Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Oil reserves in Iraq will be the largest in the world according to recent geological surveys and seismic data. The Iraqi government has stated that new exploration showed Iraq has the world's largest proven oil reserves, with more than 500 billion barrels. Officially confirmed reserves rank third largest in the world at approximately 115 billion barrels (18.3×10^9 m3). As a result of military occupation and civil unrest, the official statistics have not been revised since 2001 and are largely based on 2-D seismic data from three decades ago. International geologists and consultants have estimated that unexplored territory may contain vastly larger reserves. ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Mandaeism or Mandaeanism is a monotheistic religion with a strongly dualistic worldview. Its adherents, the Mandaeans, revere Adam, Abel, Seth, Enosh, Noah, Shem, Aram and especially John the Baptist. Mandaeism has historically been practiced primarily around the lower Euphrates and Tigris and the rivers that surround the Shatt-al-Arab waterway, part of southern Iraq and Khuzestan Province in Iran. There are thought to be between 60,000 and 70,000 Mandaeans worldwide, and until the 2003 Iraq war, almost all of them lived in Iraq. Most Iraqi Mandaeans have since fled the country under the threat of violence by other Iraqis and the turmoil of the war.By 2007, the population of Iraqi Mandaeans had fallen to approximately 5,000. Most Iraqi Mandaeans now live in Syria and Jordan, with smaller populations in Sweden, Australia, the United States, and other Western countries. The Mandaeans have remained separate and intensely private?what has been reported of them and their religion has come primarily from outsiders, particularly from the Orientalists J. Heinrich Petermann, Nicholas Siouffi, and Lady Drower. ... Read more

Product Description
"I don't care to be in London much.I like Baghdad, and I like Iraq. It's the real East, and it is stirring; things are happening here, and the romance of it all touches and absorbs me." So wrote Gertrude Bell, as she reflected on the path she had chosen in life.Adventurer, archaeologist, and Arabist, Bell cut a unique figure in the turbulent politics of the Middle East during the First World War and its aftermath. This book will appeal to all those keen to gain a real understanding of the history behind the headlines in Iraq, and an insight into the life and times of one of the twentieth century's most extraordinary women. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Queen of the Desert
I first learned about Bell while studying archaeology and knew only of her involvement with the founding of the Iraq museum . However, I was unaware of the extent of her involvement in the politics of the region. This book is a timely and recommended read for anyone interested in the current situation in Iraq and the Middle East. It provides an well-written and fascinating look at the personalities and forces that shaped the region-Bell being one-and provides insight into the background of the conflicts there. It also is a brilliant portrait of Bell herself and the world of a daughter of privelege in the last days of the British Empire. ... Read more
