5-0 out of 5 stars Clear, concise explanations with actionable recommendations
This is a thoroughly refreshing book that offers clear understanding of fundamaental analysis. As with another reviewer, I am primarily focused on the technical side however this book opened a new door for me.The best thing is that he expalins how to get information (provided free on websites) and do your own analysis. It's nice to see a comprehensive book that doesn't try to sell you something along the way (recommendations, data services, etc.)

5-0 out of 5 stars A choice and very recommended pick for those who look for financial success in stocks
How can one be completely confident in stock analysts who didn't see the current crisis coming? Now in an expanded and fully updated second edition, "Fire Your Stock Analyst! Analyzing Stocks On Your Own" is a guide for those who want to save money and have faith in themselves to make wise economic decisions. Harry Domash, a MSN Money investing columnist, comes to readers with wise advice on stock trading, stating that with a little research, anyone can play the stock market on their own, without an analyst leeching their dollars. "Fire Your Stock Analyst!" is a choice and very recommended pick for those who look for financial success in stocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars The title should have been: Fire Your Stock Broker
How many people do you know who have their own stock analyst? Probably not many, but how many have stock brokers? A lot. That's why this book should be titled Fire Your Stock Broker. This book is about analyzing stocks based on the author's experience and conversations with top money managers.

The author places a lot of emphasis on investors being able to do their own research. Too many people rely on Wall Street analysts. The author says:

"You won't fare well following analysts' buy/sell advice, but their recommendations and forecasts give you information about the market's enthusiasm for any stock and can help you qualify stocks as viable value or growth candidates."

This book is pretty long, and some may find it too difficult to read. It should not be read in one sitting. This is a reference book that can be used by investors while analyzing particular companies. I recommend it to investors who pick their own stocks.

- Mariusz Skonieczny, author of Why Are We So Clueless about the Stock Market? Learn how to invest your money, how to pick stocks, and how to make money in the stock market

Once I picked the book up I could not put it down. The book is well organized and fairly easy to follow. All the Websites are fairly up-to-date (meaning if he says yahoo is a good source for this information, it still is). I do recommend making a list of the criteria he goes through and listing the websites as you do it, that way you don't have to go back and reread the entire book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
Another excellent book from author Russell Wild. Well written and informative. I would also rate the book seller as giving me excellent service and would purchase again from this seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bond Investing For Dummies
I ordered 2 books on bond investing.Luckily, Bond Investing for Dummies arrived first. It was easy to read, and provided a great overview. It is an excellent foundation for understanding different bond types and bond strategies.I'm reading the second bond investing book now.It is written by a professor and reads like a text book.If I had not read Bond Investing for Dummies first, the second book would be difficult to comprehend. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Dummies?
You are no dummy by buying "Dummies" books!Always THE place to start any self-educating curriculum! Always full of additional references for further study.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bond Investing for dummies
As with all "Dummies", this is a womb to tomb explanation of the Basics of Bond Investing. I recommend it for everyone especially retirees or those who are about to retire.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I've Seen on Bond Investing
I've seen many books and articles on bond investing- this one is by far the best in many ways, among them, the most comprehensive- 333 pages packed with useful information- I didnt think anyone could write 333 pages about bonds, which before reading the book I thought would require less study than stock investing, but the author did, writing 333 useful pages on the subject, and in easy to understand, conversation-like language. When I research anything I do it in breadth and depth, asking many questions, and there was no question that the author left unanswered, and then some that I had'nt thought to ask.The book also covers other related investing subjects, such as other sources of fixed income, asset allocation etc etc. There is so much information packed into the book, that not only novice bond investors would profit from it, so would experienced bond investors.I have always aggressively invested in stocks only, but given the current state of the stock market, I'm looking for the safety and predictability of bonds- this book sure helped! This may be an unusually enthusiastic review, but the author deserves it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written book... not worth it at all !
I will start my review by pointing you to page-8 of this book, where you will find this sentence saying "For all intensive purposes". I was shocked, I thought illiterates and high school dropouts say that. And you have the audacity to become a book author ????

This is one of the most poorly written books that I have ever read. The author has horrible horrible writing skills. And I don't mind that at all, if the content of the book was good.

I am 100% sure the good reviews that you see here on Amazon.com are people he must have paid to put reviews. There is no other explanation to the good reviews.

