This book is totally amazing i got it to study up on some of the more popular historical temperaments before i started to tune them and expirement with them on some pieces i am playing and it astounded me on several occasions. His explanations are clear and easy to understand and the history he provides is very pertinent and valuable. Product Description
Philip Wylie (1902-1971) was a prolific writer whose stories were, in the words of editor Bill Pronzini, 'controversial, provocative, iconoclastic' and unafraid to question cultural sensibilities and critique American mores. As a result, his detective fiction was among the most ingenious and innovative of his generation. Included in this collection are six of his best mysteries where, in order to discover the solution, you will be forced to see through the mayhem of a hurricane in the Florida Keys, find something unnatural in a death by heart attack, join an Olympic swimmer as he matches wits with a ruthless murderer, and find which weapon (out of ten thousand!) was used to bludgeon someone to death in the New York Museum of Natural History. Edited and with an introduction by Bill Pronzini. Ten Thousand Blunt Instruments is the 29th in Crippen & Landru s 'Lost Classics' series - - new collections by great writers of traditional mysteries. Cover painting and design by Tom Roberts; Lost Classics design by Deborah Miller. ... Read more

Product Description
Corroded pieces of metal, stamped lumps of copper, broken bits of glass with partial inscriptions, fragments of textiles, tiny beads these were the raw material found at al-Fustat, the site of the first Muslim settlement in Egypt in the seventh century and the heart of Cairo for many centuries following. From the 1950s Dr. Henri Amin Awad accepted from the poor in this area objects that had no obvious market value in return for medical services rendered. Over the years he built up an extraordinary and important collection of artifacts. Carefully cleaned, sorted, and then analyzed by specialists, this material illuminates many areas of the archaeological record neglected or missing from other studies. The ten studies in this volume covering beads, bone, coins, glass weights and vessel stamps, medical instruments, medical prescriptions, metal objects, and textiles demonstrate the wide range of archaeological material once found in al-Fustat, a site no longer accessible since most of it has been buried under urban development or lost to a rising water table. Contributors: Ibrahim Abd al-Rahman, Abd al-Rahman Abd al-Tawwab, Henri Amin Awad, Jere L. Bacharach, Michael L. Bates, Lidia Domaszewicz, Katharina Eldada, Peter Francis, Jr., Sami K. Hamarneh, Nancy Arthur Hoskins, Peter Mentzel, Norman D. Nicol, Elizabeth Rodenbeck, W. Luke Treadwell ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book is a very thorough and impressive review of what has been done in the field. I was not familiar with the subject and learnt a lot from this book.
From a practical point of view, I miss better drawings. There are no dimensions on figures and the author state clearly at the beginning of the book that small features are not to scale. From a pedagogic point of view it is fine, but it is then difficult to apply these concepts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great content, terrible binding
Binding broke away from spine after briefly flicking through the book. It appears with extended use the cover will tear away from the pages. Pictures/diagrams need refinement; some look as if they were printed on a bubblejet printer which was low on ink.

Overall coverage of mounting systems is fantastic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mounting Optics in Optical Instruments
I was very surprised when I opened this book. It covers the basic optical elements to the most sophisticated optical aplications imaginable. The book is full of drawings with an emphasis on kinematic optical element mounting, photographs, and equations with examples.

The CD-ROM included with this book contains two Microsoft Excel worksheets that allow convenient use of the many equations (metric amd Emglish units) used in the text.

This book is a monumental work and should be in the library of every person working in optics. ... Read more

Product Description
This report was created for strategic planners, international executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for pianos, automatic pianos, harpsichords, and other keyboard stringed instruments. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for pianos, automatic pianos, harpsichords, and other keyboard stringed instruments for those countries serving the world market via exports or supplying from various countries via imports. I do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners approaching the world market face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying pianos, automatic pianos, harpsichords, and other keyboard stringed instruments? What is the dollar value of these imports? How much do the imports of pianos, automatic pianos, harpsichords, and other keyboard stringed instruments vary from one country to another? Do exporters serving the world market have similar market shares across the importing countries? Which countries supply the most exports of pianos, automatic pianos, harpsichords, and other keyboard stringed instruments? Which countries are buying their exports? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? ... Read more

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on pianos and other string musical instruments in China face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying pianos and other string musical instruments to China? How important is China compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of pianos and other string musical instruments vary from one country of origin to another in China? On the supply side, China also exports pianos and other string musical instruments. Which countries receive the most exports from China? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for pianos and other string musical instruments in China. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where China fits into the world market for imported and exported pianos and other string musical instruments. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for China in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. ... Read more

This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for non-electronic cymbals, drums, timpani, vibraphones, and other percussion musical instruments across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for non-electronic cymbals, drums, timpani, vibraphones, and other percussion musical instruments. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the cities in Japan). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E., for non-electronic cymbals, drums, timpani, vibraphones, and other percussion musical instruments in Japan. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided and concentrated across the cities and regional markets of Japan. For each prefecture, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time. In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more
