5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific!
I bought How to Say It: Job Interviews to prepare for an upcoming interview. This book has so many example interview questions and responses that I was thoroughly prepared. What I liked best about the book was the chapter on following up. I followed the author's advice and I'm sure I received the job offer because of the letter I wrote...the interviewer thanked me for following up. I used one of the example letters provided in the book as a starting point. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars great resource
I bought this book to prepare for a stressful interview and it definitely helped me feel more prepared. There are so many sample questions and answers for things the interviewer might discuss, it made me feel ready for anything.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Interview Guide
I found this interview book to be very comprehensive. Step-by-step the author provided details on all stages of the interview. Most importantly, she included sample responses to common interview questions. The chapter I enjoyed the most was the one on following up after the interview. The author provided strong follow up example letters and I learned how to write effective ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great interview advice.
When interviewing, I often get tongue-tied. Not knowing what to say to sell myself, I provide incomplete answers. This book provided me with sample responses and a list of choice words I can pick from to get my point across.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok - some good advice
Instant Interviews explains who gets hired and why and most importantly - how to be that guy! The author goes into detail on what to wear, what to say, what questions will be asked and how to answer them. They are all so simple that they may seem unnecessary, but the author claims that they really work. I would say a very easy to read with some good advice but 110 five stars look phony for sure.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beyond the Appealing Title
One word to describe this item is: FLUFF. I thought the author is presenting us with 101 ways to land an interview, and yet, what it is about is centered around one and only one way to land an interview: Go to the business district, visit businesses and hand them business cards. Basically, cold visiting and calling. Thats it. Very deceptive title and totally not worth the read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Instant Interviews.
If the hiring process and candidates truly are this appaling in the USA then I am astonished. My suspicion is that its aimed at those looking for entry level unskilled positions. A useless book for anyone in Europe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for interviewing success!
Mr. Allen has done a super job of laying the fact of interviewing on paper.I've used some of the techniques listed in the book prior to reading it, but after reading it and adopting a few more techinques I've been successful in landing "the perfect job".... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good material - Hate the layout

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read!
I, too, read this book in one sitting.

I really got a lot out of this book, so much useful advice! Yes, some of it was "common sense", but sometimes we need to be reminded of it. Overall, this is a must read for all law students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Detailed, Insider Advice to Get the Job
Law job interviews ARE different from any other type of employment interview.I have been in the non-law work world for some time and have done plenty of successful interviews.Still, this book helped me tailor my style to match legal job interviewers expectations. The book has excellent and specific advice that your career services office may be too shy to tell you.The advice is practical; based on feedback from lawyers who regularly interview prospects from top law schools nationwide.

As a law student, I found two chapters most helpful: 1) How to Research your Interviewer. One of the hardest questions to nail in a law job interview is, "What do you want to know about our firm?"To answer well, you have to have done your homework. The book gives you great advice on how to research the firm so you can ask intelligent questions and get meaningful answers.2)On-campus Interviews.Understanding the OCI process--and what the interviewers have to endure--is critical to creating your interviewing strategy. The book gives give a look a the OCI process from the interviewers perspective, and gives you tactics you can use to make an impression on a tired, possibly disinterested interviewer.

It is a quick read and well organized so you can easily find the specific info relevant to your situation.I highly recommend it to anyone with a law job interview in their future--regardless of experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book
This is an incredible book and a must-read for all law students going through interviews.I used it for my clerkship interviews. The authors have a wide variety of experiences and know exactly what they are talking about. To succeed in your interviews, you must have this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I had this book sooner- it would have saved my interview!!!!
I read this book in one sitting. It was very enjoyable and had great important advice for any law student or lawyer. The advice in this book made sense and is invaluable!Unfortunately for me, I read this book after my interview and I know had I read this book first, I would have been more prepared to handle the pressure and I would have taken steps to prevent any foolish mishaps from occurring at the interview. This book is great and I will recommend it to any lawyers I know who are facing a job interview or even looking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great guide to interviewing in the legal field!
The book is a well-researched, detailed, and engaging interviewing resource for J.D. and LL.M. candidates, attorneys, as well as foreign lawyers planning to practice in the U.S. The authors address the intricacies and pitfalls of not only firm interviews, but also in-house, clerkship, government, and lateral interviews. As a result, the book is an invaluable comprehensive interviewing guide for law students and attorneys pursuing various career paths within the legal profession. ... Read more

