5-0 out of 5 stars An iguana is no picnic
Speaking as someone who has inherited two iguanas from my brother, they aren't easy animals to care for.People tend to think that they're like cats, that you can just let them roam freely without a thought. But iguanas are complicated pets, with very specific needs in terms of food, temperature, and attention. This book is an excellent introduction to anyone who either owns an iguana or is considering owning one. They aren't just simple lizards. They're like children, with all the same needs and demands.I daresay that iguanas even have emotional needs that aren't often talked about, and my one disappointment about this book was that, like all the others, it tends to downplay the emotional complexity of reptiles.Lizards do get lonely, just like dogs.If you leave an iguana to roam freely in a troubled household, I guarantee you will learn to recognize a neurotic lizard. No, they don't become obsessive-compulsive or anything. But I've seen iguanas refuse to eat, tear up kitchens and sofas out of spite, intentionally hurt themselves, and bite dinner guests. The book is a tremendous guide to these sensitive animals, but it does not delve deeply into rehabilitating those pets that have been mistreated in the past, and one should never think that just because reptiles lack the same brain structure as mammals that they bear no signs of earlier abuse.Iguanas need love just like everything else, from ferrets to pythons, and the book, while solid in the practical sense, needs to stress this even more.

Giant Green Iguanas have become a very popular pet in recent years. Unfortunately, too many people who own iguanas either don’t have the right care information or are given the wrong information, and many of these iguanas do not make it to adulthood. The Iguana Den’s Care and Keeping of Giant Green Iguanas provides tested, true, and up to date methods of iguana husbandry that have been developed from years of rescuing and rehabbing iguanas. This book is a must-have for both new and experienced iguana keepers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on iguana care
This book should be a required read for anyone considering owning an iguana as well as expierenced owners. There is so many sources of inconsisant information out there, some of which can be very harmful to the iguana. This book is not one of them.It is very clear, to the point and easy to read.It puts all the facts and important information in one place from setting up an enclosure to feeding, taming and daily requirements.Iguanas are not for everyone and this book lays it on the line for you as to what you are getting into.It is definatly one of my favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent care resource with PROPER information!
This manual is one of the three best Green Iguana care guides out. I recommend it for ANYONE with a giant green iguana, regardless of their expertise level. From novice to experienced keeper, there's a lesson for everyone! The book covers in depth day to day care, taming, feeding, socialization, sanitary issues, health care, and more. It is a must have for the Iguana keeper. So many books today have outdated, and downright dangerous, information in them. This book is NOT one of these. The information is clear, concise, and written in a format that is both easy to read as well as understandable. For all ages, this book is a resource that can't be missed!

Product Description
Iguana sizzles with the arrogance, obsession and rampant excesses characteristic of the titans of the energy trade of the late '80s and the '90s. Taut, compelling and believable, Iguanais a vividly textured roller-coaster ride that captivates the reader in the early chapters, tightens the grip in the middle and accelerates toward its exhilarating and satisfying conclusion at break neck speed. Rick Pope has everything a young rising star could want... stellar career prospects... a beautiful wife... a high-rise condo in the museum district... but... life as he knows it is irrevocably changed with one deadly career decision in this gripping tale of corruption. In this engrossing page-turner, Pope, a promising young energy executive, is plunged into a web of intrigue involving a powerful South American crime syndicate, one supported by a global infrastructure. He and his lovely wife, Mattie, finding themselves inextricably embroiled in a deadly game of wits, hunted by the syndicate and the FBI, seek the protection of former agent Kurt Braun, aided by the beautiful and cunning CIA officer, Beatriz Chavez. The reward of winning is great, and Rick and Mattie must balance that reward against the cost of their lives. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me?
I bought this book based on other reviews. This is possibly the worst book that I ever tried to read.Did the author or one of his friends post the 5-star review?

5-0 out of 5 stars Provocative and Fun
Overall, I'd say nice plot, great characters and very suspenseful.Actually, I started Iguana on the plane and finished it three days later in the hotel. I couldn't put it down because, by the end of the fifth chapter, the Popes and the Giamalva ring had already set a nice tempo that made for a great page-turner. I look forward to St. James next thriller.