The book just talks and talks about his experiences of making money with Stocks. The worst part is there is nothing you can learn from his experiences. He just goes on and on about how much money he made with xyz or abc stock with no valuable lessons or strategy to offer which you can benefit from.

Frankly speaking, this book should have been just a blog out there on the internet for people to read for free (I doubt it if anyone would have ever read it though).

I seriously, think the author made more money selling this book compared to actually investing in stocks. I am just sharing this experience, so that no one else gets cheated like me.

I am trying to sell this book on ebay or craigslist now, to get some of the money back that I wasted on it.

1-0 out of 5 stars What rymes with rap
Don't waste your money. This book is full of filler.
He talks about his childhood & teen years, right into adult hood.
No meat & patatoes here. WORTHLESS...I'll send you my copy for free, if you want it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Guide in Microcap Gambling
It's nothing changed since this authors first book. He is still gambler unfortunately, and this book is all about it.
You will find insights on how author:
- Averages down in microcaps (!);
- How author acts on tips form message board hypsters saying "I know it's gambling, but sometimes it's works, so why not try"?

Well. Sometimes betting in casino works also. In casio you at least can get free drinks.
It's nothing about investing in microcaps

if you are searching for serious book on this topic, choose this one: Small Stocks for Big Profits: Generate Spectacular Returns by Investing in Up-and-Coming Companies (Wiley Trading)

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute garbage
I would bet money that the author made far more off of this well presented book than he ever has off of trading.

This book is a stumbling, bumbling, super-beginners guide to investing in Microcaps, but most of the book the author is hyping up old holdings in washed up companies.

From the sounds of the book this guy is a hobbyist. And hobbies are expensive. He compares micro-cap trading to playing slot machines! Is this really something you want to emulate?

Don't get fooled by the cute cover, save your money and buy a better book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Knowledgeable Author
If you're going to trade penny stocks or are thinking about that sector of investments then this book should be your first. The buzzword for this type of speculation is "due diligence". Mr. Holtzclaw provides all the information you need to conduct a proper due diligence. I'm very happy with my purchase. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars There ain't any juice... too fuzzy concepts and language
I was excited when I ordered this book. It appeared on a Top 10 reading list from a guy I respect quite a bit. So it seemed to be a no-brainer...

... but let's face it:
- This book just discusses trend-following in the broader picture (not pure trend-following).
- There are NO clear and easy-to-grasp concepts (they are fuzzy to its fullest).
- The listed mistakes done by the authors are common knowledge at test (almost no learning-effect).
- The authors try to 'read' charts (cup-with-handle base formation) and well as price/volume.
- I am astonished how this book was rated that high (biased consumer group).
- Don't buy this book.

My recommendations (selection):

Well worth your time to read this 4-5 times. And review "How to Make Money in

This book 1 of about 200+ in the last 5 years, was a break-through and wake up
call at the same time.

Essence: What the BEST of the Best Stocks on the planet demonstrate again and again. How to learn to pay attention to those details so they can talk to you!

With the future in chaos, learn this or seek long-term cover, if you can find it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-read Material!
Firstly, I must say that in order to gain maximum use of this book one must already have a reasonable amount of investing knowledge, reading O'Neil's "How To Make Money in Stocks" or "The Successful Investor" would be more appropriate starting places for a novice. Once, though, you have attained understanding of O'Neil's fundamental strategies and principles for selecting investment-worthy stocks this book will be of incalculable value.
The chapter dealing with how/when to hold/sell your stocks is a treasure, as, if you follow O'Neil's CANSLIM method, finding well-performing stocks to buy will be rather easy.
Also, the chapter regarding how to optimize your mental state for better trading is wonderful and the information contained it in serves to improve your quality of life beyond trading stocks.
I cannot reccomend this book highly enough! Read O'Neil first, then this next!

