Product Description

This book compiles compiles articles from cancer researchers who strive to explore every opportunity to develop better diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic strategies for cancer. The presentations outline recent research findings on colon cancer and their clinical implications of interest to gastroenterologists, oncologists, and basic scientists active in clinical research. The authors place emphasis on new insights that either have the potential for clinical applications or are already being utilized in experimental clinical approaches. Papers are contributed by experts from eight countries and from several scientific and clinical disciplines, including molecular genetics, bio-chemistry, immunology, internal medicine, gastroenterology, and pathology.

Contributors include Christoph Hanski, Steven H. Itzkowitz, Ian Tomlinson, Jurgen Behrens, Wolfgang G. Ballhausen, C. Richard Boland, Jeremy R. Jass, Gabriela Moslein, Ruth Krause-Paulus, R. Hegger, G. Peterschulte, and T. Vogel.

Product Description
Immunology is the area of life science concerned with how an organism fights infection and disease. To defend itself, the body makes use of the immune system, a complex set of specialized cells and organs that cooperate together to fight disease. This involves protecting us against invading bacteria and viruses, eliminating other foreign substances from the body, and destroying cancer cells. As the immune system is so important, diseases of the system can often be fatal - for example HIV/AIDS.

With an editorial board containing 12 Nobel laureates, this invaluable collection of high-quality articles on immunology is taken from the successful Meyer's Encyclopedia of Molecular Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine.

Clearly divided into four main sections, this ready reference covers innate and adaptive immunity, signaling in the immune system, techniques, and immunological disorders.

The articles are uniformly structured for ease of use, carefully designed to aid readers of all levels of expertise. To this end, each chapter includes a glossary of the most important keywords, a concise summary of the article and comprehensive literature references.

This title is essential reading on the hottest topics in immunity today. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
This fascinating intellectual history is the first critical study of the work of Elie Metchnikoff, the founding father of modern immunology. Metchnikoff authored and championed the theory that phagocytic cells actively defend the host body against pathogens and diseased cells. His program developed from comparative embryological studies that sought to establish genealogical relations between species at the dawn of the Darwinian revolution. In this scientific biography, Tauber and Chernyak explore ore Metchnikoff's development as an embryologist, showing how it prepared him to propose his theory of host-pathogen interaction. They discuss the profound impact of Darwin's theory of evolution on Metchnikoff's progress, and the influence of 19th century debates on vitalism, teleology, and mechanism. As a case study of scientific discovery, this work offers lucid insight into the process of creative science and its dependence on cultural and philosophic sources. Immunologists and historians of science and medicine will find it an absorbing and accessible account of a remarkable individual. ... Read more

Product Description
Immunological memory has fascinated microbiologists and immunologists for decades as one of the new frontiers to conquer to better understand the response to pathogens, cancer and vaccination. Over the past decade, attention has turned to the intrinsic properties of the memory T cells themselves, as it has become clear that the eradication of both infected cells and tumors requires T cells. This book is an attempt to capture the wave of discoveries associated with these recent studies. Its chapters represent a wide collection of topics related to memory T cells by laboratories that have invested their skills and knowledge to understand the biology and the principles upon which memory T cells are generated, maintained and expanded upon re-encounter with antigen. Ultimately, these studies are all aimed at a better understanding of the function of memory T cells in protection against disease. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars alright
it was the book and used. a little bent and worn. butstill the book and intact

5-0 out of 5 stars Immuno-freakin-ology
Buy the newer edition cause it is updated. There are a few things missing from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Speedy service
Book came very quickly in great shape exactly as described on the website.I would order another book from them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Confusing Book
This book is written from a researchers point of view. It thoroughly describes how and why a "insert concept" was discovered and why it's important.
However, no test you will ever take will ask you any of that information. To read this book, you're required to dig through the text and hunt for important facts. The authors go off on too many tangents.

I purchased this book instead, Immunology for Medical Students: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Accessand highly recommend it. It's written from a medical provider's point of view. So all the unnecessary information is cut out.
You are left with only key concepts and chapters that are no more than 10 pages long.

If you're required to buy the Kuby for class, I still recommend buying the Immuno for Med. Students as a reference.