2-0 out of 5 stars What's All the Hype about?
I read this book based on recommendations from other readers. Frankly, I don't understand why they love the book. The characters are under-developed and the plot is lacking creativity. I think St. Jude is living his life through the main character. It's an OK read, but not great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating, provocative and ingenious story-telling
By far one of the best reads I've enjoyed over the past year - and I read mountains as a feature writer - IGUANA is, hands down, a stunning achievement. The characterization is superb, the suspense is uncanny, and the scene shifts and plot twining are masterful. St. James sustains and elevates the supense through neck-snapping scene shifts that leave the reader begging for more. Plot, action, suspense, setting and characterization all conspire to produce a five-star turn-on, and the beautiful and ingenious CIA agent Beatriz Chavez is positively dazzling in this international spine-tingler. Protagonist Rick Pope has everything a young rising star could want: stellar career prospects, a beautiful wife and a high rise condo in the museum district. However, life, as he knows it, is irrevocably changed with one deadly career move. As the new chief financial officer of Quantergy, a company whose exponential growth has positioned it to become one of the leading independent energy companies in the world, Pope uncovers illegitimate sources of offshore seed capital concealed by elaborate chains of ownership that ultimately lead to a global crime syndicate organized by Vicente Giamalva. Unearthing evidence of a conspiracy that would topple key figures in both the underworld and the overworld and linking the murder of a key commission staffer to the Giamalva ring, Pope finds himself and his lovely wife, Mattie, targeted by the syndicate and dogged by the FBI. Theres ostensibly no way out, he has no choice but to play in a high-stakes game, and any next move could prove fatal. Thus mired, Pope must rely increasingly on the retained services of former FBI agent Kurt Braun who is aided by the cunning Chavez. There is a big payout, however, and the Popes must balance that reward against the cost of their lives. Don't bother to find a book mark. This one you will not want to put down. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars All About Iguanas
From the back cover:
"Iguanas are amoung the most popular of all reptiles, and with good reason.Fascinating in both looks and behavior, they are highly interesting to keep and observe. This excellent text provides a useful guide to the selection and care of iguanas of all types and is especially useful for it's fine portrayal of different species in both full color and black and white photos."

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated Information Dangerous for Iguanas
This book suggests two things that condemn it as being an unreliable source. It suggests that hatchling iguanas eat insects as a part of their diet. This has been shown not to be true.Iguanas eat only vegetable matter their whole lives and diets with high animal protein can kill themby age 6 (the process is slow and unnoticeable). The second suggestionthat iguanas need to ingest gravel to aid digestion will be much morequickly fatal to an iguana.Iguanas are not birds and do not have anyrequirement for gravel. This book was published in 1976 and theinformation has been since proven harmful.

Product Description
Ink-Spring Ithaca Iguana is Munayem Mayenin's 8th Poetry Collection. In this collection Mayenin crafts poetry in the solidified form of Triplets. Here, he tries to fathom the phenomenon of love in the nature. Here Mayenin sees love as an elaborate expression that borrows everything from nature and manifests itself in a beautiful manner that, in desire and longing, seeks both spirituality and, according to a reader, a 'natural andbeautiful eroticism' which almost appears as natural a the sun lights making love with the Scottish Heather or the White Cliff is being serenaded by the sea or the sky making love with the lake. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars response from author--problems fixed
Hi. I'm the author of this book. I just want to report that the problems mentioned by the previous reviewer have been fixed in the reprint. I just finished working on the corrections. This reprint should be available in May. I understand why the photos caused such concern and I can assure you they have been changed to my satisfaction. I have done my best to make this book useful and enjoyable.

2-0 out of 5 stars Iguanas not simple; poor photo editing mars decent book
Anything published by T.F.H raises a red flag--they are notorious for outdated animal care information and obvious product-placement in photos to increase sales.

Flipping through the book, looking at photos like most readers, I see on pg. 14 that food offered to an adult iguana is in small chunks. This might work for an iguana of that size, but food should be shredded for younger and smaller iguanas.

On pg. 29, the photo used to show the sub-tympanic scale (slightly cropped on the right edge) also shows a developing abscess on the ig's lower jaw. I wonder if the picture editor really knew anything about iguanas--the way the photo is framed, it seems it was made to show the abscess, not the sub-tympanic scale and should have been rejected since the animal is not 100% healthy. The photo on page 41, poor handling technique is used to show femoral pores.