5-0 out of 5 stars Long on Details - Excellent
Book has good details of what has helped make them successful and ways you can do it too.Very good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars CAN SLIM PLUS+
This is a great book for those of us wanting a peak inside the world of William O'Neil. I found the book also very useful for guidance on trading like Mr. O'Neil with plenty of nice charts with very useful examples of when to buy and sell stocks. The book does a great job helping the reader understand how William O'Neil thinks from his frugality and trading methods to his major influences being Jesse Livermore, Richard Wyckoff, and Nicolas Darvas.
This book contains the elements that are in the O'Neil books: buy expensive stocks not cheap ones. Do not average down in price add to your position only on the way up in price. Cut your losses quickly, your maximum loss should be 7%-8% with your average win being 20%. Let your winners run while they are acting right. Diversification is for those that do not know what they are doing. It is better to have a few of the best stocks and watch them closely. Let the winners run and cut the losers short. O'Neil believes in buying the best stock in one of the best industries with the best fundamentals and growth. However these stocks must be bought at the right time as they break out of established bases to new highs. However these stocks can only be bought in up trending markets. The basis of the O'Neil system is to do what really works in the market by studying the pasts biggest winning stocks and their chart patterns and fundamentals.
The authors of this book were O'Neil's right hand men for many years both managing internal portfolios for his company and giving seminars with Mr. O'Neil. Kacher and Morales had cumulative returns of 18,000% and 11,000% over a seven year period. These guys know how to trade and did a great job in this book explaining how they made such outrageous returns. I found the "Pocket Pivot" buy point especially informative as an ideal point to buy a hot stock based on its chart while it was in the "cup" of the famous O'Neil "cup and handle " formation. This is a huge new discovery that can increase winning percentages a great deal while using the CAN SLIM system by making the buy point sooner and safer.
The reader gets to read what the author's considered the ten commandments of Bill O'Neil. These were not issued from Mr. O'Neil but rules and principles gathered while working with the trading wizard day by day.
The book is absolutely packed with excellent information on how the authors achieved such outstanding results and tells of their trading journey. I could not begin to touch upon the vast amount of information contained in this book so I advise buying the book. At the end of the book the authors recommend the writings of Eckhart Tolle and Esther Hicks to really be able to handle the stress and have the right mind set for successful trading. This mention is much needed as I feel that trading psychology is neglected in the O'Neil books. He likely has no need to overcome the mental demons that plague other traders. The need to be right and the inability to handle losses when it is time to sell. Truly an excellent book on trading by real traders. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great starter book
Purchased this for our 18 yo son who is just getting into the stock market. It was recommended by his finance teacher who is a Harvard grad. They give it a glowing review....

4-0 out of 5 stars Invest in This Book...
This book is a great little introduction to the basics of investing in stocks. It gives a solid foundation for further reading in this area.I would not, however, rely solely up on this book alone when beginning to invest. It provides an excellent overview but does not go in-depth.I recommend reading this book first then moving on to Jason Kelly's "The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing."These two together will be all you need to get in the game!

Pros:
- Quick and concise summary of stocks, the market and how to trade
- Well-written and clear
- Professional, sound advice

Cons:
- Many typos (obviously not well-proofread)
- A little too short on the details
- Pricey for the size and content!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter book
This book is extremely helpful for those who want to get into the stock business. It lays out stock trading clearly and also gives pointers to other avenues of information.

5-0 out of 5 stars such straight-forward honesty is rare

Product Description
In an efficient market, all stocks should be valued at a price that is consistent with available information. But as financial expert Vijay Singal, Ph.D., CFA, points out, there are circumstances under which certain stocks sell at a price higher or lower than the right price. In Beyond the Random Walk, Singal discusses ten such anomalous prices and shows how investors might--or might not--be able to exploit these situations for profit.

The author distills several decades of academic research into a focused discussion of market anomalies that is both accessible and useful to people with varied backgrounds. Past empirical evidence is supplemented with author's own research using more recent data. Anomalies covered include the "December Effect," "Momentum in Industry Stocks," "S&P 500 Index Changes," "Trading by Insiders," and "Merger Arbitrage." In each chapter, the author describes the particular anomaly, explains how it occurs, shows ways to take advantage of the anomaly, and highlights the risks involved. We learn, for example, that shares of stocks that have appreciated in recent months become scarce in late December, because investors wait until January before they sell (to postpone payment of taxes on profits). This scarcity drives the price up--the "December Effect"--and smart buyers can make the equivalent of 75% annual return on a five-day investment. Each chapter includes suggestions for further reading as well as tables and graphs that support the discussion. The book concludes with a preview of many other interesting anomalies and a section on how investor behavior might influence prices.

