5-0 out of 5 stars Bullying is getting worse...this book can really help.
Having two school age children who have at one time or another faced bullying, and having been bullied myself as a child, I can completely relate to this book's topic. School age bullying is a problem for both children and their parents, especially these days with internet bullying as prevalent as it is.This book is an excellent resource for parents to learn how to deal with the various bullying situations that arise. It's well written and understandable, but even better, the ideas presented are actionable. You can learn and take effective, proactive steps to resolve the pain your child is feeling if you apply the methods taught in this book. And for those parents of bullies, there's help for you, too.So many parents don't realize they and their actions may be the reason for their children's anti-social behavior.
I give this book a 5 star rating as the go to book if you're faced with a situation where your child is bullied and they need your help to get through it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaches elementary grades lessons and activities for reinforcing empathy and friendship

A key pick for education libraries.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I bought this book about five years ago when I started working with students in Kindergarten who were struggling with learning their letters and letter sounds.I only used one of the activities in the book (never had time to check out all the rest, but the one activity is worth the price of the book). They have a flashcard for each letter of the alphabet. One each card is the letter, a picture and a kinestetic clue. You basically makes these cards into a flip book on a keyring and go through everyday or several times a day.For example, when they see the A card with an apple on it and a sneezing person, they say A and touch the A, then they say Apple, and then they say the sound and make the motion for aahhchoo, as if they are sneezing, but they only say aahh.

So, I had students do each card quickly, three times each, so it sounded like this

A, Apple, Aahh

A, Apple, Aahh

A, Apple, Aahh

B, Balloon, B sound
B, Balloon, B sound

Anyways, kids loved it and they learned all the sounds really well.I now work with 6th grade struggling readers and use the vowel cards since these are the sounds they struggle with.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book for my kindergarten classroom. I have used it so much and love the activities.I feel like i cover letter ID and sounds well w/ this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Revise the picture card.....
It has lots of good ideas for teaching the alphabets creatively. My only issue with it is the pictures chart. It's black and white, hand drawn and somewhat "noisy" - E.g. with the picture of the letter "Q q" - the little figure on top of the little q, I presume, must be a "queen" but to me looks like a bug; it took a minute to decipher the picture. haha..try telling your kid it's a queen. Just a little too much details for a learning disabled child. Perhaps just photos of a person making the letter sounds might communicate better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for teaching letter sounds.
I have used this book for the past 2 years with my preschool classes. The kids are learning the letters and sounds so easily and quickly. This book provides you with the necessary tools to teach to several different learning styles(visual, auditory and kinesthetic) at once.I also love how the kinesthetic cueing system focuses on the shape and movement of the mouth while forming the sound.
I would reccomend this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to your curriculum!
This is a really wonderful book. It helps you plan a virtual field trip with your kids to the seven continents. In the beginning, they make their own "passport" and even a suitcase (from cereal box) to start their trip. The first stop is North America, where they will learn and craft about Native people from Canada and USA (making a Totem Pole), Mexico (making Papel picado), USA (making a statue of Liberty, a replica of Spirit of St. Louis plane), and other projects. Then, the next step is The Pacific Islands and Australia where kids will learn and craft about animals and art in the region. In Asia, kids will make a Japanese doll, a Chinese paper fan and an Indian elephant just to mention some things. In Africa, projects include a desert sand dune, a striped zebra and the Great Pyramid among others. In Europe, they will learn and craft about Eiffel Tower, Russian matryoshkas, castles, windmills, etc. In Central and South America, kids will learn and craft about music instruments, animals and folk crafts. In Antarctica, kids will learn about icebergs, penguins, whales.

This book is not only fun for kids, but it offers many opportunities to learn. For every project, it includes a map and location of the topic studied, and it contains other useful information to share, such as scientific facts about what the kids are crafting (like in the case of animals), some easy science experiments related, suggestions of books to read around that topic, and curious facts that will amaze everyone.

This book works great for Social Studies in the lower elementary grades, but it can also be used to teach science or to take ideas for reading response projects. ... Read more

As a first grade teacher I can't imagine not using Dr. Mac's music in my classroom. The tunes and the lyrics arenot only enjoyable, but very useful forteaching important values. If given a choice for music selection, the children always request Dr. Mac.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for carpool!
We listen to these wonderful catchy tunes mostly while traveling in the car.Kids in our carpool always jump in the car and ask for "Dr. Mac music" right away. There are so many great songs that they each have a different favorite. Besides being so positive and entertaining, the songs have lessons and they're catchy, fun, and the kids love singing along.A great little tool for parents!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Mac Rocks!
I have all three Dr. Mac CDs and this one really rocks! My kids (6, 5 and 2) love the music, and often my wife and I find ourselves singing (and dancing) along as well.We love the messages and often talk with our kids about them as situations arise in our lives. They are a great educational tool for emotional intelligence.Sometimes we sing a portion of them to our kids in "teaching moments."Anyone looking to raise well-rounded, intelligent children should have this CD in their collection. It gives kids (and adults) fun communication tools they need to be successful in school and life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great For Beginning Studaent
I bought this for my daughter who will be entering the first grade this fall. When it arrived, I skimmed through it and was surprised to see that she's already adept at a lot of the tasks in the book. We are from California though where Kindergarten goes 6 hours and they are working on double digit subtraction though. We just relocated to Oregon where they have 2 hour days and are just starting basic addition. It will depend on your childs skill level.

I recommend this book for kids 4-6 who may not yet have been exposed to much schooling.

4-0 out of 5 stars summer activites
good starting point for work over the summer, I don't like all the coloring- takes too much time and teaches nothing. I would recommend more than just this daily to really make a difference in your child's learning.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little young
I bought this item for my daughter who is going into first grade.I found it a bit young for her as she is already a reader and ready for some challenging activities.I will be ordering the next step.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review for new school year
This is a good tool to keep your child refreshed and ready for the next school year.My son likes the fact that he could quickly get through the 2 pages a day.He enjoys being able to color the stars when he completes a page.

4-0 out of 5 stars This will keep your child occupied...
....but its only stuff they already learned in Kindergarten. So do not expect your child to learn a whole bunch of new stuff.

I still liked this Book for it gave my child the opportunity to show me what skills she had and what we still needed to work on < counting in 5's for example>. I liked how every week had a different color and that the weekdays are showed on the bottom of the page. I also liked the "diary "for every week. It is basically a page where you can check off the pages your child has completed how much he or she was reading everyday and writing down events that happened on every day.

The paper quality of this Activity book is very good; often activity books have thin pages that easily rip when the child tries to erase a mistake.

In all a good book to keep your childs brain on a constant level so he or she won't forget what they have learned thus far!!! ... Read more