The worst example, however, is the photo on pg. 110, where an ig is offered a cricket via hemostats. The caption reads," Crickets and other animal matter are vital to an iguana's diet," yet within the actual text, the author states, "Never feed your iguana any animal protein."

Reading the text, this book is a decent guide to iguana care. However, the Polaroid-formatted photos and captions utterly undermine the text and, I suspect, the author's intent. Just who decided on the photos and their captions? Hopefully, should a 2nd edition be printed, these errors will be corrected!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this one......
I had the pleasure of reading "Last Summer" by this author and went on to buy up her entire back list. She is an excellent author, has a wonderful pacing to her books, and has an ability to make "common" story lines fresh and exciting.I keep on wondering why she never made it as big as other authors have...it's certainly not her talent!

Dylan Davis is a mess.He is a cop who's on administrative leave after one of the "bad guys" who was out to kill HIM mistakenly shot and killed Dylan's GIRLFRIEND.He feels responsible and has secluded himself on Iguana Bay to "heal".In actuality he's drinking himself to death.

Dylan learns that the gunman who shot his girlfriend is up on murder charges for someone else, but has an alibi that he is keeping "safe" until the trial.Dylan decides that he needs to kidnap this alibi so that she won't be able to testify on behalf of this killer, and he will get the prison sentence that he deserves.

Elise Ramsey is the alibi.Dylan kidnaps her and brings her to Iguana Bay to hold her captive until after the trial is over. This "bounty hunter" romance quickly morphs into a "cabin romance" as Elise's initial fear of Dylan turns to interest, attraction, lust, and finally love.

I love Weir's ability with human emotion and dialogue. It is witty, sweet, and moving all at the same time. She is not to be missed and I have yet to read anything by her that was anything but entertaining and unforgettable! ... Read more

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Iguana," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Iguana in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Iguana when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Iguana, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Skip this book
The only thing about this book that I liked was the pictures. Besides that it was a waste of money. Thankfully I bought it used and only paid a few dollars. Save your money and buy something more useful.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU WANT A DEAD IGUANA!
I wanted to give this book zero stars but it wouldn't let me! Here are some very bad items I found in this book. It is without a doubt the worst book I've ever seen on iguana care. The epidemic of bad information oniguana care is killing iguanas every day.Foods recommended that are notgood for iguanas: lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, pineapples, boiled potatoes, broccoli, and "so on" as the author vaguely says.Plant:animalprotein ratio of 4:1 when any smart iguana owner knows that it shouldalways be 1:0!Pea sized gravel for substrate? No particulate substratesshould ever be used.He recommends insects and tells how to catchthem...when all animal (and insect) protein is deadly. The photos in thisbook show how bad it really is. I could quote several very bad things theauthor says about iguanas, but I'd rather just give a quote of my own,"Buy Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual by James Hatfield ifyou care about the health of your iguana!"If you see this book in apet store, hide it before it kills another iguana.

1-0 out of 5 stars Glossy photos, poor information
I bought this book before I really knew about caring for iguanas. If I had known better, I would have saved my money. The nutritional information in not up-to-date, the substrate suggestions are ludicrous, and the book seems more dedicated to being one big ad for useless commercial reptile products than to helping iguana owner keep their pets happy and healthy. If you are serious about owning an iguana, buy Jame's hatfield's Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual or do some research on line.

2-0 out of 5 stars Deadly misinformation
I got this book before I got my first green iguana.I found it informative, useful and full of excellent pictures. As far as I knew, it was a great book. When I built by iguana habitat, I used much of the information the book gave. For a substrate, it suggested using gravel, particularly pea stones.I followed the advice and the habitat looked beautiful.Over the months my one iguana started going downhill. She started having little problems which I was able to treat. She had blood tests and numerous veterinarian visits (the bills added up).She then started bloating terribly after each feeding.I finally got an x-ray and it showed that she had ingested numerous rocks off the floor of her cage. She now needs surgery and I only hope that she makes it.I've now read in other books that gravel is one of the worst substrates you can use.Although the book was useful in a lot of ways, I worry about how many people are using gravel as a substrate because of the advice received from this book.END

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST REVIEW OF EXOTIC GREEN IGUANAS