Clearly written and informative, this well-researched volume is a must read for investors, traders, market specialists, and students of financial markets. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great introduction to trading strategies
I don't think anybody is going to get rich implementing the ideas in this book. I do think people can do very well with ideas that this book will give you. There is no free lunch in finance, but knowing the basic principles and themes you can do reasonably well. For example, I've found ways to make money on his chapter 4, "short term price drift," though my toolbox would make the strat unrecognizable to someone who had only read his book. The chapter on merger arb is pretty good; add some models for the spread (or Boesky like "models") and you could do well on Risk Arb. Other stuff; momentum trades can work better than doing nothing. Add in some vol signals and the ability to hold cash, and I bet this works pretty well. If I ever get a 401k again, that's about all I can think of doing with it, so I probably will.Bias forward on FOREX -something I've been meaning to look at for a while now. I can think of reasons why it would be true anyhow. Definitely believe the NAV arb thing, though I bet it's pretty small and probably disappearing fast.

I don't remember if he characterized the risk involved (I didn't write anything about Sharpe in my notes anyhow); I suspect there is substantial risk in all of his strats. Certainly there is substantial risk in things like merger arb. Lots of what he describes does end up having a lot of human input also; for example, in the S&P index add strat, you had to do a human sort of which adds were meaningful. It's a pretty simple thing to do in principle, but it isn't what guys like me really want: which is a strat which is close to taking human subjectivity out of the loop. Certainly, this makes backtesting more meaningful; it is easy to be right when you already know the answer. There is also the issue (which I found out in the S&P strat) of the price of gathering data. One of the reasons such simple strats exist is the cost of gathering the information you need to implement them is fairly high compared to the payout. Would I be better off screen scraping all the live long day to implement some lousy subjective strat with a low Sharpe anyway? Or would I be better off getting a job at a Bank, making a lot of money, and buying bonds? Sounds flippant, but this is the source of lots of "arb" opportunities -including many of the ones in this book. Such strats may simply not be worth the arb's time.

Still, as a book which describes some basic, profitable trading strategies, Singal's book is a winner. You can use the basic ideas expounded here to have better ideas. For a new trader, there aren't many books like this you can get anything useful out of; Ernie Chan's book is the only one I can think of offhand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy Hold Outperform
BuyThis book has unique advantages over its peers. It states things believed to be true. The anomalies that is describes are supported with careful research.

Hold You will want to keep this book on your reference shelf. It can be read several times, and has many gems in it.There are very few books that cover this material.

Outperform The book can be used to demonstrate correct ways to pursue the markets. If markets are not completely random, then use this book as your starting point.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting book well written, temptation ot invest again
This is an "easy to read"well written book. It does not immediately bore the reader to deathlike many other investment and economics books. The logic behind weekly and annual stock trends is logically explained with examples. However very few novice investors can profit playing the stock market with these techniques. All it takes is some unexpected event like the "real estate melt down" to squander your fortunes. I recommend the book, but I don't recommend the stock market for the weak at heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars academic AND accessible
I'm impressed with what a good job Vijay Singal has done. Beyond the Random Walk is very clear and thorough, turning what is normally overly academic research/text into easy to follow prose and investor-friendly instructions. I'm reading a library copy now, but want to have my own copy--a rarity for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent invesment
Vijay has written a very lucid account of different pricing anomalies and how to take advantage of them. His section on momentum-trading strategies was particulary interesting to me. Sector-fund momentum trading strategies have been shown to beat the market averages ( Hulbert's Financial Digest has reviewed sector fund newletters and thinks there's statistical evidence of superiority in their total returns versus an unmanaged index). It's well worth considering as an investor if you're willing to invest a little time. I've based a website on this approach, topsectors.com, so I'm quite convinced it's a strategy that hasn't been fully exploited today and so pricing anomalies exist that the average investor can use to their advantage. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars So you want to invest in Common Stocks.
If you want to try your luck in investing in Common Stock, this book will provide the knowledge you need.It will help you avoid the pitfalls commonly made, even those made by so called experts.Selecting a profitable stock is tricky at best. This book will guide you through the many obstacles to ensure you make a sound choice. It will also explain the role of the broker, how stock is evaluated and the risks associated with ownership. This book is worth the read and will give you the understanding you need to procede with your investments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Objective and complete.
What is a stock? What is a stock market? What do brokers do and how do they do it? Market makers, specialists, pit bosses - wass'up wid dat? Mr. Scott explains it all without the usual BS of Wade Cook-ish advancedstrategies for people who don't have a fundamental understanding of themarket. Mr. Scott tells you how the market operates - not how to play it.It's like the owners manual for a car. He tells you what makes the car workbut leaves it up to you as to how fast you want to drive.I bought thisbook a year or so before I started investing over three years ago. It was afavorite of mine along with Mr. Scott's other books on personal finance, mutual funds, and the stock market in general. I am an aggressive growthinvestor spending over 20 hours a week on the market. A value investor whobuys and forgets about a stock for 20 years will get the same benefit as Idid from this book. Knowing how the market and investment vehicles worktakes a lot of the old "Did I do the right thing with my money"worries away. This book is a very big step in the direction anyinvestor needs to go before turning over so much as one penny to a world offantastic dreams and incredible pitfalls. The market is way more fun forthose of us who understand it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book! Easy to read.
I really didn't know much of anything about the stock market. Chris put it all in perspective for me and took out the scare factor. I now feel very confident when I pick stocks and know that my money is protected because of the tactics that I learned from this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars very interesting book
I agree with the other reviewers that this book is an outstanding essay for those who want to learn how to select stocks for a value portfolio. Where we differ is that for the typical investor he does not have the resources to build a properly diversified portfolio- either financial or mental resources. Value stocks do provide returns in excess of broad market returns but in order to have adequate diversification you must assemble several hundred issues well beyond the resources of the average investor. Further one must have the time and skill to evaluate several thousand issues.

