5-0 out of 5 stars The only cookbook that I keep coming back to
I picked up this Indian cookbook at a [local store] for [price]. Among 100 or more cookbooks that I have this is the one that I use most of the time. All the dishes that I have done from this one was fantastic. I am a novice cook yet when I make dishes from this book it turns out to be terrific. Instructions are great, every other recipe has a great photograph (I would have preferred photographs for every recipe), the dishes taste authentic Indian.

I have all sort of cookbooks - bestselling, highly recommended, award winning, both Indian and western (Madhur Jaffreys, Betty Crockers, Julia Childs ...). Yet when I want to cook I always pick up this book. Now that I have used this book, I would recommend it very highly even at the ... price Amazon asks for it. If you want to get a book that you will read, use, love and soil with splatter from cooking then I suggest get this one.

The dishes are distinctly north Indian with touch of Pakistani flavours. It has lots of curries, lamb, chicken recipes, some vegetables and sweets. I found majority dishes on the hot side and with large amount of oil/ghee. If you are looking for a weight watcher's menu then don't get this one. The target audience is Indians living abroad so the ingredients are those that can be found in your local Indian groceries.

All in all get the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Home food at someone elses place!
The book pulls foodies such as me wanting to try yet another dishto make my present and temporary accomodation feel like home. Living abroad I have found that the book has simple yet interesting approaches to make simple curries.I am extremely happy to find the varied ingredients of this book avaliable in the big Super stores here in England.Mostly with the lack of time I am fairly confident to produce a dish from this book within a 30-45 min span. Its highly convinient and mostly amazing food is created that takes me closer to home every week. Therefore worth owning and showing off the curries to the mate over a pint of lager.

5-0 out of 5 stars authentic indian in your own home
If the mouth-watering photographs don't get you, the simple-to-followrecipes surely will. It breaks the misconception that good Indian food mustbe difficult to cook. The clear and concise methodology of the recipes iswhat makes it a firm favourite. This is also a collection of some of thefinest array of dishes one will find in any cook book from thesub-continent. The fact that the book's author is not a professional chefmeans that this book is a true labour of love. So next time instead ofstepping out for that curry... get this book and try your hand at ahome-made meal. You will be surprised with what you may achieve. ... Read more

Product Description
Detailed instructions for creating a home that harmonizes with the natural and spiritual energies of its environment.* Unlike feng shui, which favors adding "cures" to cover existing problems, vaastu (like holistic medicine) focuses on fixing underlying problems for the health of the entire system.* By the director of the foremost vaastu center in India.* Includes 100 line drawings to make all the complexities of vaastu understandable to a beginner.

Feng shui practitioners are quickly discovering vaastu, the Indian art of environmental design that helps you create a home that is in harmony with the natural and spiritual energies surrounding it. Until now, books on vaastu have told you where to place your doors or ponds without fully explaining the rationale behind this. The Vaastu Workbook presents vaastu as it was meant to be understood--as an interconnected part of the great Indian tradition of sacred knowledge, along with yoga, ayurveda, and astrology.

Using hundreds of clear line drawings, The Vaastu Workbook takes you through every conceivable vaastu situation, exploring the dos and don'ts of window and door placement, interior design, street focus, directional facing, landscaping, and much more. Introductory chapters provide a thorough grounding in the basics of Indian astrology, the five elements, and the healing tradition of ayurveda, all of which is necessary to truly understand the details of vaastu. With this knowledge in hand, even a beginner can quickly learn how to design a new home--or renovate an existing one--in order to bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to those who live there. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars More fake vaastu
The author has taken a greeat deal of time to the study of Vaastu. However, much of the information in this book is erroneous and based on superstition rather than fact.He cites the Brihat Samhita which is not a Vaastu Shastra. It is a piecemeal review of a few vaastu principles many of which are erroneous. The Brihat Samita is more of an astrology text than a Vaastu text and cannot be relied upon for knolwedge on Vaastu Shastras.Vaastu has nothing to do with astrology. You can read 32 Vaastu Shastras and you will find only one reference to astrology in most of them.It simply does not apply. The principles put out in this book come from Feng Shui and not Vaastu Shastra. The author clearly means well but is not properly informed. One of the problems with modern Vaastu is that people are studying with others who are not of the Vishwakarma or related traditions. The only people one should study with are traditional Shilpi Gurus - there is only one living today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vaastu Workbook
I have read many books on vaastu and this has been the best one I have read.Ihave referred to it many times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good value, brief and to the point
This has been a great book for someone who needs a quick read on vastu. Fantastic if you are planning renovations in your existing home or building a new home. Gives u easy to read and follow instructions, very good for quick reference to a vast and complex subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
This book is an absolute must for those really interested in Vastu
- Whether you read any other chapter or not, chapter 5 and 7 are absolute must.

