Product Description
A useful introduction to the popular Australian icon, Koala: The Story of Australia's Native Bear offers a brief history on its first discovery and published reference by European settlers, the fur trade and resulting outcry to prevent its extinction, and the koala's place of importance in Aboriginal folklore. Scientific facts about the koala's characteristics, traits, and temperament are discussed. Barrett's affection for the animal comes through in his numerous references to its delightful qualities-whether in describing the little orphan koala Edward at the breakfast table, or in interspersing text with comparisons to the beloved teddy bear-thus cementing the koala as one of the most revered creatures known to man. This timeless reference book has become a classic for all ages, and a valuable addition to the bookshelf of any nature enthusiast or collector of arcane Australiana. This title is a republication of the second edition, originally published in 1937. ... Read more

Product Description
A group of prominent scientists has set itself up as THE authority for all matters scientific. They call themselves the Secret Society Scientifica. Anyone who tries to publish theories or discoveries contrary to their agenda is quickly suppressed.

One individual, Brent, unknowingly challenges their authority when he discovers the Unified Field Theory—the theory of everything—a theory scientists have been searching for since Einstein. This theory would advance science by a century and uncover new forms of energy. But it would also destroy the careers, reputations, and book sales of the Society. When Brent tries to publish his discovery, the Society Scientifica plots to stop him using fear, intimidation, and genetically-engineered goons.

A mysterious stranger who can’t speak, known only as the Wandering Koala, is led by a magic compass to help Brent—and ultimately—the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great comic
From the first page to the last, this comic is thoroughly entertaining.

The comic starts with a mysterious stranger coming into town. Then we tune into a popular daytime show to find outabout new research that will rewrite the books on physics. Those currently in the field don't like that; their very livelihoods are threatened, so they plan to shut it down.

The art is beautiful and looks great on a Kindle. The storytelling is strong. The dialogue is easy to read. And the characters are so wild and fun. I highly recommend this! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Storytelling at its finest
Very few writers and artists are able to develop character so clearly while advancing the plot as well as the author has done in this issue. We open up at a theater. It appears to be just another night with an average couple at a movie. But from the actions and dialogue, we discover that this marriage is on the rocks yet both people are unaware. In fact, we learn from the wife's narration that she actually thinks the marriage is going well. And all of this is discovered while they run out of the theater and hop on a bus. But even this ordinary looking bus ends up being something out of the ordinary.

This comic is easy to read on the Kindle with big text and coloring that doesn't obscure the artwork. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys masterful sequential art.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great comic for the Kindle
After reading another comic by this author, I couldn't wait to read something else by him. And I think he's actually gotten better.

The artwork is in a black/white/red style that reminds me of art from the early 20th century. It looked great on the Kindle's grey screen, but even better on the color screen of my Kindle for PC app. The words were large enough that I had no problem following the story.

I was surprised at where the story went. It begins on an ordinary night with an ordinary couple on an ordinary date. The wife is narrating the story, and the author has done an excellent job juxtaposing her thoughts with actions that are completely opposite. She claims her husband loves her, but it's clear from his actions that he doesn't. I'm curious how this will end. I can't wait for the next issue to come out!

If you have been hesitant to try out a comic for Kindle, this is a perfect issue to start with. ... Read more

Product Description
In the ten years since the previous Koala book was published in the Australian Natural History Series by Lee and Martin, a great deal of basic research has been done on the koala. The conservation status of wild populations has been a topic of much debate and this new edition includes maps of the current distribution of the species and a commentary on the status of wild populations. Other recent studies have enhanced our knowledge in the areas of reproductive biology, endocrinology, energetics, and growth. Facts from all these studies have been woven into the narrative of this new natural history of the species. Headway has also been made in our understanding of koala disease, particularly Chlamydia, and this new information has caused a revision in our thinking as to its role and impact on koala populations. The book includes a chapter on koala population biology which is necessary for an understanding of the many complex issues for the management of the species. It concludes with a discussion of the most difficult management issues: conservation of sparsely distributed populations and the problem of overabundance. ... Read more

Product Description
You've heard music can affect your mood, but what if could do more? What if a song not only got stuck in your head but in the rest of your body as well? What if music became addictive?

Someone in the town of Lyman has discovered a melody more addictive than any drug and is selling it on the streets. Teenagers are hooked with one listen--they stop paying attention in school, playing with their friends, and even eating. And to buy more they resort to selling all they have, then selling all they can find or steal. And in the distance, an ominous howl can be heard--a harbinger of death.

Only the intervention of the Wandering Koala--a mysterious traveler mute since childhood--has any chance of freeing the town from this invisible trap.

The Hook (a Wandering Koala tale) is a fully illustrated short story by Jeff Thomason and the latest exciting chapter in the Wandering Koala saga! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Modern Mythology
After being so impressed with The Scientific Method, I was eager to read The Hook, even though it was such a strange title.

The author has crafted another amazing tale that I couldn't put down. Being a retired school teacher, I recognized the archetypes. First there is the tragic protagonist (Jarom) who stumbles into trouble because of his own human weaknesses. There there is the music representing addiction and the weakness of the flesh. We also see the tragic consequences of not controlling our passions represented by the TodWolf, the horrible beast that devours the lost souls. And of course we have a mighty hero that appears to save the day. But like his first book, the author has an unexpected twist at the end that I did not see coming. So few writers are brave enough to try what he did.

I was also delighted by the beautiful interior illustrations. They helped to flesh out the characters and the settings.

I highly recommend every student of literature read this short story, and I can't wait to see what issues the Wandering Koala tackles next!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Take on Addiction I've Never Seen Before
I really enjoyed the author's first book, "The Scientific Method (a Wandering Koala tale)", so I was really excited to see he released a new short story, and I wasn't disappointed.

The premise of the story is someone has discovered a melody that is as addictive as an illegal drug, and they are selling it on the street. Because it is music, there is nothing illegal about it, so there is nothing anyone can do. The story follows Jarom, a former video game junkie who has lost all interest in video games and everything else. He runs out of music and has to find money to buy more. He tries stealing from a traveler in a motel who ends up being Kyle, the Wandering Koala, who has to save him from a danger lurking in the shadows.

This book is like modern mythology with the music symbolizing the addiction, and the TodWolfen (giant savage beasts) representing the dangerous consequences that will eventually catch up to you. Like his last novel, the writing is amazing and fun to read. And he's included over a dozen of new illustrations that really add to the overall story. I recommend this book to anyone who likes mythology or a great adventure. ... Read more

Marisa Church has written a wonderful book with a great message for all of us. We are each different yet very special in our own way. This book is about the interconnectedness with our friends. The children and I enjoyed the pictures in this book also.

5-0 out of 5 stars inspirational
This person is a very inspirational person to me. Not oly has she over come many challenges to do great things, but now she is doing the most challenging job of all. being a parent. I am sure her two young girls gave her the inspiration to write this book. This is an excellent book for reading to young children and a few older readers. I like the fact that the animals are not cartoon looking. I also like that the pictures are in color. my hope for her is that she will write many more stories of life lessons and stay true to God and family.
