Product Description
All educators want their students to be able to achieve more and do well on standardized tests. Some believe that the way to make that happen is mindless test drill. The positive effect of writing is counterintuitive to what many educators believe to be true. Writing is a cognitive process that allows teachers to not only assess students, but to plan appropriate instructional strategies that will most benefit that student. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good ideas for lots of children or just a few
We wanted to incorporate "circle time" in my children's routine. These books have been a great addition. The poems are impressive and suggested activities are doable and fun. They are also able to be done with just 3 children (like we have) or a classroom full of children. This book is very useful for the home, but I could see it being used in a daycare center, preschool, or any early childhood program. It is also set up in a way that you can personally build upon the book with ideas included. We can stretch a poem out for a week of activities and the children not get bored. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super fun ideas!
I love this book! I can't wait until it is warmer, so we can do the outdoor activities!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not for all parts of the country
I bought this book in hopes that it would have general activities I could use with my children.I would have really liked this book if I lived in a different area of the country.I live in the Sandhills of Nebraska where most of the trees we have are planted windbreaks consisting of mostly Cedars and Cotttonwoods. This book is written with many activities for people who have access to a forest.I can use most of the activities, but will need to drastically adapt nearly half of the book. This being said, these activities do give me a springboard for forming my own activities in relation to nature. It should be noted that the author lives in the country in New England with her own herd of sheep to observe.I think this is a good book, but may be difficult to use for those of use who don't live near forests or who live in the middle of a large city.If I would have been able to look at this book in a bookstore before buying it, I would have left it on the shelf for someone else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Young children will love the ideas included in this book.
This was a fun read.Anyone who has young children in their care will benefit from reading this book. The author is both a parent and a teacher and her enthusiasm for teaching about nature comes through in each activity. These activities show a real understanding of children's interests, energy level, and limits. You will walk away with dozens of great ideas that can be used as formal lesson plans orinformal teaching/learning opportunities. You willalso find fun songs to sing and illustrations which can be used to help with the lessons. You won't be able to resist having fun with these ideas! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great book for classroom or homeschool
This book is great for both giving you activities that are themed based, and crafts to do.It also sites books that can be used with both. There are a variety of activities that can be done in a day or others that are meant to be used over a week or the whole month.Ideas are broken up into months, and also cover Holidays that are in that month. If you can buy only one of these books (in the series) I would choose this one.The arts and crafts book is good too for more craft ideas, but not necessary to have as a companion.I am a homeschooling mom and love this book. It gives my kids a real-life classroom experience at home, not just the basics of education.I can also see how it would be good for a school teacher as I have helped in the classroom alot there too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!
This is a great book to look up activities by the month that are easy to put together.A great addition to any collection for preschool teachers.

5-0 out of 5 stars A near-inexhaustible treasure trove of clever ideas
The Giant Encyclopedia Of Monthly Activities: For Children 3 To 6, written by the team of teachers Kathy Charner, Maureen Murphy, and Charlie Clark for use by fellow teachers, is a vast compendium of inexpensive and educational classroom ideas. Organized by the recommended school month for each group of activities, suggestions range from "Everyone Needs a Nametag" (September) to "Pumpkin Math" (October), "Snow Painting" (January), "Paper Daffodils" (March) and much more. With over 600 options, ranging from projects that take a few minutes to long-running activities over the course of a month, The Giant Encyclopedia Of Monthly Activities is a near-inexhaustible treasure trove of clever ideas. Highly recommended for educators, day care centers, babysitters, and anyone else who works with young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for homeschooling your preschooler!
I bought this book for homeschooling purposes. Unfortunately I live in an area where preschool isn't available to everyone, and I didn't want my son to go into kindergarten unready! I tried on my own, with only workbooks to work with, but it didn't "feel" right, something was missing. STRUCTURE. I was flying blind and all we were doing was working in fun little workbooks. This book is GREAT! I breaks it down every day, so you can use it straight as a lesson plan! We use the workbooks to suppliment, since this book doesn't teach writing letters or numbers. This book is mainly filled with learning activities, hands-on activities and games about a different subject every day! I LOVE it! =)

4-0 out of 5 stars Childrens craft book
Bought this for my daughter at her request for my grand daughters. She is happy with the book.