4-0 out of 5 stars My life related to the examples given
Because of some negative occurrences in my life over a long period of time I started to look into what might be causing the bad fortune.I had read about feng sui and was guided to Vaastu and ordered this book.I was surprised when I read the examples how closely they reflected what was happening in my life.I am definitely looking at moving from my home - the conditions can not be changed - and interested in seeing what happens. At this point, I really don't have much more to loose and can only gain by looking into a residence that reflects the requirements of Vaastu. ... Product Description
The complete Kama Sutra by Mallanaga Vātsyāyana (translated by Sir Richard Burton) fully illustrated with full page images of the Kamasutra Sex Positions.

This is a delightful book in many ways.

i) Sir Richard Burton's translation is elegantly written and a pleasure to read.

ii) It contains 90 beautiful Kama Sutra pictures - including 25 full page images of the Kama Sutra sex positions (warning- the ancient Indian artwork is sexually explicit).

iii) The Kama Sutra contains remarkably honest knowledge on how to cultivate our sensual / sexual pleasures by cultivating our mind, body and space (to fully appreciate and enjoy human existence).

iv) The work itself is an important part of our cultural evolution, containing a great deal of wisdom about how to be an enlightened creatively cultivated human being.

v) Being written in India (100AD ~ 600AD) it is not significantly influenced by western Christian morals that dominated western attitudes on sex.

This is a beautiful book - beautifully illustrated - rich in detail - a must read for any person serious about their sexuality and its creative cultivation to enhance their sexual relationships.

We hope you enjoy the Kama Sutra.

From the book ...

"Man, the period of whose life is one hundred years, should practise Dharma, Artha, and Kama at different times and in such a manner that they may harmonize together and not clash in any way. He should acquire learning in his childhood, in his youth and middle age he should attend to Artha and Kama, and in his old age he should perform Dharma, and thus seek to gain Moksha, i.e., release from further transmigration.

Dharma is obedience to the command of the Shastra or Holy Writ - one's righteous duty or virtuous path.

Artha is the acquisition of arts, land, gold, cattle, wealth, equipages and friends. It is, further, the protection of what is acquired, and the increase of what is protected.

Kama is the enjoyment of appropriate objects by the five senses of hearing, feeling, seeing, tasting, and smelling, assisted by the mind together with the soul. The ingredient in this is a peculiar contact between the organ of sense and its object, and the consciousness of pleasure which arises from that contact is called Kama.
Kama is to be learnt from the Kama Sutra (aphorisms on love) and from the practice of citizens."

5-0 out of 5 stars Kama Sutra: The Erotic Art of Love and Sex (Kamasutra Sex Positions Pictures: Fully Illustrated)
Title: Kama Sutra: The Erotic Art of Love and Sex (Kamasutra Sex Positions Pictures: Fully Illustrated) (Kindle Edition)

This is a beautiful book in many ways.

It presents knowledge gained over centuries from the remarkably aware culture of ancient India, with both metaphysical and practical components. The aim, to live free creative enlightened lives -to be moral, practical and sensual / sexual. It is this philosophical substance to the Kama Sutra, its honest truth, that has made it one of the most famous and enduring works of literature and sexuality.

This Kindle eBook is beautifully illustrated with full page pictures of all the Kama Sutra Sex positions (which are the most famous part of the book - and the images are both captivating and erotic).

The language is formal, old fashioned, quaint - yet somehow this gives the book an elegant charm.

All in all - the Kama Sutra contains enormous wisdom about how we can cultivate ourselves to increase the pleasure in our lives. Every thinking person should read it.
As translator Sir Richard F. Burton wrote;

"It is a work that should be studied by all, both old and young; the former will find in it real truths, gathered by experience, and already tested by themselves, while the latter will derive the great advantage of learning things, which some perhaps may otherwise never learn at all, or which they may only learn when it is too late." (Richard F. Burton)

5-0 out of 5 stars Kamasutra: Fully Illustrated Sexual Positions (With Full Page Images of Kamasutra Sex Positions) (Kindle Edition)
The Kamasutra is ultimately about wisdom and our creative cultivation. It covers the three aims of life, virtue (dharma), prosperity (artha), and love (kama). It is a philosophical work that discusses sexuality and its cultivation openly and honestly.
The book includes a fully illustrated section showing the complete Kama Sutra Sex Positions with full page pictures.

Some sexual wisdom from the book.
'Kama Sutra: The Erotic Art of Love and Sex (Fully Illustrated Kamasutra Sex Positions & Pictures)'

"The Kama Sutra is not a pornographic work. First and foremost, it is a picture of the art of living for the civilised and refined citizen, completing in the sphere of love, eroticism and the pleasures of life."

Some Wisdom from the 64 Arts (these are the skills that should be cultivated by both men and women).

