasoning component must be satisfied with a college-level mathematics course.

Davenport will receive $20 million. The board is also hearing from Ames, Newton and Ottumwa. Officials in Newton want to develop a racetrack, while Ames is seeking a nature area and Ottumwa wants to do a riverfront development. Also at the meeting, a review panel voted to approve a grant of nearly $144,000 to Maquoketa for a fine arts center. Local officials will have to come up with $250,000. The panel also voted to open negotiations with Mason City over a $1.5 million plan to develop a performing arts center named after composer Meredith Willson. Officials from Ames and Ottumwa are expected to make presentations at the meeting. Newton officials will also go before the board. They are asking for funding for the proposed Iowa Motor Speedway.