I can offer a solution to this problem. I want to recommend for you a book titled How to Make Money in the Stock Market-Buy 2,500 different stocks for $1000 - Pay no Commission This book is a must for those wanting to find out about indexing (passive investing) and why it is the superior method for the small investor (and big one too). This book is an outstanding guide to personal investing. It will be useful to all investors from novices to highly the highly experienced. This book prepares the reader to approach investing from the standpoint of the underlying science. It is the antithesis of a 'get rich quick scheme'.

All aspects of Modern Portfolio Theory and passive (index) investing are explained in a through and easily understood manner. The aspect I like most is that as well as a solid theoretical foundation the book is very practical and shows the reader how to create (and more importantly) and manage over time a successful portfolio. This is a great book- for the beginning investor, it's a great place to start and for the experienced investor there are many valuable suggestions.

It's a shame to think of how much money investors have lost "investing" in the stock market over the years. I wish I had read this little book years ago. The chapter on automatic investing recommends a number of portfolios that follow modern portfolio theory and adjust risk as you age without any effort on the part of the reader at all. Had this book been written years ago and had I followed its directions I would be rich today of that I am certain. Nevertheless I will pursue one of the portfolios recommended and stick to my chosen asset plan.
PiscaquaResearch in a study covering the period 1987-96 found that only 10 out of 145 major pension funds, or just seven percent, out performed a portfolio consisting of a simple 605/405 mix of the S&P 500 index and the Lehman Bond index respectively.

Os it logical I ask for you to believe that you can predict which actively managed funds will out perform, or are you overconfident of your skills? If you are trying to find the great fund managers who will out perform in the future ask yourself: what am I going to do differently in terms of identifying the future winning fund managers, than did the pension plans and their advisors? And if you are not going to something different what logic is there in playing a game at which others with superior resources have consistently failed?
If you a really serious in finding an investment technique that will provide you with reasonable return with less risk I suggest the following little book.I wrote this book

1-0 out of 5 stars please dont be fooled by these "reviews"
look, if you want to know the value of this book, look at the performance of the so called strategy (double the dow).it boils down to this: uh, buy this one mutual fund i know about (UDPIX).which in theory would double the average return of the dow, and it does, for 3 year period selectively assigned by the author.unfortunately for him, if actually owns it, and you if you buy it, it underperformed the dow and the s&p for total 4 year period since its inception by nearly 15%.the book is crap.

Product Description

A timely follow-up to the bestselling classic Dividends Don't Lie

In 1988 Geraldine Weiss wrote the classic Dividends Don't Lie, which focused on the Dividend-Yield Theory as a method of producing consistent gains in the stock market. Today, the approach of using the dividend yield to identify values in blue chip stocks still outperforms most investment methods on a risk-adjusted basis.