Great book, i especially love the script. I follow the script and techniques, I landed the job with this technique. I didn't have to read the whole book. WARNING, they might view you as aggressive if you follow the script, but it is all about taking control of the interview, and the script just nail it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book launched me from average to outstanding interviewee
I can't compare this book to others as it was the only one I purchased. The result was that I was able to convince a very savvy multi-national that I as THE soluton for them.It worked and not I locked the best job I could ever dreamed of having. Why was the book so effective?First, it defines an attitude you must embrace as part of the process.Don't wait for them to pull the greatness out of you, go in with a strategy to tell them that you are the solution and this is why they should agree.Sound like a strange way to approach but get over it!This sets you apart and gets you the next interview...and ultimately the offer.Practice answering questions.have a list of stories written down that you read over and over so that you are a practiced, skilled storyteller.Have the confidence in the end to ask how you did and if they would support you at decision-time.I am sure there are other good buooks, but I can definitely say that i would skim this book to get ready for every interview i had.It changed my interview style from one I thought was ok but later realized it was quite lame. Now I feel confident giong into any interview that I can OWN it!Get the book...

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for College Grads!
Wow, what a phenomenal resource!I'm a recent college grad and I had no clue of what to do for job interviews. This book covers absolutely every possible situation that could arise during the job search.

I read this resource, applied for job postings, and received a call for a phone screening for an open position.Because of the information in Job Interviews for Dummies, I did great on the phone screening and was called in for a second interview.Once again because of the points covered in this resource, I was able to properly prepare myself and walked into the interview 100% confident.I absolutely aced it!At one point even the interviewers were open-mouthed amazed at some of the questions I asked THEM!

It must have been a landslide victory over the other interviewees, for they immediately told me they were very interested in me, kept me in the loop through the whole interviewing cycle, and immediately called me as soon as they could to make an offer! It was the first official "interview" I ever had, and with a simple $17 investment I'm now making more than TWICE the amount of money as my entry-level job I was at before!Every College Graduate must have this resource!

    Thank you Joyce Lain Kennedy!

5-0 out of 5 stars EFFECTIVE BOOK AND INSIGHTFUL RESUME CONSULTATION
After reviewing 301 Smart Answers to Tough Interview Questions, my husband also arranged a one-on-one resume consultation with Vicky Oliver in New York. With her keen insights, his more polished resume caught the eye of a high government official and now he's working in a director's position."

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners who are nervous
A good source for beginners and those who are just out of college or high school.
    Covers most topics well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what the title says
This book does give you a good idea on many normal questions. The problem is that more than half the questions that are used in this book are either illegal or questionable. Ones such as how would you handle a tough workplace situation are not answered.

There is also a strong female bent, with questions about working with or planning a family, again questions which border on being against labor law.

I did learn some things from this book, but I would say 20% of the book was relevant to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good content but poor Kindle formatting
The content of this book was helpful and informative. Both, the questions and the sample answers plus the additional comments were very helpful. Good common sense practical information presented in an easy to read format. Worthwhile for anyone preparing to interview.

However, on a Kindle the formatting is a complete mess. Multiple sections were misplaced and out of order. I don't know what the problem is but the Kindle formatting needs some serious clean up.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good basic book with helpful advise
I have pulled this book off my shelf many times over the last 9 years to aid friends and family during their stalled job searches. It offers basic helpful advise on how to stand out from other candidates during the interview process.A candidate cannot possibly know whether a company uses Targeted Selection but that is beside the point.Giving behavioral answers to non- behavioral questions asked by interviewers really helps a candidate stand out!Sure it's a tad simplistic , but that is what makes this workbook's advise so easy to understand and follow. The pre-interview prep is priceless.

Not only did this book help me change shift my career to a new industry. it has successfully aided several of my friends and at least one family member.

1-0 out of 5 stars Blah, Blah, Blah
Is this the BEST that an 'Accomplished' journalist can do?

An accomplished journalist/author like Ms. Pickett should be able to do better than this bore of a 'Self-Help' book for the unemployed and unemployable. 'Landing the Job You Want' is nothing more than 200+ pages of 'Blah, Blah, Blah' (read: BORING) tips for those who are too lazy to get off their collective tushes and make something of themselves.

One would expect that a writer with Ms. Pickett's credentials should have the talent to at least speak intelligently to her audience, but then again, the author's M.O. is one of putting herself up on a pedastal, above all others, while boring her readers with lines and lines and pages upon pages of useless information that most could care less to read.