"Singing, Playing on musical instruments, Dancing, Writing and drawing, Culinary art, Practice with sword, bow and arrow, Drawing inferences and reasoning, Architecture, Chemistry and mineralogy, Colouring jewels, gems and beads, Gardening, Art of applying perfumed ointments to the body, and of dressing the hair with unguents and perfumes and braiding it, Knowledge of language and of the vernacular dialects, Composing poems, Knowledge of the art of changing coarse and common things to appear as fine and good, Knowledge of the rules of society, and of how to pay respect and compliments to others, Knowledge of the art of war, Knowledge of gymnastics, Art of knowing the character of a man from his features, Making figures and images in clay."

"A public woman, endowed with a good disposition, beauty and other winning qualities, and also versed in the above arts, obtains the name of a Ganika, or public woman of high quality, and receives a seat of honour in an assemblage of men. She is, moreover, always respected by the king, and praised by learned men, and her favour being sought for by all, she becomes an object of universal regard."

"A man who is versed in these arts, who is loquacious and acquainted with the arts of gallantry, gains very soon the hearts of women, even though he is only acquainted with them for a short time."

The book is beautifully written and illustrated with full page pictures of all the kama sutra sex postions. It provides an open honest discussion of human sexuality which is important in understanding our own biological and cultural evolution.
The central premise - we must know the truth to act wisely - and our social and sexual instincts can be creatively cultivated to greatly improve our life and relationships.
Enjoy the Kama Sutra - In Theory and in Practice! ... Read more

Most people don't even know that prehistoric Indians in the northeast created art similar to those in the southwest - that is because the drawings are chipped in stone and can sometimes only be seen when the sun is at the right angle.Lenik has been traveling throughout the northeast, discovering and studying these drawings, for years. This is his first book on the topic (another is on the way).

Ed's clear prose is the epitome of archaeological accuracy - I know that because every time I bring him what I think is a prehistoric Indian artifact, he laughs at me.The writing is accompanied by the fine artwork of Tom Fitzgerald and many photographs by both of them. The edition is well-crafted with thick pages, high resolution images and is a pleasure to read. ... Product Description
This comprehensive view of carvings and paintings on stone by Native Americans from 200 B.C. through the nineteenth century surveys the rock art of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, northern Mexico, and west Texas, providing an incomparable visual record of Southwest Indian culture, religion, and society.

Rock carvings and paintings are important sources in the archaeological and historical interpretation of Southwest Indians. Rock art reflects the cosmic and mythic orientation of the culture that produced it, and understanding of prehistoric peoples, both hunters and gatherers and the Hohokam, Anasazi, Mogollon, and Fremont cultures, and the Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache Indians. Culturally significant events such as the shift in prehistoric times from spear and atlatl to the bow, or, in the historic period, the introduction of the horse into the Southwest, are recorded in rock art.

The illustrations--thirty-two color plates, nearly 250 photographs, and numerous line drawings--bring together in one volume petroglyphs and rock paintings that are scattered over thousands of miles of desert and mesa, giving the reader an overview of Indian rock art that would be nearly impossible to achieve in the field.

Indian Rock Art of the Southwest examines from an archaeological perspective the rich legacy of stone drawings and carvings preserved throughout the Southwest. Professional and amateur archaeologists and historians, as well as the general reader with an interest in Indian art, will find this volume a valuable resource. ... Read more

Product Description
The Plains region that stretches from northern Colorado to southern Alberta and from the Rockies to the western Dakotas is the land of the Cheyenne and the Blackfeet, the Crow and the Sioux. Its rolling grasslands and river valleys have nurtured human cultures for thousands of years. On cave walls, glacial boulders, and riverside cliffs, native people recorded their ceremonies, vision quests, battles, and daily activities in the petroglyphs and pictographs they incised, pecked, or painted onto the stone surfaces. In this vast landscape, some rock art sites were clearly intended for communal use; others just as clearly mark the occurrence of a private spiritual encounter. Elders often used rock art, such as complex depictions of hunting, to teach traditional knowledge and skills to the young. Other sites document the medicine powers and brave deeds of famous warriors. Some Plains rock art goes back more than 5,000 years; some forms were made continuously over many centuries.Archaeologists James Keyser and Michael Klassen show us the origins, diversity, and beauty of Plains rock art. The seemingly endless variety of images include humans, animals of all kinds, weapons, masks, mazes, handprints, finger lines, geometric and abstract forms, tally marks, hoofprints, and the wavy lines and starbursts that humans universally associate with trance-like states. Plains Indian Rock Art is the ultimate guide to the art form. It covers the natural and archaeological history of the northwestern Plains; explains rock art forms, techniques, styles, terminology, and dating; and offers interpretations of images and compositions. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not enough detail
I was looking for more detail, more beadwork, etc. This would be a great book for Boy Scouts, or older kids wanting to do crafts.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for basic Native American crafts
The book is interesting reading but lacks historical referance that his second book has. Most of the items in this book are for "display" purposes ONLY!