Written by Kelley Wright, Managing Editor of Investment Quality Trends, with a new Foreword by Geraldine Weiss, this book teaches a value-based strategy to investing, one that uses a stock's dividend yield as the primary measure of value. Rather than emphasize the price cycles of a stock, the company's products, market strategy or other factors, this guide stresses dividend-yield patterns.

  • Details a straightforward system of investing in stick-to-quality blue-chip stocks with reliable dividend histories
  • Discusses how to buy and sell when dividend yields instruct you to do so
  • Investors looking for safety and transparency will quickly discover how dividends offer the yields they desire

With Dividends Still Don't Lie, you'll gain the confidence to make sophisticated stock market decisions and obtain solid value for your investment dollars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Made 20,000 Dollars In One Speculation
I made 20,000 dollars.I have been involved in the market for a little four years, but really involved, as in a professional attempt for the last year.I had no idea what options were for the first six months of trading.I traded solely in the stock market and settled with using heavy amounts of margin, and occasionally making some big gains here and there (up a hundred thousand dollars), but my risk was usually bigger.I'd need fifty thousand dollars, twenty five thousand in margin, to make ten thousand dollars, two of which gets taken from me to pay the interest.I didn't like margin, I hate debt, and I hated borrowing money (It's why I've gone to the cheapest colleges I can find)... I've only had one Line of credit for a cafe I opened that was all, everything else was investors investors investors.Anyways.I decided after seeing so many books at Barnes and Nobles on Options that I should see what they are all about.Eventually, I decided I wanted to know what they were.So I bought a couple of books, since the internet told me I needed to have an advance degree in Calculus, and an understanding of greek, and all this other stuff.Well, Getting Started in Options was my first book.It laid it all out nice and simple, and was a very informative book on the options market, I read it in a day, then reread it a few days later to make sure I understood it.Then I started reading all these other books, but they seemed to be rather uninformative and they focused on how to make a living writing options, something I wasn't really all that interested in.

Then I found this book.Trading Stock Options: Basic Option Trading Strategies, and How I've used them to profit in any market. This book seemed really informative. It wasn't McMillian's (which I've read), or The Bible of Options Strategy, but it was definitely the best book I think someone just starting out would like to have.

If you don't have an understanding of the stock market, or what moves stocks, or how to find a stock about to break out, or is trending upwards, then this book is not for you. This book, in my opinion, is for the stock trader who wants to branch out into options. It's my opinion.Anyways, how I made twenty thousand dollars in one week.It was June 21st, the Front Month of a new options contract.Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) had just bounced from the 320's to the 359 or so.But it was closing down for the day. Idecided that if it was down tomorrow I would buy some Puts at 330, I did just that about at 2.76 a contract, or 276 dollars, about 280 with commission.I bought 10 of them for a total of 2,800 dollars.Just as I thought, the stock crumbled. On the seventh day, I sold the contract for 20+ dollars, making 20,000 dollars in total on one trade.

P.S. It wasn't my first trade, I've had several success and failures in the option market for months. This was a notable one for me because it's recent.

Books I'd reccomend for stock moves that will help with option trading.
All of Nicolas Darvas's Books (His books will get you into the mood of understanding that you can be successful at the stock market).
Trend Trading for A Living by Thomas K. Carr (This book is by far one of the best)
Trend Following by Michael Covel (especially if you're considering futures as well)
How To Trade Stocks by Jesse Livermore (it was said that Jesse Livermore looked for stocks that would give him ten points in a week to a month, I've used his strategy several times to make a good deal of money on up and down markets)
Stan Weinstien's Secret's for Profiting in a Bull and Bear Market by Stan Weinstein (His technical analysis is priceless
How To Make Money In Stocks by William O'Neil (he's all about the break out buy).

Options are not for everyone and just like stocks they are not for the get rich quick schemer or anything of the short. They require, just like stocks, the patience, discipline, and planning that you would give any endeavor that would cost you money.
Good Luck, Good Trade!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good read, very informative
Mr. Burns take you through the step by step. I enjoyed it and walked away with a far better understanding and concept on how to trade options.

5-0 out of 5 stars The trade examples really help.
I really enjoy going through the math to help me understand the procedure. I am only through 1/3 of the book and I think I have come across one error. Page 41 line 7 should be: $160.00 or 21.3%.
The other authors just cannot understand that a picture is worth a thousand words!