Other reviewers have concurred. Perhaps Ms. Pickett should spend more time concentrating on making her readers happy and less time feeding her own ego. A wise man once said 'Before you speak, my child, think about this: Does what you have to say really interest anyone other than yourself? If so, then speak your mind. If not, remain silent and more people will respect you.'
    Ms. Picket should take heed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
If you are looking for a job, or promotion and the corporation will be using the Targeted Selection method this is the book you must read! Forget those silly answers like "I am a people person" This book will help you explain why you should land the job!

Krannich and Krannich cut to the chase in this book. From job hoppers to terminated employment to ex-offenders this book is valuable to a broader group than the title might infer.

Even with mild problem areas, everyone can learn to shake the trembles of the past and improve your chances to "get the job!"

Everyone should remember this book is very important to a wide group of our society, but also realize many that fit into this category have literacy problems. The trick is to turn this information into useful information for those that need it most.Great read!

A key guide for job seekers addresses common problems of the successful job search. Caryl and Ron Krannich's Job Interview Tips For People With Not-so-hot Backgrounds: How To Put Red Flags Behind You tells the common red flags which appear on resumes and background searches and explores how candidates for jobs can offset these red flags with positive results. Whether it's no experience, poor grades, or poor references and a prior firing, this details clear resolutions to common barriers.

This is book is great. As the author of, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a meaningful and rewarding career."I feel I am an expert on the subject. Many books tell you how to get a job interview, and few give you scripted answers assuming you have been nothing, but successful.

For most people, this just is not the case. There are a number of reasons of why people do not have great backgrounds.I for one do not believe this is a reflection of potential, creativity, and attitude all of which are far more important than experience. If you need to prep for the interview read this book, if you need to get an interview read, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a meaningful and rewarding career" first. When investing in both of these resources you cannot go wrong. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good start in preparation for interview questions
I found this book to be very good at basic questions that you may find in an interview.Honestly, I have been asked a few right out of this book. This is a very straight forward, no-nonsense guide to basic interview questions.I did not rate this book higher because there are other preparation guides out there that do a better job when it comes to specific job functions.

Jeffery Allen takes a very straight forward approach when it comes to viewing what a job interview can be.Often these are dull interviews where it is difficult to shine in, and he brings that point home very clearly. He does a good job of coaching you to have good body language, a solid voice delivery, and to think before you answer. It is not likely that an interviewer is going to ask you odd questions like what kind of sea creature would you be, so do not worry about what is unlikely to happen.

He suggests that the is preparation to the standard questions that are asked.Give the facts only, don't elaborate too much.Do not tell your life story, give answers that pertain to the job.If they want to know about you, they want to know what makes you fit towards their job, not that you run marathons.Deflect personal questions and turn those answers into general answers.Turn these answers into job specific answers. One question is do you have a car and can you make it to work on time?An answer may be something like, I have reliable transportation, and arriving to work on-time has never been an issue for me.

I think a good job is done at getting you to answer the basic questions. The key here is preparation. It is not the time to think of your answer at the job interview, at this point you should be ready to say your answer immediately when asked the question. Many questions are asked in this book that will make you think and be ready for your next job interview.Going over these questions and deciding what your answers will be ahead of time will aide you greatly in your next job interview.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Complete
I've just started my job search, but already I have read a few job interview books. This one does not compare favorably with the others, such as Knock Em Dead and 101 Great Answers to the Toughest Interview Questions.Like 101 Great Answers it has questions and sample responses. However, unlike 101 Great Answers, the responses seem canned.Other books emphasize that you need to answer the questions for yourself and not just cut and paste the responses into your repetoire of answers, but this one leads you to believe that if you follow their responses exactly, you will more likely have a better interview. What also is missing is a clear overview of the process you need to go through to prepare yourself. This is where Knock Em Dead is much better. It puts the interview in the context of the whole job search process.

Recommendation: Choose a better interview book. The suggestions in this book won't make you stand out from the rest or be true to yourself.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless for Professionals
I found this book absolutely worthless for anyone pursuing a professional career. 50% or more of the questions it helps you answer are questions that I have never heard asked in an interview and it would be the waste of an interviewers time to ask them. I have interviewed people for my past employers before and I would never dream of asking most of these questions, so why would you waste your time preparing for them? What's worse, the questions that I hear most frequently when being interviewed don't seem to be mentioned in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have
Everyone that I've lent this book to has found it very helpful. This book is highly recommended and I believe it's the best out there in the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very helpful guide to preparing for interviews
This is an excellent book. The author has done a great job in pulling together the elements which spell success in the quest for employment.I recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for an experienced professional...
I got absolutely nothing out of this book, and I doubt anyone else will either unless they have very little experience interviewing. It might be a good book for high school graduates, or socially backward college graduates, but anyone who's had more than three job interviews will find it lacks insight and is terribly boring.

