This book offers a nice look at several stringed instruments a young person may be thinking about playing!
There are many different stringed instruments that you may be considering learning to play.One of the more popular orchestral stringed instruments is the violin. This instrument has four strings and can be played using a bow or, in some instances, "by plucking the strings with your fingers."The term for this is pizzicato.This book tells you about the basic parts of the violin, how it is played, how sound is produced, you will learn about how the strings vibrate, the pitch of musical notes, the types of sounds each string makes, how a violin is tuned and will get a very basic look at music notation.The viola looks very similar to the violin, but it is larger "and has a lower pitch."

Even larger than both the violin and the viola are the cello and the double bass, both of which are usual played while seated.Guitars are often a popular choice for young people.There are "two kinds of guitars--acoustic and electric."The acoustic guitar is also known as the "Spanish guitar."You can get a glimpse of how these instruments are played and you can learn the basic parts.Other stringed instruments shown are the kora, the sitar, the bouzouki, the harp and the balalaika. You will also learn what an orchestra and a stringed quartet are.Do you have in mind any particular stringed instrument that you would like to play?

Expensive sales brochure.
To add to the comments above- on the back of this book it states that it includes code. This is blatantly not true- there is no code. There is no CD. There is no pointer to a URL where the code can be obtained...

The back also claims the book contains "detailled" explanations of how the problems in each case study were tackled. Bull. Calling phrases like "An algorythm was designed" detailed is working in a rather odd version of English. A beta perhaps.

Don't buy this book, it's pointless. The paper's too smooth to even employ as emergency bog roll.

Simply a Collection of Brief Case Studies
If you are looking for LabVIEW code examples or techniques, then don't bother with this book.

This is simply a collection of case studies,similar to the application notes available on the National Instruments website.There are cases using DAQ and IMAQ (vision), which are divided intochapters for automotive, biomedical, semiconductor, telecommunications and"general" testing (interestingly, the title wasn't even in thecorrect order).All cases have equipment lists and contact information fordeveloper of the case.Possibly, these developers might be willing toshare more information about their projects than is described in this book. Some cases have photographs of LabVIEW front panels (instrumentinterfaces), but I did not find any code examples or algorithms.

Overall,I would not bother with this book.Similar information can be found freelyon the National Instruments web site.I have several other books in the NIVirtual Instrumentation series and all were much better.

What? They charge money for this?
This book is nothing but a sales promotion piece that wants you to contact National Instrument Alliance members to do this sort of work for you. They were giving this book away free of charge at a Labview seminar. There isvery little useful information here. It may give you some ideas, but thereare no examples or instructions on how to do any of the projects mentioned.Sorry, don't waste your money.

I found an example application in the book that was close to what I was working on. Although the write up was a little short, it showed I was on the right track.