5-0 out of 5 stars Trading Stock Options: Basic Option Trading Strategies And How I've Used Them To Profit In Any Market
I have found this book very helpful. Some aspects of options trading were confusing, but this book did a good job of teaching the nuts and bolts and the thought processes involved in making successful trades. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A how-to book for new investors
I never read investment books and have never bought or sold a stock. However, this book provides a strong case for why investors should include small-cap stocks in their portfolio.Wyatt uses interesting quotes and a clear style to inform readers about the fundamentals involved in investing. The book was more interesting and better written at the beginning but still provides a novice with enough information to establish a strong base for someone to get more involved.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Small Cap Investor
It's interesting to note that as of this writing there are 8 reviewers, all with glowing recommendations but all of them have a similar ring to them. They are extremely positive and yes, they are all extremely general and sound like commercial hypes.

Oh, and I'm sure it must be a coincidence that each and every one of the reviewers, at least at this date and time, have only reviewed one book, and, of course, that book is "The Small Cap Investor,"Compare these reviewers to the reviewers of another highly rated trading book such as "Trading For A Living" by Elders.Notice how those reviewers talk about the specifics of the book and have also reviewed other trading books.Just a word to the wise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent read into small caps
I enjoyed reading this book particularly because I could read it on the commuter rail to and from work but it is a great book overall focusing on an area that most investors don't realize, the potential rewards of small cap investing.Ian goes into great detail explaining in simple terms how to read company financials.I would recommend this book to any longterm investor or day trader.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Sensible Advice
I am still reading the book, but I like it, and I particularly like the fact that it seems grounded in reality, with no get rich quick promises.I am a relative beginner in the stock market, but this book has given me confidence to make what have already turned out to be several profitable trades.I would say this is not a book for someone looking for easy money with no effort, but rather a very sensible guide for someone willing to study out how to make money in the stock market. It is easy to understand and just good, sensible guidance for a disciplined approach to investing.I am particularly interested in small caps, so the title got my attention, but I think much of the guidance would apply whether trading in small caps or other categories of securities, so I think it is a valuable read for anyone trading in the stock market.

5-0 out of 5 stars ...a must-read for serious profits!

Ever wished you could have owned Microsoft or Wal-Mart when they were still unknown Small-Cap stocks with under $2 billion dollars to their name? Now you can stop dreaming and start Winning Big withIan Wyatt's down-to-earth new bookThe Small-Cap Investor. In 8 straight forward steps, The Small- Cap Investor walks you through to separate the junk stocks from the Small-Cap treasures. Whether you're brand new to stock picking or have years of trading experience under your belt, rarely will you find such a wealth of easy-to-understand information from such a highly regarded Small-Cap expert as Ian Wyatt....all under one cover! There's nothing like Small-Caps to juice up any portfolio.I rate this book a Winner! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great read
The author made learning of the dark corners of profit fun and easy. Can't wait to give some of the suggestions a try.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Primer for Special Situation Investing
Don't let the dorky name fool you, this book is an very good introduction to Special Situation Investing. I could not put this book down. Greenblatt has a very entertaining voice that adds to the already interesting subject material. The book is written with the idea that anyone could pick it up and maybe learn something about value investing, but it also contains reams of information that would be useful to most any experienced investor with a value perspective. Greenblatt certainly gives you perspective as to where value is frequently found, and how an investor can take advantage of inefficiencies in the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can Be a Stock Market Genius
I thought this was a really great book! I found it a very interesting read. I highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an old book, but a good book.
Some of the other reviewers are right in saying this is an old and slightly out of date book. But it is such a good book, and it is very readable. I would love for the author to write a second edition. I dislike books that don't have a lot of references, and while this author has a few, the references I was hoping to get were ones that lead to further reading to understand how he arrives at his conclusion. Continually throughout the book he tells you that he is not covering the complex stuff for simplicity, and that is fine, but I would like to go over some of those fine details or at least reading material that teaches me how to go over those fine details,