I had to force myself to read the whole thing, which is pretty sad since it's a very short book. The only thing that kept me going was the thought that I can't review it in good faith if I haven't read the whole thing!

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok...
This is a very good book with many ideas on interviews and related etiquette, but unfortunately it just goes over the same things again and again. It could've been cut in half easily, without any important information lost. But this is a minor complaint - I can't wait to try out principles described in the book in a real-life interview.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful
This book was not very helpful. The title gives the impression that it really focuses in on interviewing but it attempts cover every other aspect of job hunting. The author is more interested in trying to write with humor than really give good examples and info.I'm reading "48 Days to the Work You Love" right now and it is far better and I've yet to finish it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Granular level practice for each step of the career transition process
I found this book to be an easy read, and since I was using it during a career transition, extremely relevant. It can be a great reference, if you are good at some portions of the search and not others, or it can be a holistic approach for those trying to just make any progress.

I liked the toolkits, bullet point processes on how to prepare, and how to get through preparation and closing.

I wouldn't recommend this book to someone that is introverted and is fairly passive. This is for a type A, go getter, someone who wants to be THE BEST at everything they do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds promising
Bought this book due to current economic situation. A lot of people lost their jobs, so it is important to have good, explainable answers on tricky job interviews.
I am curious to the outcome of the interviews I recently had.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too much fluff around the edge; too little content at the core
I read this book, was disappointed, put it on my shelf, and then re-read it a year later -- and was disappointed again. There are probably 20 great pages in the whole book that provide a list of great behavioral questions, but there is *way* too much filler on the front- and back-ends and way too little direct addressing of what is a behavioral interview and how to conduct one effectively.

That said, I've had a rough time finding one anywhere nor have I had much luck Googling for free articles on the Internet.

Nevertheless, I'd try something else before this unless you are really doing some of the first interview processes of your career.

1-0 out of 5 stars Title is misleading
I suppose its called a "50-minute book" because that's how long it took to write.I think the title is misleading as I didn't find a whole lot of specific information regarding the subject of behavior based interviews. This is mostly a general guide for job seeking, but doesn't contain much specific information on that either.Just don't buy this book, you can get better information doing a web search.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a great way to improve your interviewing process
I have been conducting interviews for a small telemarketing department (under 65 reps) for quite some time and have tried 3-4 different techniques to reduce my attrition. Another sales manager told me about behavioral interviewing and that is when I went on the search for books that would walk me through the process. This book goes through a step-by-step process to get you started. This is not a complete program, though, but will get you started nicely. I have since attended a web-based training on this subject, but am glad that I had this basic training guide first. I have lowered my attrition by 5-7% and have since applied this system to a performance review I did on all my staff to pinpoint my bottom 30%. I was not surprised at all who would not have been hired if they had been subjected to the behavioral interview method, but this has given me an even plain for performance standards.
Note: This is obviously for those managers that have had no formal interview training but are expected to hire their own staff. HR specialists would find this too elementary. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars job interview book
I have always loved this book and have bought it and lent it out to friends many times over. I feel very confident that it has been a key factor in many of the jobs I was able to land. Great advice and way of looking at a question and turning it on a positive tip. Some answers seem a little heavy-handed or brown-nosey, but I think overall, as long as it can be said naturally fro you, it's a plethora of good ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book!
This is a must have book for anyone who is job hunting and going on interviews. This book saved me during my interview today with difficult questions like "What are your negative traits", "What negative disagreements have you had with peers/supervisors" and "How did you overcome the disagreements".I checked this book out from my local library, but as soon as it comes to Kindle, I will be purchasing it.

The format lists an interview question, and follows it up with at least 6 answers choices that you can use to get an ideal of how you can answer the question. This is a great guideline for preparing for your interview. Also, this book is for everyone, high school grad, college grad. (BA, MA, MBA, PHD), not only for those seeking an entry level position.

5-0 out of 5 stars JUST WHAT I NEEDED!
I suggest for anyone seeking employment and are graced with an interview, please get this book.It certainly made me aware of questions that would most likely be asked in an interview.Of the ten questions I review prior to my interviews, ten were asked which proved the point that the book is dead on.

This book gives you insight to questions you wouldn't have thought of.A great way to beat being left high and dry in an interview chair wishing you had thought of an answer before hand.
