Extractions: This is an annotated directory of reading and language arts sites found on the World Wide Web. It was originally conceived for the 1997 Montana State Reading Council conference, and was extensively revised and enlarged for subsequent conferences in 1998 and 1999. As of February, 2002, I am engaged in checking all sites, adding others, and revising where necessary. Please check back for new material. The complete list has grown to be a lengthy file (over 80k), and can be slow to load even with a newer modem (28.8 or above). Therefore, I have broken the directory into sections, indicated by the navigation links on the right hand side of each page. For those blessed with a high-speed connection (or more patience than I), there is still a complete, one-page version. The explosive growth of the World Wide Web has been both blessing and curse. Information once found only in large research libraries is now available in every school, no matter how small or isolated. There is an abundance of research, teaching ideas, shared experience, and lesson planning assistanceif one can find it. Searchers become frustrated when they are bounced from one list of links to another. Equally annoying are sites designed only to sell something. The resources assembled here have been accumulated over several years. With each major revision, I'm pleased to note how many sites have remained stablethe fact that good sites are less prone to move or disappear is a sign the Web is maturing.