Every section would require vastly more knowledge than was given in order to apply in real life. A second edition is really needed. But in the end I was very happy to have read this book. A word to the average investor out there though, this book is meant only for full time investors...........people who spend less than an hour or two every week on their investments should not even bother with this book. This book was not meant for the career orientated, don't have time for much type of person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
Truly enjoyed this book. One of the best pieces i have read on this. Ignore the horrible cover and silly book title. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Graphs don't align
this pamphlet is very interesting, but the graphs, which are central to understanding the lesson, are totally unreadable on the Kindle. They don't fit on one screen and have arrows pointing to nothing on the next page. Since most of the points are to observe and learn by looking at the graphs provided, it makes the book kind of useless. too bad- it was a great read- rendered mostly useless by the Kindle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best dollar I have ever spent... PERIOD!!!
I must admit, I rarely take the time to review or express opinion on the books I read. However, after reading a scathing attack of this book, I had to comment.

I first read the book in late January of 2010, and can only say that I wish I had read it on its release in May of 09. That time lapse alone would have saved me thousands in losses in my respective accounts. Like the typical people I know, we put our money up and let the "so called" experts advise the best course of action to take. What I found in the book was exactly the truth; my experts worried for their own money, long before I got any phone calls or good advice as to what to do with my own.

Upon finishing my first of many readings, I moved all of my accounts to my own control and found the least expensive means of managing those accounts. (Thank you, ETrade!!!)Within two months of using the easy principles of the book, I had recovered fifty percent of my losses for the two previous years. Some people may be able to follow all the "typical" charts and terms like "head & shoulder" graphs and so forth you read in most books, but they give me a migraine or put me to sleep. I found Mr. Hall's analogies quite easy to understand.

The simple manner in which markets, funds, supply and demand, and charting (tanks) are explained in this book made it simple to apply predictions that actually work when the markets are rolling up and down like waves in a, well, a darn fish tank. Additionally, I never fully understood currencies, bank notes, and share formation as it relates to my hard earned cash and investing until now. This so called "pamphlet" (over fifty pages) taught me more in two hours than working twenty years for fortune 500 companies and listening to my so called expert advisors. I was literally an investment-lamb being led to the corporate slaughter of my hard earned savings day after day until I read this book. As for the length of this book, it taught me exactly what I needed to know and was a quick read.

In addition to reading the book many times, I read the authors blog and frequent updates which helped me not only regain my losses but I have doubled my net worth in less than six months. And for the record, the YouTube updates are hilarious, and proved to be right on the money as far as market conditions and movement across a range of market segments were concerned. I could never have understood how money moves in waves to different capital market sectors without this book.

As far as the salt, goats and history of money and exchanges are concerned: The humor and way Hall explains how all this works and fits together historically was wonderful, witty and a hoot to read. Add to that, another positive comment, (review) made about car buying, which works quite well btw, and my one dollar investment (cost of the book) gives me one of the greatest returns I have realized after reading any financial book.

As far as errors and misalignment go; I read the book first on a Kindle, borrowed from a friend who actually recommended it. Then I downloaded it with the PC version off Amazon which better aligns and reread and studied it more closely. The author readily admits the book is self-published and was never professionally edited. However, I knew little of investing, yet easily read through any minor errors and graph alignment issues. I also noticed that this book was #1 repeatedly on the Amazon best seller ranking. I SURE know why!!! I also hope that I can find this in print one day so that I may keep it handy on my desk. Why write this review now?I kinda feel that I owe Mr. Hall a fee for the money I have made applying his principles.

PS; if you like sexy thrillers, read Halls "The Lollipop",THE LOLLIPOP STRIPCLUB "CANDY FOR THE SEX ADDICT" (THE LOLLIPOP 600 pages (BOOK ONE & TWO)) not for the faint of heart and again unedited, but WOW, the graphic realism provided not only a great read but was very erotic... In my lifetime, there are a handful of books that I have read over and over. In addition to the Double Down Bounce books, "The Lollipop" is another. ANN

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money.
This pamphlet should have been titled how to buy a car because the author explains a lot about buying cars, and a little about the stock market. I read this pamphlet using the Kindle app for the iPad. The illustrations don't align with the text making it very hard to follow along with the examples. There are many typos and misspellings. There might be some useful data in this pamphlet, but with all the talk of salt and goats and Babylon, I just couldn't finish it. All traders refer to charts, this author calls them tanks, as in an aquarium. What?!?

Excellent information on how to purchase a car from a car dealership.
