Not even close to the standard we come to expect from VR
Vault Reports strength is the targeted and highly specified nature of their reports.Industry and even company specific information is what makes them what they are.This book is just the opposite: vague, broad,full of obvious advice and therefore useless.

Best book to guide you from pre-interview to hired!
Power Interviewing by Barry Cohen is the most down-to-earth guide to making the most of your job hunt I have ever read. This book will guide you through the process of getting the interview, making the best impression at the interview, proper follow up procedures to make you stand out from the other candidates and finally negotiating the best deal. It also goes over how to handle a rejection gracefully and potential ways of reversal, how you can make a position that you have decided that you do not want worth your while (rather then giving it up,) proper attire and etiquette for an interview (not just 'wear business attire' but the implications of various dress and when each would be appropriate.) There is also a large focus on interviewing the company and appropriate questions to ask the interviewer; a very common disqualifying aspect of job interviews is not asking enough/any questions/not showing interest in the company. There is also a section on best ways to answer the most common questions (what is your weakest point, tell me about yourself, why did you leave your last position, etc.)

Unlike similar books which claim everything from using bright colored resume paper to leaving notes on the CEO's car, there are no silly tactics in this book. This book is full of methods to accentuate your true benefits to the organization and techniques of professionalism to guarantee that you will get the job over similarly qualified candidates. It will also guide you through common responses to proactively counter and use to your benefit disqualifying issues. Cover Letter Book
I really haven't looked at the book yet, but it seems to be in good condition and I received it in a reasonable amount of time. I'm sure when I get a chance to read it, it will help me write a good letter, hopefully it will help me get some interviews.

dated but still a great resource
This is a great book with lots of sample cover letters. Although the book was published in 1998 and things have changed a bit since then( we use a lot more e-mail and lot less paper ), the material is still relavant and covers most professions.

Helpful and Easy to Use.
This book makes it very easy to write cover tailored to each company and your specific circumstance. It is my most used job search reference.You will get interviews. My only criticism is I wish the thank you letter section was bigger and had more samples. Otherwise this book is a great help.

for professionals with experiance
I saw other people complaining about the content.I personally thought the book ROCKED, except I do agree that it is not for those who are going from college with little or no exp. to a full time position.

This book had great examples of networking letters, advice seeking letters, resume letters, and of course excellent advice on cover letters.

It gave clear step by step instructions with examples on how to match your cover letter to the job offer.Sounds simple, but a lot of other books miss it.

Great
I found the book to be clear, concise, and well written.It addresses key points to cover letter writing, and illustrates them with examples.

It is an excellent guide for those who have an employment history.However, it does not address the needs of recent college graduates who are looking for their first job.I am assuming that this need would be covered by another publication.This omission does not detract from its usefullness to the intended audience.

POOR EXAMPLE
I did not like this book as it did not give me too many good examples of cover letters I also found it geared towards the industrial professions, I found it too tedious. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is just coming out of school.

This is the best book of its kind! The author shows the reader how to create an original cover letter with impact. He gives examples of elements of both good and bad cover letters. Much Better Out There
I got this book mainly because the second edition was published in 2004 so I thought it would have the most up-to-date information on cover letter writing.Out of this whole book, only essentially the first 15 pages address how to write a cover letter--and this they do poorly.The main advice they give repeatedly is to include in your cover letter those skills and experience that match what your potential employer is looking for.Good advice, but they don't really tell you how to do this without making your cover letter merely a smaller version of your resume.I was really dissappointed with this book and would recommend other sources, even if they are perhaps a bit older. ... It WORKED,4 job offers and a $4000 negotiated increase
I have been looking for a job for more than 2 months. I thought I was good at interviewing but the course taught me that I need to promote myself not just answer questions.I like the way Eddie says it like it is and did not beat around the bush like some other job readiness materials I came across. Not so hot
it basically is a series of bad resumes and good resumes. No real direct help in terms of resume writing. Just read the whole thing and infer lessons from each example. I was more hoping to see some more direct information or advice. How to approach each section of a resume etc.

An excellent resource with all the tools you will need to get started on your job search. It is a must read primer those without a resume, first-time job seekers, or those who have been out of the market for a while.

The information provided was general, however the samples will provide a first time resume writer with the basic outline to follow.The information in some samples, such as a housewife entering back into the work force, were a bit too hyped up to take seriously.

Not satisfied w/ the purchase
Let me tell you something I really thought that the book was much better help
to write an awsome resume being that I am looking for a job,
but is not, is just a regular book w/ few samples of resumes and that's it.
It doesn't tell or show you how to write a really impressive resume.
I am dissapointed w/ this purchase, my money was not well spend.
If I could return it I will.
