They will swim there and eat all they can before swimming back to their own territory. Komodo dragons were not discovered by westerners until 1912, and ever since their habitat has been threatened by the human population on the island. Despite this the komodo population has stayed stable, although they are listed as a vulnerable species on the World Conservation Union's 'Red List of Threatened Animals'.

They are brown in color and often have dark markings across their bodies. They range from 7.5-8.5 feet in length. Males are larger than females and weigh up to 300 lbs, where females can weigh up to 200 lbs. Their long, whip-like tails, which are often longer than their bodies, are used are rudders when swimming. Komodos are capable of running at very fast speeds for short distances and are good swimmers, but are sluggish in cooler waters which lower their body temperatures. Like a shark, they lose and replace their teeth every once in awhile. Prey is killed by the bacteria infested saliva found in the komodo's mouth. Komodo dragons are solitary and come together only when feeding and mating. The mating season lasts from July to August. A female will lay a clutch of eggs (usually about 20) in a burrow with many different entrances to confuse predators. The eggs which are soft and leathery will hatch within 8-9 months. The young komodo dragons will spend much of the beginning of their lives in trees where they will feed on insects until they reach a stable size. They live up to 20 years in the wild, though many scientists predict that they can live to be 50.

The dragon follows it around until it dies. Then it eats its meal. This saves the dragon from having to spend extra energy running to catch its prey.

First a piranha-like fish was caught in Lake Griffy. Then a 12-foot python was found slithering around Yellowwood State Forest. Now a 5-foot monitor lizard has been spotted lounging around Lake Lemon. So far, all the sightings have been at the Brown County end of the lake, with one of the county's animal control officers sighting and pursuing it a few days ago but being unable to corral it. A couple who live by the lake first spotted the beast, sunning itself along the Indiana Rail Road tracks. Monitors love to lounge in the sun. Sylvia and David Lewis tried unsuccessfully to net it, then called the Brown County Sheriff's Department, which sent animal control officer John Houts to try to catch it. He saw the giant lizard and likewise tried to catch it for several hours, in fact. But he also failed.

Okay, enough about shagging and virgins, the fact is that this movie was a very pleasant suprise. I went to the theatre expecting an average slasher flick and what I got was an above average slasher flick. Michael Biehn, Brittany Murphy, Jay Mohr, Amanda Anka Candy Clark are the stars and the script is pretty lame and slow to start with but after viewing the last half it was well worth the wait. This movie is nothing new to horror fans, with its usual pretty girls running, screaming and bleeding, but man....it's still FUN !!!

Its large yellow forked tongue can break down and analyse smell in the air, and they can sense a deer up to 3 miles away. Its feet sound like a "muffled machine gun" according to some experts, which alert their prey seconds before making the final kill. After gnawing down a deer or two, the smelly dragon keeps bits of meat in its teeth which are highly septic not to mention disgusting! Some species of this group, however, are much more than a nuisance. Their bite can result in mutilation and even death. Leishmaniasis - also known as "kala-azar", "black fever" or "black sickness" - is a group of parasitic diseases transmitted by approximately 30 of the existing 500 species of phlebotomine (blood sucking) sand flies. The parasite, a group of protazoa, Leishmania spp, is the causative agent of the disease. Like mosquitoes, only the adult females suck blood, and therefore only the females transmit the disease. Cutaneous forms of the disease (those affecting the skin) normally produce skin ulcers on the exposed parts of the body such as the face, arms and legs. The disease can produce a large number of lesions - sometimes up to 200 - causing serious disability and permanent scarring. Autoinoculation (the process of a victim re-infecting him/herself) of various parts of the body with the fingers can occur from the cutaneous lesions. In mucocutaneous forms of leishmaniasis, (those affecting the mucous and skin) lesions can lead to partial or total destruction of the mucus membranes of the nose, mouth and throat cavities.

Also known as a Rusa deer, the animal knows this route well; many deer use it frequently as they move about in search of food.
